    The Bishops Caps are gorgeous especially the one with variegation.
    Check out drywall wire hooks. They are virtually invisible and the hole in the wall is about a millimeter.
    The hooks would accommodate stems nicely.

    The euphorbia cylindrifloria is amazing! Bunnings is so random sometimes. We recently found a melocactus azures there all on its lonesome and picked it up before anyone else did.

I love the Euphorbia genus, literally just for the diverstity of them. What a great haul, and I sure do learn cool stuff watching your channel. Love it.

    I always buy the weird looking plants. Same reason, l want to see what they're going to do.
    Those sticky hooks : you don't have to push them down real hard for lighter things or if you're not 100% on where they're going yet. If the vine doesn't fit in those little gaps they've got and you don't have string coloured to match your wall, cut a rubber band up, (clearish ones, if you have a few) and tie the vines up loosely with them.
    It's worked for me in the past and the plants still got room to move around and grow.
    Hope this all makes sense. I'm a bit wiped out.
    Stay safe and much love to you and your family. Keep up the good work ! 👍🇦🇺

    Your Echinopsis peruviana is very interesting! I had a little one and it grew quite fast and tall but never crested. I had to get it a good home because we had a cat that became obsessed with it and I couldn't keep him from messing with it. I later learned that this cacti actually has mescaline properties and I'm wondering if my cat was getting high from it, lol! Nice haul and laughed at all the funny bits😄

    • @petevsplants7516
      @petevsplants7516  Рік тому +1

    There are also euphorbia as hardy garden plants that arent succulent at all and an annual that grows like a weed in my garden but also scrubs like the poinsettia. They all have white milky sap if you cut them and similar flowers with a weird structure.

    Think with the sticky things for the wall if you use a hair dryer on them if they are well stuck on, it should help unstick them. Don’t quote me on that just a suggestion personally not tried so don’t actually know 😜. 🌱💚

    Just a word of caution on the donkey tail succulent.....they can be buggers when they get longer. If you just bump them the little "beads" fall off and leave the stem bare
    On the up side....you can technically propagate new plants from each one.

It was cool to see what's out there, and I'm a sucker for genetics. That is a really cool example of convergence. Also, I wanna say the added bits of editing that it seems you've added are really nice!

    Got a tip. I did the same thing with the porch lights. Go to a hardware and get a dimmer switch, it’ll install between the outlet and light cord. It’s way easier than plugging unplugging the power cord and you can mood light your cacti

    My lady and I had a good laugh about the “floor towel”. We have similar conversations about ‘why do you do that’ about random stuff.
    Silly cactus question. Do the round cacti stay round and grow like a big ball, or do they turn into columns?

    • @petevsplants7516
      @petevsplants7516  Рік тому +1

      Haha yeah, it's funny how those convos go with your better halves. I have them so often with Kel because she's Brazilian and will do, eat, or say the most random shit (from my point of view) and it'll turn out to be something that's really common back home for her haha.
      Re: cacti and growth, it depends. Typically, columnar cacti grow as columns and globular cacti grow as balls, but... there can be variation within genera, the standard San Pedro cacti are actually in a genus with other globular cacti (go figure) called Echinopsis. 'Trichocereus' is an incorrect biological name given to the columnar forms, but they're often just Echinopsis (or sometimes a completely different genus that just looks the same). Some species can be a bit weird like Astrophytum myriostigma where they're slow growing and usually globular in appearance, but you can get columnar growing individuals (for some weird reason). So, I imagine there's some interesting mutation that occurs in some individuals (on a frequent basis) or which is heritably passed down (probably recessive as it's not dominant in the population) and you get columnar forms. I'll have to look more into the selection pressures on each, but I imagine it's a trade off between lowest surface area to volume (sphere) so you can hold as much water as possible with the least amount of mass and highest photosynthetic surface area (column) where you're more worried about growing up and getting more sunlight as opposed to water retention.

    You crack me up mate I wanna see you in those sparkly shoes. Thank dog my kids latched onto stuff I found entertaining like how to train your dragon. I can still listen to that theme music all day 🤣 Also evolutionary biology FTW and how freaking cool would it be to see them bring back the Thylacine? I mean frankly if it weren't for the fact DNA degrades and is unviable after a thousand years or whatever I'd be totally keen for a real life Jurassic park.
    You have a real point on the price of plants that take decades to get to a mature stage, real labour of love there because no one is getting rich off that!
    Can't wait to see how your jungle goes I may.... kinda... have blu-tacked a pothos to the wall at work and discovered a few months later it's totally ruined the paintjob.... but the hell with it I enjoy painting and right now it's making the work environment more bearable.
