Yeah a lot of people miss that subtlety of his journey at the beginning of the movie but it’s made clear that before Stratton and meeting his first mentor (played by McConaughey) he had a good marriage with a loving wife who supported him regardless of money problems and he came off as a humble guy looking to do well in life, but of course once Stratton happens it’s not just the money that changed him but the power of having created an Empire which gives many a god complex but anyway as we all know the moral is greed and excess corrupts the soul, even good people who once had good intentions.

The ridiculous appearance is a ruse, it serves as a distraction from Donnie's incredibly aggressive sales tactics.
By standing over Jordan rather than sitting down, trapping him in the booth, interrupting his meal, and blatantly ignoring conventions of polite conversation (I.e. disregarding Jordan's silent cues that he wants to be left alone and insistently pressuring him to reveal personal info) Donnie puts himself in the most dominant position possible so that when he makes his pitch Jordan will be more inclined to value the product, in this case Donnie.

there's something about the crack scene that gets me every time, it's like you can see the depravity take hold of jordan after he exhales all while complemented by the light jazz in the background, this movie has a feeling to it that no filmmaker will ever come close to duplicating

I worked in healthcare for 17 years. Emt, Paramedic, fire fighter, then radiology, and cardiology. A retinal detachment took me out of the surgery game. A friend of mine turned me on to her business, where she's pulling in more money than I was and working a fraction of my work load. I couldn't believe it. But she proved it to me. I shadowed her. I had one of these Wolf of Wallstreet moments and she showed me the money. I hit the breaks on my healthcare career and I'm pursuing this new course full speed with her mentoring me. I'm like Donnie without the crack or cousin shagging
