It's amazing! I got a 2018 in this gray, with 4,000 miles on it for $15,900.
Dare I say that this is the proper "old school" hot hatch?
And I do not mind an up-charge for the manual, s long as it is still offered as an option.
And the style is definitely better than Fiesta.
In some of those Kia's you can Jack the lever on the left lower side and you can adjust your height Matt. Great Video.
It would be interesting to see you review a Kia Soul. It's an interesting vehicle in general, in my opinion. Great video by they way.

Anyone curious of the fuel economy. I live near Phoenix. I drive 55 miles per day. I have the 7spd DSG.
Speed limit is 75 for over half the drive. Stop and go for the last 20 miles.
For the first 30 miles if I keep it at 75, I can get over 30 mpg. My best was 37, although I had a really big tail wind the whole way home. Benefit of living where it's flat.
But on average I get around 32 for that section as long as I don't hit traffic.
So the best fuel economy overall I got was 33 mpg combined.
Worst I got was 26.5 mpg combined. That's really flogging it and blipping the throttle so I can hear the *wooosh* from the intake.
I absolutely love this car.
I'd like to thank MM a fellow Pittsburgh native, for helping me decide to buy this car.

I had a 16 SX and it was a fun car. I had more fun flooring that car than my current STI.
Another interesting thing is that I got 19.3 MPG average and I am getting 17.5 in my STI right now lol. That engine really is thirsty.
I had a 16 SX also but my average MPG was a lot higher, even with hounding it a bit. My average with my Kia was around 27 MPG. I could consistently get 30 MPG or better if I kept my foot out of it. I live in a small town, very little city driving with speed limits always being 35-55 mph. That’s what made all the difference with my MPGs.
They are very overlooked. Really smooth cars too.

I have a 2015...great car but Fuel economy is worse (22)....also the handling is largely due to the rear torsion bar you didn't mention. It sucks but can be addressed by a rear sway bar. When it first released in 2015, it was the value and feature packed car, now it's dated and some of the content removed since they weren't selling....My advice for anyone interested, look for this on the used Market with an extended warranty, and buy a head unit if you want apple play

Did you know 1 horsepower is actually equivalent to 6 horses? So it would be a "0.16 horsepower mustang".
I'm trying to get a 2016 Forte Koup SX or might settle for a Forte5 SX and boi I am excited. I've always had Ford Panther platform vehicles. 4 Crown Vics and a Grand Marquis.. time to finally have a sub-7sec 0-60 and 4000lbs down to 3000lbs will be nice.
I got my 16' Koup SX a few months ago and we've put in a BOV, intercooler resonator delete, and custom muffler delete/axleback. Next up, catch can, intake from SXTH, and eventually a tune!
Just bought a used 2019 Elantra GT N Line. I was expecting the Elantra GT and Forte5 to be twins other than cosmetic differences. But in fact, they were not. Different dimensions and capacities, different gearing. They share dash, infotainment, and engine, and that's about it.
Really interesting car.Can these be tuned to squeeze out some extra pines?
For some reason these things just sat on the lot. Especially with manuals. Got mine for $16,900. They're not fast but they work. And they look good.

Seems a little less finished than the Elantra Sport or GT which has same engine and costs same or less. It’s also absurd that the manual is +2.2k with nothing bundled in. Good luck finding one if you want it; they’re going to sell about 5 of these.
I bet that tire spin would suck in the winter. I have a 18 Forte5 LX automatic. I'm curious to see how it does in the winter.

You mentioned it only had one mode. There is a normal (Eco) mode and a Sport mode.

also its damn funny they put the KM/H smaller for entire planet to use and MP/H bigger for only one country.
It doesn’t really compete with the hot hatches though. This is a compact and doesn’t compete directly with the Fiesta. More comparable to the Focus but again, it’s not really competing with the ST. It would be more in line with a Titanium model Focus. This just packs more features than a Titanium does with a better engine. You also forgot to mention the heated back seat as well.
I personally don't think this compares to the Fiesta ST or Focus ST, Matt. Maybe more the Golf, Civic Hatchback, or Mazda Hatch GT
All they need to crack that 30 hwy figure is SLIGHTLY taller gearing.... say instead of 3k at 70mph 2700rpm.... very small difference in gearing but would definently be more comfortable and get you at least 1 more hwympg..... also the handling..... tires I've learned is one of if not THE most important item or "mod" you can do to a car. Take some time look at your climate and what you expect from your car and choose what's best for you. But some ps4s or cup2..... All the way down to some cheap federal RSRR tires would totally transform the feel of that car... anything inbetween too like toyo r888 or potenza RE71R etc

J.Chan DEFINATELY the elantra gt sport. It has independent rear suspension! Also this generation forte is quite old.
Seriously just look at a GTI. Some great deals on 2017s they’ll probably be cheaper than either! Much more polished, think of it as an Audi without the negative luxury car stigma

I was just curious your thoughts on it. I have one and I love the power but LOATHE the DualClutch auto transmission. It almost ruins the car for me. (which is why i wish they'd give a manual as an option like they did with the forte5sx) So I just wondered what you'd think of it. As always keep up the good work. Thanks for the reply!!

