I'm sitting here at my computer in my little bungalow in the Midlands, all warm and toasty, something tasty cooking in my kitchen oven, a glass of red wine by my side, and thinking you must be absolutely bonkers, but enjoying every moment. Thanks.
Hi Austin Lucy and Marley I got back from a weeks trucking on Friday and I've not stopped watching your vids yet (no telly) they are fab and I might have graced the bald explorer with the same praise but your vids are like produced tv shows your filming and editing is top notch. Cadir idris almost made my eye's wet It's 23 years since I went up that mountain with the R.A.F. and I thought well I might just remember a bit. But that bit where you fell in we had lunch there and then "went up" on the exact same path. Oh and THAT view. Please keep the vids coming guys they are fabulous, best wish's and lots of love from the peak district
Thank you very much 👍 Great to hear you’re enjoying them 👍. Cadir Idris is our favourite place in Snowdonia and the gully up is our favourite route and as you say , that view! We may be back there this weekend but it’s a toss up between that and the Carneddau. Either way the weather looks terrible! Lol. Cheers . Austin and Lucy.
I'm not a camper, but I sure admire those who are! Even without the snow, it was a long, hard trek to get to the bothy. My hats off to you and fellow Explorer Buddies! For me, I would have made the trek if I knew there was a nice little BnB at the end with a sweet couple who handed you a steaming cup of tea, ushered you to sit by the roaring fire, had a hot meal prepared, and showed you to your rooms with a warm bed with clean, crisp linens. You are TRUE campers. P.S. The contrast drone shots of the bothy, with and without snow at the intro, was AMAZING! Thanks for taking the time to video your journey and sharing it with us.
Thank you very much 👍We must admit we'd have been happy at a b+b on the last visit lol. This was how it should have been . Cheers . Atb. Austin and Lucy.
Definitely avoid the route shown by OS map when approaching from South on foot. In bad weather that first ford can be waist deep! Instead take the fire road North at yoga pose fork then down the gully at the edge of the forest on your left. It's soft going in places but way easier to get down/up again.
Cheers guys. It was good to get out with Marley again and great to see the guys as well , always a good laugh with them . Cheers . Atb . Austin and Lucy.
We loved the last vid of the bothy in the snow, so to go back and show us again what it's like without the snow is great. It looks a beautiful place, great drone footage. And Marley is a darling, love him. Really enjoying your channel 👍🏻
Thank you . It was a lot easier this time thankfully and great to see it in a different guise. Marley's our little baby 🐕❤️ . Cheers . Austin and Lucy.
Great to see Marley again in his many outfits, lot better weather this time.Great drone footage especially when you went slowly down the stream then took off.
Hi, I'm looking for some advice. We're heading to the Brecon Beacons and really need a bit of peace. I know, right, why book a holiday somewhere popular. The draw of the water has brought us here and I'm keen to continue my love of wild swimming. We're staying in Abercraf and would like to avoid the popular spots and Waterfall Country as it looks to be heaving at the moment. Any tips welcome and locations too. We don't mind travelling for the perfect, quiet location and also don't mind a good walk either. Many thanks. L
Hi , i'd say llyn Fan Fawr would be a good one to visit . Its a good walk from the Tafarn-y- Garreg pub and is usually a quieter Llyn . If you want to extend the walk you could carry on to Llyn Fan Fach but this will definitely be busier although its big enough to walk round the back end and enjoy the peace. Here's a link to our visit a few years ago ua-cam.com/video/WeGTpwtul2k/v-deo.html . goo.gl/maps/1RHHpaqbySjRboyb8 Here's a link for the pub. And here's a link to an alternative and much shorter walk (1/2 hour) to Llyn Fan Fach . It would be fantastic early morning or at dusk . goo.gl/maps/cgBmcpkeFAvD8tsd6. Hope this is of some help and have a great time 👍.
Hi. I think it was a good example you set leaving firewood , candles & food for others. Very neighbourly and unselfish. Well done. I've never done anything quite like this before but if I can talk my friends into it this location looks so idyllic & tranquil that I may follow in your footsteps if I can work out directions. Hope to meet you one day, maybe in this bothy. ATB, Dave Simons in Cornwall.
Hi Dave and thank you. Unfortunately the time we visited this bothy previously we left in a bit of a hurry due to the weather conditions and only left enough wood to start a fire . We thought we'd leave a good bit this time to make up for that . We really would recommend a visit , as it's as you say idyllic. If you need any help with post codes or grid refs let us know . Cheers . Austin and Lucy.
Love the shot at 8:28 Austin! So tranquel and beautiful with the light shining through the trees and the sound of the brook (another one to hang on the wall me thinks!) - really captures the essence of the bothy, then combined with your crazy snow shots, shows how things can change from peaceful to extreme. Awesome weekend as always Austin and Lucy! Thanks for linking me at the end :)
The opening shots switching between the snow and this video was amazing , great to get out with you both again and the bothy was so cool. Roll on more adventures in 2018 :-)
i know Im randomly asking but does anybody know of a trick to get back into an Instagram account?? I was dumb lost the login password. I would appreciate any assistance you can give me
@Dakari Luca Thanks so much for your reply. I got to the site on google and im trying it out atm. Looks like it's gonna take quite some time so I will get back to you later when my account password hopefully is recovered.
had the same problem crossing wide streams in that part of Wales and the peak District. i always carry a pair of heavy duty bin bags, put one on each leg and hold them both up over the knee with one hand. hold walking pole in other hand and slowly Wade across. use a stone or pole inside bags as weight and throw back to my wife to use. they will get tiny holes in them but only a very small amount of water will get in and they should do a few crossings. crude method but it works very well.
funny you should say that Rob . Lucy had a pair of thin plastic over boots which she lent to Ellie . They only lasted two crossings so we said we'd bring heavy duty bin sacks next time . It's a great idea 👍 Cheers . Austin .
