You could also just take a second plastic cup and put it upside down on top of the other one, and just secure it with some tape. You can make a tiny humidity dome that way, so you don't have to take up the entire box for 2 corms 🤷🏼♀️🌱
I have a prop box with perlite and cut up live spaghnum on top. The lid broke in one corner so there's a pretty large crack. That has been such a blessing! Everything roots sooo fast and I barely have to water it ever. The moss is established and growing and that makes it so i never have a problem with fungus or mold.
@@petevsplants7516 yeah, i would assume so! I was a little tired when writing my comment 😅 i'm happy i found your channel, you're like the only plant youtuber i'm excited to watch!
That's a bloody cool tetrasperma! Very interesting! Oh that's not 'prop lifting' that's a rescue!! Poor plants, I reckon if they're being abused definitely go forth and help! Seriously, plants are living things and I hate seeing them suffering from neglect - we all make mistakes and lose some but that thoughtless treating of them as inanimate decoration irks the hell out of me. And the pothos thing - I knew there was messiness around that term but now will check it out properly, ta!
Hehe yeah I think you're right. Looks like you're in Australia too. One weird one I've noticed everywhere is Rhaphidophora decursiva being labelled in correctly as all manner of thing. I've seen it as Epipremnum auream, E. pinnatum, and I think even a Philodendron once. And this is by the growers on the tags for the plants. In fact, I think I've only found it labelled correctly ONCE... I don't get it.
I was actually surprised you didn't use a stubby holder as your 'cachepot', I don't know why but you mentioned something about them recently and that's where my brain went. The Pothos thing always bothered me too, thanks for calling that out. Science communication is so important and I love your style.
🐸🧦 When is a Pothos not a Pothos? THE ANSWER WILL🙀 SHOCK 🙀YOU!!! Commendable efforts, taking care of the neglected airbnb plants.👏👏 I also use the cup-in-cup+ LECA for one of my Syngonium, but I put some holes in the inner cup, so I can flush it out.
Hi Pete. I use nutrient solution in my water props, so far not had any problems 🤞 And yes deffo water the plants, and take a small payment of cuttings, after all they were gonna be put in the bin anyway
Awesome video as always Pete! I still have a few prop boxes going but I'm inlove with my seahawk cloning station, works even better with a bit of foliole oleisea biostimulant 👌 I couldn't find the video were you got a plant from Bonza botanicals but I want to thank you for getting me on to them! Just got a monstera epipremnoides esqueleto for $80!!!! So thank you Pete, without you I'd have to sell a limb to get this plant.
Oh nice! I'll have to check that out :D And yay! Glad you scored an M. esqueleto! Great work :D Send me pics on instagram when you've got it growing hehe I'd love to see it!
I think you were justified in the "theft" of propagations at the air b'n'b, as they would have died anyway, as you said. And the plants were dying, so you were helping them! Totally justified, I say!
The hormone thing you mentioned, apparently the nutirents and hormones "travels" through the plant according to the moon phases, therefore a thing called "Biodinamic Calendar" is used by many farmers to know when best time to cut, harvest, prune, sow etc... depending where the nutrients and hormones of the plants are.
catfishing with plants is the worst ordered a variegated hoya carnosa and what came was a non variegated hoya carnosa but it had 2 small spots on 1 leaf (out of around 20 leaves) .. i msg them and the seller tried to convince me it will change color with time 🙃as a little bonus it came with mealy bugs
Prop lifting 🤔, more like plant RESCUE!!! They are living organisms that should be looked out for. I think anyone who really loves plants would have done the same.
Yeah, it confused the shit out of me when I first got into plants because I looked up all the genera of aroids to get familiar with them and then started seeing everyone calling Scindapsus, Epipremnum, Philodendron, and even some Monstera 'pothos' and was like "WHY!?".
Oh my gods I LOVE your Pothos rant! That irks me so much as well!! Absolutely hate it! It's like saying look at my beautiful Syngonium Deliciosa, or Hoya Tortum or something equally stupid. Super annoying, and so prevalent still!
Bahahaha exactly lol I need to look deeper into where it came from because it seems weird too that the genus name of an obscure plant no one seems to own or stock in stores is the one everyone uses. Why not "monstera" everything.
@@petevsplants7516 I saw this vid (ua-cam.com/video/xP3wzkDhVlI/v-deo.html ) which was a nice intro to the whole debacle. Though, considering that the last Epipremnun flowered in the 60's, that's still 60 years where it's been for a documented fact that they are two different generas, and technically even longer - so I still don't quite get why this still continues - the curse of the "common" name, I suppose.
Hi Pete, I don't know if I am in a minority here but I really don't feel the need for background music. I liked your videos when it was just you, talking about all the interesting things you talk about.
Hi Pete thanks great entertaining Visio as always loved seeing your daughter in another vid be great for her to join us again she's wonderful 💙
Hehe thanks mate :)

The cuttings were payment for the work you did to save the plants. I have done the same thing..... keep the plants alive
Hehe glad it's not just me then :P

I am going to need a video just a little longer next time. Lol. I was potting my cuttings too. Love this
Hehe cheers, Susie! I think the next one is over an hour long :P enjoy!

Okay, okay, I have forgiven you for the pepsi travesty, being that you watered the airb&b plants. You are my hero again, lmao
Hahahaha!
Been watching a month or two. Lovin it. Great stuff. Sending good vibes from austin Texas! Let’s trade plants sometime!
Oh cheers, Evan! I really appreciate that, mate! All the best!

You can use an old sock around the glass to stop algae
Good idea!

Wow, hadn't heard of that before. I'll have to look into it. Cheers, Marcus!
I wouldn't call that prop lifting at all. You earned them by caring for the plants and like you said they would have just been thrown out otherwise.
Hehe phewww :P

I’ve ranted on the Pothos Scindapsus topic before but I give up. Scindapsus will forever be a Pothos to most people. 😡

I am glad someone else is commenting on this. I find it really distracting as well. I am glad those clips are gone though.
I third the no music please!
Love your vids Pete
Haha okay, no worries guys :P I've tried to make it softer but will remove it in the future.
