@@juneyshu6197 Medicare will only pay for 190 days in a nursing facility for life (what I was told by them). The rest is up to patient or family. I’m not sure about these people’s situations but I’ve had to look into it for my mom recently.
Even these anchors are referring to them as kids. They're adults in middle ages.

The dad took Mrs. Murray out of the nursing home because they were going to have to sell their home to cover her expenses. America. He dies and leaves her care to two cognitively disabled children who were raised in a dirty home. They would have been rendered homeless if she was sent back to the nursing home. Dad’s desperation led to this tragedy. These “adults” are steeped in chaos and appear to be cognitively and mentally disabled. I’m betting their mental health will be centered later in the trial. I’m sure dad thought he’d outlive mom. These two even look physically child like instead of in their 40s. This is a tragic.
and I have just one thing to add to your great summary - who is behind these kids being arrested 2 years after her death?, & if these witnesses saw nothing wrong with the care, at the time, then how would these kids, who are not in the medical field, be expected to know what was wrong. This case is a travesty to true justice.
He died after his wife
@@lindaaitken7679 not according to the various testimonies
The husband was still alive when she was taken to the hospital. He didn’t pass away for a few months after his wife passed away.
If his wife stayed in the nursing home, her entire Social security check would have been taken to pay the nursing home. Which I’m sure is why the Husband took her home. The husband was the primary care giver to his wife. I’m not sure how much these two were involved with her care. But the husband died and the State only has these two left to charge. Since they lived in the house. If we’re talking about how much they should have known? I don’t believe they have reasonable brain function to begin with!
Omg I thought they were teenagers , wow in their forties.
They look like they can't take care of themselves let alone
I’m wondering if they were even competent? Something g is definitely not right with them.
Yes! They are mentally challenged. No one of sound mind would do this to another human being, let alone their own mother. 😢😢😢
I feel the same way. Something seems “off” with both of them. Have they been assessed?
This is what I’m observing myself. I think this may be classic of the Dept of human Services bc the investigation started when SM went to the hospital. Dept of human services had been visiting the home all along?! Strange that they didn’t remove Sheila from the home and order a psych assessment of the bro & sis based on the living conditions. DOHS may be covering themselves for the role they played in all of this.

The sister who didn’t live there and visited her mother in February should be held accountable too. She saw her mother in those filthy conditions and she went on about her business. Cold hearted so called daughter!
Exactly she could’ve help clean the house up and spent more time caring for her mother while visiting

These siblings do NOT look like they could have even taken care of themselves. 1st degree murder? Come on.
They are of color, are you really surprised at the charges????..... If they have to charge them then charge them with manslaughter
Yes. It’s excessive. They seem mentally unwell.
EMT’s are not paid nearly enough

There is no God in people's lives today. That is why the world is in the sad shape it is in.😢
Prior to becoming a nurse practitioner, I was a registered nurse and worked in home care for many years. Caring for patients like the victim is not easy. They are full care and require skilled nursing or at the very least a qualified home health aid. I came across so many elderly patients who were neglected because families didn’t have the funds to hire care and they, themselves were not qualified to provide such care. Moving the patients every 2 hours, massaging their muscles, moving their joints, moisturizing their skin, feeding them, providing proper hygiene. It’s not easy and it is a lot to do on a daily basis. Insurance companies should pay for this type of care but they don’t, you have to pay for a separate policy if you want this type of care. Unless a patients condition is so bad that it requires medical attention, your out of luck. What this poor woman went through is horrible. Our country needs to get our healthcare situation straight.
Sadly in half the nursing homes they DNT get skin care or muscle movement. They r lucky to get regular diaper changes
@@shellyanders8950 So so sad....:(
Patient neglect is rampant in nursing homes and hospitals where insurance companies and sometimes private paying patients are billed for thousands of dollars per month. My grandmother paid over $10,000 per month in a nursing home.

I'm not sure if they had health insurance that would cover that kind of care. In the country where I am, we have "free health care" yet still have to pay out of pocket for a lot of services, like elder care.
They would have to know to visit. The daughter should have reported the living conditions, so she's just as responsible as her mentally incompetence siblings. I'm certain she cashed in off of her parents' deaths, though.

