Straight up, you are one of my favorite youtube personalities. Something about the channel just makes me always return for the next video. Keep it up bro!
MaxSpeed My notifications make me return the the videos. But yes I totally agree. Although I find he's a little harsh at time, I enjoy the fact that he shares his opinion with us.
Back in February I picked up a leftover 2016 Forte5 SX off a local lot for $18,500 out the door. It has been a fantastic car but I would never have paid even close to sticker (~$24k) for it. Warm hatch is a great way to put it. Steering feel definitely needs some attention in the future and the independent rear isn't exactly confidence inspiring, but overall I've been very pleased.
Dude...I know it's a 6 year old comment but yeah. I got the exact same deal, except for $18,000 out the door. 6 speed manual, not the upgraded entertainment option. It has been an amazing car. Amazing daily driver. The steering is fine as long as you set it to normal/casual or whatever the menu calls it. I'm just stoked that it's paid off now...technically still under warranty but I'm starting to do some little fun mods to it.
I have a 1993 Camry V6 with 625,000 miles. Original engine and transmission. Super reliable car. Runs well. Ice cold AC. Runs like a clock and shifts like a dream. If I were to buy this Kia car, I highly doubt I would be able to get that much mileage out of the car
Are you serious? Was that for bumper to bumper? Because If It Is then you can't beat that deal. Do you know If they got rid of that warranty option? I'd strongly consider getting a new Forte5 If they still have that warranty option. I'd be set without worrying If my car has issues at 150k miles
I have a 2015 Koup SX and I still love it. Mine didn't come with the tech package which back then didn't include Apple CarPlay anyways but I do wish I had a sunroof. Of course it has turbo lag like most compact turbo cars but its easy to spin the tires and gets going pretty good when you need it to.
I used to hate Kia. We ended up with a $800 2006 Spectra (bought it as a 3rd vehicle to stop putting miles on ours) and we were surprised. It was slow, and not the best to drive hard... But the stereo is killer, the fit and finish is tight, and it rides really well. It currently has 255k miles. No bullshit. We still have it lol. We've been thinking about trading the Jetta for an Optima. Don't knock a Kia until you actually live with one. Remember Honda and Toyota in the 80s-90s? That's Kia today. Sturdy ass cars for cheap.
great video as always I've been a sucriber since day one and look how much your channel has grown and i will always come back for more keep them coming
Actual Forte5 owner here (2012MY). I agree that the fuel aconomy for these cars always seems optimistic and even then, the numbers are lower than the competitors. What sold me to the Forte5 was that I wanted something afforable with enough trunk for a double stroller, and both a foreward and rear-facing carseat in the back. The Mazda3 and Ford Focus couldn't do these things. The Elantra wagon could have done the trick but had even worse MPG than the Forte5 and the drive was completely uninspiring and underpowered. In retrospect though, for a few thousand more, I could have gotten a very sensible Optima or Sonata. Live and learn. KIA, if you're listening, work on those mileage numbers and you'll have more compact buyers looking your way! Never stop improving!
Luvia Sama it is not immature. 15 years ago Kia was known as a throw away brand. It takes time to change your image and brand. Immaturity has nothing to do with it.
