I'm exploring whether Adobe's new tool is the future of music production or just a fleeting gimmick worthy of creating elevator music. To be fair, music is mostly templated. I've not heard anything 'new' for many years (remember the 80s?). Also, there are ways to write music that are well established. If AI Music creation works in the same way as AI Image creation, the AI doesn't know what it's creating, it has no notion of what a violin looks like or sounds like, it references a model built with pre-existing material. Therefore, it is logical to assume that it will create material that is based on what already exists. AI won't be able to innovate, at least until AGI comes about. I do use AI Image generators to trigger ideas, I hope it would be the same with music. One thing is for sure, AI isn't going to go away and I am fascinated by it and it's potential to augment human skills.

      Thank you for your thoughtful comment. It's true that AI can only generate new content within the parameters of its training data. Will be interesting to see the future.

      If you can actually edit it though, then it doesn't matter. It would only be pulling from what's already been made for the original generative prompt. Once you start having it target specific areas and modifying it to your liking, it's back to being just a tool for creation.

    I'm excited about experimenting with different tracks as a starting point I can then tweak to suit my needs for podcasts. Like you, Mike, I'm more excited about the future automation of repetitive tasks like fading clips and clipping filler words.

    I think it’s important to remember the AI anything is simply a tool.
    And like any tool, the results are based on the skills of the user.
    For example, I can have $5000 worth of cookware, but if I only know how to make a toasted cheese and open a can of soup, are the quality of meals I make the same as a professional chef? Of course not.
    I think this will help DIY musicians who want to do things they wouldn’t normally have access to, which I think only adds to the creativity.
    Is there a consequence that some people will forgo hiring someone and choose an ai preset output? yes.
    There are pros and cons to both. I think as a professional, all you can do is continue to work on your craft and show your value in the quality that you produce, and your ability to understand human nuance and customize edits.
    Always remember, AI is nothing without human originality and creativity.

      I will 100% of agree with this. It's just a tool. I do care about people's rights, especially artists when it comes to what the people put into their AI generative engine in the ethics of that. But if a company like Adobe are just using all the stuff that they have access to to make these things. Then it's just a tool, and honestly, people who do not hop on this bus, especially artists, are going to have trouble when everybody realized this fact and everybody's doing it. That's just my take on all this AI stuff. If it uses other people's stuff, the company needs to compensate their creators. If it's just you stuff they already own, then it's okay. Now this is not a cut and dry thought process because some people have complained that there's not a opt-out rule or an opt-out process for artists in the Adobe stock that maybe don't want to add their stuff to the AI engine. That's my main concern with all this.

    • @shawnaleady
      @shawnaleady 2 місяці тому

      @@HORRORBOISHA you raise very important points about artist being able to opt out of having AI use their works.
      I agree with you 100%.
      I also think platforms that are creating AI need to consider compensating those who are contributing to their data models.
      I don’t think we’re there quite yet. This is all very new. The legal and ethical concerns are very real.

    Personally I think it will raise the bar of possibilities for creators before taking opportunities away. Recently I've found myself able to sing backing vocals in a certain style and then almost seemlessly convert that recording using models trained on that genre of vocal. Something impossible without being resung before. I think these new possibilities will grow, we will see more and more tools to process recorded material, like transforming rough low quality recordings into HD by using models trained to emulate certain sounds, be that studio spaces, equiptment, mics, FX chains..etc. All these tools will make music production more fun and intuitive, and when added to the other A.I developments, great producers/writers, will become greater content creators.. able to pull the music, visuals and story telling to a new level, without having the overhead costs that used to limit a lot of potential artist from realising their complete vision. A.I that has the capabilities to create a music video, with seemless music, lyrics and video that tell a cohesive story, is miles off IMO.. and thats where creatives will go first..

    I have to wonder what the US copyright office is going to say as far as being able to copyright any music created with an AI generator. I have not checked recently but when it came to using AI to create photos and cartoons and other art, the US copyright office was refusing to copyright anything that was not human generated.

    • @MikeRussell
      @MikeRussell  2 місяці тому +1

      It's definitely an interesting question - copyright laws will definitely need to evolve as AI technology in music creation becomes more prevalent.

    So what do you think? Something that will change music creation forever or a fancy background music generator for podcasters and UA-camrs?

    I think it might be an interesting use case for scoring films / videos. It could serve as an idea generator. Just for kicks, I would have fun seeing what it could come up when spanning genres and time periods. The weirder the better. Baroque country. Celtic + Cumbia, etc.

    • @MikeRussell

      That's an exciting perspective! Using AI music generators can indeed open up new possibilities for film and video scoring by providing unique ideas that may not have been considered otherwise.

    I don't know about the overall impact, but this is an AI tool that I can't wait to get my hands on. Give me ten minutes of chill, five minutes of suspenseful, 2 minutes battle, 3 minutes chill, five minutes epic... I could build my own soundtrack for a video. As long as I have something to plug it into first, to say, hey, this part sounds too much like this other guy's song... ok, rebuild that part... etc.

    I think it is a great step forward for people who just want background music for UA-cam and other platforms. I know it might present a threat to those who try to make a living creating music, but they are just going to have to be more creative and more talented. Same is true for photography - you just have to be better than the alternatives.

    I'd have to see what it'd be like, but it seems like it would be really good for low-budget film projects. If it is easy and intuitive, but also produces good material, I can see it catching on.

    I would love if they brought great Whisper large v3 and better transcripts to Audition AND, AI that can help me make my podcast sound better right inside Audition. Being able to generate some nice looping background tracks and some sound effects would be neat, but those others things I mentioned is more of a priority for me.