Omg…. This poor woman was living in unimaginable agony. My heart breaks for her.💔
I know it’s just sad
THIS DOESN’T SEEM RIGHT!
It seems that the father neglected his wife, and when he died the two siblings continued to neglect their mother. My degrees are in psychology, and from the way that the two siblings appear they appear to be undeveloped, and they might have mental disorders. Karen Murray doesn’t appear 49, and Michael Murray doesn’t appear 43. They should have had psychological evaluations and IQ tests, before being charged with first degree murder, because they do not appear cognitively able to take care of themselves. Hopefully, their lawyers will appeal the verdict, and get them evaluated.
The father died after the mother three months later
If they proceeded with trial then they were most likely assessed. I am sure their lawyer asked for it
The father was alive when she died. He died afterwards.
This what I said even being nasty came from the mom herself because the older daughter said the house was always nasty so that’s how they grew up
these two were confined to the house having to take care of their elderly father & bedridden mother, and you can see the toll it took on them.
the middle sister left the house, went to college, had the freedom to live her life happily and you can see the extreme contrast in wellness/ mental health between her & the 2 siblings.
Exactly. And it's really interesting that the sister that left never fully checked on her mom. She seems to be more intelligent than her younger siblings, so why didn't she check on her mom!!??
@@andreamoore7002 just atrocious. “She had a sheet pulled all the way up” as if the smell of rotting flesh and feces wouldn’t be enough to call someone for help. She could have even called anonymously if she wanted to, and if the defense was competent they would have pressed her on this bs. The fact is, she wanted nothing to do with them and didn’t give af because nothing would have stopped me from getting help for ANYONE in those conditions, let alone if it was my own mother! Makes it difficult to believe the middle sibling who testified didnt notice a thing wrong when she came to visit. Seems she just didn't want to be bothered with it. 😢
that sounds about right
That poor Woman had suffered greatly. I sincerely pray that She is Resting in Peace.
The part that hurts me the most is that she had to see the kids that she raised do this while she couldn’t do anything for however long it was.
This makes me want to know everything about their childhoods and upbringing. What happened? What led them to this? Are they intellectually disabled? Very curious to understand why.
I'm thinking, (coming into this absolutely blind) upon just looking at the brother and sister, they do look very intellectually challenged. I'd like to know what their education is and if there is any specific developmental issues on their parts. Certainly too whether there is mental illness as well. Perhaps they really didn't know how to care physically for someone on a day to day basis. They don't appear to look like they can care for their own hygiene to normal standards.
DOESNT MATTER...THEY FAILED THEIR MOTHER...they completely ignored her for weeks preadmission to hospital!!!
The dad was there too. He took care of her with the help of the "kids". I believe this is a case of severe neglect rather than deliberate abuse. The other sibling (living out of town) thought so too and she should have called adult services for her mom.

I hate that they were put in the position to have to take care of their mom by their dad. It was a poor decision on his part, and it ended up causing their poor mom to fall victim to their incompetencies so yes, it is sad, because these children were forced to take care of their mom, by their dad, and they didn't have a clue how to do that. You noticed their sister keep saying she "believed they did the best they could" She knew full well they're developmentally disabled and incapable of taking care of her. She had a responsibility as well; she was her mom too. She was too large for them to handle her to do what needed to be done. At bare minimum the other sister should've contacted Social Services to override her dad and his stubbornness to get her the care she needed. What's sad are the extent of the charges, Neglect sure, I can understand but I don't believe they murdered their mom. The harsh charges are given to the poor and black people. If it were wealthy white people, that chose to care for the mom at home and this happened we wouldn't be seeing this trial.
Maybe she was a crappy mother. Sometimes the chickens come home to roost.

