At a thrift store, I found about 10 quilt tops that were waiting to be finished or were at different stages of being put together. I could tell they were quality, made by a really talented quilter. There were many other sewers' items, including a very expensive sewing machine and table. I wondered what happened to the seamstress. I couldn't leave them there and have finished several of them and put them in our church craft sale. I wondered if this was "cheating" to say I made them when I only finished them. I felt I did them for the person who started. It brought me joy to have her beautiful quilts being put to use.
I absolutely LOVE that you were thrifting and came across a quilt top with mostly your fabrics and your pattern. I hope the person that made it is watching and sees that her top ended up in your hands!
It’s so pretty. My find left me speechless. I went in because I was bored and I found a Feather Weight sewing machine in the case and working great for 25 dollars. I love it and it runs great. It was a blessing.
I was cutting 5" blocks of red, white, and blue fabrics today for a Quilt of Valor, and had scraps of fabric leftover. I remembered some very small quilt block patterns I had. I had to stitch a red, white and blue top with my scraps. I get off on a tangent often in my sewing adventures.
Kind of a thrift store story: When my (all in their 40’s now), Children were under 10-12 years old I sewed a lot of clothes for them… when they were in their late teens… I was about town, shopping and I spied a little girl wearing an skirt & top that I had made. I was impressed the complete set was intact and being worn. It brought me such joy!!❤😅
That thrift store find is one in a million or, dare I say, a zillion! What a blessing! It says to me God is so pleased with the work you are doing and how you bless others. I am too!
I am so grateful you release your videos on a Saturday. After a long work week, I look forward to still being in my jams with a fresh cup of coffee and watching my "friend" display her lovely fabrics and patterns. Thank You, Corey. You inspire me!
Oh finding a lost child at the thrift store. What a gift, I can understand how you could not leave it at the store. Someone did a good job on the piecing. This was such a good video I enjoyed the visit. Can't wait to see more.
Corey, my dear, I’m delighted tell you I’ve purchased EVERY fabric you’re using to make a summer version of Happy Holiday Stars. I don’t know how you’ll arrange your colors, but I’m keeping the 4 red blocks in the center, I’ll have 9 green blocks & 6 each of the yellow & peach. Doing my Snoopy dance! 😂 Thank you for all you do!!! Lisa
Corey I love thrifting and have found many vintage quilts that always seem to come home with me, lol. One of my most exciting thrifting finds was an Oliso iron!!! I had been wanting one but couldn’t justify the price so when I found one for $15.75 I was over the moon!! Thanks for your creativity and inspiration, keep it coming!!
Thank you for the Happy Holiday pattern. So beautiful!!! About the Thrift Store find, my first thought (being an older grandmother)was someone was working on that and maybe passed away and the children cleaning out her belongings gave it to the Thrift Store, not knowing what to do with it. Someone will truly treasure it when you finish it. I made that same pattern in a much larger size, using my own stash trying to get it cleared out somewhat and truly enjoy it every day! Thank you, Corey, for all of your ideas, creations, and the spirit of sharing those things with us. You are truly inspirational to many quilters! Devonna Tabor
It would be so much fun to know the back story of the quilt! I have donated quilt blocks as well as quilt tops before to one of our local thrift shops...many of ours use all of the proceeds for charities so I don't mind making donations of that sort to them. I know that's not the case everywhere though!
I cannot believe someone got rid of that quilt top after all that work! And it's gorgeous! Would certainly be a favorite for me and I wouldn't have left it either.
Awww Corey, i am so thrilled to have a free pattern! I have lots of fabric that will complement your beautiful pattern! Thank you again, and thank you for being so generous with us fans. ❤

Thanks for the free pattern Corey, can’t wait to get my Starberry fabric! My LQS just started to carry Tilda, beautiful fabric and her patterns are so whimsical! Can’t wait for the BOM, will be a great winter project with happy colors!
What a find!❤. My favorite was getting a hand pieced, hand quilted pineapple log cabin for 9.99! I don’t think they realized it was hand made. It is very dark, browns and blacks and creams. Not my usual taste, but the hand work is gorgeous and I don’t think it had ever been used.
I love that quilt-top story. For you, it feels like a circle with your art coming back around to you. And for the maker, that was quite a gift to be passing forward, whatever the reason. It looks like he/she had a great time working with your piecing and colors. 💙
Thank you Corey for sharing all your, little bits of these and little bits of that, doings, I throughly enjoyed seeing all the colorful fabrics and quilts. A special thank you for the free pattern, such kindness. Have a wonderful day!