Why would you not use the in car navigation? I have android auto in my Hyundai sonata and never use it. It is not as easy to use as the car system and also I got sick of always being interrupted when I would receive an email while driving.
It’s way easier to program and type with a phone plus the maps are always more up to date and have free live traffic alerts too.
Not to mention waaaay better voice features, I mean Google/siri vs Hyundai? No competition
I’d agree. Some navigation actually works with your phone to enter destinations and sends it to the car (BMW and Audi)

Similar mechanically. I haven't driven an Elantra hatch so it's hard for me to compare how the two drive.

Bad comparison with a Fiesta ST. That's a much smaller sub-compact. The Kia will also be far more reliable than the Ford.

@@robertclemens1217 Yeah the 1.6 Ecoboost is a total piece of shit. Numerous catastrophic faults. The 2.0 in the focus is much more hearty.

This car should be $21k. You can get a WRX for the price of this thing and a WRX is really worth 15% more at least due to multiple factors including not only the time-tested phenomenal AWD system and extra power/better handling, but mainly the resale value. people aren't afraid to spend big money on used WRX's. A used Kia FWD hatchback? I'd just wish you luck trying to re-sell one of those for more than $12,000 to $13,000 even with low miles.

But here's the problem, Subaru's are way less reliable, and they're going to stop making the WRX this year. Yes, i know, it's hard to grasp the concept as a Subaru fanboy, but it's true. Also, you're also forgetting about sales tax and dealer markups. Since WRX's are so overrated, dealers are going to mark it $20k-$30k over sticker, meanwhile, with the Kia, not so much.

Subaru bummed the boxer motor off of VW and ruined it... my brother owned 2 and neither made it past 120k miles. I drive an Elantra GT with 165k miles and it runs perfect, starts right up when it’s 0 degrees out, and with the multi link IRS and 5 speed it’s quite a bit of fun to whip around.
No offense but Elantras are for people who settle. It's like buying a Corolla or a base model Civic. I'm sure it's a fine car, just extremely boring to look at and drive. I've owned many old VW's and they last long because they don't make any horsepower. Subarus are good little motors if you take care of them, but like ANY other small turbocharged engine, of course they'll need top ends refreshed every 120 to 160k miles. I've owned multiple WRXs with 150k+ miles on them. You inevitably sacrifice a little high-mileage reliability when you're receiving respectable horsepower and torque in return.

I believe in Europe its called a C'eed GT (the Pro c'eed is the 3dr version)
They are almost GTI money in their price range over here. and a full second slower 0-60 compared to an ST or GTI.
While the Stinger GT might be good value for money this car isn't. Maybe in the States it's cheaper.
Lots of Asian cars are cheaper in the US. A BRZ/86/FRS is easily 35k-40K$ over here.

KIA has a better vehicle in their own lineup with this engine... Because they put it into a KIA Soul! Which is better !ooking and far more practical than the Forte. If you are a person enamored with hatchbacks, look to this car's cousin, the Hyundai Elantra GT Sport which has a better design and offers a multi-link rear suspension.

Why does everyone always have to compare any car to the FRS .. The first can not be compared to anything. Daily driving an FRS for two years. That car is always about cornering and going balls to the wall. If you aren't doing that you won't understand why people go with that platform. Unless you drive that car you can't say anything about it.

so you can't have it all. these car manufacturers are like playing car musical chair with interior, exterior aesthetics and quality. Don't like the sporty Civic, get this and you get cheaper looking very bad interior. While, Civic gets a more upscale interior and downscale ricer exterior! I can go on and on. Even, within Honda, they play car feature musical chair. Don't like the sporty civic with plastic faux vents everywhere? Get the new accord. You can't have it all it seems! And, to some an Accord is just too big of a car for them.

All these idoits bashing the car because its Kia fail to realize that Kia and Hyundai maks some of the more reliable cars on the road today. Wake up and join the rest of the world in 2018, Kia is not an upstart anymore, the the Stinger, Optima, Soul, Sorento, and yes the Forte prove that, just ask J.D. power and Associates. So please get off of the old and played out "It's a Kia" bandwagon because most of those people have never even driven or been inside of one!!!

The difference is that the Forte doesn't limit boost in low gears like the Mazda does. Mazda avoids wheelspin, Kia lets you spin the front tires as much as you want, leading to me having more fun.