777aterial Toyota was the same way but I don't see them getting the same treatment KIA has. People honestly didn't even pay attention to KIA until the Soul and Optima started to come up stealing everyone's consumers
As always, great review, Sofyan! I totally agree with you. The Forte5 could totally use a thorough redesign... This is most definetly apparent when looking at the pretty dismal fuel economy numbers, and the Forte5 is also beginning to appear a bit long in the tooth when looking at the overall interior layout, as well. This is especially apparent to me since I reviewed the 2017 Elantra Sport a few months ago, and you can almost immediately see the leap that the Elantra has taken... While the Forte seems to have been left behind, just a bit. The exterior styling looks stunning, though. Offering sleek proportions, and stylish rims. If Kia added Standard LED drl's, that would have been a nice touch to the already sophisticated & crisp design of this 5-door. I can't wait to get my hands on the NEW Elantra GT... It will be interesting to see how it stacks up to its hatchback competitors! From one automotive enthusiast to another, keep up the great work, Sofyan! 👍🏽
I have a 2015 sx F5 and I do enjoy my car but this is a warm hatch, and is an all arounder, larger than a GTI and not as ugly as a Civic Sport wagon...biggest issue I have had with it is the fear of engine issues despite warranty. I've always put premium synthetics in this car at the recommended weight at a OCI of 3k and even so, I get the occasional silver flakes in my oil. I've moved to a Motul to help out but am glad I have that powertrain warranty. This being my first turbo, I think I'll be looking at what NA's are still around in a few years
I have this model in white and I love it. I was a nice change coming from a 2013 Optima SX. Great daily and he's right. If you can find a good deal on it id pick one up.
trenton alexander I have both wifey has the optima now. Her 2006 Accord crapped out on her. Don't get me wrong it's my baby but I love my forte. I personally hate the new body style for the 2016+ optimas.
Great review, was thinking about the Forte5 SX, but after watching your review, I've changed my mind. With the kinda bland interior and just being overpriced. For what you get, I'm leaning towards the Elantra Sport
Actually the model you reviewed had LED DRL. I think you made a mistake with that fact. Go back to the shot of the the front and you'll see it. I have the normal sedan and moving from a Mazda I love it. Never thought I'd say that about a Kia.
grayheet I see what you're saying, but those aren't DRLs, they're "positioning lights," which is a fancy way of saying parking lights. They only come on if the headlight switch is in that position. Plus, they aren't bright enough to be considered DRLs by any standard.
I can confirm, they only come on when the full headlights are turned on. I found that really surprising because DRL's are really common and they would look really nice lit up in the day time and I think they are bright enough. What would be really cool is if the LED's around the fog lights acted as DRL's
Actually guys not really. I could be wrong since the US models may be a bit different. Those lights will remain on but under certain condition and that condition is that the parking brake should not be up. They turn on automatically when the parking brake is down. So with the headlight off and parking brake up they will not turn on, and yes they are pretty bright trust me. On our roads you can tell them from a mile away. It's gotten to the point where some people in the Korean market where the car is known as the K3 have figured out a way to get them to also function as turn signals. Where I'm from some people were wondering if there is any way to turn them off and we had to let them know unless they wanna drive with the hand brake up they are not gonna get those DRL to turn off.
In my case I was and still is a huge Mazda fan. Most of my friends thought that when I changed my last Mazda that I'd get the Mazda 3. When it was time to buy a new car the Kia Forte and the Mazda 3 we're at the top of my list. In my country which is pretty small by your standards the vehicles come with the Australian 1.6 engine and tuning. The Mazda lost for me because I felt that they need to have an engine that did not feel as underpowered as the previous models. A few years ago many of my friends were like a Kia oh hell no I'll walk. Now everyone here is like you know Kia has really stepped up their game and are making cars that can compete with the others.
I see what you're saying. Yeah, they aren't required on cars in the U.S. for some reason. What's even more dumb is that Kia could've put LED DRLs on the U.S. cars without any added cost, but instead chose to intentionally remove them from the U.S. models. Pretty stupid if you ask me
David Hosler That's exactly the spec I want too! I'm about to take my road test in a week and that's literally the only car that suits my wants and needs. 20 years old, come from a family of drivers so I'm not some amateur speed hungry teen lol. What color did you get?
The Forte5 isn't a bad car for what you get, but if you're considering this sporty version I would just put up the extra cash for a VW GTI. There is a notable difference in interior quality and driving dynamics. If you're into the Civic's quirky design I would consider that as well. The Civic's interior quality isn't all that great, but it's one of the best driving hatchbacks and can be had with a Honda manual.
