- This super cheap Mercedes SLK350 will be the end of me. I've had the car for years and it's fought me every step of the way during the restoration. In this video, I'll show you Mercedes SLK350 fender replacement and Mercedes SLK350 bumper replacement. I'll also show you bumper repair so you can fix any issues with your bumper. I'll show you how to paint a bumper and put it on a car. Plus, I'll show you how to replace a fender.

Sometimes the need to finish what you started just marches you forward, regardless the outcome... thank you for taking us along for the ride!
Finally, Mike a car video I was getting sick and tired looking at those bikes 🚴
Some say he's a glutton for punishment, some say he's got a screw loose and should seek help. All I say is he's a chap with a big heart and a passion for old European cars that have problems 😊. So fair play to you Mike even if your screw is a little loose we all love you. Gary 🇬🇧🇬🇧
Thanks Gary!
Your skills deserve a shop/garage now go find it.
Have an Engine Swap Party, Randy, Santa, and so on. Knock it out in 1 Saturday
Good job Mike!
It looks a lot better than it did!
That's all that matters!
MWM the series is great. You definately have a brokeback relationship with that SLK.
Nice job Mike. If somebody buy the car without an engine, they will not look at a bumper.
Ohhh Mike are you saying your Mercedes is gay? Lol 😆 🤣 😂 😹
😂
looks million times better great job, Mike, Well done Sir.
Looking much better, Mike
Nice job Mike. I love the fact that you dont give up on the SL,K.
Great work Mike!
You know what? A rear ended SLK500 would be a perfect donor car! All the stuff for a V8 upgrade 😁
I’ve got my eye on 2!!
There are no SLK500, perhaps SL500?
That Sports car deserved saving Mike, youre brave feller to dive into it.
Excellent work on the bumper. It looks great. It doesn't need to be perfect. But it sure does look good. usable on a budget. I love that.
Good job Mike. It’s nice to be on the road to perfection. But sometimes just giving it like the attention you gave, is what made the car presentable again.
Shame about the engine but the curb appeal is back! Good work as usual!
You did a good job 👍🏼
Mike, try that head gasket repair fluid! Ya got nothing to lose.
Great stuff Mike
You can buy plastic soldering kits which allow you to melt a clip in from the rear of bumpers etc to close off cracks and then you can work on the finish on the front, works pretty well.
Looks great with the bumper and grill. Great Job Mike.
She's nice looking from a distance......just like Mike.
Just kidding Mike, you even look good in close up!!
Keep wrenching 👍
Kudos for perservering on these old but gold German sports cars
Great job Mike, the car is looking really good. i love your channel. You’re such a patient guy working on cars.. and good at it too. Keep it up!!
He Mike you could probably ABS weld the bumper cracks
great job Mike, it looks very good 👍
Nice video Mike, really enjoyed this one. Glad to see you are persevering with the SLK. Replacing the front fender and installing the front bumper motivated you to clean the engine bay. Keep going the SLK will come out awesome.
Well a step closer than before. Maybe you finish it someday or maybe not but I can say you always try to make your vehicle nice with out spending a lot of money.👍
I have forgotten anything you have said about the engine on this thing. What's wrong with it?
The front looks good. You did a good job on it, Mike. 😊
Everything was wrong with the engine… lol
Mike, I knew you were not going to let this go. However, since most of the vehicle is still good and it's getting increasingly rarer on the roads today, I really hope you do find a good powertrain for this. Do remember that not all ECU and TCM will match up so make sure the programming is done properly or this will truly be the 'Kaput Benz'. 😅
Yayyy SLK repair!
It looks 100 percent better nice job 👏 👍 😅
peel the yellow stuff off and use short strand fiberglass u should beable to make it look nice
I bought a New 06 sl65 in December of 05 .. my favorite car of all time.. a few years later, I went through a mid-life crisis and traded it in on a 911 turbo.. it wasn't half the car that my SL was..
Glad you're persevering with this project. It looks a lot better than before.
The gaps around the front Mercedes star logo grill look huge. It's the wrong bumper and will never fit properly. They changed the hood. This is confirmed by the fog lights not fitting. Your car is a newer model than the parts car. Its post facelift (2008-2011), the parts car is pre facelift (2004-2008). Hope this helps.
Edit: Your SLK is a bit of a Frankenstein car. The hood is definitely post 2008. You can tell by the vents. But the wing mirrors are pre facelift 2004. So who knows what you've got! LOL
It’s a huge mess…
@@MonkeyWrenchMike LOL Yup.
It's an 04, 05, 06, 07, 08, 09, 10, 11 Mercedes Benz!@@MonkeyWrenchMike
Yeah was going to say this is actually a downgrade because he had the facelifted model. At least you got a new fender. I would still source a new bumper if possible.
Love the channel! I love these cars but when I sat in one my head hit the roof!
With humor and hope, mike brings cars to life, well almost!! Lmao
harbor freight hot air welder with polyvance filler rod is a great strong way of repairing plastic bumpers, get the right filler material, usually polypropylene but always check. A bit challenging to weld PP but when you get it down its a great repair
Bumper looks fairly decent. Somehow I feel like we’re enabling the MB addiction. 😁
I'd like to see this one finished. Make sure when you find an engine have it delivered to AAR. That would be the best place to get her done
Mike on that bottom piece, just paint it wrinkle finish Black after you get it cleaned up. Just a idea. Be safe.
I'm glad that you are not giving up on the SLK. I would even remove the heads to see what is going on, what can you lose?