Oh man, them river crossings, an absolute mare if you went in, thankfully nobody did lol. Good to see Marley out again and enjoying himself. Great drone footage as always but such a shame the only appeared when you were going home. Great watch as always, cheers Alan
And to think we didn't have to cross them if we'd have gone the way we came out .It made it more interesting though lol. It was lovely when the sun came out and Marley was in his element again. Cheers . Austin and Lucy 🐶
Thanks Mike . We do intend to start uploading and editing again but finding the time is proving difficult. I blame the grandkids lol Hopefully we’ll get something up in the new year 🤞. Have a great Xmas and new year !!
Just found your channel, watched couple of your videos and they're awesome, really enjoying it! Really nice editing and great shots, makes me feel like I'm there... as I don't have much wilderness in my area, it's great to experience it with you. Thanks for the videos and keep them going. Greetings from Israel :)
Hi guys enjoyed the return not as nail biting as your last visit lol that was a riveting watch Love the location of the bothy it looks beautiful thanks for taking us along till next time atvb to you both chris
Hi, thank you 👍. Here’s a link . Worth bearing in mind that you probably won’t be able to cross the river after rain though as someone commented that they get waist deep . He suggested another way so if you scroll the comments you’ll find it 👍. That link goo.gl/maps/1KNNs9hz7VMJwaYK9. . Have a good one 👍
Some great drone work Austin, and nice editing to merge the new shots with the snowy trip. Must have also helped the legs not having to wade through all that snow this time, and of course getting the car much closer to the bothy in the first place...
Someone please tell me there's something similar in the southern US! Short hike, sturdy building, warm fire with plenty wood right outside... Big bend area maybe?
Yes, yes you are. Watching these videos about MOEL PRYSGAU BOTHY makes me want to embark on exactly the same type of adventure- but without having to go to Wales. I hope that someone knows of a similar destination over here.
Have you seen our other visit to this bothy . Just goes to show it’s not always plain sailing and just how important these shelters are sometimes . Here’s a link just in case you haven’t ua-cam.com/video/BdOAJ_KbZUo/v-deo.html 👍
What a difference from the last visit Austin. Just shows you how mother nature should never be taken lightly. Good to see Ellie hiking along in this one. And good old Marley back out and driving you crazy with his sticks....lol. Thought Lucy was a goner at 12.00. That woman of yours will be the death of me Austin 😱😁 Drone footage was top notch as always, and as you say, a great capture with the chimney puffing smoke. Another belter A&L. Always a pleasure to watch........Take care. Andy 👍👍👍
It was my turn to fall in this time , managed to save myself though and only a couple of wet gloves. You can see why we braved the spooky forest on the way out. It was great to go back and good to get the drone shots for the comparison and Marley was over the moon to be out on a proper trip again 🐕🤪. Cheers Andy . Atb . Austin and Lucy.
What a difference a few weeks makes Austin, didn't recognise the place, does look beautiful though. Good to see Marley out again and doing well, sadly i had to have my old dog put to sleep last week but it does now mean i can get out wild camping again with my other two in the coming weeks. Atb Bill.
Sorry to hear that Bill , the worst part of dog ownership. it was good to get back there and Marley was excited to be out on a proper adventure again . Look forward to the vids of your upcoming camps 👍 . Cheers . Atb. Austin and Lucy.
Lovely video, certainly different to last time. I love the ethos of bothy culture. Pass on to the next person stopping. I've never stopped in one but like the idea.
Thank you , it was good to go back again so soon and it's a cracking bothy. i got a bit of flak for not leaving wood the last time so it was good to make up for that. Even though the MBA bothy code says to leave just kindling it seems to have become the norm to leave a fires worth if it's available. They have always been tidied when we arrive so it seems everyone is making the effort and sticking to the code 👍 . Cheers . Austin and Lucy.
There aren't that many in Wales unfortunately but this one is a great little bothy. As it's a good trek in from any direction it's very quiet. Cheers . Atb. Austin and Lucy.
This was great, I do love tour videos guys. And amazing the difference a few weeks makes. That was one hell a leap there to get across the river there. Looked a wet day. Looks like you guys had a great time in the bothy. Will have to try one ourselves one day. All the best guys. Trev.
Cheers Trev, It was a wet one but the second day made up for it . You can make a gap like that if your 22 , i just dipped a foot but for some reason it wasn't on camera? You'd enjoy a trip to a bothy , just a shame there's hardly any down south . Cheers . Atb. Austin and Lucy.
Its a lovely little spot. Got to agree with another poster, absolute perfect in the snow. Drone shots are bang on too, I wish I could work mine as well..Good video !
