- Today I’m testing out my first copycat recipe, Wendy’s Frosty. Only 3 ingredients and simple to made. But does it taste like a Frosty? Watch and find out.

The flavor it was missing was malted milk. That’s one of my favorite things about the frosty, the chocolate malt flavor.

Yes watching these demos no one adds the malt flavor and the Frosty definitely has malt added to it.

When I'm in a rare mood, I have definitely made the vanilla ice cream-Nestle's Quik-milk type shakes at home. Works for me. Riddle: the same thing mom had two of, grandma had one of, but dad and grandpa had none.

I make them in an ice cream freezer. Same ingredients a quart of chocolate milk, cool whip and sweet condensed milk. After reading another comment, maybe I should add some malt powder.
Thank you for being honest! I saw another video with this exact recipe and they were overly exaggerating how it tastes just like a real frosty. I was thinking that can’t be true cause a frosty has a malted flavor. So I bought Carnation malt powder in regular and chocolate. I’m going to try both and see if either of them adds that missing flavor! Now I feel more confident about my decision to add the powder. At first I was nervous cause I didn’t want to ruin it.

I agree with some of the other posters, it's vanilla that needs to go in and I also noticed that the Wendy's one is "creamier", probably 'cause they put cream.....
BUT, what I really wanna know is..... what are ya gonna do with this rest of that can of sweetened condensed milk, since ya only used a Tablespoon? LOL

Do love those frostys. You're right that it is thicker than a shake but thinner than soft serve. As a young kid I grew up in Youngstown Ohio. There was a department store downtown that had something very similar that was located in the store's basement floor.. They (the store) called it a malt. It came in a clear glass, similar to a restaurant water glass and a metal spoon. You ate it there and returned the glass to the counter. This was in the late 1950's and early 60's. Good memories. To enhance that chocolatey flavor just add some dutch processed cocoa powder
Frosty with fries the best, i would do that in high school with the shakes and fries
I make these all of the time.. I've tried the recipes online & they never taste like Wendy's. I use Breyers Vanilla Bean ice cream, cool whip, Chocolate Malt Ovaltine, & 2-3 frozen chocolate malt ovaltine milk cubes (for the texture). I don't measure anything but basically use like 1- 1.5 C icecream, 3/4C cool whip, 3T Ovaltine, frozen choc milk ... makes 1 big shake.. This tastes about as close as you're gonna get! Since I don't measure, just play around with the ingredients..you'll get it!

There are some things I can no longer eat because I found out what was in them... like when I found out my favorite carrot cake had 2 cups of oil in it!!! It ruined it for me... lol I do love Wendy’s chili and little Debbie oatmeal creme pies...

2 TBsp of condensed milk
1 1/2 of heavy cream or Cool whip
6 Tablespoons of cocoa powder
How many people are saying malt flavoring - I don't recall it tasting like that at all. And I love malt.

I think doing copy recipes is a good idea for your channel. My closest wendy's is a 45 minute drive. I once dated a girl who took a pt job at wendy's and I told her about dipping the fries in the frosty. She thought I was crazy. A few days later I found an empty frosty cup and a empty box of fries in her car. I just laughed to myself. Good memories

Wendy's also adds a touch of vanilla to the chocolate which gives it a better flavor.
You need to freeze the milk in your tiny ice making cup. With a better blender freezing the whipped cream might help with the texture. Stay safe out there.

How about using more of the actual ingredients in a Frosty (excluding the chemical/stabilizer types of things)?
What are the ingredients in Wendy's Frosty?
Water, Sugar, Powdered MILK, Sunflower Creamer [Sunflower Oil, Maltodextrin, MILK Protein, Emulsifier (E471), Antioxidant (E306)], Whey (MILK), Cocoa Powder (3.7%), Stabiliser (E412), Flavouring (Flavouring, Dextrose), Carrageenan [Stabiliser (E407), Dextrin], Stabiliser (E415).
So like water and powdered milk to make the milk, maybe some real milk or cream, sugar, cocoa, probably vanilla and a smidge of salt. Not sure about the sunflower oil. I've seen a recipe that uses only Fair Life (it's an alternative choc. milk, I think). I've never tasted it, so I'm not sure about that one.
I wonder if you add a little chocolate syrup or malt powder (If that's a thing) and mix it in if it would make a difference......And I eat my frosty with fries too.....Lol

Too bad it isn't a great dupe. I know the Frosty is chocolate flavor, but I wonder if a little vanilla extract could be the missing ingredient. Like you noted the Frosty isn't overly chocolatey and when you were making it vanilla popped into my head. I could be totally off on that though, just a thought. Have a great week!

The letter m... I’d still love you to redo Eric’s mayo grilled cheese experiment... there are so many copy cat recipes... I’ve tried many that taste really good... but not really like actual item... especially for reeses peanut butter cups...

Now i have always wondered my self as to what was in a frosty. What i would like is is a copy cat Cathy any luck getting one of those? I dont know the only thing i can think of is red lobsters butter bums or biscuits or whatever they are. Oh i know what you can try try the KFC coleslaw

"People" say the Ninja blender (the big one) is a great vitamix competitor. Fwiw. Nothing beats a frosty! Love the keychain token for free frosties for a year!

I have my mom's BlendTec- less well known, but I think it's an equal to the VitaMix.
FYI: Harris Teeter grocery store supplies the Chocolate Mix for Frostys. Their store brand chocolate milk taste just like it. Might want to try them below is the confirmation link. hunterfarms.com/about-us#/app/cms

Cathy I just went to Todd Wilbur's website who does copycat recipes. This is his..1/2 cup milk, 4 teaspoons Nestle's Quik, and 2 cups vanilla ice cream. The reviews were really good. 4.4 out of 5 stars.
If I could sit in the restaurant eating fries and sipping a Frosty, I think dipping could be worth a try.
I think the brand of vanilla ice cream would really change the flavor.

Just curious...have you tried making ice cream in a bag? I really want to know if it works. As for copycat recipes, I wish I could find a fish filet like McDonalds. Btw, Nestle's Quik, milk, and vanilla ice cream was the milkshake I grew up drinking. My dad made them nice and thick!

Probably the only thing I crave from Wendy's is their Frosty dessert, I'm not even an ice cream/soft serve/shake person. A small sized Wendy's Frosty is the perfect sized treat in a pinch IMO :-)

this recipe was wrong, it's 1/2 gal whole chocolate milk, cool whip 8 oz container, 1 can condensed milk, mix all ingredients together....... we use an ice ream maker for ours,
and it comes out perfect taste and all.

The mystery flavor must be vanilla extract. It always makes chocolate taste better. I wonder if vanilla ice cream and Hershey’s syrup would make it taste more like a frosty. Too much work. Rather go to Wendy’s
