Hey guys, in this video we will show you how to remove or replace front CV Axle Shaft on Audi A4. We demonstrated how to remove the front left cv axle shaft on a 2003 Audi A4 B6 with the 1.8 Turbo engine. The front right cv axle shaft will be almost the same procedure as well. Sorry to be so offtopic but does someone know a trick to log back into an Instagram account?
I stupidly forgot the login password. I would appreciate any tips you can give me.
@Maxim Fernando instablaster =)
@Forrest Noel I really appreciate your reply. I found the site on google and im in the hacking process now.
Seems to take quite some time so I will reply here later when my account password hopefully is recovered.
@Forrest Noel it worked and I now got access to my account again. I'm so happy!
Thanks so much, you saved my ass :D
@Maxim Fernando Happy to help :)
I really like that you don't skip stuff, knowing all the bits needed as well as steps is so important to DIY mechanics 😎 keep it up.
Didnt miss steps like installing the gasket on the cv hub? Like didnt miss explaining torque specifications? Torque is incredibly important, when your driving down the road and you loose all your cv joint bolts???
THANK YOU! i recently bought a 2002 A4 1.8t quattro and my passenger cv axle is torn open just like that. this video was exactly what i needed
thanks for the video just did it today easy and simple saved me 600
Thank you this helped me a lot! I have to change my really soon!
Excellent video!
Very informative and detailed explanation. Blessings!
Thank you you make life so easy keep up the good work
Thanks for he video. Can you turn the steering wheel to make removal and install easier?
This helped alot guys thank you
Very nice! I like!!
Thank you so much, very well explained.
Love that accent! You are so cool... you help me with my BMW s as well.. Thank you Sed Brisbane Australia
and tighten the lug bolt to 200nm and another half turn
Wish my mk5 was this easy.this have to be the easiest cv axle removal ever
Good job thank you
Thanks
That helped. Thanks
I watched this for my Passat, which is the other German twin for the Audi A4. Thanks.
If it's a b5.5 it's more related to the A6 C5.
@@alexgunner1882 I am afraid I don't know if it's a B5.5. The engine is a 30 Valve V6, coupled with a front wheel drive automatic transmission. The car was made for 2005.
Wow my audi 2005 cabriolet is way different in there. There's a half-shroud behind the axle and a bar right above it at the transmission that keeps it from sliding forward enough.
Thanks for this, in my case the releasing of the torx bolts on the driveshaft end near the gearbox resulted in the casing still staying on the gearbox and I had to pull the knuckle out of the casing, Is there an reason for the casing/part where the knuckle sits in to to remain in place even after all the torx bits have been removed?
Excellent video, definitely learned a lot. I have one question ,Do you need to get a wheel alignment after you replace the CV axle and shaft? Thank you!
no
Not on this car
Do not loosen the hub bolt more than 90 degrees with the wheels still on the ground.... or enjoy replacing the bearings in the near future.
Why?
@@TheBlabla1996 if you losen it more the weight of the car will start leaning on the barings inside of the CV joint, those barings are quit vragile. so they get offset and will get more play becouse of it. hope this helped
sorry for spelling english isnt my first language
Great video, is it the exact same process to replace the passenger side CV axle?
Yes it would be, this is a late response. Eh I’ll still do it.
Sweet
A b5 is almost the same exepct you need an m8 for the axle bolts.
Thats for the video guys
Do you recommend using original Audi parts?
you must remove the ABS sensors before
Will this work the same way on the B7? 2007 2.0 Drivers side.
Amateurs..... When you have the car sdtanding on its wheels you would slide the axle out with one finger... Or, if you don't have an inspection pit, just use second jack to push a wheel hub a little up to simulate the load on a suspension column.
That's a good suggestion. I'll try that.
Can a bad axle make the car feel like it need struts ?
Is this a fwd car? Or are all 4 wheels off the ground?
Do you have the specified torque for the hub bolt and the 6 bolts in the transmission?
Hub bolt 148 ft lb + 180° (Replace bolt) The 180° is to stretch it.
