My son passed away this last year november 9 2019 and this album is in his vinyl collection. It reminds me of him. I dream him sometimes and have asked him in a dream are you real? He always responds of course i am i hug him and then he dissapears. He always feels so real. This song always comforts me.
Songs like this remind us that we are more than simple flesh. We have the power to convey not just our emotions, but our very thoughts through music and language. That is the surest sign that magic exists. This song was originally written by Roky Ericson. a musical genius with schizophrenia. Music was how he dealt with the madness still threatens to over take him. His music resonates with the fear and the euphoria gained from each narrow victory against his pain.
Ghost is such a magnificent blend of smooth to the ears, yet still heavy. They truly pay just tribute to their influences.. they're so great at it, they're actually convincing they came from the same era as most of them.
I love songs that somehow work for the fandom, I mean the lyrics sound like it talking to us (the weird, the lonely and the hopeless) is like Ghost was telling us that they are here for us 😊
Ghost fills a void so many of us have. Whatever your pain is, Ghost is the best medicine. They have lifted me out of depression, given me something to delight in, disintegrated the religious dogma I was raised with, and freed me from fear. They are spreading love and acceptance and making people feel like they’re in on the secret to liberation. Embracing Ghost has changed my life. Eternally.
It's brilliant how Tobias says Ghost (and not Ghosts) in the first line of the chorus, subconsciously stating that if you have Ghost (the band), you have everything. What a musical genius... Certainly one of the best covers ever made...
@@deeingalaplike it's obvious for us, but the title of this yt video we're commenting both is '"If you have Ghosts" and the lyrics posted in this thread states the same... So, not sure everyone got it.
This band really have a fantastic sensibility for melody and they are just fantastic musicians all round. Just listen to the guitar solo, not at all contrived in any way. As James Hetfield said, they are a breath of fresh air in the stale world of rock and metal these days.
My problem is that their image kinda misrepresents their music. It makes them look like the typical Slipknot-ish antimelodic band that just screams and smashes the instruments. It makes them look very hardcore when they are more about melody.
DarthUno Who cares? I think the fact that their image is tongue-in-cheek satanic, adds a unique dimension to their melodic music. It adds a sinister edge to it. They are too sinister to be pop or rock, yet they are too melodic to be brutal metal. What were merciful fate or king diamond then? Their music was
Grimeyhoob Actually, a lot of people, including me think that their image gets in the way of their softer music. I never said they are bad, though. They're talented guys.
Grimeyhoob Hey, I never said my opinion was more important than anyone else's, just remember that logic goes both ways. Actually, the image is half the band. Do you even know what you're talking about? Without an image all band would suck live, and they wouldn't attract any attention. What I'm saying is the image, which is what you notice first, gives a completely different impression than the music itself. That takes time getting used to, and I think it's a terrible move and that it gets in the way of their music. I'm not saying that they're a bad band, it's just that both me, and lots of other people, don't like them for that reason. If you DO like the fact that their image and music is way different, that's completely fine. Also, it's funny that James Hetfield said "they're a breath of fresh air" when Metallica is doing nothing but the same shit over and over, even when every single album that's come out since the 90's has utterly flopped.
Strange, couldn't help think that this would be a great song for Foo Fighters to cover... Then I notice a certain Mr Grohl produced this album. What a world.
Been listening to this song a lot and I keep thinking about relationships (lovers, family, and friends) and how time almost always changes or just completely destroys them. And no matter how hard you try, it is impossible to recreate that feeling of connection and intimacy that you once shared with that person during a specific time. All that you have left to hold onto are the “ghosts” or memories of those feelings. I used to fear mine but now I keep them closer than anything. Beautiful cover.
You got me right where I feel this song. Some of my personal "ghosts" really are of the no longer living sort, and yeah, it gets deep and dark there. But one personal interpretation here: if you lose enough, you have no reasons left to care about the petty, surface bullshit, and you truly do become a more free person. If you've got enough ghosts, you have an army at your back.
If you have ghosts You have everything If you have ghosts You have everything You can say anything you want And you can do anything you want to do If you have ghosts You have everything One never does that One never does that You can call it surprise There it is And a part of it is me One never does that In the night I am real In the night I am real The moon to the left is a part of my thoughts And a part of me is me Forever is the wind In the night I am real I don't want my Fangs too long I don't want my Fangs too long The moon to the left is a part of my thoughts And a part of me is me Forever is the wind I don't want my fangs too long If you have ghosts You have everything If you have ghosts You have everything If you have Ghost You have everything If you have Ghost You have everything