The neglect started with started with him because he didnt want to lose her money .
The system has failed completely here. First, the father or husband refuses help from the other and only healthy daughter. The dad was the only one here with legal authority over his wife, not the said children. Why was not health care offered? Where were home services with a nurse coming daily. Where were the doctors to put home care in place from the beginning? Where were social services? The system failed here, and the family should be using not being charged for allowing mentally ill adults to care for their mother when they clearly can not care for themselves
Who in their right mind thought this sister and brother could be responsible for the care of their mother? I place some of the blame on the older sibling and the Nurse Practitioner. If we had proper health care in this country that women would have had proper care and her kids would have been in assisted living.
Under those circumstances, yes, society would be the failure.
And who is going to foot this bill? These two" mentally disabled" adults are already riding free.
There is free healthcare! If you can’t afford care as the elderly woman could not government healthcare would have paid for her to be in a nursing home facility. But there are some horrible requirements, such as you can’t have a savings account or own a home. It’s so wrong about the requirements!!

And the doctors would give my grandma prescriptions and we go pick them up. She had her potty chair and her walker next to her bed and someone would be next to her so she wouldn't fall. We took care of our grandma. And plus I was my mom home provider also. . Then she wanted to go into the nursing home and we had cameras in her room. And every weekend we would bring my mom home for the weekends. It was hard work but we love our mother and grandma. We took good care of them both.

These are GROWN Adults and yes they are the kids of the Victim
Chronologically yes. They both appear to be cognitively impaired. The question becomes who truly thought they were competent to care for her? How did medical
Professionals leave her in that hovel? These two are sadly, not even capable of caring for themselves appropriately.
I have a feeling jail might be the only place they have to go. What does that say about our healthcare system. There's issues way beyond this case. 😢
If they didn’t know they was doing wrong then why did they cancel the nurses visit?
Exactly 💯
Yep. And I find it difficult to believe the middle sibling who testified didn't notice a thing wrong when she came to visit. I don't believe that one bit. 😢
@@mommyof3_908 Exactly 💯💯💯
The father probably thought he had to pay for the services. Some people don't know about seeking health care for there loved ones. The nurses should have reported the problem and got a case worker to assist. Lack of knowledge plays a huge part in this.
@@sentenmad69 I was always told, ignorance is dangerous.
At some point of her life she had children, how did she get this way, just curious? I wonder what type of mom she was and the mentality of her children?
Right!!!!
How can they step in and make changes if they’re delayed? They are slooooow. They do not get it. They needed a non delayed person to be in charge of them, to be their advocate. They did not do this intentionally or to hurt their mother (In my opinion). They just don’t understand. They don’t need to be jailed, they need help. AND STOP CALLING THEM PITIFUL! That is so ignorant! 😡
Rubbish...they chose to leave her to rot...they didnt feed her, she was skin n bone...she had zero care for weeks n weeks. Her breast was squished under her right arm....thats weeks of not moving... its indefencable the state this poor woman was in...dried vomit on her tshirt!!! Dried mouldy feacal matter... thats disgusting!!! They should never have had the care of this poor woman...the dad died...3 months post the mothers death in hospital, so the care was up to these two adults...NOT KIDS!!!!! They allowed her to die in horror conditions...how did she get the compound ankle fracture??? so many injuries from lack of care...they both deserve life and lessons on how to live hygienically...ie have a shower daily.
The dad was there too. He took care of her with the help of the "kids". I believe this is a case of severe neglect rather than deliberate abuse. The other sibling (living out of town) thought so too and she should have called adult services for her mom.
They understood to spend her money now didn't they??A ten yr old could see she needed help so stop with the excuses. I haven't heard anything that they are both mentally disabled.
They know right from wrong
@@chetyoubetya8565exactly! They were competent enough to call 911, to cancel the mother’s appointments, and to clean themselves. There’s no documentation on any sort of delay
It's tragic all around. They look like adults but clearly have learning, and cognitive issues that put them probably at the age of a kid under 10 years old Have they been accessed by educational psychologists and other professionals to determine their mental capacity? It appears the Father ruled the roost. Why didn't the other family member alert the appropriate authorities? A duty of care falls to everyone to report if they witness or suspect neglect of a vulnerable adult. I think this family has struggled for a long time before this happened.
The system and the sister neglected this woman. These kids are well into their 40s and look childlike, which says a lot about their state of mind. They never were to be responsible for someone else , let alone someone that’s completely immobile .
People need to know that if they are overwhelmed by an ill persons care, call Department of Social and health services to assist in getting your parent an assisted living situation so professionals can take care of her/him! It's hard for anyone so please ask for help!!
"They weren't taught proper hygiene"! LIE!!! They knew enough to state to the EMS that they were "doing the best they can", because they knew it was bad in that house...they knew! Also, when you defecate, vomit and urinate, you know to clean it up! When a bone is broken and sticking out of the skin you know to get help soon as possible. Their poor mother!!! They knew!!!
That was the FATHER, her retired police officer HUSBAND who said that. And obviously he said that bc he knew DAMN WELL that she wasnt being cared for at ALL. And he continuously insisted on handling her care. Took her out of the nursing home, refused to let the middle daughter take her to her home, yea. He was her carer, likely bc these adult kids couldnt care for her let alone themselves. And every one in that family knew it. It's just sad that these two who look completely mentally disabled are the ones to take the full blame, and not the main care giver husband or the well educated, mentally stable middle child.
@@meganyoung. That was never determined that they were mentally challenged or disabled!
@@meganyoung. that was all of them. Not just the father. Give me a break.

