- Have you seen this viral root volume hack by @ash.ires Would you try this volume hack?
I thought the concept was very innovative but unfortunately, I found that the hair sitting underneath the clip took to long to dry… I also noticed that playing with my hair while it is wet and after styling created more frizz than I prefer.

i think her hair was damp with gel product, not completely water
That and the girl has tighter curl pattern than the girl redoing what she saw the other girl do from the beginning I knew she wouldn’t get the same results
If anything products take LONGER to dry. This technique just isn’t curly friendly unless you got some loooose ass curls
@@Naninanimousher hair is definitely not curlier than the lady recreating, hers are just more hand coiled or separated as the recreator probably didn’t do the same since it wasnt mentioned.
@@KeijiloveskarmaDude, her curls are absolutely a bit tighter and even if they werent they were still curls which she did this method with success, it is curl friendly considering you just seen curly hair do it 💀
yeah i had to rewatch but definitely looks like gel
I think the original poster’s hair was either thinner or she did less sections, and her clip was a lot bigger and taller to allow the roots to dry
How do you keep your first down
That seems to make the most sense 😅
she has high porosity hair that dries easily. my High porosity dries in minutes. 🤷♀️
No I think someone said it was gel making it damp not water
@@politereminder6284 Well then my hair must be either low porosity or decides what it wants to be on the day. Sometimes it takes a day to dry, other times it's dry within less than an hour without assistance.
My curly stylist just showed me this last week! She diffused until all my hair was dry and she took thinner strips than you did. My hair normally takes about 5 hrs to fully air dry. It worked better than a clip alone or criss crossing alone!
im sorry if this is stupid but can you go to a curl stylist if your hair is 2b-2c with minimal 3a? idk I damaged my hair lately so any curls and waves I had are gone lmao
@@unluckyokinawanyou are exactly who should be going to them. Just let them know your hair type and the damage and they’ll take it from there.
@@unluckyokinawan yes! My hair is 2a/2b and I was worried about that too, she made me feel super normal though. Wavy hair needs love too :)
:)
:)
I lift the claw clip a bit and dry the hair underneath with a diffuser. Helps to dry it, and if you let it cool it will set your roots too so you'll get lift for longer when you take it out
I’m surprised she didn’t do it that way
We used to use the cool button on low/medium, to set at the end. We would spray a little (suffocate yourself) in Insette hairspray!! haha I can smell it now.. it was fab!
@@AlexisDimes yeah me too, obviously if you bunched your hair together in a clip it's not going to dry
Creative but takes so long to dry!! You always have the best reviews ❤️❤️
In the original tiktok, they actually diffused the hair..!
Sh3 didn't do it right... it's works good if you do it with a clip or two that are huge an hav like 4 teeth a piece. I've done this since the 90s. Someone just copied this from their 80s moms 😂
Definitely not the best review, she did it wrong💀
Use a larger tooth claw and diffuse that area together and you should be good. Did that in the 80s all the time. Loved loved loved it!!! ❤ Miss miss miss it!!! 😅
I came to say the exact same thing. Even down to the 80s. 😂
@@debrataylor830 Yay! 🥰 So happy to not be “alone”!
where are y’all finding larger ones than this because i have this same one and it’s considered a “large clip” and when i look for extra large clips they’re all this size! do i need to go back to the 80s to find them?😭🥹
@@raindropfairy Lol I didn't know they no longer exist. But maybe 🤔 🤣
@@raindropfairyGoogle XL claw clips and a few should come up for cheap
It’s the type of clip you’re using. I do this all the time with my curly hair. Use the claw like she’s using. It has less teeth, they’re fatter and it leaves more room for the air to get in. I even use the diffuser while the clip is in & I LOVE the results!
Along with the other comments about her hair not being fully wet, I think she also pulled the clip farther back, into the middle of her head. That left the roots, nearest her forehaed, exposed and easier to dry
If big hair is making a come back .. I’m here for it ❤
i have thin curly hair and i said immediately to myself that this would definitely work! good hack for thin haired curlies i think
You flattened the hair on the top with the blow dryer in the end… lol…. See if you can do it again… you have lovely hair
And split it back down the middle part. Seemed like it was working fine but w.e
I have very thin curly hair. I think I will try it and see if it works better. Thanks for showing us.
So relatable with the hair still being wet hours later! your hair is gorgeous!
My 1a hair ass is amazed by your hair 😭 like it has so much volume you look so amazinggg
Partially dry the top then clip it in and finish drying.
You got a lot of hair girl!!