Why would anyone buy this over an Elantra sport or Elantra GT sport? The Elantra is newer, has more features, costs about the same, and looks better. The only advantage with the Forte is the cooled seats, but that's about it
thecarelectronicguy I totally agree with the elantra sport, but for now, I believe the 2017 elantra gt is a terrible value. It doesn't have a lot of the features this car has. Doesn't even have led taillights in the top trim which the 2016 (and my 2014) has. Seems like they took a step backwards with the 2017 model.. Maybe in preparation for the 2018?
One of the reasons for the Elantra GT sport being more expensive is because of the independent rear suspension which costs more to make. The Kia continues to use a torsion beam suspension in the rear.
thecarelectronicguy i like the red interior lights in kia instead of the blue cheap interior lights that hyundai has, thats why i got my forte 2015 :'D
I do think the Elantra turbo looks better and its a newer platform which is better .. however i think hyundai\kia should develop the engine or atleast make some changes , u can find this 1.6 turbo in the veloster , soul , elantra , forte , pro ceed , i30 and they all make the same 201 hp which gets buyer confused ..
I have a 2014 Kia Forte5 EX trim with all the option packages and I love it! I can see a few updates in the interior that they've done compared to mine, even the middle TFT screen between the gauges looks different too. I'm surprised about the rear seats, my car has heated rear sets. I wonder if it was removed in the refresh or just for the SX.
my buddy has a Kia forte and it is like riding in an old 1976 go cart we made in our garage when we were teens ! sorry the go kart was better built and prob had more HP , lol . this compares to a disposable razor !
It is curious to say the least that Kia which I thought was considered their sportier offering does not offer anything with an Independent suspension till you move up to the Optima. Even the Optima may not handle as well as the new Sonata which got a significant suspension tuning update along with the restyle. I wonder if this going to signify a shift in the branding with Hyundai now becoming their sportier brand.
Redline thanks for your awesome reviews! A review on the six speed Elantra GT Sport would be much appreciated. I'm glad to see Hyundai offering a manual on the sport trim. A big disappointment (to me) is no available tech package on the manual transmission. Personally, I would trade the tech package to row my own gears. Also I'd love to hear your take on the exhaust compared to the sedan. I'm under the impression the GT Sport is tame sounding compared to the sedan Elantra Sport.
I had a SX '15 and tha car was nice but the manual transmission was not too good, sometimes was hard to go in 4th gear, and also the handsfree conection had some problems.
can you recline the back seats when you're showing off the cargo area? it'd be nice to visually see how much more space i made and how flat the seats fold down.
also while it does go on regular, alot of 1.6t owners advice taking this with a grain of salt: if you drive it hard and in a harsh environment, you may need to go higher. SInce it's a turbo, the stock Intercooler has a hard time keeping the air temps low and once it starts to get above 134 degrees (and and a few stops in a georgian summer it will), you'll need higher octane to keep it safe. This is why the mpg's are so trash in this car (and the tail pipes so sooty): it DUMPS fuel to protect itself....I guess I can appreciate that though it's wasteful....a better Intercooler from the factory like in the Elantra sport, would have helped the car and the environment.
Indeed, the reliability of Fords is well below that of Kia and Hyundai. The power shit transmission in the regular Fiesta and Focus will literally shit itself. There is a worldwide recall on those dual clutch transmissions so unless you're a brain dead motoring journalist, don't buy the Fords.
DRL is thee worst "safety" equipment put in cars, people think their lights are on at night when there's no lights on in the back of the car and the fronts are barely even on their dim because they think the lights are on because they're dash lights are on how is we have people gotten so lazy we can't turn the switch but we can be on our phones and texting 500 million times a day but we need something to turn a switch to turn our lights on that we've done for many and many and many years do not trust daytime running lights I'm surprised there isn't any more accidents due to them people Miss judging
I own an 17 Elantra and I never have this issue. The only time I have to override the headlight switch from "Auto" to "on" is when it's raining, and that's only if its too light for the light sensor. The car I have seen the most with this issue is actually the new Nissan Murano... I see them with their DRLs on at night all the time. I think DRLs are a great feature, its easier to see a silver car with its DRLs on coming at you vs a silver car with no lights on.
