@@andreidemidov2995 check out teds marine repair channel to see how to set the rolling torque. He is a real professional but I got it done. Just take your time, read a manual if you have one, and watch teds video. ua-cam.com/video/ZeyKsQMDX9Q/v-deo.htmlfeature=shared make sure to use a brand new crush washer and bolt as well.

You bet, setting the rolling torque is the tricky part. There is a guy on youtube who shows it. Search Teds marine repair to find it. You want to use a new bolt and crush washer to.

Glad to hear that Skipper. Thanks for the comment and giving me a view. There is a marine mechanic instructor who has a channel called “Teds Marine Repair” you can look his video up about setting the rolling torque. I had to get back out on the water so just made the repair and got back to fishing.

How did this work. I’m worried about tightening that nut on the back. How did it turn out for you. What torque did you do

I was told when you put it back into the drive you have to pre load it somehow or you will eat your gears up I'm trying to replace my u joints

I didn’t have any issues. When I reinstalled the assembly I just turned the drive shaft as I was installing and could feel the gears mesh with each other. Once it was flush I was able to turn the shaft to see the gears in the upper spin in sync with the shaft. That part was pretty easy. I’ve done quite a few trips since the reseal. Was actually out last weekend and put 102 miles on the boat. The drive is real quiet and works the way it should.

@@outattheisland called rolling tq they say you have to do it or it will eat your gears up and it's a pain

Yeah you need a special torque gauge to set the rolling torque which is different than a simple torque spec like when you torque down a cylinder head on an engine. The assembly will be spinning so there is a rolling torque spec.

@@outattheisland so I can pull out the shaft and just put the new one right in and slide that big gear right in if that's it ? Thanks for your help sir

Did you not replace the Main bearing? Mine got a rip in the Bellows Boot and salt water did a number. I'm trying to find all seals and bearings and carrier. Do you know a good site to get parts?

    • @outattheisland

I did everything while I had it all apart. Replaced the gimbal bearing seal (inside the bellows), both bellows, gimbal bearing, and resealed the drive. The gimbal bearing is a pain to get out. Rent the puller for bearings at autozone and use the largest attachment. Its just enough to work. Also when you go to put the new bearing in put it in the freezer the night before. The little bit of clearance you get from it being cold really helps. I used a pipe which I welded into a tool to press in the bearing. Make sure you put the pressure on the outer portion of the bearing and not the bearing itself. Its not that hard. Take your time and youll get it done.

Thank you for the videos! I am having an issue with the pinion gear retainer screw coming loose on a rebuilt SX-M outdrive. I found the Volvo instructions for installing a new driveshaft. The crush sleeve needs to be replaced every time the drive shaft is removed and both Loctite Primer N and Loctite 271 are to be used on the bolt you are showing. Tighten the bolt until the rolling torque on the bearing is between 9-14 in lbs. Full instructions here: inetmarine.com/DataSheets/Volvo/InstallationInstructions3860842.pdf