You should just let it air dry. It actually works. I have been doing it since I was 16. 😅
she left it for 4 hours on top of the initial diffuse dude. not all hair dries fast enough for just air drying to be worth it and her hair is a bit higher density than some
@@Ari_Cyea fr when I had longer hair it’d take all day to air dry
what does this do? im not understanding could u please explain what this does?
@@IvySpinks it’s supposed to add extra volume at the roots
@@Ari_Cmy hair takes over 12 hours to dry. Long it took 24ish
I love your curls, I wish my waves were curls😢 I think because she has less/thinner hair than you and used a clip that allowed more airflow, is why it worked for her 😅
It does help that your hair is naturally curly. Looks great!
This got recommended to me by my hairstylist in the 2000s! It's a little finicky with the big clip when you have thick hair, but it works if you find a method that suits you. Try it again with individual small clips or butterfly clips! That's what I always used.
I appreciate how honest and straight forward this review is
How am I only now learning Amanda has her own channel 😮
girl, your hair is absolutely GORGEOUS ❤
the texture the color EVERYTHING i wish i had your hair 😩😭
Idk why I started it, but I used to sort of clamp up my roots like this without the criss crossing beforehand. It does absolutely give a lot of volume (although sometimes it stands in a weird shape after you let it out, maybe the criss crossing helps with that) and for some reason makes my hair curl waaaayyyyy nicer, even without any product. Tbh half the time I didn't even worry if my roots were completely and totally dry when I let them out and the results were still typically pretty good. So yeah I could definitely see this working for me as just an extra step to something I used to do lol
Whether the hack works or is a flop is irrelevant bc your hair is FIRE. So beautiful!
Your hair is absolutely flawless though ✨️
I’ve been doing this for at least 14 years, I’ve always air dried my curly wavy hair and I clip up my hair the middle right after I apply product. If I have to take it out while it’s still very wet, I’ll usually flip it to one side & then when it dries, flip it to the opposite side or down the middle & it’ll have more volume
Girl you do not need a volume hack for that glorious mane of mermaid curls. You good!
Gorgeous hair! Children have the beautiful curls ❤
Thanks for trying these things out for us
of course!
Seems like a sure fire way to get my hair tangled and knotted 😂
Blush and curls works so well, cool combo
I’ve been doing this for a month or two since I saw the bud and this is my routine (I have 3a hair that’s damaged so it’s 2c/2b in most spots)
I apply all my products and scrunch excess water out with a microfiber towel. then I layer the pieces like in the video and add a piece from the back of my head lying forward towards my face. I clip it with the long part going towards the back to make sure I grab each section. I hover diffuse until my hair is about 50 ish percent dry making sure to get super close to the clipped roots at all angles. then I unclip the roots, gently rearrange them to their sides, and either air dry or pixie diffuse the rest of the way. there might be a little volume sacrificed by manipulating them but it usually turns out pretty cute.
My roots especially at the nape are the hardest parts of my hair to dry. This would not work for me either. Thanks for trying it out so I don't have to.
Seriously. My hair wants all the water. It will not let go. So frustrating.
I have curly hair, too, and if I put my hair up with anything while it's still wet, it can stay that way for days. My mom's straight thin hair will be dry by the time she puts it in a ponytail.
I wash my hair in the early evening to go to bed early with damp hair in a thick towel. Having it all scrunched up in there helps with volume - and you can bet I'm going to try that clip trick to see if I can tolerate anything in my head 😂 I might be back in a few hours saying I couldn't sleep but here goes nothing. 😅
Lol....we did this in the 80's! Good to know it still works ❤❤❤
you have such GORGES hair i love it
So GRATEFUL you TESTED this out 🚧
i got u!

Thank you for trying this and making an HONEST review! ❤
Enjoy that curly hair! Mine was like that when I was little and just got straighter as I grew up.
I agree if she cut off the part where she dried it to make it look fluffy. I love your hair ❤
Your hair is so pretty😊
Your hair is so gorgeous as are you!! thanks for trying it out.
You have a natural charisma that draws people in.
Back in the 80's I would flip my hair upside down and dry it with a diffuser for volume.
I think hers worked out better, because her clip was bigger and allowed more airflow
her hair was also less dense than Amanda's
@@Ari_C true but a better airflow would still make a big difference
Hair stylist here. Hit your hair with the clip in using the concentrator on the dryer not the diffuser. The clip is already acting as a diffuser so you don’t need to take it out you can just use the concentrator you’re hair will dry faster also some air dry cream may help speed up the process.