It's cracking bothy but i must admit it's that bit more special and atmospheric in the snow . It was good to have the comparison though, you can see how deep the snow was against the bothy. Cheers . Austin and Lucy.
Yeah i was trying to get as close to the snowy flights as i could for the comparison shots. The weather is a nightmare at the moment , you can't plan anything . Cheers .
great video as per usual. good to see you all having a get together, we follow explorer buddies. The drone footage was great the road part looked brilliant what a difference without snow, it still looks beautiful. Even better to see marley with you ATB Leona and chris
Thanks guys . It's always a good laugh with Scott and Ellie, and Pete. it's the first time i've got the drone to follow the car and was really pleased with it . It was so much easier this time and Marley loved it being out again . Cheers . Atb. Austin and Lucy.
What a difference! Cant tell which landscape looks the more beautiful, however, do miss the suspense from the first video haha love the channel, looking forward to more of your adventures this year, will be undertaking a few of mine too!
We have a few videos from my friends gopro that we'll look to get onto his page and set up properly, might not be up to the production values of your videos though haha all the best for the year!
great video again. loved the drone footage, nice to see in the snow and in the clear. also 10/10 for the dive across the river... cant wait for your next video. atb kev
Haha, cheers Kev. That was Pete jumping the river , i cracked up and nearly slipped in laughing. It was good to see the comparison and made us realise how deep the snow was up against the bothy . Cheers. Austin and Lucy.
what a comparison in trips..which do you prefer???? great to see Marley out :)... cant beat a bothy trip with a roaring fire... looked like you all had a great time take care :)
Hi Julie, bar the nightmare walk out we'd go for the snow every time , it's just looked so pretty and a fires always seems nicer when there's snow outside. The upside of no snow is having Marley out again 👍🐶. Cheers . Atb. Austin and Lucy.
Hi Austin watched this awhile ago but was dealing with alot of illness , mine , family and friend. Its awkward filming when you go to the same place within a short time although it helps alot when conditions are totally different. Great vid as usual i think it'll be after April before i start heading down south ( person i look after still very ill ) theres a few people i want to see across the border. Regard to Lucy take care.
Sorry to hear that Eddie .Sounds like we're all having a shit start to 2018 . Looks like the both of us will be getting made redundant soon so things will be changing drastically work wise .We've been lucky to get the same days off together so who knows what will happen now. Just let us know nearer the time and we'll sort something out. . Lucy says hi . Cheers . Austin.
Excellent vid as always guys. I love watching Marley! I was tempted take my dog last night but it was too cold. I was watching your Crib Goch video the other day. Amazing drone footage on the ridge 👍🏼 Good work guys. ATB... Craig
Cheers Craig . Where did you go last night and did it snow ? We even had a couple of hours of snow here down south this morning which is rare . We were lucky that whole week i did Crib Goch and as you can imagine ,it really was hard not to get a good shot that day . One of the better ones . Cheers . Austin and Lucy.
2 Feet Forward I headed over to the North York Moors. Forecast in the lakes and the dales was grim. Just uploading the vid now. Had plenty snow on the ground but clear skies. Got some cracking stars. I made my wife watch your Crib Govh vid. It was awesome. I recently got a drone so I’ve told her that is the goal 😂. I was curious how you landed it up there, I must admit ..
now you've filmed the shelf with the bottle of jager you've just invited every squatter from the four corners of the earth well done lol used needle central i wouldn't want to be in there on my own at night put it that way
@@2FeetForward imagine it on your own you have a log fire going just about to get your head down for some kip and you hear help me help open the door in a female voice and you open it and there's 500 yakidar yetti skin walkers outside drooling with black eyes just standing there staring
It’s about 3 miles from here . goo.gl/maps/udAFyXJMeYiENSFC6 . If it’s been wet you’d do well to avoid the river crossings and head in down through the forest on the same route we left on 👍.
So as far as I know Bothies came about from Scottish people leaving their homes in the country to find work in Glasgow during the industrail revolution of the 1800's. Please correct me If Im wrong. Bothies are soo inclusive to Scotland and Northern England that little is know about these places outside of the UK unless your interested in such places. I've watched both videos know of this Bothy but yet you have not explained the history of the building, maybe its something you may want to add in future uploads. Thumbs up and another great video. Greetings from Adelaide, South Australia.
Thank you 👍. Yes you’re right. I should do a bit more research into these bothies. On a bothy trip a while ago there was a scrapbook detailing the sad story of the owners. I recorded the whole story but the bloody audio failed. I believe you’re right about the Scottish bothies and I have been told another reason was as industry improved access to and from the farmsteads was so much easier and quicker there was no need to live in the middle of nowhere. Whether this is accurate or not I don’t know. Cheers. Austin and Lucy.
@@2FeetForward Thanks for the reply. Yes fascinating stuff in regards to Bothies. Wish we had them here in Australia! I guess its too warm here for it. I do believe on Mt. Kosciusko(2000 m, out largest ) we have something similar to a Bothy.
Incredible video!! The use of the drone for that cinematic effect is amazing. Really takes things to another level. So the bothy is obviously an old farm house. I can see the walls of the old outbuildings and curtilage. Someone has put a nice roof on it and added windows to keep the weather out. Is it on private land? Who maintains it? What a great place to be able to spend a night. Like having your own vacation cottage!! One day I'll have to get over there for some hiking adventures!
