Because one of the great things about nuzlockes is that they force you to think about and use Pokemon you might not have given a glance normally. Well, losing your A-team in a nuzlocke means you have to pick up the pieces with a buncha goobers from the box, which means you might now have to use Pokemon that normally wouldn't even be your 3rd or 4th choice!

No, Game Over is part of the dead Pokemon rules, you could say the player dies when it loses a battle, although the whole point of the Nuzlocke is being a personal challenge so you can just, continue it until no Pokemon are left or even revive some, no one is forcing rules.
There's something so poetic about showing up with the Shell of your previously last standing teammate, held up by the souls of all of those you lost prior, catching a god, then channeling all that wrath into dumpstering a league. Im sure if she looked into Shedinja's shell she'd just see all those she lost along the way
From what I know, the reason Sheer Cold managed to hit as frequently as it did was BECAUSE the team was underleveled. Sheer Cold's accuracy increases for every level higher the user is to the target. And since Walrein, Tentacruel and Manectric were 9 & 8 levels below it respectively, the odds of it hitting increased. Regardless, this run was amazing! Hopefully... Gen 4 is a pick-me-up. Though... That's all I'll say for time being :)
Yeah, this is it. If I recall correctly, the chance is 30+(each level higher than the target)%. So in that situation it was 39% and 38% chance. Yes, it's guaranteed hit at 70 levels above and it also ignores accuracy checks.

Sheer Cold is in a category of insta-kill moves where they have a chance of working [base 30% for Sheer Cold] and they increase their odds the greater the level difference is in favor of their user [so the 8-10 level difference means a plus 8-10% to Sheer Cold's accuracy].

Second, when the Fire Emblem games were first being ported over to the US, the devs would actually boost the odds of hits because western people don't understand how odds really work (for instance the 95% hit rate was boosted to being 99.99% because Americans feel that both odds are essentially the same). The statistics community has a rule that anything that has a 5% or greater chance of happening is considered an usual (ie normal) result (so the odds have to be less than 5% for statisticians to consider it a freak occurrence). She got the Shedinja legit for sure cause you can’t have it otherwise that there is an empty slot in your team, since she got it in box, she used it to capture Rayquaza as her encounter in Sky Pillar with repels through the tower, with the Master Ball and finished the league with Rayquaza. So, nothing says here that she lost the challenge at all + she’s definitely learned that Champion title from Hoenn.
Seeing someone enjoy Pokemon for the first time and hearing the joy in their voice not only sent me thru my childhood memories, it actually made me weil up in tears. I'm genuinely moved by being able to second hand witness someone walk the same journey that made me the person I am today. I miss being that young, and having the same reactions as the gf to what's happening on screen.

That tropius really had it’s hero moment. Like this guy tanked a 4x effective ice beam with just a sliver of health left and managed to hit through paralysis to one shot with solar beam. Winona was probably so proud of her tropius lol
Could have been interesting to have her first reaction to the double evolution + wonderguard + 1 HP of Shedinja, she must have been really confused seeing that for the 1sr time
I love how quickly she grew attached to her starter. That attachment for your pokemon is what Nuzlockes are all about, and it's amazing to see her reactions to both the new pokemon she's seeing as well as how quickly she's learning the techniques- stat boosting moves are something I still barely remember to use lol I'm actually really excited to see a Black or White one. It's a region with only new pokemon in the main story, and a great storyline I think she'd enjoy.
This pokemon series might just be my favorite on the whole platform. getting to see someone tackle all these challenges fresh out the gate is so much fun!

When Taryn lost Splash and called out his name, I started crying. The pain in her voice was so familiar to me. God, I've been there and felt so sad for her. Glad she has Nick to take her out for coffee/ice cream to help her. What a great couple you two are.