They need to tie DRL to the clock in the car. Assuming the owner sets the correct time then the DRL should shut off at 6 or 7pm and force them to actually turn the lights on. My 2005 Camry has auto headlights so I don't get why people don't just leave their lights on the Auto setting and forget it like I do.
In the pass 6 years, Kia's styling looked better than its brother Hyundai but Hyundai always felt better in terms of quality built. But recently, Hyundai has surpass the exterior department to Kia and making them the better brother.
Well, at the moment if you are going to compare this car to its platform mate, the Elantra, we'd prefer the Hyundai because its the newer platform. But Kia also makes some great vehicles, we'd take the Sorento over a Santa Fe.
MrCarGuy20 I'm not talking about The Kia's sold in the US, the KDM ones have a different badge. Just Google "Korean Kia badge", it looks so much nicer but sadly you have to debadge your car for one, since none come from the factory with them in the US.
Harrison Leigh wow it does look sick!!! But I can see why it won't be used here. Looking at it really quick, it kind of looks like a Mazda bagde but sideways in some of the imagines I saw
IAm waiting for the day that sofyan says, This hyundai or Kia is so much better than a Honda civic, or Mazda 3.!! Then I'll know hell has frozen over.!! lol
The Wolf yup, they did make great cars in the 80s and 90s. Now just average like everyone else. The people who ran, designed, engineerd, those cars have probably mostly retired, The new generation of people running the company are doing it differently.
CVTs are a deal breaker and all japanese cars unfortunately have turned to CVTs... Hyundai kia is only company in that region to offer a real automatic tranny... Sporty cars and CVTs don't mix... Sorry for all those with CVTs including Civic...
My 2016 VW GTI (manual) gets better gas millage than this... If I took that same 200 mile road trip I am sure I would have gotten about 35mpg. That gas millage has to get better to even think about recommending this. A couple extra fancy features like remembering seat positions or cooled seats is not much added value compared to what you will pay at the pump and what you will lose to depreciation (especially compared to a civic) even with a 1.5k price break over a base civic. On the other end my 28k is much better spent in a GTI, which I did :)
Too bad about the transmission. They have a manual but will sell next to none charging over 2k for it. I’d imagine the transmission would be a deal breaker for some.
Chrome accents scream IM CHEAP. You can add all the options you want but your still not in a VW. Also why is the fuel mileage so bad? Pretty much any VW/Audi/BMW or Ford with a 2.0T kills it by a lot.
trenton alexander dude, it's a joke! North Korea and south Korea are bitter enemies, North Korea has nothing to do with Hyundai or Kia. ever hear of the Korean War in the early 1950s? surely they taught about it in your history class. North Korea even threatens to nuke south korea. and even us lately.

Engines gets smaller every year soon you'll have no engine. only a twin turbo transmission with 10 speeds
bare badness 😂
bare badness lol. Can't wait for the .1 litre engines.
Ford already has the fiesta 1 liter engine
bare badness it's not the size that matters. It's what you do with your size that counts. Big things come in small packages
Just like my penis
Back in February I picked up a leftover 2016 Forte5 SX off a local lot for $18,500 out the door. It has been a fantastic car but I would never have paid even close to sticker (~$24k) for it. Warm hatch is a great way to put it. Steering feel definitely needs some attention in the future and the independent rear isn't exactly confidence inspiring, but overall I've been very pleased.

I absolutely loved my 2009 kia spectra and for 11 years it treated me great. Just wanted to say that 😁
What new car did you end up getting ?
I have a 1993 Camry V6 with 625,000 miles. Original engine and transmission. Super reliable car. Runs well. Ice cold AC. Runs like a clock and shifts like a dream.
If I were to buy this Kia car, I highly doubt I would be able to get that much mileage out of the car
There's a Kia dealership in my area offering a 20 year/200,000 mile warranty
Chris McManus yea i know i got it myself you cant beat that at all
What?????