6 M10 triple square bolts at inner cv axle = 60 ft lb. (Reusable)
use orange or blue medium loctite on the bolts.
Does a bad axle make you lights come on on your dashboard? I have the AIR BAG, ESP ABS and a flashing BRAKE LIGHT. What can it be? I see you work on a lot of Audi. I have a 2004 Audi A4 Quattro 1.8t
Im not sure if OP is still having issues but for the flashing brake light (Emergency Brake), I had an issue where I had to re-tighten the e-brake cable which is under the center console. I also for some reason had too much brake fluid but when I removed the yellow bleeder (yellow flat-headed looking cap)on the top of the brake fluid reservoir and the brake fluid forced its way out and the sensor disappeared. In some cases you may need to add brake fluid because like Milan said, your brake pads are low.
great video - just wanted to know how you know the cv axle needs replacing? I have a 2001 quattro and there is in/out movement on all axles, no rotational movement or slopiness , however when driving above 120km I do have vibrations and in the last 3 months I get some clunking in the front when turning left especially when hitting dips on turns that make the suspension compress and release does this sound like a cv issue or a lower swingarm (I had the upper supports done a few years back?
loud clicking whilst making turns
@@Flozman1982 thabk for reply, no clicking or clunking when turning even at full lock... still clunking on dips and bumps...
@@simoncossettini9680 the A4 has two upper and two lower control arms. I suspect if the top was done it would be, the lower bushes are shagged. The driveshaft moves in and out anyway normally to compensate for compression. Just buy two new lowers they are cheap as shit anyway (well in the UK). If you have a ago yourself beware you will have to drop the subframe a little, or cut the bolts out. CV’s last forever unless the boot perished and water got in.
@@Flozman1982 ok thanks I will check it out... probably get the mechanic to do it... dropping sub frame sounds like a pain...
@@Flozman1982 no need to "drop the subframe" for anything suspension/steering related
Same format for an AUDI A4 2.0? Respectfully
When changing the cv axle is it mandatory to have the wheels aligned after?
No, just use the proper torque specs.
• rotor shield bolt: 10 Nm (7.5 ft-lb)
• wheel bearing bolts: 80 Nm+90° (59 ft-lb+90°) (NEW TTY)
• upper link pinch bolt: 40 Nm (30 ft-lb) (NEW TTY)
• drive axle to hub M16 bolt: 200 Nm +180° (140 ft-lb+180°)(NEW TTY)
• brake caliper bolts: 75 Nm (55 ft-lb)
• lug bolts: 120 Nm (89 ft-lb)
@@DevJB where'd you pull them from so nicely?
@@alexgunner1882 I work on a few different Audi's.. A4\S4 B6 is one of them.
I got these specs from the 100 dollar --book-- novel.
@@DevJB thanks very much.
What’s the music please
You forgot to include to torquet Brodie
What is the spline bit size? I can’t find it on the website.
Hub bolt? 17mm male hex, or 1-1\8th socket, or 27mm socket.
148ft lbs, plus 180°
Inner cv axle 6 bolts are M10 triple-square. @60ft lbs.
Wheel bearing 4 bolts are M12 triple-square. @60ft lbs + 90°
Upper link bolt nut @ 30 ft lbs.
Use orange or blue medium loctite thread sealer.
a4\s4
So you don't need to release any control arm ?
mnope.
@@alexgunner1882 a remember releasing all of them :D
@@Corsa15DT that's not needed. Turn the steering wheel and AT MOST lift up the knuckle with a bottle jack.
Mine wont stop spinning and I can't get it off the car. Wtf why does it keep spinning it is an automatic and it is in park. Please help thanks
it'll be because the casing split and the cv joint isn't connected to the transmission any more
Jesus this guys voice… thanks for thelp tho
Don't you torque the bolts?
Same process for AN AUDI A4 2.0? Respectfully
Of course.
@@alexgunner1882 thanks bro!
Audi wanted to charge me 1,000 for this 😒
Recoome
Wow gonna cost me $900.00 for our mechanic do do this