It's a great bothy this one . It's maintained by the Mountain Bothies Association but i'm not sure who owns the forest. It was an old shepherds house originally. There are many more in Scotland and folks go on hiking holidays staying at different ones as they go and some of them up there are really in the middle of nowhere! great to get away from it all. Cheers .
The Forest is managed by on behalf of the Welsh Government by Natural Resources Wales. The bothy is getting a lot of use these days which is great. What isn't so great is that it also gets a bit too much abuse from some. If all the users followed the leave no trace principle en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Leave_No_Trace all would be well. We don't want NRW to take the easy option and pull the plug on its bothies!
It's a hybrid jacket and i don't think it's treated down but it has a DWR coating and dries in about 20 minutes in front of a fire . I had a much warmer full down jacket in my pack so wasn't really worried about getting this one wet and the manmade filled parts get the rain first . Cheers . Austin and Lucy.
2 Feet Forward I was laying in bed last night watching this at 11pm. It was fantastic. Me and the wife are going to try our first backpacking trip. We just need sleeping bags and we are all set to go, Any suggestions?
2 Feet Forward Boston Massachusetts USA. We do have alot of mountains in New Hampshire, and also in the beginning of January it was -20 degrees with the wind chill, summers are in the 80's
Thank you . It was a big difference and Marley enjoyed himself a lot more and he hasn't been properly out for a few weeks now so he loved it .Cheers .Austin and Lucy.
Hi guys, great video, I found your channel from your previous video here as I did my 1st winter wild camp in between Xmas & new year, I was searching for winter wild camping videos for tips and yours was a pleasure to watch and quite the eye opener of what can happen!😳. I really enjoyed binge watching your videos over the holidays, especially your South Downs way camps as I’m cycling/wild camping it this year, i did the pennine bridleway last year and the downs was next on my list, anyway thanks very much for the hard work you put into your great channel, I look forward to watching your 2018 videos, atb, Ian 🙌🏻🙂
Thanks Ian. very kind of you.Good to know our last trip didn't put you off then lol. I rode and camped the SDW a good few years ago over two days and i remember it was a lot harder than i thought it would be but i guess that was the extra weight . You'll breeze it having already done the Pennine Bridleway . How long did you do it over ? Cheers . Austin and Lucy.
2 Feet Forward hi guys, I really took my time on the PBW, mainly because I wanted to savour it but I did it on a rigid mtb as well, I got the train to Carlisle, cycled to Kirkby Stephen and started the PBW and cycled back to my front door in Walsall, it took me 8 days, 7 nights wild camping, pretty slow I know but I loved it!☺️, I’m not very savvy with tech so I don’t make videos, but I think I’d like to, but I use strava as a digital diary, if your interested in looking at the trip & photos I’m Ian Morton from Walsall on there and I did the trip the end of August, if you guys are on there I’d love to follow you, thanks again for your videos, they’re an inspiration, best wishes, Ian 🙂👍🏻
At well over two hundred miles and fully loaded that's not bad going . i wish i'd taken four days to do the SDW and had time to enjoy it more but it's easy to get caught in the 'get there as quick as you can trap' on a mountain bike. Hat's off for doing it on a rigid as well 👏 . Cheers . Austin.
2 Feet Forward thanks Austin, I’ve been trying to plan my SDW trip but it’s proving difficult from my location, my plan so far is a circular route from Winchester as that’s fairly easy by train for me (getting there and returning home), to Eastbourne along SDW, then up cycle route 21 to the eridge rocks, then west back to Winchester, this is where I’m struggling but it will make a roughly 200 mile round trip, route 21 to Crawley looks great, I’m not sure from Crawley to Winchester!…anyway sorry to babble this to you on your comments, 👍🏻😆, thanks again for your great content, atb, Ian ✌🏻😃
Great drone shots. Nice to seen you all and Marley too. 👍 Wondering what the foundations you can see from the drone once were? Nice walk. Cheers 🍻 Max"
Thanks Max .Marley was happy to be out again. I'm not sure about the ruins but at a guess maybe sheep folds and wood storage etc? I'm sure someone knows the history though . Cheers . Austin and Lucy.
Hi Jason The nearest post code is for Dol Goch hostel .It is - SY256NR , As you approach the hostel sign ignore it and carry straight on up the hill. Here is a Link . www.google.co.uk/maps/place/Unnamed+Road,+Tregaron+SY25+6NR/@52.2007671,-3.7585564,708m/data=!3m2!1e3!4b1!4m5!3m4!1s0x486fbb6e744fd309:0xbd3167ced1f66af0!8m2!3d52.2007671!4d-3.7563677 . Hope this is of some help . Cheers . Austin and Lucy.
Hey guys I'm planning a trip to this bothy this week :) I'm struggling to find coords of where to leave the old car and start the hike. Can you share please? :)
Yes . This is the Elan Valley in mid Wales 🏴. Bothies are usually old disused farm houses that have been adopted by the Mountain Bothy Association. They are usually in the middle of nowhere and before the advent of motor vehicles they were to far to access so the farmers lived with their herds. There is more info online at MBA . Com. Cheers. Austin and Lucy.