Why don’t you go handle the case since you seem to be qualified…as a YT user.
Absolutely shameful! Even the sister that moved away! How could they do this to their MOTHER!?!? 😢
Why wasn't in home health care workers involved? Hospitals are very good at connecting these services when a patient is not able to care for themselves, even offering help to family care providers!
They actually aren't. And you usually have to pay for it yourself and most people don't want to pay. Either the elderly person doesn't want to pay or in this case the kids probably didn't want to pay
@@shannonrusso3853actually, due to her age, she was receiving Social Security and Medicare. Medicare does pay for several hours per week of home health care and housekeeping services!
The system is broken. Very little help, very expensive.
I work in mental health and it is just insanely difficult to coordinate for home healthcare (among every other type of medical care!). Sometimes insurance denies it even when the person is disabled physically or mentally and unable to work. It is so bad. And hospitals don't often help, you have to do forms and interviews and contact the right places to get any of these services. It is hard for anyone, let alone someone with disabilities and limited resources, to get these done. I have had people that are extremely disabled and they still get denied. Also lack of funding and lack of staff because they/we aren't getting paid enough.
@@emmarie2930That is not always true. My best friend was able to get her sister in a home quickly but she put in the work to do so. Visiting the homes and seeking out help. She also did not pay , the state pays through the medical. You just have to put in the work to look. Likely these siblings wanted moms money and Did not want her sent to a home .
This case is making me so furious. You can tell those two have lost so much weight from being in jail, you can CLEARLY tell they’re not mentally there. The father died & left his TWO ADULT mentally challenged children to take care of their bound mother. And they’re on trial for murder?!???? Facing LIFE?! ARE YOU GUYS PSYCHOTIC???!? And I’m sure the middle sister knew of the severity of her siblings and the living conditions! Because she left home the minute she could! And barely visited.
Thank you Mr Shelton for your Service. This had to be so difficult for you to observe . May you be truly blessed.
Court TV. You lost me on this. There are just bits and pieces of testimony and “breaks” in the middle. Some of us prefer to simply watch the trial.
This is the most insane charge I've ever heard of. The dad had power of attorney and kept her out of a care home and his kids need services just as bad. There was nothing intentionally done to this woman by her kids but the oldman wasn't trying to make life easy for anyone. These 2 kids should have never been put into such a serious situation. The dad and Sonya are so far above everyone else they couldn't be bothered to see anything got done and Sonya seems to be so educated why couldn't she use her brain to figure out what needed to be done to fix this situation. Why didn't the services for people have any knowledge of this situation? The dad should have been in court and telling the judge why he's letting this to go on. Neither of them could have taken care of a 3 yr old much less a person who is in bad health and cant do anything to help herself. The DA must be insane and the grand jury. They need a real lawyer that knows his job. This was forced on them and someone needs to address their mental conditions before they go charging people with first degree murder. Makes no sense. It just makes me sick. It feels like the old south again. If the people were white the first thing that the lawyer's would do is have them examined by several different Dr's. And I'm white and I get that bad vibe, I'm sure I'm not the only one. Be it black or white or any race. I wouldn't be wanting a good lawer and these ridiculous charges dropped if I thought something was up with the brother and sister. I would be wishing them the very worst outcome but not in this situation. This is cruel and ridiculous that they are put through this. Why didn't dad and Sonya report the neglect? Because they might have to get their hands dirty and we can't have that now, can we? This is so insane, no charges for the dad or Sonya but overkill on the siblings. First degree murder? I know what first degree involves and this isn't that!
But you can know someone committed 1st degree murder and the court will dance around actually charging someone for it. And these babys being murdered and the parents barely get anything close to what they deserve. Ass backward system if there has ever been one.
As a retired clinical social psychologist coming from Dublin Eire, I am shocked first by the moms condition as outlined in opening statement if true. However, I am also flabbergasted to realise that this brother and sister have been declared fit to stand trial. Looking at their basic demeanor, they both appear to be suffering from some form of mental disability. Surly social care team dealing with elderly visit to check their suitability to care for their eldery parents? Was the family home assessed to be clean and have suitable home facilities?
Have ambulance/fire staff report to the hospital or alert police or social workers of the state to the appalling living conditions before the father dying?
Have prosecutors legally assessed are this brother and sister competent to stand trial?
Will the social workers or psychologist of this brother and sister be called to give evidence?
Where is the responsibility of the elderly care team from the hospital or the state, have these services been involved with the family before this tragic death. Have social workers been involved with the family before parents deaths? If so what is their responsibility here?
So so sad case for all