Get an aftermarket lip kit for the bumper and have it paint matched.
7:28 nice work Mike but I’ve got to be honest I’ve seen smaller gaps in the Grand Canyon than that A pillar to guard! 😂
Keep up the great work mate you’re always entertaining.
Cheers Pat🇦🇺
I don't think it was meant for Art for the 2 door Mercedes to be Drive Way Art. It is a lot nicer looking since you put the bumper on it. I didn't notice the damage on the fender you removed.
Love these behind the scenes videos! Keep it up Mike we love to see the grind you put in!
Thanks! Will do!
I would clean it up, some fiberglass and resin and then paint after contour sanding to blend
Came out just fine, didn't know about engine issues, what's up with that?
Hay Mike, you did a fantastic job and the car looks so much better now with the bumper fitted and the paint matched looks amazing
Thanks 👍
Mike should build a Mercedes pickup truck and then he'll have the best of both worlds
Excellent idea!!
@MonkeyWrenchMike
W126 500 SEL pick up yes please!
@@paulie-Gualtieri. What this gentleman said
@@MonkeyWrenchMikean El Benzino 😂
If they can weld Cast Iron, i'm sure those composite panels can be glued back together .
Fantastic job Mike she looks great
I think it looks fabulous. Great job
Real improvement Mike. Looking forward to the new engine. Mick London
You're so good Great video!!
Awesome work Mike ! Hope your engine hunting turns out good.
🤞🏻🤞🏻
@@MonkeyWrenchMike 🤞👍
Great video, I do agree that it’s a nice car and can understand why you feel that way about the car Mike.
Excellent job on the bumper.
Good job
Because you are not a quitter. You never succeed if you quit.
It looks awesome 😀🔥
Plastic Soldering kit is like $30 at Harbor Freight, that should help structure it, then fill with Plastic Bondo, it will be like new again
Whistling 😙 Through The Internet Lol 🤣 she does look good 👍
Good video. Glad you found some parts. Watch some videos by Polyvance on repairing plastic bumpers. Get a plastic welding kit from harbor freight.
That's a nice fender that was on it
I really liked your video this time Mike. Hope it gets lots of views and new subs for you.
Me too!
It’s still looks good , Mike
That's a great color match Mike
The Mercedes looks good Mike. Good job 😎😎👍👍
If you polish the car and the headlights, it'll probably sell very fast. Good work, Mike. I don't think the red was thecolorof the bumper but rather the pigment from the hardner in the body filler that was used (probably glazing putty which is the wrong filler).
I think I would have used fiberglass on the bumper.
Congratulations looks great.
13:30 paint job looks good to me!
Take the engine! Unless you have some miracle mystery fluid to heal the scored cylinder walls
You didn't grind out the paint or cracked spot. Your adhesive won't stick to a dirty painted surface
very beatiful... she is going to be amazing when she runs 😆
Thought about you last weekend, Mike. I found a junkyard here in North Carolina that has $50.00 days every Saturday! Everything you could put in a wheelbarrow was $50.00! Problem was the yard was filled with sand which wiped me out getting back to pay! MB/Jaguars were about 1/2 mile from the shop!
Dang!!
Great video and great job Mike! As always love your videos
Nicely done, for the million dollar shot polish the headlights. Nothing tells the real age of a car like faded front beams. For the bumper the old baseball bat trick should do it. Wichita you say? They have a great YT scene there, Jimbo from Robot Cantina and the other usual suspects.
Mercedes used a red base primer on plastic bumpers of the age. Mine has it too cause I lowered my w220 and scraped it pulling into my driveway it shows in mine and my car has never had paint work it was a 1 owner with 73 on it when I bought it I have 118 on it currently
I would purchase some J B weld , shaping and putting the bumper in good order then seal with J B weld.
Your car has the sport package, so bumper, wheels and side skirts are different, thats why the fog lights don't match. I agree is way more presentable now
Fiberglass cloth and epoxy on the inside of the bumper, then body filler on the outside. Getting the pieces in position will be the hard part, but that’s what the zip ties are for, to be removed after the epoxy sets (well, as much of them as can be removed). This is what I did when rebuilding a one-piece bumper cover for my old VW Vanagon ages ago.
Next time on your travels, seatbelt mate when driving, we need you mate!
My folks still have mom’s old 2002 E320 wagon, which they put maybe 1,000 miles on per year. It’s referred to as “the truck” and is pulled out pretty much just for hauling duties. Any other driving is done with the Volt, which is charged off of the solar panels on their roof, rarely needing gasoline.
Great video and work😀
Great video!
Good stuff!
nice job!
You done a very nice job looks great Mean a lot difference is that a word thanks Paul from Hamilton Hammertown I mean hamilton Ontario
Nice job on bumper monkey wrench
Guessing it would need a trailering back to MN. That would be a fun project for my channel.
Looks great Mike. Have you sold the ML55 already? That would be great for parts hauls.
Stick with it Mike, I used to have an SLK and it's a fun little car.
Good job! Call John Ross see if he wants a project
At least it looks good in the driveway. 😉
Do the new engine with Randy at his shop!
Put some fiberglass on it and fix and sand it down.
Mike it does look better with a nose
Mike car looks great I had the same problem with my slk fix and run my friend haha
John your friend from Scotland
Scotland!! Very cool!
I'd looked at the post on Facebook. My opinion on how people view the car on Facebook. The price is high for a mass produced car with a bad engine.