Tip: my curly hair never touches a dryer. I always let it air dry. This used to take forever, hours, until I started using a LOT of mousse and gel. Now my hair is dry in an hour. And I do clip.
Looks like she took smaller sections, used a bigger claw-clip, and only clipped the crown, where you'd want the most volume, not the entire criss-crossed section. ☺️
I’d say try it with the concentrator just for the portion under the clip. Also blot your hair a bit more and amp up the mouse or gel!
Your hair is gorgeous!
What about using a small clip like she did
i actually have the same clip she had used ( but i couldnt find it LOL) however it isn't much smaller than the one I used!
@@itsamandaguido what about with duck clips?? I wonder if that would work 🤔
Can you drop your hair routine? 😍😍
Your hair is so pretty! And so are you!
Different curl textures dry differently too, i need to try this because mine seems to dry pretty quickly!
There's way more spacing in her clip. Yours had a lot more claws so air couldn't get through! Try again with a giant claw clip
" Its looks way too good to be true, so that means we have to try it"...
wait, what 😂. Amanda 😅 💕💕💕💕💕
LMAO why am i like this
I shower before bed and my hairdressers always told me with curly hair that is less voluminous at the top that you should take some little clips and pin the roots up so it dries with volume. :) this is actually a good tip but you can do it in any way.
I do this but I don't cross my hair over I just let it grab the tops of my hair and I let it air dry for an hour tops. It works.
Made sense to me and looked like it was heading in the right direction. Why not go with it damp?
Try it again using smaller sections and one of the octopus claw clips.
Your hair is beautiful!!!
You’re hair is gorgeous
Girl, you have bouncy curls 😂 us straight hair girls STRUGGLE and BEG for just a lil volume 😭
And us curly girlies would love to have straight hair that you could just run a brush through when it gets unruly instead of a whole rigamarole. Green grass etc
Bouncy curls doesn't mean volume on top.
Your hair is more dense than hers.
okay you’re GORGEOUS
Ooh, I want to try this!!
I miss when my hair used to be this thick😭 it’s been thinning so bad
I think if you let it finish air drying after the first or even second time you used the dryer, it would look really good and voluminous!
Luv how u are honest with us thank youuu
I do a version of this, but use several smaller clips spread over the top of my head. It works.
I love that u didn’t make us wait for a part 2 😭
I think this technique works best for thinner hair
Your curls are so pretty
Back in my day, they put part 2 😢 Thank you 😅
We used to do same thing back in the day to give volum to straight hair too.
I never knew root volume was good, I on the contrary always used to tie my hair when it was wet so that there would be minimal volume
Really??? Why???
Your hair is so pretty
It's new to you been doing this styling hair since 80's 🤣🤣🤣🤣
Bigger/wider tooth clip = more air flow and faster drying.
You should get a similar clip and try again.
Slightly lift the comb & use the diffuser.
You can also use a strainer as a diffuser
I love that lip color ❤❤❤❤
Holy shoot you are GORGEUS girl ❤ Your curls are amazing
I feel you! My hair takes forever to dry 😂 even after 8 hours Its still damp like wth? Lol
Your curls are gorg!!
Y is ur hair SO PRETTY❤❤❤
Try using a comb attachment just for the top. You can slide it under the clip and get the roots dry.
When you let it dry I was so happy, YOU HAVE A BRAINNN
Do this after diffusing your hair. If it’s just a little moist and not sipping wet it can fry better. That would be a better test.
Blow drying in the opposite direction was exactly how the scene kids got their fluffy bangs back when i was in school
Your hair is so pretty and curly
I have straight hair- and not “TikTok taught me my straight hair is secretly wavy” but seriously very straight lol. Always on board for trying volume tricks, even if it’s for curly hair-we will see if it works!
My hair is much shorter, Super fine, and thinner on top from previous stress, bad water, and bad nutrition. Although I've got about 80% of it back in the last few years (cut my stress, put a water filter on my shower, and eat much better). So, that technique would probably work for me, but I could tell your hair is at least three times thicker and was going to have a hard time drying. You might could do it if you sectioned it off in at least three parts. I use root clipping and have really good success with it, but the trick is to do it a bit messy so that it looks natural.
Thank you for being honest.
Saw the same video, it's been working so well for me. I only do it for a few minutes then I take them out & finish defusing
You have beautiful hair!
I def have to try!
I wish my hair was curly like that. Humidity in FL just gives me frizzy waves
I used to do this, it's great, def an overnight styling thing
Love your hair !
😊