Hey, guys, wonderful video. I'm from the States and I have never seen a set up exactly like your Bothy's. Do you need to reserve in advance? Is their a cost? Looks like a wonderful setup and the way you help others with supplies and firewood is terrific. Also, on a less serious note, these look like wonderful places to bugout to during the zombie apocalypse.
Hi Douglas and thank you . The bothies are absolutely free to use and are used as shelters by walkers, there is no booking system and it's just luck of the draw whether it's busy or not . However , no one has the right to claim it as their own for the night and must always share with however many people arrive . You either get a lovely peaceful night of solitude or a night of great company , win win . Most are maintained by the MBA (mountain bothies association) for free and are very basic with a good roof and log burner and most have a water supply , like a stream very close by . There is a bothy 'code' to restock the fire starting wood but we had visited this place a while back and not left much so it was good to make up for that. We often joke that if there was a zombie outbreak we'd run to the hills and stay in a bothy lol. Cheers . Austin and Lucy.
they used to do a bothie crawl through the Highlands at my school the teacher was called haggis he was a maniac, he used would move all the tables to the edge of the class room and draw a chalk circle on the floor and we would play sumo wrestling lol
he would take us out to these planted pine woods and let us run off he was an actual wizzard you couldn't see him come around in front of you but he would leap out of no where
you can't do that these days at school getting lobbed out of a sumo ring by the teacher. the snowflakes would be ten folk deep at the school gates with pitch forks
Hello from the states! We love your videos. We just got a new 4K tv and your previous video was my very first 4K. I’m hooked on your channel! Glad u made it out safe last time. Great stuff and god bless. What was the temperature this trip?
Hi there and thank you very much! It wasn't cold , about 6ºc in the day and 0ºc at night but the dampness made it feel a bit colder.Cheers . Atb. Austin and Lucy.
Hi mate, I don't suppose you'd care to share the route you took to this bothy? If not then just the start point (google map link or grid ref of parking point) would be handy as I'm going to start venturing out but, not stopping over night...Yet ;-) Thanks in advance, Chris.
Hi Chris , the nearest is for Dol Goch Hostel and is SY25 6NR . As you approach and see the sign left for the hostel , ignore it and carry on up the hill to where we parked. Coordinates for the bothy are SN80648 61101. You could always park in the layby at the bottom of the hill where we were at the end of the video to save yourself the walk up .Let us know how you get on 👍.Cheers . Austin and Lucy.
Awesome, thanks for that and I certainly will let you know. Going to Lluest Cwm Bach Bothy on the 18th just as a starter and, not staying overnight but just to get the family used to it. We will enjoy Elan Valley enroute, get to the bothy - Start a fire and have some food before heading back. It's a long drive but will be worth it in prep for when we do some overnight stays soon! Thanks again and, if I ever get any good at this video editing lark I'll stick something up and give you a shout - Be gentle haha.
Hi Aust. My son and a couple of his mates have been totally inspired by your uploads and want to check out Snowdonia in June for the 1st time. They are all uni mates and have never done Wild Camping or Snowdonia before. They will camp for 5 nights, moving from one location to another. Can you recommend any routes that they could follow or a link to a website for these young novices? Cheers bud and atb.
Hi John . It depends how they're going to do it really. Are they going to wildcamp out the whole time or are they going to return to the car and head to a new location? If it's the first then i think a hike from Snowdon side and over to the Glyders , down the Devils kitchen and into the Ogwen Vally . Then up the other side up Pen Yr Ole Wen and onto the Carneddau range would be superb . You can plan the whole route on an OS OL17 . If it's the second option then i'd be tempted to head for mountains with shelters just in case the weathers bad. Foel Grach is a good one to do after bagging Carnnedd Llewelyn. further south we can highly recommend Cadair Idris(we took a great route up this one.If it's adventure they're after then how about Tryfan or Crib Goch? Sorry we can't be more specific but if you need any more ideas don't hesitate to ask . Cheers . Austin and Lucy.
Unfortunately not , i left it on so it followed us back down the M4 to Hampshire! Lucy has loaded it up to Viewranger though . If you have it it's under Moel Prys .It's roughly waypointed but you can't go wrong anyway. Cheers . Austin and Lucy. P.s If you need coordinates / postcodes let us know.
2 Feet Forward, thanks for the reply, any info you have would be so helpful. I’m planning a trip in the summer so I’ve plenty of time to prepare my route.
Hi, the postcode for parking where we do in this video is SY25 6NR and is for Dol Goch hostel . If you take this route then ignore the turning for the hostel on the left and carry on up the hill to the parking on the left.Or you can park in the small lay by before the bridge . If you fancy a longer and tougher walk in and want to do a bit of navigation then you could set off from where we did in the snowy trip , Claerwen Dam . The postcode is LD6 5HF but be prepared for a bumpy walk and no distinguishable paths . Cheers and have a great trip. Atb. Austin.
Yes! i tried the honey whiskey , it was good . We read your diary entry as well , always odd when you already know the story if you know what i mean . Even walking the short way in and out like we did is no easy task . I really don't think there is an easy way to this bothy at all . Cheers . Austin and Lucy.