20 YEAR WARRANTY!?!?!
Are you serious? Was that for bumper to bumper? Because If It Is then you can't beat that deal. Do you know If they got rid of that warranty option? I'd strongly consider getting a new Forte5 If they still have that warranty option. I'd be set without worrying If my car has issues at 150k miles

I just bought one! I love it 6 speed manual
Best looking hatch in its class!
Wow! Rear seat air vents, not even the Civic or Corolla have that.
Jake Mace I thought the Civic sedan had the rear seat air vents
+trenton alexander Nope.

Luvia Sama why don't you like the elantra sport
Oh my god yes I’ve been waiting for this. Hopefully you can get the new Elantra GT sport soon!
I dig the rims much better than the ones on the 2018 elantra GT

Nice Review Of 2017 Kia Forte5 SX Turbo. 😁
Could you review the 2018 Hyundai Elantra GT Sport with the DCT transmission?
Devin Worthy Yea. That would be nice.
yes please!
Same
Devin Worthy I just bought one last week . It's by far one of the best cars I've ever drove . I got mine with the tech package

You mentioned the Elantra GT a few times. I am wondering if you will do a review of the Elantra GT?
can you recline the back seats when you're showing off the cargo area? it'd be nice to visually see how much more space i made and how flat the seats fold down.
God damn, I just checked Kia's website. They charge an EXTRA $2200 for manual transmission. F- that.
Awesome review as always but Pleeaaasseee do a review of the 2018 Elantra GT Sport :DDD
this KIA has a dual clutch but the Aventador does not. WHY?!?!?!?
The 2018 Hyundai Elantra gt has cooled seats
AlexOnAuto would argue that the corollaIM handles better. That car does have rear independent suspension. It's a night and day difference.
this engine 1.6 turbo is available on the high trim of Kia soul, Hyundai elantra GT sport and Kia Forte5 SX , which one would you recommend to buy ?
also while it does go on regular, alot of 1.6t owners advice taking this with a grain of salt: if you drive it hard and in a harsh environment, you may need to go higher.
Can you do a full review on the 17-18 subaru impreza sport wagon?
How does my 3.5L v6 2006 Pontiac G6 get better gas mileage than this 1.6L 4 banger? I'm getting 33mpg combined right now.
depends on your driving.....i think normal driving with kia up to 2500 RPM so u dnt open the turbo should be OK
The Entrant GT seems like a better car, especially the Sport model. This is due to the better styling (to me) and inclusion of manual transmission.
Who in their right mind would purchase one of these over a Focus or Fiesta ST? This model prices out at ~$28K when all is said and done.
Ryan W. Someone who doesn't want their car to fall apart and break down
Well then...you obviously have no clue about those two cars lol.
Ryan W. I have a clue that the Kia won't break down after 10 years
Ryan W. Lol
Is this call the kia cerato in australia?
Looks nice but that bad fuel economy is a deal breaker for me.
Remember that kid with the forte on the smoking tire one take?
Safe to assume u would choose the Elantra hatch n line over this?
Xavier Urbina I also have 17 Elantra, love the auto headlights, all cars should have this feature, period.
Xavier Urbina but you have a Hyundai not a Kia so it's different
Xavier Urbina I also have a 17 Elantra, if you turn the wipers on wait a minute or two and they headlights will come on by themselves
Whys the Hyundai i30N not coming to the US??
I like the color.
Could you fit a full size spare under the mat thing in the back?
Alex Carr no
If only Hyundai would bring the i30 N to North America, well I guess we can settle for Stinger/Veloster N/Tucson N.
In the pass 6 years, Kia's styling looked better than its brother Hyundai but Hyundai always felt better in terms of quality built. But recently, Hyundai has surpass the exterior department to Kia and making them the better brother.
how are kia (and korean) cars' reliability? ive heard they have chronic drivetrain issues in the past.......
