Please, please do an episode on platycerium!! So awesome of you to show a tutorial on mounting one onto cork board too. This video is inspiring me to consider doing some as my next plant project.
I'm Vietnamese and I've known you for 4 months. First, I like your voice, and then I like your lifestyle when I watch your videos. of course i also love Theo
It's amazing how much of a collection of plants ou have and how knowledgeable you are about them, at such a young age🥰. God bless you Benji, keep coming up with these wonderful videos in your absolutely beautiful voice. Lots of love
Love this video! I wanted to say you don’t have to break the pot- you can use a bread knife and cut at the edge of the pot and the roots and it’ll separate the roots from the pot and it has such a large root mass it won’t damage the plant that much- especially for such an established plant. Just like you would with a bonsai
This mounting instruction was very helpful and encouraging . Your method was something I could manage in my small apartment . Today I rescued my neglected staghorn that was left outside to fend for itself through lots of rain and direct sun. I’m going to grow it indoors under a grow light with much better care. I think I’ll start it off in a new orchid pot for now , while I look for cork to mount others on . I was really impressed with your collection 👍🏻
I went onto youtube specifically to check if you posted today! It's such a nice Sunday night treat to watch it here (Hi from South Africa and my different time zone!)
I slide a Wilton angled icing spatula (which is about 12" in length) along the entire inside edge of any plant pot to release the roots and soil. Then I lay the pot on its side and gently wiggle the plant out. It always works ;) Found it at Dollar Tree too!
Watching your videos is so calming just your vibe is great. I am just happy after watching your videos. I have been watching your videos and i have learnt so much about house plants. Thank you benji much love from Malaysia
I’ve topped off my pilea when it was getting too tall and I rooted the tops. And the base actually shot out multiple shoots and leaves and you’d never know it was was topped off! And the top grew exactly the same as if it was the original plant
I use a long bread slicing knife and run it along the inside of the pot between the pot and dirt whenever I need to remove a plant from terra cotta. Works like a dream.
when i make mounts i usually map out the general size of my moss ball and make 5-7 holes all around it and feed my fishing line through and all around the ball with a tooth pick taped to the end. kinda like sewing! i feel like that makes for a pretty seamless look and uses less material! i use less fishing line when i do it and it’s also really easy to pull one end and get it really tight. + all the string goes to the back, u should try it sometime benji!! :))
thank you! I don't really like how much string I end up using, but when I do eventually remove the string I reuse it for something else. I'll try out your method, although I often need visuals to help guide me, especially when it comes to things like sewing haha
I just gotta say that I love your sweater and your style overall. For each of your videos, I end up spending at least a few seconds admiring what you're wearing 🥰😅
I use a large knife to cut round the edge of the root ball when plants have adhered themselves to terracotta, and then ease them out. That way, you have to smash a lot less pots. Lovely video of your plant chores! :)
the info and demo on how to mount a staghorn from its original pot is extremely helpful, i have been searching online a lot for this since i have one growing on a shallow terracotta pot and it has been putting out really aggressive shield fronds and i need to mount it very soon!
I am so in love with your plants and the art sense you have. The way you arrange plants, the pots, everything is just so beautiful. Lots of love to three of you!!
I was just at the Huntington Library yesterday telling my mom about your channel! She was so in awe of the mounted Staghorn ferns and I was like "you need to check out BenjiPlant!" 🤩 Super impressed that Chris said "peperomioides" so well 🙌🏽
The Platycerium elephantotis in the greenhouse conservatory are amazing!! Also me too lol, but don't be too impressed, he called an Alocasia frydek and "Alopecia frydek" and a couple months ago hahaha
Hi from Adelaide, Australia. I came across your channel (now a subscriber) and watched you and your Dad going to Vietnam - loved it and so went searching for more videos. I enjoyed this one as I too have a Chinese money plant which was doing as good as Chris's (although you were maintaining it) but I don't know what happened and it started loosing petals. Thinking that it had root rot, I re-potted it and now it is a skeleton of it's former self but it has now produced several little new leaves/petals - not sure what to call them, so that's encouraging. Also I think Theo is a gorgeous fur baby. So thank you Benji (and Chris) for a great video !!
Hi Benji! If you run a butter knife or other thin but sturdy thing along the inside of the pot, you can get the plamt and soil out w/out breaking the pot.
i love pileas and seeing your grow so well is so cool (love how many babys it gets) - great job on the plant care and hope chris has a smooth plant parenthood 😄
