It’s funny to me how when Joe Burrow had Chase and Jefferson no one said it was his receivers. Jayden Daniels had one of the best college football seasons as a QB EVER.

It's equally funny when they defend Marvin Harrison Jr against Malik Nabors by saying that Nabors only did as well as he did because of his QB - you can't have it both ways.

I’m totally concerned too about him getting killed running around in the NFL with a slim frame on top of that look how long RG3 lasted for not much so as a Raiders/Rams fan I am totally afraid of his future and I think it’s mostly smoke with his rumors anyways because nobody is honestly going to tip their hand unless they are stupid. He'll last just as long as Lamar who ran wayyyy more than JD did while he was in college also. He is not fragile (not RG3!!!). He's very durable and lasted 55 straight games in college. I expect him to be more durable than Lamar in the pros and they will have him running less and passing more.

Lamar was in the same boat as him. The ravens did an amazing job build a scheme that maximizes his potential and gave him all the needed to succeed. If Daniels is willing to put in the work, eat/workout, and listen to coaches, he will be just like Lamar. Lamar stayed humbled and grinded to get where he is at and that is often overlooked in his rise.

I love Jayden Daniels, but he needs upper-body bulk to survive in the NFL. Some large, adult men are going to crunch him in the pile, post-pass. And comparing him to Lamar Jackson right now, is just flat-out irresponsible; at least two seasons uninjured will allow us to even talk about that.

  • @mikeshanahan7264

Drafting QBs is 80% luck and 20% scouting/research. Every player that gets drafted needs to greatly improve their game upon entering the league. If they are able to or willing to work hard enough is hard to quantify. The most important skill a QB must have is the ability to process information quickly and accurately. Also being able to make all the passes obviously but still below processing ability. It's tough to evaluate this skill in the time you get with each player.

You know who else started 4 years in school? Aiden O'Connell and I actually think he has a CHANCE, i'm not saying he will but I think he has a chance to be a good QB in the league in time with a full camp and starter reps. He has a very good arm he just doesn't move very well and has to learn how to maneuver inside the pocket under pressure I don't care if he can run the ball.

  • @mattesyl33
    @mattesyl33 11 місяців тому +4

I'm sure he can start in the NFL, but I don't see him coming into his own as a top QB unless a team can utilize his skills in a way that protects him from the style he has grown accustomed to playing in college. I'm scared that this kid has some serious RG3 aura following him as he goes into the NFL.
I'm not in love with JD, so if he falls to number three in the draft and I was the Patriots, I would trade back to gain draft capital so that I could fill all the holes I have. I've been a diehard Patriot's fan since the mid 80s so if they draft him, I will completely back him with cheers. I would hope that they wouldn't rush him into a QB1 roll and that they setup the Offense to support a playing style that would benefit him at the NFL level (as it SHOULD BE adjusted to keep him healthy). The NFL won't let him get away with a lot of his go to moves from college. He's an incredible athlete, and his style is what makes him so valuable, and such a risk. Availability is always the best ability. Does it matter how great you are if you're injured?

Nobody can deny his tape is great. The question is how well his tape translates to the NFL? There I have some problems
Firstly I dont care about his age or size. Development is not linear and he could still improve. As for size, injuries are imo random and just because hes smaller doesnt mean he is a lock to get injured. The problems are:
    - Passing playstyle: He doesnt make alot of full field reads, hes not as bad as his comp (RG3) was but there are plays where he will do one read then take off. This would be fine if he wasn't a 5th year starter.
    - Scrambling is good right? Well not if youre just running. Jayden does not once keep his eyes down the field when out of the pocket and will only run. This is not sustainable, top QBs like Mahomes and Josh allen (and even 2nd tier QBs like Stroud) make alot of their magic while scrambling keeping the throw alive. Jayden will take off running and not throw it.
He will even bail from an astronomical amount of pockets which leads to his bottom 5 pressure-to-sack% of all college QBs. He scrambles on 20% of his clean pockets! There are quite a few instances on tape of his WRs getting open (usually over the middle, a place he doesn't often target) but by the time theyre open Jayden has decided to run. Nice 5 yard gain, but could've been a 20 yard throw if he kept his composure in the pocket.
    - Team: While its true he will have two 1st rd talent WRs, that doesn't automatically mean he was carried by them... but in this case you can make that argument. On tape its clear Jayden doesn't fit many tight windows, which will only get tighter in the NFL. His WRs usually had 3+ yards of separation which made the decision to throw an easy one. If they weren't, then he wasn't throwing. This is how stats can lie to you.
The talent is still there with Jayden. You'll have to be patient, like the ravens were with lamar. Lamar picked up NFL QB passing skills in his 3rd or 4th year of being a rusher, and the team picking Jayden will have to navigate that path with similar running QB busts (Fields, RG3, Mariota) scattered along the way. Hes worth a 1st rounder for this chance alone, but not in the top 3 in my opinion

@roductions I think his point is that JD could be taken 2nd by Washington (like RG3), but RG3 was slender and ran a lot, and the rest you know. While JD is slender, he is a better passer than RG3, and I believe he can learn the mental side of QB better and faster than RG3. But it is true JD takes some rough hits, and that didn't work out with RG3. Hopefully JD will protect himself better (slide) than RG3.

Caleb won't be playing in the "what is defense?" Pac 12 or Big 12 this season. So we really have no clue what he can do against actual defenses. Maye is raw and no one has any clue how his size and talent will translate to the NFL. Daniels looks like a surefire franchise QB, if he can stay in one piece. Bears will take Caleb and trade Fields. Commanders will take Maye because Adams has already made comments in the past about Daniels and can't see him taking him. That would leave Daniels for the Pats and make lot of people happy in New England. Cards and Bolts are hoping for this scenario because it leaves Harrison, Nabors and Odunze siting there to be taken.

He’s like clearly not the best qb in the draft class. CLEARLY. Click bait is click bait.
That being said he has a really nice ceiling. He just can’t be out there taking on LBs and Safeties. Whoever drafts hit better have a strong OL. Probably the best case is gonna be a few designed runs per game, some RPO concepts. But he can’t be out there like Hurts because Daniels is the size of a WR. He’s really slight. Hopefully whoever drafts him teaches him to slide, unlike what we saw from AR in Indy last year.

First, consider the volume Daniels ran the ball. Since 2019 (which is as far back as TruMedia’s data goes for FBS players), no quarterback has scrambled more times than Daniels did in college; his 258 career scrambles not only sit firmly at the top, it sits in its own stratosphere. Only one other quarterback had more than 200 scrambles since 2019 and the player who ranks third, 2023 Cleveland Browns draft pick Dorian Thompson-Robinson, finished with 167 scrambles in his career, nearly 100 fewer than Daniels.