Chris W kia is good nowaday
Redline Reviews do you prefer Hyundai or Kia
Well, at the moment if you are going to compare this car to its platform mate, the Elantra, we'd prefer the Hyundai because its the newer platform. But Kia also makes some great vehicles, we'd take the Sorento over a Santa Fe.
I'd go with the Elantra Sport.
Why don’t you just come out and say you don’t like KIA.
Single latter edge identical invite approve investigate surprising.
does this car have independent rear suspension
KIA badge is the worst. Their cars are good though
the Korean KIA badge is so much nicer, I wish they'd just stick those on their cars here.
Harrison Leigh I've seen several "made in Korea" Kias in the USA with the traditional badge.
MrCarGuy20 I'm not talking about The Kia's sold in the US, the KDM ones have a different badge. Just Google "Korean Kia badge", it looks so much nicer but sadly you have to debadge your car for one, since none come from the factory with them in the US.
Yeah, it has that Walmart vibe to it.
Harrison Leigh wow it does look sick!!! But I can see why it won't be used here. Looking at it really quick, it kind of looks like a Mazda bagde but sideways in some of the imagines I saw
Looks better than the elantra gt.
There is a day time light.
4 1/2 minutes in and I’m already getting a Hyundai before this. Bottom of the list below a truck.
Hey you drove by the Graham road and Arlington Blvd ;)
Seems like Hyundai is heading the right direction for sportiness while KIA needs more work. Plus I'm not really a fan of the interior.
Joshua Johnson I'm pretty sure Hyundai competes more with Mazda and Honda While kia compete with Toyota
trenton alexander attack the competition from all sides!
-Hyundai/Kia
trenton alexander Honda has always been after Toyota. I'm pretty sure their main focus is Toyota since Toyota is the top.
The actual Korean hot hatch is the 2018 Hyundai Elantra gt sport!
Is it faster than a civic si?
IAm waiting for the day that sofyan says, This hyundai or Kia is so much better than a Honda civic, or Mazda 3.!! Then I'll know hell has frozen over.!! lol
Steve Franklin is the Civic even an option anymore in such a competitive segment
The laggy dashboard is funny
Too bad about the transmission. They have a manual but will sell next to none charging over 2k for it. I’d imagine the transmission would be a deal breaker for some.
Why is the dash melting to the right ? Who designed that ? The whole dash looks like it's sliding down hill 😂
But it’s not available in Korea
29 mpgs paltry? I'm at 23 mpgs in the older 2015....must be the tune in this one.
They should've made the Sportage look like this, instead of whatever the hell it is.
Except a honda civic is an underpowered car, and if i am not mistaken CVT. CVT's only purpose for existence is mpg.
That's a 2,700 - 3,000 lb vehicle. 201 hp is enough to have some fun with but nothing impressive. Get it up to 270 hp and the you'll have something.
Kia stinger please!!
Chrome accents scream IM CHEAP. You can add all the options you want but your still not in a VW.
Also why is the fuel mileage so bad? Pretty much any VW/Audi/BMW or Ford with a 2.0T kills it by a lot.
how much is north korea involved with the hyundai and kia companies ?
Sam Sheth it's South Korea North Korea has nothing to do with Kia and Hyundai because that's a communist country
i read somewhere that there are significant north korean investors of those companies though
Glorious comrade Kim Jong-Un created the 1.6 T-GDI with his own bare hands
Sam Sheth that's a little scary that North Korea can bring cars over here to the US
trenton alexander dude, it's a joke! North Korea and south Korea are bitter enemies, North Korea has nothing to do with Hyundai or Kia. ever hear of the Korean War in the early 1950s? surely they taught about it in your history class. North Korea even threatens to nuke south korea. and even us lately.
most of these new cars just sound agricultural.wtf.what ever happened to a good exhaust note.
Sexy Forte, love the Hatch model.
When you talk about the engine atlest tell how much horse power it have... Pf
Too bad you didn't get a manual car to test.
The asymmetrical center stack on the Forte has always drove me nuts! It's a very sloppy design.
👍