I was just considering my first staghorn fern. Great video as always, very informative, all your plants look healthy and beautiful !! Also, I love Chris' "the moomins" shirt
i recently got a staghornfern myself because i absolutely love yours. this week i talkt to my best friend about how you should do a video on mounting them as i have no idea how to do that^^ also: very nice sweater!
Staghorn fern is on my plant wishlist. I've been waiting for you to show us how to mount them and this was perfect thank you. Looking forward to a video dedicated to them 😊
Benji perfect timing on the mounting a staghorn fern I just got my supplies in this weekend and doing this today.😝 this season I decided to limit my plant purchase, getting crazy expensive and focus on my plant set up and light.
Just to chime in, I've purchased my cork bark from Josh's frogs. Another good source would be Etsy or other online reptile/amphibian stores. It's likely cheaper than Amazon and you might be able to choose the specific piece you want with dimensions!
Thanks for the informative video, Benji. A dollar store stainless steel icing spatula is handy for removing plants from smallish clay pots. Just encircle the inside edge of the pot to free the attached roots and push a short wooden dowel or similar tool through the bottom drainage hole to release the rootball. 😸✌️
Wow what a cool staghorn fern, I like the color and fuzziness. Yay Chris potted his plant, good job! I really don’t like repotting haha, but it does need to be done. Yeah it’s been crazy windy up here in SF too, luckily my cacti haven’t blown away :P.
Hello! So, just a little recommendation to keep the beautiful pot next time when replanting. In the bottom of the pot there's a little hole and by pushing through it with a stick, the plant pops out. It was a bit sad to see a beautiful pot go to waste especially in today's world where overconsummation is taking over. Otherwise lovely video.
Stag horns/platycerium are very popular in Florida . People grow them every where in central and south Florida and sell them for lots of money for the big ones .
We used to have Wisteria on my Mum's porch, and it is very destructive and began tearing apart the porch (it tore down the guttering). So make sure you keep on top of it - don't want it destroying your (or your neighbour's) balcony.
Just today i was thinking of buying a staghorn fern, but did not like the material on how to do it and I was thinking to myself it'd be so much easier and nicer if Benji made a video on this exact subject.
Hello. A while ago I saw a video where you plant in pumice. Just wondering why you have chosen to use soil now. Just wondering what your preference is?
Soaking the root ball in water first will loosen up the soil and help keep the roots intact, ripping them away like that is counterproductive, slows the plants recovery and ability to establish faster. Australia has a few native species as does Africa 👍🏼
Yeah my sisters Friend's mom had a mounted fern that was really big and I was like ooo😍 I like your moms plant she was like what haha I've never seen them over here just online
I hope you see this comment! ❤️ 1. how old is the pilea plant?? 2. Where does Chris keep the pilea to make it so gorgeous and full? My pilea is very close under a grow light and it’s very skimpy, not even half as full. So beautiful, omg!!!! Thank you Ben for sharing, this is another great video! ❤️ 🪴
It's around 1.5 years old I think? It's kind of a funny story, we got it in another city the day after we left our college town because of really bad wildfires. The sky was dark red and ash was falling everywhere... looked like the end of the world. But that didn't stop us from picking up a new plant lol. It was originally in a 4-inch pot from trader joes. The plant moves around, but generally, it receives filtered light from a south-facing window. It gets rotated every so often so it keeps that dome structure. I've found they like a lot of light, I have some doing very well for me outside that receive a few hours of direct dappled sunlight. I also make sure to not allow the soil to dry out completely. Their lower leaves tend to yellow and die if they dry out too much, which leads to that sparse leggy look. I also fertilize regularly since they can be fast growers and put out multiple leaves at once, plus pups! Although, if you have yours super close to the grow light, it might be too bright/hot. It depends what grow light you're using though. Not related to your question, but my sunflowers were getting really tall and about to bloom, but the wind was too strong and snapped the stems T_T. I thought I'd mention that because of ur sunflower pfp and name
Yes, although they don't need to be remounted for a while. I believe most people remount theirs after a couple of years. If the moss degrades too much, you can remove it and replace it with fresh moss. Sort of just like repotting a potted plant
I love how you react when you find pests. I would freak out, but you just feed them to your fish, think they're cool, or just throw them on the ground and say it's okay. :)
I see a benjiplant video, I click
Indeed
Like absolutely everyone
Relatable 😌
Hmmm
Same :33
I love your staghorn, I'm always amazed when Chris helps you in beautifying your plants😍