I love when I find quilt shop quality fabrics at my local thrift store. Many even fall into the vintage category. Not all come home with me, but you can bet that if I find any size piece of Thimbleberries fabric, I’m buying it. So glad you were able to purchase that quilt with your pattern and fabrics. It looks like it was well constructed.
I bought a fat quarter bundle of your Christmas line. I just love it!I need to think about a nice large pattern! I love the Cali & Co also. I thought it was ment for the Cali & Co quilt store in California!
Another great video. I just love watching you talk about anything quilt related. 30 years ago I purchased a quilt top with Sun Bonnet Sue hand appliquéd squares. Sadly I was new to quilting and didn’t know how to fix the couple holes in it, so I never finished it. It got lost when I moved, but now, that I am a more seasoned quilter, the next quilt top I might find, will be finished.
I love the Christmas starberry quilt. And the fabric pull you did for a picnic star quilt was truly amazing. I loved all the fabrics you pulled, especially the gorgeous gingham. I loved the Peachy Keen and the orange gingham together. And what a serendipitous find that quilt top was at the thrift store!! You must have been so surprised to see that and of course, you had to buy it!! It’ll look great all quilted up and I think the spools are such a cute pattern.
Love that quilt top, what an incredible find!! This isn't a thrift store find but it could have been. I inherited a very old quilt top from my mom, originally made by a great grandmother, and we don't know when it was made, but based on the era and the fact that it contains flour sack/grain sack fabric, I would say it's most likely from the 1930s or 40s. I wish I could share a photo of it here! I love fabric from that era, with the bright colors and fascinating prints. The quilt top has 80-90 years' worth of grime on it but I'm afraid to wash it! I suppose I might have to try as I really want to honor my great grandmother by completing it and then displaying it on my bed. Anyway, just thought I would share that 😊.
Great video! I think my favorite thrift store find is Fiestaware dishes. They’re so bright and happy and I love adding to my collection. Their colors often remind me of your fabric colors.
Last week l found a $ 400.00 Tutto sewing machine roller tote for $ 60.00 at a thrift store.....very good condition...perfect for storing and traveling with my smaller sewing machine....❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
That's so awesome that you found one of your own patterns AND so many of your fabrics!! I've done some thrifting but I never find great stuff. Next time I'm out and about I will try to see if I can do some more. Certainly when we go to the Oregon Coast this summer, I will look there. I've found some neat things there but I usually didn't have the money to pick them up.
I'm not a fan of checks, but this is perfect, and I love the picnic colouration. This is a great starry pattern. And that quilt top was a great find. Hugs, Chel 🌸
Thanks for the free pattern. Looking forward to Starberry fabric, it is a refreshing Christmas colour palette.I am excited to see how to fussy cut the centers. At first glance, I thought it was a mini nine patch. The best thrift find was 2M of five coordinating prints for $30 - all Tula Pink, Salt Water. Your spools quilt top is beautiful... I am adding that pattern to my cart!
The stack of fabrics behind me is from Peachy Keen (also that darker blue quilt behind me). And they would be pretty in that pattern. =) I have a list of my fabric lines on my blog (on the side bar) if you ever need a reference. =)
I found a beautiful, old blue and white quilt top with a little bit of bleach spots on it. The thrift store wanted $18 so I rescued it right then and there! Someone was probably heartbroken by those bleach spots, but this brought me so much joy! I cannot wait until my longarm machine is home from the shop to finished it!
What a find indeed! I don’t find much quilting fabric in Canadian thrift stores, but did go to a charity fabric sale recently and found 3 Glacé charm packs by 3 Sisters and 1 yard of a Mary Engelbreit fabric. I didn’t know she ever designed for Moda, fabric was rolled so I just choose it because it felt nice and I liked the colours. Plus I got about 2 yds of Christmas print by Basic Grey and a 42” of a Halloween stripe by Northcott fabrics! Best sale ever!!!
I’m guessing someone was cleaning out their mother’s things after she passed or moved into assisted living and got rid of the quilt top. We had to do that recently, so that’s what popped into my head right away. I bet the maker would be thrilled to know it ended up with you!
The only reason I can think of as to why someone would make such a lovely quilt top and then give it away to a thrift shop, is that something may have happened to them and their non-quilting family was clearing out her sewing room. I’m so glad you were the one who found it. 🥹
That's certainly possible! I've donated quilt tops before though too because our local thrift shops support various charities....so, that may have been the thinking too.
