Y’all need to bring back this style of video as a mid-week check in. I know there aren’t always celebrations but even going to the store or walking the streets would be great to see thru your eyes.
Sardines are an acquired taste for estrangeiros. Great when presented well and with the right company (group)! Tip… never eat them and drink water (red wine; white wine, pink wine are great!) but never water! Congrats on your initiation…
He had plenty of vino, but could not get over the little bones. He did say that he liked the flavor though. As for me, I don't even eat tuna salad sandwiches so this was a no-go from the start. 🤪🤣
@@OurBlackUtopia i don t know if u eat it with bread, but if not you don t have to eat the sardines with the bones. Try once in a good restaurant served with potatoes.. They are absolutely delicious
😊 you felt it as random and inviting because a lot of what you saw was organised by the local population in each neighbourhood in a very independent way, built on top of decades or centuries of tradition. Most people you saw behind the stalls probably live just a few houses away, or have a very deep connection to that neighbourhood, and they do it because it’s tradition, because first and foremost it’s a neighbours’ festivity. In many ways it’s like Lisbon is collection of little villages "competing" to give everyone a good time. The same about the parade.
More great inspiration! Thank you! Since we arrive in July, we are going to miss the June festivals. I hope that we luck up on some "random" street fests while we are there! (Actually, my fiance and I often seem to find a party when we travel, so I hope we keep that luck going while we are in Lisbon!)
I hope so too! We were not here last July, so we're not sure - what's going on. Each neighborhood (freguesia) has different events and festivities so you should find the website for whichever freguesia you're staying in. Note that in the city proper you're never that far from most others...
😆 nightlife? Black-owned, Tabernáculo in Bica has live jazz/R&B in the evenings. Join Black in Portugal too - they have events and folks who do a lot more nightlife than we do. We are out in the streets but usually hanging out with friends and not going to a club/bar necessarily. 😉
I'm not sure, but join the Black in Portugal FB group. They usually give the 411 about cultural events and even have their own planned events. We went to two while we where there and met folks that we now consider friends!
just a small warning. in Portugal even in public people have the right of privacy. just be careful filming in public. please move to Portugal as soon as possible, we would love to have you here.
I am Portuguese and I don't like sardines. (There, I said it.) Bacalhau rocks!
You're not 100% portuguese if you don't like our number 2 national dish. 😉
🤣😅😂 Thank you for your honesty - Ric didn't like them either. 🤣😅😂
what?!...blasphemy ! Bacalhau is king, sardinha is queen. 🤘

We just need to find the time to edit all of the footage - but we "gottchu". 😉
The electric slide is all around the world. Get it ! Get it !
You know it is when they're doing the electric slide to traditional Portuguese music.
Wow!!! Looks like they party all night long.looks fun
Right?!?! - It was sooo much fun!

My husband and I are visiting Lisbon in October (scouting trip). Would love to meet for coffee one day.
That would be great. Email us at hello@ourblackutopia.com before you leave and we will have some locations by then.
We will be there 10/23- 10/25
Sent my contact information to the email
Looks like a lot of fun, so happy you got to experience that.
We had a ball. We were fortunate to be in Spain when they were having their Christmas festivals and it was the same feeling.
We left Lisbon for our AirBnB in Albufeira just before the parade and festivities began. Thanks for covering some of what we missed!
Our pleasure, I would've shown more of the party outside of our window but didn't want to get into copyright issues. I may post some on IG.

I cannot wait until next year to visit some other neighborhood celebrations! Thanks @ppietra p for always ADDING to the conversation!

The festivals look like so much fun! I love Sardines and want to try the big ones...LOL!
So much fun, but they can keep the sardines. Ric said the little bones made it tough to enjoy but that the flavor was good.
@@OurBlackUtopia grilled Sardines and Salted Cod are a religion in Portugal :)
Lovely good vibes video. Thanks for sharing.✨🌟☀️
You are so welcome and thank you for watching!
You must live the vibe in Porto, at 23 June, St.John. Porto is quality, Lisbon is quantity!
Next year and we will be residents! Thank you for watching.
Thanks for your videos. Hubby and I are visiting in February and wondering if you can provide suggestions for nightlife. Thanks in advance!!

Hi. I enjoyed the video. Thanks for sharing. I'll be visiting Lisbon late September. Is there any cultural festival planned for that time?

I was thinking about that as I was editing. I took a lot out that showed too many faces. Hopefully this fun video will not offend folks.
try grilled sardines with potatoes instead of bread :)
Thanks for watching! Ric said he will try one more time now that he knows the correct way to eat them. As for me, 🤢 seafood is not for me 🥴
