    Great project, indeed the veneer is expensive but its stability pays off. So cool to see a pro like you to use my comment to use the domino + washer as slots. Other idea, on every youtube film I see panels and tabletops being glued up the same way: applying glue on each board individually. I learned from my dad that it's easier to stack all the boards and clamp them together. That way you can apply glue on one single surface. There is however the disadvantage of manipulating a whole stack of boards which can be too heavy. But you will win time and reduce stress.

      @KingPostTimberWorks  6 років тому

      +Bart Loncke always learning. I do use that glue up trick sometimes . Works best when all the timber is the same width. So not always possible

    The author does like to from scratch, ua-cam.com/users/postUgkxbnOKZBE4evMO5V2vroHeCjq6d_MV6wJO shaping and trimming wood from large blocks into fine finished products. As another reviewer mentioned, most projects require a lot of high-dollar equipment that most of us don’t have the room or budget for. But, knowing how to do these things, even if we won’t be able to practise the full stack project, is still great.

    Another good option for gluing the veneer to the front, put 2 coats of wood glue (PVA) on both the veneer and the substrate, let them dry, then use a iron to heat up the glue, & the 2 surfaces will bond together. Works great!

    • @KingPostTimberWorks
      @KingPostTimberWorks  6 років тому +6

      +Crafted Workshop hey man, umm 2 reasons I guess 1 I don't think regular ply would have bent even down to 4mm my test piece was cracking. 2. I needed to veneer over the corner to make it appear like a mitre.

    • @craftedworkshop
      @craftedworkshop 6 років тому +1

      Makes sense, I guess I meant for the regular flat pieces, just to save some time. Turned out awesome!

    • @KingPostTimberWorks
      @KingPostTimberWorks  6 років тому +4

      +Crafted Workshop oh right well I had to buy the veneer which is outrageous price so used my off cuts etc for the flats. The veneer is the same price as veneerd ply! Plus with my press these kind of flat panel glue- ups are super easy.

      @socrateresorts1963 6 років тому

      i think the water is for the venner so it doesn't suck too much glue.Might alter with the finish.
      Also, for a piece that big, it is more time consuming than with the press in my opinion.

    Does this veneer with the fabric backing have to be applied perpendicular to the grain like traditional veneers? Door if this has already been answered. I was being lazy and didnt want to dig through a few hundred posts.

    • @KingPostTimberWorks

      It doesn't matter on plywood as it doesn't move. I would still run it with the grain on solid timber

    • @KingPostTimberWorks
      @KingPostTimberWorks  6 років тому +1

      yea it would of , pva gives a much better bond as contact glue can let go sometimes. in saying that , in hind sight i should have used it on the curve!

    • @malcolmmacpherson1307
      @malcolmmacpherson1307 6 років тому

      I'd have gone with PVA. In my experience large surfaces and contact adhesive can be risky - if the veneer starts to 'bubble' it's really hard to rescue the job

    • @DRMadeIt
      @DRMadeIt 6 років тому

      Custom cabinet making for 13 years. Most of my custom pieces are curved. I’ve never had a problem or a call back because the contact adhesive failed. Both veneer and laminate.
      Just need a good roller and occasionally you’ll have to inject some glue