Thank you for another free pattern Corey. Look forward to your Mystery Sew Along in 2025. What a fun find for you at the thrift store. It’s wonderful that the value was placed on the quilt top but sad that it ended up there. Unfortunately when someone passes…if that was the case here…the family members don’t see the value in it like a quilter does. Hope my tops don’t end up in a thrift store. I better have a talking to with my children before that happens. But the good thing is that it wasn’t just tossed and you got to purchase it. See you next time.
I wanted to totally thank you for the great hints for binding my quilts. Ironing after attaching the first edge was a game changer. My best binding edge ever, and so easy, no struggles at the corners. Yay! Your Checks Mix book is one of my all time favorites, and your springbrook collection is yummy. So nice to see Tilda fabrics, so whimsical, love her website, some of her quilts with girls (Windy Days) remind me of Pippi Longstocking , cherished books of long ago. I so enjoy your videos, yay you!
The workmanship on your thrifted quilt looked good to! I've not found anything like that, but I have donated fat quarter bundles and layer cakes that I was not going to use, always hoping they will bring some quilter joy.
Oooh!...that's a great one! At this same thrift store a year or so ago, I found a stack of the Missouri Star Block magazines...I didn't need them so I left them behind---that was a fun find too!---someone else would have been so happy to have them.
I love Tilda too. And I have hoarded it as well…lol. But I have actually planned and executed several Tilda quilts. They make me happy once I make the first cut! 😂
Received my Strawberry fat quarter bundle and fabric yesterday and I have started cutting out 4 dearly loved patterns. Super excited! The reds are so vibrant and beautiful!
Thank you for the quilt pattern in the beautiful starberry fabrics. I’m waiting on my Wooly wall hanging kit and the Cuddle up Sampler kit. Love this Christmas line!!! I love thrift shops and I love looking for hand made doilies. My favorite finds were small crocheted doilies with pansies around the edges. I love cross stitch items and if I was lucky enough to find a quilt top like yours, I would have to buy that!!
Yes, my eyes are definitely bigger than my time - especially this time of year! You look great, Corey, looks like you’ve been working out in the sun! Looking into getting Starberry fabric on line since I don’t have a local quilt shop!
Thank you Corey for sharing your fabric pulls with us today. I love the spring version of your Happy Holiday Stars quilt, and your Tilda fabric pull. Just the other day I was at my go to quilt shop in Lancaster county. Told my husband I was just there to get some template plastic, no fabric. Yeah, right. They had just gotten in their bolts of Starberry, so I got most of the yardage I need for the Cuddle Up Sampler QAL. And Lo and behold, right on the top of their precut shelves, was a layer cake of TILDA’S 25th Jubilee fabric, with adorable birds and flowers. That came home with me too. I LOVE Starberry, and ordered from their online store what I needed to make the holiday wooly wall hanging.
Would love to see the Holiday Stars worked up in the bright colors. Love the fabrics you pulled for that. I'm looking forward to the Cali & Co. mystery and seeing the blocks in the Tilda colorway, too. I just recently learned of Tilda and promptly purchased a kit for one of her quilt designs. I rarely thrift, but when visiting friends in North Carolina last month, we visited an antique mall, and I came home with a 1930's era/ hand appliqued/hand quilted lap-twin size quilt. There's no batting, but as a friend pointed out, that probably makes sense in a warmer climate. How wonderful that you came across that quilt top. I love the varying block patterns used for the center of the spools.
I've really been enjoying working with those Tilda fabrics for this project....I did get everything starched and cut out and have been sewing away over the last few days and it's been quite fun!
My favorite find, unfortunately not a quilt, was a $5 travel coffee pot 18 years ago and I still use it when traveling. Being an Ohio girl, now living out West, I love this block and have just the fabrics for it. Pepper & Flax. It’s still my favorite fabric line of all time and I have tons of it. Thanks for the pattern. Have a great Memorial 🇺🇸 weekend.
What a Thrift fine. Your husband is totally right, I was thinking the same thing, value in the quilt top. And you found it. The pricing is sew nicely done. Would love to know its story, thus far. The quilt did find the perfect home in which to be completed in. Enjoy your treasure. This quilt needs a label to tell its history. Oh, yes, our eyes are bigger than our time. ❤
Love your blouse!! Love the gingham. I love surprises at thrift store!! Hope to do your mystery sew along in January. My favourite find was a travel antique iron still in the box. Thanks for video
Thank you so much! My fabrics are carried in quilt shops both online and locally...if a shop has the plaids that you are interested in, you could purchase the yardage you need of each.