2 Feet Forward Great. I thought someone may have been in and just necked the whole bottle as they were passing on a quad or something. That's what makes that place special. It's a pain to get to. Puts random passers by off. Nice to see marley out with you again.
There is no hard and fast rule but generally it's one to two days . Anything longer and your meant to ask the landowners permission but i have known people to stay up to four days . Cheers . Austin and Lucy.
nice job on the pronunciation! I was on stand by, but no need 😁 edit: ah, i spoke too soon! it's not so much 'mole' prysgau but 'moelle', said quickly it would sometimes sound like 'moil'.
So it did look nicer until scum took tables and break plastic chairs, burnt a bunch of things and ruined it, now its horrible :( still okay place to stay, but takes a few to ruin it for everyone! barely any chairs now and just a mess
I'm sitting here at my computer in my little bungalow in the Midlands, all warm and toasty, something tasty cooking in my kitchen oven, a glass of red wine by my side, and thinking you must be absolutely bonkers, but enjoying every moment. Thanks.
Haha , we get told that quite a lot lol. Thank you and glad you enjoyed watching 👍. Cheers . Austin and Lucy.
Hi Austin Lucy and Marley I got back from a weeks trucking on Friday and I've not stopped watching your vids yet (no telly) they are fab and I might have graced the bald explorer with the same praise but your vids are like produced tv shows your filming and editing is top notch.
It's sad seeing Marley in these old videos. What a lovely happy dog. You should be proud of him.
Thank you . I always said that he made me proud .
Another brilliant video, and it was great to see Marley out too. Big shout out to Explorer Buddies & Pete also. All the best guys, Dave & Tamsin.
Thanks . He gets them all soaking in the end so we need a dry extra for the evenings. He's got more coats than us! Cheers. Austin and Lucy.
It must be nice to be able this time to enjoy it without the worry of trying to get out the next day. Looks so different than before.
Yes , it was great to see it in different clothes. The atmosphere of the whole place was completely different as well. Cheers.
Cheers Pete . We'll have to do it again soon 👍
The opening shots switching between the snow and this video was amazing , great to get out with you both again and the bothy was so cool. Roll on more adventures in 2018 :-)
It is a cool bothy but bloody hard to get to whichever way you choose! Keeps it quiet though i guess . Best get planning the next one 👍
i know Im randomly asking but does anybody know of a trick to get back into an Instagram account??
I was dumb lost the login password. I would appreciate any assistance you can give me
@Louie Gianni Instablaster :)
@Dakari Luca Thanks so much for your reply. I got to the site on google and im trying it out atm.
Looks like it's gonna take quite some time so I will get back to you later when my account password hopefully is recovered.
@Dakari Luca It did the trick and I finally got access to my account again. I'm so happy!
Thanks so much you saved my ass !
had the same problem crossing wide streams in that part of Wales and the peak District. i always carry a pair of heavy duty bin bags, put one on each leg and hold them both up over the knee with one hand. hold walking pole in other hand and slowly Wade across. use a stone or pole inside bags as weight and throw back to my wife to use. they will get tiny holes in them but only a very small amount of water will get in and they should do a few crossings. crude method but it works very well.
funny you should say that Rob .
Love these videos, keep returning to them regularly, have you any plans to do more? Thanks for sharing
Thank you , that's great to hear . Where abouts in Israel are you as i spent sometime there many years ago in the Negev .Cheers . Austin .
Hi guys enjoyed the return not as nail biting as your last visit lol that was a riveting watch Love the location of the bothy it looks beautiful thanks for taking us along till next time atvb to you both chris
Cheers Chris , yes , a bit mellower all round this one . Cheers . Atb . Austin and Lucy.
Amazing how snow changes thinks. Drone footage really gives a different view on the surroundings.
Yes , it really looked like a different place . Much easier as well 👍. Cheers . Austin and Lucy.
What a contrast.. still a beautiful place to escape to.. you can't beat a good night in a bothy.. TFS.. ATB.. R&D :):)
Cheers guys . It was good to see it in a different light. Lucy wants to visit every bothy in Wales now lol . Atb . A+L.
what a contrast from when you were there in the deep snow, great drone footage to, Look forward to seeing moor adventures, ATB, Les.
It wasn't quite as pretty but it was a heck of a lot easier to walk lol. Cheers . Austin and Lucy.
Hi guys loved the video, would you be able to tell me where you parked up before walking to the bothy? ATB Mark
I love the way Marley stares at the camera around 7min 40 sec's!! N'other great film. Can't wait to see more adventures 👍
You can read his mind 'throw the stick throw the stick!' lol. Thanks for watching . Cheers . Austin and Lucy.
Wow huge contrast to your last visit. Beautiful scenery. Your video skill and drone skills are the best. Xx
Thank you very much . It was good to visit again. Cheers . Austin and Lucy.
Some great drone work Austin, and nice editing to merge the new shots with the snowy trip.
Must have also helped the legs not having to wade through all that snow this time, and of course getting the car much closer to the bothy in the first place...
Thank you , it was great to have the comparison and so much easier than last time . The drive out wasn't as much fun though! Cheers . Austin and Lucy.
I'm amazed you went back so soon after the snow disaster there! Great video.
