Thank you for making it simple and understandable. I've been looking on the net for hours for one that you showed exactly. Everyone else made it sound like rocket science and they were different switch's. But you nailed it and i thank/you ,now i won't have too worry about my apartment burning down. Thanks for keeping it simple and to the point. M.
First off, thank you very much for the crystal clear explanation (laying out pieces on the table made it much easier to understand). I have been searching on youtube for exactly this and I havent been able to find a good one with such clear explanation as your video. Thanks again for helping me and others as well. Keep up the good work, sir!
I’ve wired a bunch of outlets and switches before, but never seen one with a switch prewired. You’re very easy to follow video and layout made it absolutely a piece of cake. Thank you for posting.
Like the other comments, i think you have the best video explaining how it works, all the other ones show the wires in the box which makes it harder to follow, and the cat at the end was the icing on the cake, thank you
This is the best explained video on UA-cam. I added and installed my new light fixtures and switches just watching this video. Thank you for this video!
Thank you! I'm adding a dimmer instead of replacing an existing switch and all the other tutorials sort of blow right passed the part where you deal with the line in and line out. Re-reading the instructions AFTER watching your concise explanation, NOW it makes sense.
You have line in (hot) and line out identified. At the wall however we see only two black and they aren't labelled line and load. Other videos say that it doesn't matter which way they are connected. On a LED dimmer however, is this still the case. In other words... in future videos can I suggest addressing this central question.
This is by far the best video for this! I for searched for hours trying to find a simple to understand live layout of how to install an switch to a lamp (from scratch). Before watching this video I burnt a Lutron switch but now thanks to you I was able to connect 5 new connections successfully. Much appreciated 🙏 and you've earned a Subscriber.
After watching this video I know exactly what to do. The other videos I viewed weren't nearly as good and failed to adequately explain the process. Thanks!!
Thank you! This helped me soooo much. I could not figure out what I was doing wrong for 2 days of trying to install our new dimmer switch. Your video saved me from hiring an electrician! Thank you!!
Thanks for making it the set-up so easy video. In my situation, I have 14/3 wires, unlike your 14/2 wires, for Line-In (Black, White, Red, and Ground copper). It is not a 3-way situation, so the red wire with the flag stays unused in my case. Since I do not have a ceiling fan for the red wire, I capped the red wire in the Line In. This might help others who are dealing with a 14/3 Line-In wire situation while installing the same dimmer.
THANK YOU SIR.. I viewed at least 5 videos on how to install a dimmer switch. And let me tell you and your viewers. Your video was the simplest and easiest..I put my 92 year old mothers kitchen dimmer switch in less than 5 minutes. It was straight forward and on point.. I give you two thumbs up👍👍 and I am going to share your video.. GREAT JOB, GREAT EASY VIDEO.
GREAT EXPLANATION, Actually the best on UA-cam …by far. Excellent. I will do my connection today. I have purchased the same Dimmer. Would think it will work with wiring gage 14 ? THANK YOU.Again . Richard
HI again, Everything went perfect, as you have perfectly explained. It took me more time, due to the new installations and hidden wiring. What a pleasure to get such a interesting video. Thank you so much. I am now your new fans and subscribed to your channel.
so the polarity doesnot matter for load in -> into the switch dimmer. Which one did you connect from the main positive 120 volts or the -120v to the black in for dimmer
Hello, I did this step exactly. My project is 4 under cabinet led kitchen puck lights. They are 2 wire, black and white , each wire set runs through the wall individually towards an area for a junction box. So I did join my hot black( from red wire dimmer as per your vid) up into a j box area to meet my 4 in wall led puck light wires. As the puck lights are only 2 wire, ( black and white), I figure join black line in to the 4 black loads out. But to make this happen, what do I connect the 4 led white wires to? I lust the dimmer instructions and yes this is for a single pole application What do I join to the white wires coming off the puck light wiring?
Nice demo. Quick question: Our house was built in the ‘50’s and most of the wiring is updated but some of the circuits contain older wiring in some of the wall boxes/outlets. So, I have a dimmer to install with the exact same wiring scheme but there is no neutral with the ‘line in’. In that case, what does the white/neutral/‘line out’ wire connect to if there is no white/neutral for the ‘line in’? Thanks.
Whomever wired my house seems to have used romex as an extension from the light switch, presumably running to a junction box where it is in the orientation you'd demonstrated here. To your knowledge, is there a name for this technique? Also, one of my switches has a black, red, green, and a white. Considering my setup, do I need the white or can I just cap it off on it's own?
Thanks for this. I do have a reassurance question though lol. My box has 4 black wires. 3 white neutral wires, and 3 bare copper wires. Home was built in '98. There was no ground wire connected to the original light switch. Just 2 of the 4 black wires; which are connected at the bottom, and the top. I'm installing a new LED recessed light from Commercial Electric; with a Lutron CL Dimmer LED switch ( DVWCL - 153PH - WH ). There are 4 wires on the new LED switch. Black. Red. Green. Red & White which I have capped off, because I'm not using it as a three-way from 2 separate locations. My question is would I leave the 3 White Neutral wires alone, and connect the green wire from the switch to 1 of the bare copper wires or all 3? Black from switch to black Line in, and Red wire from switch to black Load out wire? Hope this makes sense, and any help would be appreciated.
I have 1 line that's is coming from the fixture and the white wire is hot but so is my black wire hot.. How do I install the exact same dimmer that you have Thanks
I know this is an old video but I am not sure where to turn. Scenario I am trying to fix. I have new LED ceiling lights and 3 switch locations IE:outside master bedroom, outside spare bedroom and at the bottom of the stairs. I purchased a digital dimmer but dimmer and light only functions from that switch. If that switch is "Off" the other switches no longer control the light. House wiring only has Single Pole wiring. Can I wire this in a way to have the old system and dimmer? Dimmer is fine in one location but the switch controls all power to new circuit now.
I have connected my dimmer switch and followed the instructions but the switch won’t turn lights on at all any idea why. Maybe a troubleshooting issue?
Out of ten "How To" for dimmers this is the ONLY one that shows complete wiring. Gratz!
this is the most clear and detailed explanation on youtube. thank you
Glad it was helpful, thank you for watching!
Thanks a ton! Perfect video. The simplest explanation available, after going through SO MANY videos. Phew!
Hands down the best teaching video on UA-cam on how to install a dimmer light switch. Great job bro you sure earned my respect. 👍🙏
Awesome! Thank you!
Thank you so much! I went through several other videos and no one had it as simple and well displayed as this.
Glad it helped!

How do I install the exact same dimmer that you have

What are you doing with that other red wire with the tag on it? do you put a cap on it? Do you leave it alone? Is it safe to do nothing with it?
excellent video thank you....

lights to turn off at the switch. Please help
what if you mixed the wires the wrong way ?
Great, thanks!

Thanks !

How to install that switch with power orginating from the light
What if you only have the one lline in(HOT)?
Traducido en español
Why did you cut the white wire just to hook it back up
Great explanation, but no matter how hard i try i cannot make my hands move that fast!
LOL! 😅
And I need the “We’re not looking at that today” part. 😞
Can line in be wall outlet?
I dont suppose it would be an issue, not sure if wiring would be same vs wall.
Great video BUT you didn't mention something very important: TURN OFF THE ELECTRICITY FIRST!!
Yes, you are absolutely right! Always turn off power by flipping the circuit breaker off. Thank you!
This man's house burnt down while he was on vacation in the Poconos three hours after the making of this video.