Still super unlucky that 3 out of 5 uses hit but not as unlikely as most would realize. I personally feel that if you guys intend to continue doing Nuzlockes like this it would probably be best to allow cheated in Rare Candies since it's pretty clear that Taryn doesn't want to grind (and I honestly don't blame her) and just implement level caps, where you can't level your team up higher than the next gym leader or last member of the Elite Four's highest leveled Pokemon. As an example, when prepping for Misty you could level your team up to the same level as her Starmie, or when prepping for the Kanto Elite Four you can level up to the same level as Lance's Dragonite. Great content as always, loved that ending.
When you were talking about all the hm moved, what I figured out is that nuzleaf is the only non-legendary Pokémon that can learn rock smash, strength, flash, and cut, so in my play though so I didn’t have to worry about those, I got a nuzleaf and taught it all that and I never had to worry about those hm moves
Oh boy this journey was a total rollercoaster of emotions: the excitement, the pain of losing Splash and the rest of the team, the revenge, and finally the victory. What a drill guys. It was such a fun experience ❤
I would almost give anything to play Pokémon Emerald for the first time again. My first ever Pokémon game was Ruby on a GBA emulator on my pc when I was 15. Am a Pokémon freak though from the age of 8 when it first aired on TV in South Africa and I still have my Tazo and TCG collection.
The chance that Sheer Cold hits is 30% plus the level difference (as long as the user is an equal or higher level) so it isn't 100% accurate until the user is at least 70 levels higher.
As a Sinnoh baby, I am so freaking excited how she'll handle Platinum. I already feel so bad for her with Cynthia looming around the corner, but also excited to see how much she'll love the new Pokemon in that generation.

My only gripe with Emerald is replacing Steven with Wallace as the Champion and then making another Water trainer to be the 8th Gym. There was literally no reason for this change and it does nothing to improve the game in any way. In fact, I think that aspect is a worse experience then in Ruby and Sapphire.

no, it did not make it thru the entire game. in fact the Nuzleaf died agaist a voltorb that used explosion. but the original nuzlock was a comics, and the Nuzleaf in question had the face of the caracter of Locke in the serie "lost". this end was tragic and to never forgeting him, the community named it "nuzlock". @@peshomighty5051

I personally feel that if you guys intend to continue doing Nuzlockes like this it would probably be best to allow cheated in Rare Candies since it's pretty clear that Taryn doesn't want to grind (and I honestly don't blame her) and just implement level caps, where you can't level your team up higher than the next gym leader or last member of the Elite Four's highest leveled Pokemon. As an example, when prepping for Misty you could level your team up to the same level as her Starmie, or when prepping for the Kanto Elite Four you can level up to the same level as Lance's Dragonite.

When you were talking about all the hm moved, what I figured out is that nuzleaf is the only non-legendary Pokémon that can learn rock smash, strength, flash, and cut, so in my play though so I didn’t have to worry about those, I got a nuzleaf and taught it all that and I never had to worry about those hm moves
Oh boy this journey was a total rollercoaster of emotions: the excitement, the pain of losing Splash and the rest of the team, the revenge, and finally the victory. What a drill guys. It was such a fun experience ❤
I would almost give anything to play Pokémon Emerald for the first time again. My first ever Pokémon game was Ruby on a GBA emulator on my pc when I was 15. Am a Pokémon freak though from the age of 8 when it first aired on TV in South Africa and I still have my Tazo and TCG collection.

Yes they do. All OHKOs have 100 accuracy if you're underleveled.
Not entirely true, because she was about 10 ish levels lower than the Walrein, the chances were closer to 40%
The chance that Sheer Cold hits is 30% plus the level difference (as long as the user is an equal or higher level) so it isn't 100% accurate until the user is at least 70 levels higher.

That loss of your starter was extremely painful to watch. It was so close to leveling up that if it did not faint, it might have evolved into Swampert at the end of the battle.
This series is awesome. It is pretty rare nowadays to have a well-paced and charismatic first playthrough of the mainline games. Great content, and I look forward to the next entries in this series!

My only gripe with Emerald is replacing Steven with Wallace as the Champion and then making another Water trainer to be the 8th Gym. There was literally no reason for this change and it does nothing to improve the game in any way. In fact, I think that aspect is a worse experience then in Ruby and Sapphire.

no, it did not make it thru the entire game. in fact the Nuzleaf died agaist a voltorb that used explosion. but the original nuzlock was a comics, and the Nuzleaf in question had the face of the caracter of Locke in the serie "lost". this end was tragic and to never forgeting him, the community named it "nuzlock". @@peshomighty5051

The rock music as she goes with just a Shedinja and Rayquaza into the E4 was hype as all heck. o7s in the chat for the loss to Wallace, but that was some epic revenge.
The fact that she used pokemon that still went alongside the rules of the nuzlocke with only 2 pokemon just to see the credits roll is kind of a boss move.
She may not have won with her original team but man, she's still a champion

I'm so happy to see another Shedinja going into the wallace fight, in my most recent playthrough of emerald , where i finally use nicknames for my pokemon, my shedinja named buzz buzz, accidentally swept wallace using swords dance, double team, shadow ball and fury swipes. Thank you for using cold brew in your run.
