    I bought this 18 Elantra GT sport in September. I absolutely love this car. Very stylish and the stock exhaust note sounds great. Very fun car to drive, I also love the red accents and I got the red seat belts which I love. You get your moneys worth with this car. Definitely recommend this car.

    I bought this car the day it came out in September and absolutely love it . I got the sport with the tech package . Wish it had more horse power but plenty for passing anyone on the highway and getting up to speed . Have had so many people tell me that it looks like an Audi not a Hyundai. Everyone is definitely impressed , as am I . Love the car

    One thing I noticed: I've never heard a reviewer laugh as much as Sofyan did in this one. Clearly, he was having a good time driving this car, and was also surprised about it. That speaks well for the car.

    Great review. I bought one in November and I'm quite happy. Your criticisms are on point, as are your compliments. I feel the Honda won't age gracefully, it's too boy racer for me, and while I would love a Golf GTI this comes closer and was much cheaper with more features. My last Hyundai Elantra GT held up great and did every thing I needed, but this is better. As for people commenting on resale value, if you're buying a new car or truck you're going to lose money. Get something you like and will keep and it doesn't matter.
    Well done Hyundai.

    • @klasseact6663
      @klasseact6663 7 років тому +58

      Huy Bui ...THIS mentality is weak, KIA and Hyundai aren't the jokes they used to be, have you been under a rock? I'd take this over a Focus or Cruize hatch any day and it would give the Honda a run for its money, Mazda too.

      Kia has been way more reliable than Honda over the past few years, don't give that crap that Japanese cars are automatically more reliable. And this and the Forte 5 look SO much better and more stylish than the Civic by far. I think the Civic is so freakin ugly especially with the chrome bar grille.

    Great review but please take a minute to fold down the seats on hatchbacks so we can see if it folds flat etc. Very important for hatchback shopper thanks

    • @brodieboy3
      @brodieboy3 4 роки тому

      Unfortunately - the high end trim model of the Elantra GT sport - now Nline - doesn't fold flat because Hyundai for some reason didn't include the dual tier boot cover. It's included on the base Nline. Supposedly it's an issue with the subwoofer in the upper trim that interferes with the adjustable load floor shelf, but that's something they need to fix as it really hinders the usability of the hatch not having a level load floor when you fold down the back seats. There are times when you want the deeper trunk/ boot, but not when loading long items that you need to slide forward.

    I want to say thank you. Because of your review of the 2017 Elantra Sport, I bought one. I really love the car and the gas mileage believe of not it's better than my previous 2015 Corolla LE. I get about 7.2L/100km on the Elantra sport and I got 7.5L/100km on my Corolla. I really love the feel of the power and it's very comfy inside. Sounds awesome and lots of power for everyday use. The only 2 complains I have it's not good for traffic because the dual clutch it's not really smooth, and the service in Canada here is AWFUL. Since the moment I made up my mind I was going to get this car, the sale service was very poor, the financial department was so bad that they mixed up my payment and insurance multiple times and they even missed shipping with only one key and I almost needed to pay out of pocket on the second key. I really hated the sales service in here Canada but I really love the car. It's surely the love hate relationship.

    Last fall, 2017, We went through the car purchase process. Followed your video, since.
    Yup, loved all the models tested. That Plano roof was nice. My only annoyance of that model driven, the Elantra GT Sport was the way my right knee hit the centre console. This later model may not be the same? It was probably my body type? For anyone interested in the small car will enjoy the experience I am sure? Just be aware they are still an econo=box. A good one. Even so. In the end we went for a KIA. In my area the KIA shop has a very good one.That plus a ten year, warranty bumper to bumper. The Forte range is the sister company's offering, similar to Elantra. I agree the Sport's trim are the better ones. Mine's a dual clutch but I'm an old guy. Tried a Sport Fit with stick but after a now life time of autos, it is hard to switch back ... Cheers

    I'd say if drawing comparisons to the Civic SI, this car seems that much better than its predecessors, whereas the Civic seems a bit less true to form. Now, obviously, the SI has been doing its thing for a while, and the Elantra GT is coming into it's own, but it seems like every model year Hyundai is steadily improving the Elantra's styling, quality, and it's ergonomics better than the competition. Definitely an impressive entry into the segment.

