I'm considering a homemade rack for my roof that does NOT have channels or existing mounting holes. Did you use the spacers just to clear the channel grooves? On MY roof (no channels), would placing the angle iron directly on the roof give more surface area (contact) to distribute the load better? Of course, I'd have nuts beneath the roof. I appreciate your opinion. This is just a brainstorm at this point; so, no dreams dashed if you think it's a bad idea. ;-) Thanks!

Correct on the spacers, just used to clear the channel grooves. I think placing the angle iron directly on the roof would be a bad idea, any rubbing/moving will scratch and rust quickly. Could potentially make a rubber/silicone washer to keep metal off metal but I still wouldn't really recommend it.

Great video! Do you have any idea what the part number is for the Prinsu mounting hardware kit? How did you determine the height/angle to drill and mount the angle iron considering the slope of the roof to keep the rack level back to front? I have an access cab so this is probably going to be an adventure of also drilling holes and putting in rivet nuts in the right spots for me.

I don't know the part number, I just called and asked for the mounting hardware and they were more than willing to send it out.
For determining the height/angle, I mounted the angle iron to the roof first. Then put my rack in place and clamped at the height I wanted and marked my holes. I used some wood across the roof to keep the height consistent.

When you mounted your topper rack, did you mount directly to topper or did you install rails ??

The topper had rails installed by the previous owner. I just mounted to the topper rails.
