To my shock, my college educated grandmother (1892) who taught my grandfather how to drive, was opposed to giving women the vote! By the time I found this my grandmother was dead so I couldn't ask her why. My dad couldn't remember why. He'd only been 4 when women got the vote.

@@honieebean More women died in childbirth than men died in war. Bearing and raising children was an essential part of society. It was dangerous and difficult.---- So I guess women could have just stopped having sex to solve that problem. I don't think the men would have appreciated that.-------On another note, it's weird how women didn't want the female sex to have the vote. To me if you don't want, as a woman, to vote, then don't vote.

And around 30 years before this happened in the States, New Zealand was (once again) a world leader.

The Suffragettes should not be confused with the entire Suffrage Movement. They were a distinct faction and one that did more harm, it can easily be argued, than good to the cause with their extremist militant methods. The Suffragists were mostly moderates who saw clearly that the tactics of the Suffragettes were actually alienating society against their cause. It was these moderates that did most of the heavy lifting, though ofc it was WW1 that truly changed things.
It is also worth noting that the Suffragettes not only did not fight for universal suffrage (they ignored the 40% of men that also didn't have a vote) they were among the first to give out white feathers to shame men to go to the front line and die in the Great War. I mean, in the spirit of the title of this vid, was this misandry?

It is just that the United States is global hegemonic power and so the U.S gets more media coverage and press. I am sure other countries that are Anglophone such as New Zealand (for the Kiwi's), Australia, United Kingdom, and Canada to vote earlier. I would say the earliest documents of women being allowed to vote was the Arapahoe Nation of Ohio, Indiana, and Illinois to let Arapahoe women to vote and these women in their communities had political power in terms of electing local tribal chiefs for their clan.
So why don't we credit the Arapahoe women for being the early trendsetters to let women govern their tribal communities and have political influence than these post-Colonial European countries that are an extraction of Settler colonialism smh.