To me, the old man acknowledged that he knew it was bad when he said they were doing the best they could, which they weren’t because it doesn’t take a to change a person, give them a sponge bath, call an ambulance when there’s a BONE sticking out
Didn’t they call the ambulance so they did get help. It’s horrible! Poor woman but her kids were way in over their head. Don’t think they were too smart.

The brother and sister are disgusting treating their mother this way🤬🤬
They are not all there!!!!!!
it's shocking and i don't excuse her kids, but why is a recovering stroke patient not being cared for by nurses. our health system is so broken that this is the result. poor families are forced to care for their loved ones even though they may have no clue how to do that. things spiral out of control (bedsores, infections, etc) and then the family members become afraid that they will get into trouble, so they don't call 911.
The victims husband was a retired police officer and had the final say on family matters. The victim never worked. The husband said she was going home to be cared for after first stroke. These 2 were not capable of caring for their mother. I believe the husband should have been the one charged but sadly, he passed away before charges could be filed.
They weren't poor at all they owned their own house and the father was a police officer until he retired.
In 2016, my Mom was in nursing home and the cost was $ 8,250 per month. She had the money to pay. For Medicaid to take over payments you have to give up your house to Medicaid. If your spouse is still living they get to stay in the house until they move out or pass away. Then the kids would have no place to stay. It is sad that in this country you work hard and buy a house, finally get it paid off and then later need a nursing home that you lose your house and can't pass it down to your children. Canada and Europe take care of the elderly and there is no charge.
It is obvious to me that Karen and Michael have some mental delays or appear autistic and were never fit to care for their mother let alone themselves. Because nurses aids visited the home, some one at some point found it necessary for the mother to receive inhome care. Saying that, one can't ignore the fact that these nurses were not reporting the conditions of the home nor the mother. Or maybe they did, and the hospital or doctor ignored them. Neglect should fall on the medical professionals.
I notice quite a few comments about how awful the kids are for doing this to their Mother because they are grown children. There is no way that the son looks like he is 40. There is definitely something wrong here. They also don’t look like a full shilling. I heard the sister from another county testify and she seems the only child that is normal(don’t mean to offend anyone). She tried to intervene and her Father would not have it. Why are the children on trial if they were schooled by the Father? To me it sounds as if they knew no difference.
Some of these calls NEVER leave us.
Thank you for your service! Unimaginable!
Oh my gosh! That poor woman! Her children are just sickening.
