I dunno man, they align rather well with Candlemass-style doom.
They're also pretty close to the British band Hell, and Diamond Head.
It doesn't make them bad, but they're not Primus or Mr. Bungle.

@@JeanMarceaux Tobias takes a lot of inspiration from various bands - I believe Candlemass is one of them. If you take their entire discography though, there is no one style to describe everything. Each song has its own unique style. Some of the styles contrast brilliantly - it’s a work of art. You have songs like Helvetesfonster, Life Eternal and He Is, then there’s things like Rats, From the Pinnacle to the Pit and Griftwood. I don’t know about you but it’s awesome to see how effortlessly he can make these things work so well together.
This is merely my opinion however. Everyone has their own opinions and I respect it. I do agree with you, there are aspects to the band that resemble other bands. There is also inspiration from bands such as Queen and ABBA I believe - hell, they even did an ABBA cover.
It is up to the listeners to interpret how they feel towards the music. Don’t let what I’ve said make you feel like I’m trying to taint your opinion. I’m just letting you know my perspective on this.
      Have a good day/night! :)

I got into metal listening to Metallica and the mentor who got me into it passed in 2010 as Ghost came out. Around that time I got the discography and fell in love with it. I can pick gems and see something deeper in the lyrics or instrumental work in *all* of their shit. Then I found Avenged Sevenfold (which came up fronting for and touring with Metallica) and repeat. Now I've found Ghost. I love their Prequelle album, the one with Copia because it's very 80s-esque. I grew up listening to hair metal, classic rock. So naturally, that one and Seven Inches of Satanic Panic are my favorite. I always end up coming back to them! And I know heavy when I want heavy. Sometimes to be heavy, you don't need to be cookie monster behind the mic and spam the same 2 chords. What truly makes something heavy is composition. Sophistication, or sometimes just a lyric that is open to interpretation. So there's a song, an album, a band for every mood and thought, feeling you can possibly have.

I would, however, try to push the idea that Ghost's message is probably more anti-religion than it is anti-spiritual, considering the way they portray their band as a sort of religious congregation led by a pope.
So my interpretation was focused more on the institution of religion which consistently convinces you that there is something wrong with you of which the only cure is the religion that is telling you that you're broken in the first place.

That's why I'm talking about their concept in particular. The ideology behind an alternate/reverse church or religionism, is dark and mysterious, and twisted, and metal likes to keep it that way. Talking about how Emeritus gets the attention of people just like how the Pope does the same thing but vice versa. Music wise they use the same elements the church uses too

I think of Ghost as being more influenced by 70s bands (Blue Oyster Cult seems to be the popular point of reference) with a bit of a modern update, but I can see hear a little Mercyful Fate in some of their songs, and that band started and peaked in the 80s.

Ironically, this song is the reference of the main antagonist's stand in one of my Jojo's tabletop rpg, and the man's state of mind is not very clear (he claims to be the antichrist yet it is unclear if he has a split personality like Diavolo, if he truly believed to do good when we first saw him as an ally, if he played with everyone all along, if he got possessed .....) so seeing someone with a Jojo picture under that song evokes a lot to me, especially when that song relates to someone who got killed by Diavolo (lots in common between the two characters on top of the fact that one is called Devil and the other thinks he is the son of the Devil, but they are still distinct)

I'm a ghost fan, pretty diehard. I've loved them for two years. I've recently found a love for this song and have been playing it all week. Tonight I was sitting in my room with the lights off (closet light was on) and I was listening to this song. I have a habit of closing my eyes and reaching my arm + hand out and mouthing to "don't you know that your lost... don't you know that your lost, without me". Well, tonight I did that again as I always do and my vision when black, heart sank and everything went cold. And I felt something touch my arm. If you've ever had sleep paralysis, that's pretty much what it felt like. (When I say my vision went black, my eyes were closed but there was a small amount of light reflecting into my eyes witch made it look brighter, and it suddenly went away) I immediately ripped off my headphones and started gasping for air. 10/10 would do it again. Thank you Ghost

"Can you hear the rumble... Can you hear the rumble that's calling." I've heard this song before but never bothered to look it up til my now friend from childhood, boyfriend when we were teens always stayed friends, now boyfriend, best friend, lover after 10 years of no contact we reconnected he loves this song and now we regularly listen to this as well as ghost themselves. "Can you hear the thunder...Can you hear the thunder that's breaking?" If you're still reading..
The vocals are amazing and hit home. Great riffs. Some try to say you can't dance to metal and/or rock but you can! "Can you see you're lost without me." Any haters can go F off 😁. "I can see through the scars inside you." In general an awesome song that should be on everyone's playlist.

The sound of this song is a mixture of Slayer and Blue Oyster Cult. The arrangement is a very classic rock feel. This band is a breath of fresh air. My favorite band of the 2010's.

I love this song. Such a piece of art. And yes although I know the meaning behind it, I cannot deny art when I hear and see it. And I love how every song can be interpreted the way someone wants. For some reason this song reminds me of my parents, especially "Can't you see that your lost without me?' and the whole chorus. I would be truly lost without them. They're probably never going to see this or even look my way but... I just want to say thank you, Ghost. Thank you for making such an amazing piece of art that makes my soul sing and express how I feel in ways that my words can't. Keep up the amazing work and keep surprising and amazing people with your work. ❤

There's a lot European influence in their music, but given they're from Europe, that's understandable. A lot of Euro metal bands tend to swing more towards the 'power' side of metal, with powerful vocals, a nice melody, and driving drums. It's fantastic.