Thanks , it was good to go back 👍
Someone please tell me there's something similar in the southern US! Short hike, sturdy building, warm fire with plenty wood right outside... Big bend area maybe?
We’re lucky to have these over here 👍
Yes, yes you are.
Absolutely beautiful!
Thank you , It's a stunning place .Cheers . Austin and Lucy
What a difference from the last visit Austin. Just shows you how mother nature should never be taken lightly. Good to see Ellie hiking along in this one. And good old Marley back out and driving you crazy with his sticks....lol. Thought Lucy was a goner at 12.00. That woman of yours will be the death of me Austin 😱😁
Drone footage was top notch as always, and as you say, a great capture with the chimney puffing smoke.
What a stunningly beautiful video. Looks like you do some amazing drone work. Really enjoyed this. Subscribed.
Thank you very much 👍. Cheers .Austin and Lucy.
The intro at the start was brilliant-even better than the first video
Thank you 👍
What a difference a few weeks makes Austin, didn't recognise the place, does look beautiful though.
I almost want to remember it as that idealic snow paradise/deathly hallow you captured the first time
Yes it was very beautiful in the snow but nice to see it in the sunshine as well . Atb. Austin and Lucy.
Not as eventful as you last visit but I'm sure you are happy about that! Thank you for sharing.
Haha, yes it was a nice mellow trip this one and much easier to walk. Cheers . Atb. Austin and Lucy.
I've never been to a Welsh bothy. Looks really nice.
Thanks Austin. Really enjoyed this one and loved the music as well. Keep them coming mate:)
Cheers Mark . We're off again at the weekend but don't know where yet . Could be one of Lucys magical mystery trips 😧 . Cheers , Austin and Lucy.
I'll definitely look out for that one. Cheers mate.
Such a great video! Photography so nice, thank you for sharing this great trip!
Thank you 👍. Cheers . Austin and Lucy.
Looks like you had a good session with the Mavic on this one. The weather has been changeable to say the least pal.
Brilliant. I love your choice of music to go with this aswell. Great video. Rob.
Thanks Rob . Love when someone comments about the music! This track is so good i had to use it twice 👍 . Cheers . Austin and Lucy.
What a difference! Cant tell which landscape looks the more beautiful, however, do miss the suspense from the first video haha love the channel, looking forward to more of your adventures this year, will be undertaking a few of mine too!
Thank you very much 👍. All the best with your future adventures! Will you be filming them? Cheers. Austin and Lucy.
We have a few videos from my friends gopro that we'll look to get onto his page and set up properly, might not be up to the production values of your videos though haha all the best for the year!
Cool. Let us know when you put them up👍
great video again. loved the drone footage, nice to see in the snow and in the clear. also 10/10 for the dive across the river... cant wait for your next video. atb kev
Haha, cheers Kev. That was Pete jumping the river , i cracked up and nearly slipped in laughing. It was good to see the comparison and made us realise how deep the snow was up against the bothy . Cheers. Austin and Lucy.
What a great adventure channel! Thanks for taking us along :) - Shane
Thanks Shane , very kind of you 👍. Cheers. Austin and Lucy.
nice one, those river crossings getting in looked quite precarious!
They were hard work but good fun all the same . Cheers . Austin and Lucy.
Really enjoyed the video and those river crossings. Thanks for sharing. :-)
Cheers , those crossings are all part of the legal 4x4 track .Wouldn't mind having a go at that . Atb. Austin and Lucy.
Thanks for sharing 👍
Cheers 👍
beautiful trek you went on there!
Thank you , and keep up the great work ⛺️👍 . Cheers .
Amazing drone footage on the ridge 👍🏼
Good work guys. ATB...
I was curious how you landed it up there, I must admit ..
now you've filmed the shelf with the bottle of jager you've just invited every squatter from the four corners of the earth well done lol used needle central i wouldn't want to be in there on my own at night put it that way
unless i had a gatlin GET ORF MY LAND !!!
😂
@@2FeetForward imagine it on your own you have a log fire going just about to get your head down for some kip and you hear help me help open the door in a female voice and you open it and there's 500 yakidar yetti skin walkers outside drooling with black eyes just standing there staring
don't be a white knight on your own there
wow i've just created a new myth conspiracy kool the yakidar yeti
Another superb video.. Thank you :)
Thanks John 👍 Atb . Austin and Lucy.
This looks so different from last time and getting stuck in the snow nice one guys we r going up snowden next week
It was good to see it in the sunshine. Have a good one on Snowdon . Which way are you going up?
2 Feet Forward pyg / miners we think ice axe and crampons ready lol
We love the vids from the alps looks Breath taking
Yep , better to have them and not need them etc.
Cheers it was the best trip yet 👍
How far is the walk in please and best place to walk from
It’s about 3 miles from here . goo.gl/maps/udAFyXJMeYiENSFC6 .
Love this place.. .. fantastic drone footage as usual. Nice one. Lee (Burton Outdoors)
Cheers Lee , it's a really cool little bothy 👍 . Atb. Austin and Lucy.
Is the North Ridge jacket at 3:20 down? If so, is it treated down since you are wearing it in the rain?