Hi Corey, I always look forward to your Saturday videos. I appreciate you giving examples of how your fabrics from previous lines co-ordinate with each other.I have a few of your fabric lines including Starberry. I am one that buys the fabric and think about the pattern later, so thanks for the free pattern. That quilt top find was meant for you to purchase. It's amazing that the top was made with your fabric lines and you happen to buy it, that is awesome. I haven't seen any quilting related products in the thrift stores where I'm from (Bermuda). Thanks for sharing.
I usually start with fabric and plan for the quilt later. Even with my business projects...I design the fabric first and then see what it wants to get made into later. =) That approach always works great for me. =)
I did have a wonderful “find” once. It was at a quilt show and an “old” top was hanging in someone’s booth and it literally reached out and grabbed me! 😀 The blocks were tiny rectangles of what I think are 50’s fabrics and a red border had been added of 30’s reproduction fabric. I could not leave it behind, just as you said! So I bought it and a friend hand-quilted it for me with muslin on the back and wool batting. I have LOVED that quilt over the years. I’m careful with it now, as some of those older fabrics are wearing; but I still use it. Those “finds” are just a real gift in our quilting lives, aren’t they! Congratulations on your find!
One of my best thrift store finds was a set of sampler blocks from a quilt group. I knew it was a quilt group because many were signed. I wasn't sure how to finish it until 2 weeks later when I stopped back in and found a yard of the focal fabric that was in every block. I set the blocks on point and then using the Cutting Corners pieced set in squares directions for the borders I used that one yard to create a border that matched the blocks.
Not a thrift store find but a yard sale - I found a queen size duvet cover from Pottery Barn - 100% cotton. Very interesting print. They were asking $10 but I asked if they'd take $5 and they said yes. I snapped it up and it made a wonderful backing PLUS leftover used in various other things. The front and back were the same so that was a lot of fabric!!
It's amazing what we find in thrift stores sometimes!
I love how it "feels" like there are home canned goods on the shlf behind you instead of pre cuts 😊💕😊 i love your eye for color combos!
I absolutely LOVE that you were thrifting and came across a quilt top with mostly your fabrics and your pattern. I hope the person that made it is watching and sees that her top ended up in your hands!
That would be fun!
That’s too cool for school, isn’t it!!
Lol, there's the quilter's curse: may you find a quilt you made at the thrift store! In this case it's a blessing.
It’s so pretty. My find left me speechless. I went in because I was bored and I found a Feather Weight sewing machine in the case and working great for 25 dollars. I love it and it runs great. It was a blessing.
Wow...that's a wonderful find!...way to go!
Yeah wonderful find… it was meant to be yours!!!
I’m glad I’m not the only one who just has to go pull fabrics for a project when they come into my head!!! Lol
Sometimes you get an idea in your head and you need to run with it!

That's so fun!
I’m guessing someone was cleaning out their mother’s things after she passed or moved into assisted living and got rid of the quilt top. We had to do that recently, so that’s what popped into my head right away. I bet the maker would be thrilled to know it ended up with you!
It would be fun to know the back story, wouldn't it!
Your videos are so enjoyable! Your quilting fabric, patterns and stories are just so uplifting!❤
Thank you so much!
Thats such a pretty quilt top you found. I can’t believe it ended up in a thrift store near you.
It was a fun find!
You're so welcome! I do wonder what the story behind the quilt top is!
Yes! Carve some time out to make the summer picnic version!! 🧺 Happy Holiday Stars would look terrific in patriotic colors also.
I'd love to make time if I can!
Love your picnic quilt fabric pull! And, how exciting find the quilt top :)
Thank you!
I am so happy to hear that about the machine binding. It's so nice to have a technique for machine binding that works well!
I love the pattern and size. Once again thank you for keeping us inspired! ❤
You are so welcome! Thank you!
The workmanship on your thrifted quilt looked good to! I've not found anything like that, but I have donated fat quarter bundles and layer cakes that I was not going to use, always hoping they will bring some quilter joy.
Yes!...it is very nicely pieced. =)
Fantastic find! Congratulations. I think I’m going to sew your star quilt in Sunwashed. Thank you so much for the pattern and fabric suggestions 😊
It'll be beautiful in all Sunwashed!
Really enjoyed this video Corey! I love the idea of your fabric pull for another Star quilt! Thank you for the pattern! Your Thrift find is fabulous!!
Thanks so much for watching!
Using your old Tilda fabrics is wonderful! Im in agreement with hubby about the value of the flimsy you " reclaimed" 👍💖
He was right about that, wasn't he!
My best thrift store purchase was Lori Holt's Farm Girl Vintage book. Seemingly unused for less than $4!! What a find!!