    I enjoyed the review. You talked about both the good and bad and it seems to be unbiased, which is good. I have two suggestions. One is to shorten the time of leaving the hood open while you are talking to make sure you are heard clearly when delivering information. Second is to find a less travled road to do the driving test. You can definitely see there are many country homes along the road and you were obviously driving a bit too fast to be safe and respectful.

    Just recently purchased a used ‘18 GT Base (with the automatic and no options). Even though it is a little weaker than the GT Sport/N-Line, I’m still enjoying it quite a lot! In my first week of driving it, I’ve been averaging 28.4 MPG in mixed city and highway driving (in the St. Louis area in both Missouri and Illinois), so I’ve managed to beat the EPA averages (a little trick to that is on the highway I use the manual mode to keep it in sixth gear even when going up hills...it helps a lot because I’ve noticed the transmission doesn’t like hill climbing all that much). Handling and ride are no issues for me, despite the torsion beam in the rear. I can still corner no problem. Great car, and I’m glad I bought it!

      The Car Crazy Guy I am old enough to Remember the late 60s and early 70 s when Honda and Toyota were selling cars just like the excel, junk. They got themselves together and by the 80s were selling good cars. Hyundai has gone thru the same growing pains. It's been 32 years since 1986. They make good solid nice cars now. I've had 3, all were reliable, trouble free for me. And I have owned a Honda and Toyota. currently, I have a 2017 Elantra, 26000 miles, 0 problems. nice comfortable car. I am happy with it.

    Sofyan, think you can find out why Hyundai didn't re-use the better flat-bottom steering wheel from the Elantra Sport?

    • @theredline
      @theredline  7 років тому +4

      We're not entirely sure, but we think it came down to cost and the different platform. This car isn't built in the same plant as the Elantra sedan and it would have been pricey to just change the steering wheel for the US market.

    I absolutely love this vehicle. I am in the market for a new car, but the one thing that i CANNOT stand is the "door Lock and Unlock button" being in the middle console, near the radio. Don't understand why they just didn't put it on the door when it belongs. #SMH

    I think people have become too accustomed the idea of over extending their finances to purchase cars. I guess I'm getting old, but I look at cars nowadays as poor investments no matter how you slice it. In my research this segment is the best compromise if you absolutely need just a little pep in your commute.

      You can add a bolt-on upgrade for $900, and make 280 hp. So for a little over $25000, you can basically have an i30n for $6000 less thank in i30n.

    If you are using this in heavy traffic on a daily basis that will break that dual clutch transmission more so if it is dry clutch they need to stick with a cvt or atf. You don't need any limited slip unless you going to drive in mud or heavy snow because those have clutch pack in that tends to break faster than a normal diff.

    Now this is a really nice Elantra now I like the interior because it's got a stylish European design now I'd buy this over any comparable Civic because that car is very tacky looking now I don't know how I feel about the 7-spd dual clutch transmission if it'll be durable in the long run now I suspect this turbo engine will be more problematic in the long run now the standard 2.0L will probably be more reliable in the long run but not as much fun.

    Re the 'blank buttons adjacent to the 7speed DCT, in Australia on the the model at on your test, there's a 'forward parking assist' which is audible & includes front and independent either side orange and red when it's time to stop. Can't see why such a big market as your's omits such a helper. Hyundai Australia did hundreds of rear suspension settings as our population is only 24 million, but our country/continent is the same size as the Contiguous USA in area, with roads from city, freway/tollways to outback 'washboard red dirt' & we like power to pass double semi tailers (B Doubles) & ultra long 'Road Trains' [say 5 or 6 trailers hauled by a massive 'prime mover' truck] that cruises up to about 140kph in the North. Heat is our enemy here, so opening all that roof is great if your car is parked on top of a mall, & the cooled seats are great too. Also, on the model as tested by you, the safety belts are red & that themes well. This 'Premium' i30 is overshadowed by similarly suspension tuned i30N, with only the max powerplant, but manual only until DCT arrives shortly. Wierdly, Australia has previously been [per capita] the best selling i30 market. The 5 year warranty sure helps!
