We as woman in my country could vote in 1920 I believe. Why is this about USA. I dont think the USA was first at all. There were countries wers first
Very true, I saw someone say New Zealand gave women the write to vote in the late 1800s. And Australia in 1901.
It is just that the United States is global hegemonic power and so the U.S gets more media coverage and press. I am sure other countries that are Anglophone such as New Zealand (for the Kiwi's), Australia, United Kingdom, and Canada to vote earlier. I would say the earliest documents of women being allowed to vote was the Arapahoe Nation of Ohio, Indiana, and Illinois to let Arapahoe women to vote and these women in their communities had political power in terms of electing local tribal chiefs for their clan.
So why don't we credit the Arapahoe women for being the early trendsetters to let women govern their tribal communities and have political influence than these post-Colonial European countries that are an extraction of Settler colonialism smh.

Are they gonna talk about how woman's sufferage was wildly unpopular with women themselves, and had a 20% approval at MOST?
Of course they won't. Rather you'll have feminists who adulate the violent Suffragette yet while knowing nothing of at least the peaceful Suffragists.

I think racism is extremely relevant when talking about giving rights to any marginalised group in a historical context from the same era.
