    • @waterfordrs22
      @waterfordrs22 6 років тому +6

      Team Hansen Honda it is a perfectly fine video. I think the main reason for giving s video a thumb up or down is that it tweaks UA-cam's algorithm to a person's personal preferences.
      Chances are, they aren't trying to make a statement..... they are just telling UA-cam what they want more or less of.
      UA-cam manipulates people into it being a kind of popularity contest and no doubt they keep track of things to show to advertisers, but it's not about approval so much

    I was fortunate to grow up near Watkins Glen. I remember seeing the Chaparral 2 cars of Jim Hall & Hap Sharp in (I think) 1965 65 & 66 - nothing could touch them at the time. later, I saw the 2J vacuum cleaner with Jim Clark in 1969, although it DNF. But the most spectacular by far were the M8 McLaren's in 1970! As they came into the back turn after hitting 180+ on the front straight, I always got the impression that the drivers were just barely in control of those beasts! Absolutely magnificent! Everything these days is exceedingly dull by comparison! Thanks for these videos - really brings back memories!

      In my view America has some of the best road racing tracks in the world. They’re very hilly and fast sweeping corners abound. There are so many good tracks f1 could race here, road America being one, but they do and build a brand new “modernized” track in fucking Texas...

    • @declanrex9435
      @declanrex9435 3 роки тому

      @@bavingeter423 I'm so glad we don't have many "modern" aka boring circuits in America. As much as I'm a fan of vintage racing, I still watch and enjoy modern racing, the cars don't bother me but my god the tracks do. If anything has gotten worse in motorsport over the last 50 years it's the tracks. I'm all for driver safety but if it's a safe track with runoffs and good facilities, what damage has some elevation change ever done. All of these Tilke f1 tracks are just giant Go-Kart tracks.

    • @flugplatz21
      @flugplatz21 3 роки тому

      @@declanrex9435 FIA Tilke, reducing radius, hairpin, chicane-fest tracks are the worst! And with high downforce, dirty air cars on them, it's terrible racing. Not the fastest, but the best action, is at your local track, if you're lucky enough to have one. More gentlemanly driving, because the drivers actually own the cars, and they're your neighbors. I haven't watched much Indycar lately, but every F1 guy that goes over says it's a better racing experience. I should catch up on it, but, Man! Are those cars UGLY! They look a little better now, but a few years ago they were hideous.

      @@miichaelneri4687 No it hasn’t. The guys who are fast now would have been fast then. If anything, it’s a slightly different skill. Back then, drivers didn’t have to put up with the same forces and accelerations they do today. Cars are more nervous and less progressive. Reaction times are ridiculously short, compared to back then.
      The common perception that ‘driver aids do everything today’ is wrong. Other than paddle shifting and some very limited traction comtrol, there’s very little else.

    I spent many a summer weekend at Road America in Elkhart Lake, Wi. The Can-Am races were always my favorite, the big iron ya know, and the big name drivers. The Trans-Am races were cool as well with 'Stangs, 'Vettes, Camaros, Porshes etc....even a couple of late model Corvairs that did extremely well. Yenko Stingers were the hot Chevys at the time...Ford had Shelby hopping up their cars. $17.00 bucks for the weekend ticket for the Can-Am and Trans-Am races, $13.00 for June Sprints. Got to drive the course twice...one year when Corvettes were the featured car and one year when Corvairs were featured. They would feature a certain car for the weekend and ANYBODY who owned that type of car could drive a parade lap behind a pace car...then they would let you have one lap without pace car...much higher speeds but no real racing...then exit via pit road on 2nd lap. Great times...

    To continue my bit of racing history, I painted a Mk 8D like Oscar's car that had the slot car track painted on it. I took all the team cars in for test-n-tune a few days after the last Regional race we were in. Mrs Hubble had Oscar himself standing there waiting for me, knowing I always showed up on that day & time for test-n-tune. before the local races. He was all smiles to see the accuracy of the color & paint scheme. He's still one of my idols. That was also the day she gave me all the awards I had coming from the previous regional race. Right there in front of Oscar. Oh yeah!

    This is Oscar's old car. Fans of Auto World should recognize it. I believe that Oscar ran a big block in it most of the time though. A friend of mine, Dick Durant, had an M8C that he raced. He also set an altitude and distance record at 3:49 when he went off course and took out a couple of Pontiacs. I don't remember which car he was in when he did that.

    Mark Donahue set a lap record of 1:57 and change in 1973 at this track in his 917-K30. These drivers are not far off the original times of that time. It took 14 years before the record was broken by an Indy car.
    Best event RA has. I was able to see the late great Denny Hulme guest drive Can Am cars at RA, what a show. One event I think he was driving a Shadow he spun the tires out of turn five at least 100 feet while making a pass on a McClaren. The noise and Torque of these machines are unmatched in road racing.

      The Can Am series was my favorite also. Last one I saw was Riverside in ‘72 .... at the start Mark Donahue got a good quick start ... And Denny Hulme gave Mark the finger. These cars are now almost half a century old. Amazing! However, racing has recovered the pace of yesteryear. Donahue did 1:57:57 with the 917/30 ... but today the IMSA GTLM class saw the Porsche and Corvette teams running both at 2:00:57 .... just 3 seconds off of Donahue’s 917/30 best time. The DPI pole position in this race 2020 Road America was 1:49:06 .... that is more than 8 seconds faster than the Porsche 917/30 Can Am car record performance. Good series to watch even though they do restrict the GTLM class too much !!