Oooh!...that's a great one! At this same thrift store a year or so ago, I found a stack of the Missouri Star Block magazines...I didn't need them so I left them behind---that was a fun find too!---someone else would have been so happy to have them.
I love your tutorials…and what a great find at the thrift store!❤
It was a fun find!
What an amazing find in a thrift store. I would have definitely bought. Love the fabric picks for the picnic quilt and the new starberry quilt. ❤
I couldn't pass it up!
What a Serendipitous find in that quilt top. Your design, your fabrics. That would never happen to me! I agree...you had to take it home.
I'm surprised I found it!
I love Tilda too. And I have hoarded it as well…lol. But I have actually planned and executed several Tilda quilts. They make me happy once I make the first cut! 😂
They are pretty fabrics, aren't they!
Received my Strawberry fat quarter bundle and fabric yesterday and I have started cutting out 4 dearly loved patterns. Super excited! The reds are so vibrant and beautiful!
Have fun sewing with them!
@@CorianderQuilts I got all four finished. Now to get them quilted! I love them so much. Can you do one with a snowman pattern?
Thank you for the quilt pattern in the beautiful starberry fabrics. I’m waiting on my Wooly wall hanging kit and the Cuddle up Sampler kit. Love this Christmas line!!!
I love thrift shops and I love looking for hand made doilies. My favorite finds were small crocheted doilies with pansies around the edges. I love cross stitch items and if I was lucky enough to find a quilt top like yours, I would have to buy that!!
You are so welcome! I hope you are enjoying sewing with Starberry!
Great video. I like the hodge podge. I’m not a thrifter, not patient enough. You’re my Saturday treat.
Thank you so much for watching!
Yes, my eyes are definitely bigger than my time - especially this time of year! You look great, Corey, looks like you’ve been working out in the sun! Looking into getting Starberry fabric on line since I don’t have a local quilt shop!
I might need to start using that phrase..."my eyes are bigger than my time"...it fits, doesn't it! LOL =)
I understand about the fabric pulls! I have them all over the house!
They are fun to do, aren't they!
Aren't Tilda fabrics so pretty!..I really enjoy them. =)
That is a well used find!
Pepper & Flax will be beautiful in that quilt. =)
Yes!...I wish I knew the story behind it!
So cool that you found the quilt top. And it is beautiful work. Love getting your video notifications. Always exciting. Thanks Corey 💞
Thanks so much Lisa! I was so happy with that find...I couldn't leave it behind!
I looked at the free patterns on the Tilda website. The quilting put those quilts over the top!
Aren't they beautiful!
Love your blouse!! Love the gingham. I love surprises at thrift store!! Hope to do your mystery sew along in January. My favourite find was a travel antique iron still in the box. Thanks for video
What a fun find!
The thrift store find is awesome!!! It’s really cute. Thanks for the free pattern, you’re the best Corey!!!
You are so welcome!
I love your material. I like that you can mix and match. Can I buy just the plaids in a bundle? Your blouse is beautiful.
That's such a great find!
It looks like they did a great job putting the quilt top together
They did!
Those fabric pulls for star quilt beautiful
Thanks so much!
That's such a great find!
Wow can’t believe you found that quilt top it’s beautiful. Love your fabric pulls and your star quilt😊
It was such a fun find!
What an awesome find!!!! I would have bought it too.
I was excited to find it. =)
Love the free pattern! Great timing too since I have a Starberry FQ bundle on the way. Thank you Corey!
You're so welcome!...I hope you enjoy your FQ bundle!
Have a wonderful weekend, ladies
You as well!
That is awesome!...those good finds are so much fun. =)
Went to a thrift store and found a vintage tablecloth for a dollar . It was so heavy and the right colors for our cabin.
It's so fun when you find just the right thing!
I absolutely l o v e the green in Starberry!
Thank you so much!
Thank you for sharing your quilt fabric ideas. I love the picnic fabric pull! Thank you for the free pattern. Have a great week

Great video! I found a wonderful Grace Company hand quilting frame for $15! Love those great finds!
Wow!...that's a good one!
What a surprising find at the thrift store. Thank you for the free pattern as I just recieved my Starberry fabric yesterday, great timing. TFS.
It was such a fun find!
Lucky find. I buy most all garage sell quilt tops. I quilt and donate.
That's a great way to use them. =)
Love the picinic version!
I think it's so summery and pretty!
Happy you rescued the quilt and will finish it! I would love the pattern- is it still available?
Yes, the pattern is still available! I have it linked in the description box. =)
