I absolutely loved the growing trust between the 2 men, and how through it, Nick rediscovered his honor. The closing scene, where Nick turns over the plates to Masa was the perfect ending. He not only atones for his past disgrace, but does so in a way that thanks and honors the friend who helped him find his way back.
Powerful beyond belief
Well said
This is a very underrated movie. Would like to visit Japan someday
@@craigwilson3532My reply is a year late, but trust me when I say this: you will enjoy it.
It’s not going to be easy first; language barrier, transportation is a bit complicating, etc. But if you learn to get past it and become adaptable, you’ll have a great time.
May his soul rest in peace, Mr. Ken Takakura...
Very true R.i.P Mr Ken Takakura wonderful actor and legend
"You watch your tail, cowboy"
That scene alone is one of the greatest examples of how characters can grow within a couple of minutes.
What are you talking about? Final scene in the airport clearly points out that Nick hasn´t change a little bit.
@@miguellemagomez9998Not necessarily. He could’ve taken the plates if he wanted to.
Furthermore, while he turned he turned them over in a way that the Japanese authorities would see as unorthodox, he still returned them in his own, individual charming way.
I was a boy when I first saw this movie. Masa's words made a strong impression on me. Later in life I've got to understand also the perspective of the character played by Michael Douglas. It's a great movie scene and as times goes I get to appreciate it even more.
I love this comment !
so do i. i was 8 years old when i saw this movie. this scene is simply perfect. a moral lesson that i never forgot since then. the "thanks" of nick is full of meaning to me. friendship...
That “thanks” at the end holding two meanings is great screenwriting. “Thanks for refilling my beer” and “Thanks for sharing your perspective”. So good.
Love this scene. When the old Japanese Lady comes up and helps Nick use his chopsticks, it made me smile. And when Masa is telling Nick about Charlie, and he feels about Nick taking drug money. Such a good scene.
RIP Ken. He was the soul of the movie....
Indeed. To tell the truth, he was my favorite actor from Japan.
This is one of my favorite Michael Douglas films. Ken Takakura and Andy Garcia were both superb here as well. Ridley Scott's direction was spot on. This film will be 30 yrs. old this year in 2019.
It's one of my favorite movies. All the actors were superb in it.
Hans Zimmer soundtrack.
Good talent worked on this film
Everyones raves about action in this movie, but screenwriting is superb. Perfect story arc for Conklin.
This movie is flawless.
RIP KEN TAKAKURA.
I never knew he had passed.
RIP indeed, Kenny.
Love Black Rain. The style, actors and music really make it. This, along with The Duellists, are Ridley Scott's most underrated work. Great movie.
Sebastian Fitzptraick The Duellists is amazing.
R.I.P ,Ken-san,,,
One of my favorite films about honor and friendships....
Straight Up Bushido
and lose . . .
Great movie. Michael douglas at his best . I could watch it over and over again . Ridley scott , the blade runner man. Great producer .😎 He's hip .
funny, when I first watched this movie, the only line that I remembered after long time, was when Michael Douglas, looked down and said : " Yeah , I took money", I found that scene to be memorable, and Michael Douglas delivered perfectly
One of my favorite scenes the establishment of honesty
This scene chokes me up every time I watch it. 😢
this scene worths as a terapy session. even charlie knew. great caracters in a true conversation.
Ken Takakura and Yusaku Matsuda are great actors
Amazing. And acting was not in their native language. Just incredible actors
My favourite movie and favourite actors! Forever remembered Ken!
Asked my dad with no prompt if he remembered Black Rain. He immediately recited this scene as the stand out part.
This is one of my top ten favorite movies. I've watched it many times.
SOME PEOPLE are incorruptible....
Honour is very important to some people ...
The way he slurps those noodles down.
a lot of this movie looks like "Blade Runner" ( I know same director)
One of my favorite movies.
One of the most powerful movie scenes EVER!
It is?
They don’t make movie like this anymore
"You disgrace him... And yourself... And me"
But... Realistically... If the American Govt took a more constructive approach to drugs... Maybe cops would not get disillusioned and start to take...
To any American reading this, comment is directed toward Govt policy, not against America as a nation and not against any of you individually...
Believe it or not, some Americans do realize how corrupt our country is. It’s sickening.
favorite scene from one of my favorite movies. thanks.
A true friend corrects his brother.
Powerful scene!
This and The Last Samurai are my top favorites. I love this scene not because of the character growth between Nick and Masa. But it reflects the importance of duty and honor. According to Bushido, honor is the only true judge of your character. Your actions define who you are. Thus you can't hide from yourself. Because of this a person has no need to act cruel or cowardly. But I digress. LOL
An excellent description.
Shades of Blade Runner
I remember it being advertised and caught it playing here and there but it did not became my favorite until 2000!!!
Guess it came out in 1989 which is my favorite year.
高倉健の追悼コメが泣ける😢
Greatness to this date...

高倉健のドキュメンタリー映画でこのシーンが使われマイケルダグラスのインタビューがありました🤔✨
異なる国の男の友情が芽生えたシーンですね…。
It's so Very Powerful.. Down to the timing of the music in the scene
@@KingKong-li2lgmee too🚬🤔
這種電影誰看的懂無頭無尾要演給誰看,好好的心情都被搞壞了
Lastly Michael says "Thanx," which seems to imply deep emotions.
I agree
Well, he was a magnificent cop. And he did some very bad.
So bad he thought can erase all the good he did.
Massa says he continue been a policeman.
You can't disgrace if you aren't one of the crew.
Now I might friends but I have to learn to release and say the right things.
Braaak rain. You made the rain braak!
Udon
松本、よく言ってくれた!😭
Hai! Your Bushido is Strong!
