  • This is the first live performance of my brand-new, 6-hand arrangement of ABBA's famous song, "Mamma Mia!" As this is a follow-up to my first video, please see the Info Box at the other page for important details.
    UPDATE: The score is available for purchase through SMP Press! (October 2016) Please visit the following link www.sheetmusicplus.com/title/m... ...And if all goes well I hope to arrange and release more hits by ABBA and other artists for six-hand. Enjoy!
    This performance took place at the Théâtre Escaouette, during the closing concert of the 2010 University of Moncton summer music camp. Drummer Étienne Levesque appeared by special request of Nicolas Richard on Piano II. Action shots courtesy of Geneviève Gagné, another piano student of mine during this camp. Camcorder used is a Samsung SC-MX20L; sorry there was no other audio to mix with this in post-production.
    Piano I: Juliane Gallant (staff)
    Piano II: Nicolas Richard (student)
    Piano III: myself (staff)
    Drum kit: Étienne Levesque (staff)
    This UA-cam appearance approved by all performers.
    Camera: Geneviève Gagné (student)

    Glad you like it! I find that the higher speed gives it greater energy over the first video version of it... And the drum part adds a nice feel, although it wasn't quite the original that I had requested. :-)

    The middle player is a former student of mine, and the treble pianist was a staff colleague at the same music camp. I currently teach face-to-face in my studio. I haven't yet taught lessons via Skype, but I suppose there's a first time for everything... If you're interested in talking more, please find the contact page at my website. :-)

    Hello there, and thanks for your interest! Believe me, I want to get this published ASAP, so I can start on a long, continuing string of pop arrangements for 6-hand piano.
    So you're a fellow Canuck! Whereabouts? I took a look at two of your videos and like the talent I observed. :-)
    P.S. I couldn't send this as a private message because you have Friend Lock enabled.

    Are you the teacher? I'd like to have you to teach me, your students look so happy of what they are playing. I've been playing for 8 years, and I never played 2 hands with my teacher =(

    Thanks for your interest. I know what you mean, but a lot of pop music just doesn't work arranged for piano and this song DOES. The vast majority of comments here, as well as everyone present at the concert, would suggest that my arrangement worked. :-)

    @E62Lct
    If you're referring to me, the author of this arrangement, I have been playing piano for nearly thirty-five years. I ended formal training at twenty-four, but obviously as a professional I have kept refining, observing and learning (while also teaching).
    Unfortunately, I don't yet have any videos that show the wide range of repertoire difficulty I face in my university work. But suffice it to say that this ABBA piece is not a technical challenge for me.

    @littlemaymay88
    You think YOU'RE frustrated? How do you think *I* feel?
    I am honored that my arrangement made such an impression. Hopefully the people involved with licensing will get off their butts and we can start the ball rolling soon.

    I am glad that you like this arrangement and that you found the performance (by three professionals and one student) pleasing.
    If you look in the earlier comments, you will see that I plan to publish this arrangement for worldwide commercial release. Unfortunately, I have to figure out copyright fees to two different rights holders (among other things). As soon as this gets resolved, I will let everyone know how they can purchase a copy.

    That's the spirit! Keep the music alive! The show must go on. :-)
    Meanwhile, I promise to all respondents in this thread that I will renew efforts to expedite the process this week.

    I've already replied to the drums aspect after "Anakin Stray's" comment. While I agree it was a touch much, the balance was not as bad as in some videos I've seen on UA-cam.

  • @totophi
    @totophi  12 років тому

    @littlemaymay88
    It didn't occur to you that, if I were seeking commercial release of this arrangement, that it was actually my own arrangement? I thought I made that clear in both descriptions. These are found just beneath the video windows.
    I guess not everybody reads those.

  • @totophi
    @totophi  11 років тому

    Well, our middle pianist insisted on adding drums, so we did so at the last minute. I asked the drummer to play exactly as on the recording, but that part somehow wasn't conveyed... The only audio we had was from the camera; it would have cost more to have it recorded from the booth. :-P

  • @totophi
    @totophi  11 років тому

    The uploader of this video is also the arranger of this work and one of the performers. If you are suggesting that his defensiveness is inappropriate, you are off-base. Your comments are completely under my control and can be deleted at any time.

    Uhhhh, I pasted this (as Hungarian) into the FreeTranslation website, but I'm not sure I should share the given translation. :-P Was this a compliment?

    I thought I was pretty clear: if you Dislike the video but provide a coherent, compelling reason for your disapproval, then at least we have a mutual understanding. And also I can post an intelligent rebuttal, instead of just issuing another UA-cam Loser Award.

    Hi, can I ask you about the sheets of music. My brother, my sister and I are very interested in piano and we would love to play this song. Thank you for any replay.

    The way to overcome the first major hurdle is to have some mysterious, wealthy benefactor suddenly ring my doorbell and give me the required money to pay both Alfred and Hal Leonard appropriate licensing fees (as the two companies are the rights holders). But even there are no guarantees, since the actual communication has been very slow.
    There are many fine 6-hand pieces out there. And maybe you could try arranging other music on your own...

  • @Dreamsp0wer
    @Dreamsp0wer 11 років тому

    I personnaly wouldn't have added the drums, it sounded a bit messy with it (but maybe it's partly because of the sound recorder). I think I liked the previous version better :-)

  • @totophi

    The same could be said for many unwashed millions trolling UA-cam daily, sloshing their saliva on the walls of history. Thanks for clarifying your stance in a civil manner.

  • @totophi

    Do tread carefully here. Never mind that I am a trained, experienced and respected pianist working as a professional accompanist, nor that this is one of my rare arrangements. Or that three people seeking to have fun together could be doing a bunch of "gayer," non-family-friendly things.
    If you want your words to be taken in an academic spirit, use a more academic language.