"So she has a place to rest her weary stem" is adorable omg 19:59
He could be a ASMRIST with his voice and relaxing care ✨
3:31 i love how casually benji flicks the mealybug off 😭 thats a professional for you!
You two boys are so delighted to watching! All the best wishes for you two!
Actually the best youtuber! So calming and chill! Thank you for making youtube a better place!
Ur videos always give me the motivation to get out of bed and care for my houseplants.
Seeing Chris in a moomin shrit as a finnish viewer makes me so happy!!💕

I appreciate your creativity and love for plans, Benji.
I really enjoy watching your videos. You're a great teacher. I like your calm personality. Hi Chris 👋 hv fun caring for your plants 🙂
I’ve topped off my pilea when it was getting too tall and I rooted the tops. And the base actually shot out multiple shoots and leaves and you’d never know it was was topped off! And the top grew exactly the same as if it was the original plant
The vibes are always immaculate
I just love watching your videos…you have the most soothing voice and your energy is always beautiful! Thanks for the great content! 🌱🪴💕
Thank you for this video, l really enjoyed it the whole time. And it's really awesome how you take care of your plants. Love you two. ❤
Loved your video. I think it’s great that Chris is going to take care of his plants. I think he will really enjoy it. Plants are so amazing. 💚🪴🌿🌱💚
I always come back to this video whenever I needed a "Chris" dose of the day.
I love the good vibes you give in your videos, it's really inspiring, thanks to that I was able to start my little garden.
This makes me soooo happy to see. It's so relaxing to watch.

I like to use some sort of string because it does break down. The plant should eventually attach to the woodso you don't need fishing line
I just gotta say that I love your sweater and your style overall. For each of your videos, I end up spending at least a few seconds admiring what you're wearing 🥰😅

Thank you both for another lovely video! Beautiful plants and so relaxing to watch 😍 Love the moominshirt!
This light blue long sleeve looks so nice on you!
Right looks really pretty!
Epiphytes are so interesting! I first learned about staghorn from a show Martha Stewart did where she re-mounted some MASSIVE staghorns.
I love your videos. So informative and your voice is soothing.
Your videos always soothe my soul and get me excited to change up my house plants! Thank you so much for your lovely videos
the staghorn looks so good!! such a relaxing vlog as always :D
I am so in love with your plants and the art sense you have. The way you arrange plants, the pots, everything is just so beautiful. Lots of love to three of you!!

There's something so stunning about the dusty blue colour of those ferns! 😍

Hi Benji! If you run a butter knife or other thin but sturdy thing along the inside of the pot, you can get the plamt and soil out w/out breaking the pot.
I have been waiting for a benji video

i would love a dedicated video to platycerium 😁, it's such a good idea 🙏
I love your videos Benji🌿💜🌿💜🌿 Bless you & Chis & Theo🙏🏽😘😘😘
We have a lot of Staghorns in Florida usually hanging or attached to big oak trees they get massive here
when I visited Florida recently I saw huge mounted staghorns! They grow so well with the heat and humidity over there
I love your wall with staghorn fern, you are decorating home like I wanted to^^

perfect timing! I just got a stag horn from my grandmas
You should catch the drippings from rinsing and reuse them for watering - to save water :)