It's a hybrid jacket and i don't think it's treated down but it has a DWR coating and dries in about 20 minutes in front of a fire . I had a much warmer full down jacket in my pack so wasn't really worried about getting this one wet and the manmade filled parts get the rain first . Cheers . Austin and Lucy.
Wow what a difference from snow to no snow
It was great to see the comparison and much easier to walk in! Cheers .Austin and Lucy.
2 Feet Forward I was laying in bed last night watching this at 11pm. It was fantastic. Me and the wife are going to try our first backpacking trip. We just need sleeping bags and we are all set to go, Any suggestions?
Oh by the way my wife said watching you caught in the snow storm was very stressful lol
Where are you based?
2 Feet Forward Boston Massachusetts USA. We do have alot of mountains in New Hampshire, and also in the beginning of January it was -20 degrees with the wind chill, summers are in the 80's
Great camera work guys. Bit of a change on that walk eh ! And much better for Marley bless him. Love you videos 👍👍
Thank you . It was a big difference and Marley enjoyed himself a lot more and he hasn't been properly out for a few weeks now so he loved it .Cheers .Austin and Lucy.
great job on video
Thank you Rob 👍ATb. Austin and Lucy.
Great video
Thank you 👍 Atb . Austin and Lucy.
Thanks. 👍
can you tell me the GR or location for the layby that you started out from please?
Hi Jason The nearest post code is for Dol Goch hostel .It is - SY256NR , As you approach the hostel sign ignore it and carry straight on up the hill. Here is a Link .

2 Feet Forward top man, thanks
nice music from Ghana!
It's a great track isn't it ! I'd love to know what the lyrics are. Cheers . Austin and Lucy.

Hey guys
I'm planning a trip to this bothy this week :)
I'm struggling to find coords of where to leave the old car and start the hike. Can you share please? :)
Here's a link to where we parked . goo.gl/maps/1KNNs9hz7VMJwaYK9 Have a great trip!
Another great one mate keep it up girl from Basingstoke
Cheers Darren 👍 Atb , Austin and Lucy.
I assume you're in Wales, right? Also does "bothy" mean a shelter?
Cheers . Austin and Lucy.
they used to do a bothie crawl through the Highlands at my school the teacher was called haggis he was a maniac, he used would move all the tables to the edge of the class room and draw a chalk circle on the floor and we would play sumo wrestling lol
he would take us out to these planted pine woods and let us run off he was an actual wizzard you couldn't see him come around in front of you but he would leap out of no where
we'd be like how the hell does he do that ? that's what turned me into learning shamen
you can't do that these days at school getting lobbed out of a sumo ring by the teacher. the snowflakes would be ten folk deep at the school gates with pitch forks
they wouldn't let me on the bothie crawl they said i could but then said no for some reason oh well their loss
these days you'd have full riot squad with dogs helicopters front page of the independent lol
Hi Chris , we’re away at the moment but as soon as we’re home we’ll sort out the coordinates and post code for you 👍 Cheers. Austin and Lucy
2 Feet Forward legend, cheers guys it much appreciated 👍
Brilliant info. Thanks a million for taking the time to reply in so much detail. ATB
What drone do you use ? Great video
Thanks . It's a Dji Mavic pro but i'm very interested in the new Mavic Air , it looks amazing! Cheers . Austin .
Hi there, have you uploaded your GPS route for this walk. if so where can i find it ? thanks.
Atb. Austin.
Thanks for the revisit dude/ess
Atb Davie
Cheers Davie 👍 Atb . Austin and Lucy.
Did you have any of the whiskey or jagermeister I left? 😀
Yes! i tried the honey whiskey , it was good .
Great videos, subbed!
Thank you 👍 ATb . Austin and Lucy.
Where abouts did you leave your car?
Newcomer to the videos btw and I'm enjoying your adventures! And I was very sorry to hear about Marley
Thank you . Here’s a link 👍. goo.gl/maps/udAFyXJMeYiENSFC6
how long are you allowed to stay in a particular Bothy?
There is no hard and fast rule but generally it's one to two days . Anything longer and your meant to ask the landowners permission but i have known people to stay up to four days . Cheers . Austin and Lucy.
thanks for your quick reply .. great video - I like the one without the snow better ( California desert guy ), but both were beautifully shot
California !? Now your just rubbing it in lol. Cheers .
nice job on the pronunciation! I was on stand by, but no need 😁
edit: ah, i spoke too soon! it's not so much 'mole' prysgau but 'moelle', said quickly it would sometimes sound like 'moil'.
Damn! I thought i had it . You'll have to start charging lol. Cheers . Austin and Lucy.
You might want to improve your pronunciation of Bothy, there is no v in Bothy.
Drew Mccutcheon no but there is an F in f.......
Has Ellie actually got a kitchen sink in her pack or does it just look as if she has? Some people carry less than that for a week!
Lol, I think she carried all the insulation as all their camera stuff weighs a ton.Cheers . Austin
Fair point, carrying cameras and a drone can't be easy alongside all your camping stuff. Hats off to you all, nice video by the way, Thanks.
Best music ever 👏❤️
Thank you 🙏
So it did look nicer until scum took tables and break plastic chairs, burnt a bunch of things and ruined it, now its horrible :( still okay place to stay, but takes a few to ruin it for everyone! barely any chairs now and just a mess
Nooo ! A#seholes!
