- In the first edition of CVEF's new series "Speaking of Fun" Dr. Colleen Darnell shares her knowledge and passion for vintage fashion. She discusses all types of clothing dating back to the 1870s.
When the world opens up again, you can come to Napier in NZ where we have a huge Art Deco weekend. The town of Napier was destroyed by an earthquake and it was rebuilt just when Art Deco design was the 'modern look'. The Summer Art Deco festival is full of people in sleeveless dropped waist dresses and the Winter one is dedecked with furs and little felt cloche hats. We all attend various events and revel in this wonderful little town with it's glorious buildings.

Hi Dr. Colleen Darnell, My mother, and father got married in 1948. My mother was wearing a dress cut all on the bias with a very long train of about 12 feet behind her, but the dress clings to her very tiny frame, it is stunning to see, my mother was 5'2" tall and wore size 0 or double 00. My mother never gains weight, of course, exception made with her two pregnancies. Until her death, she remains wearing 0 or double 00 dresses. What I love about those dresses cut into bias (her was white silk satin) is the way it does cling to the body making it stand out so beautifully on a women's body. By the way, I love how you and your husband are both true experts archeologists into our past history.

I believe that the Darnell's, especially Colleen, are among the best of world archeologists at reading hieroglyphs. I note their embrace with the 1920s, illustrated in the choice of attire and how this is so in conflict with the search for truth, given that most of the wrong, false, and inaccurate information come from this time, a time that they so vigorously embrace. Historical facts that to this day the discipline is apposed to correcting or even considering!
But having said this, I find their attire indicative of a narcissist psyche and can imagine the time they spend in front of the mirror, primping for their grand entrance.
These are the text book cardinal sign and symptoms of a Narcissist. What are your assessment and observation ?
