You left out a HUGE point that probably blows up your conclusion. Just saturday, March 30th, I decided to buy a small truck that could tow my 3000lb boat. The Maverick XLT with a 400lb tow package and the required eco boost engine stickered for about 38 grand. Not terrible....but, the "market adjustment" tacked on by every dealer in Tulsa, OK brought it to over 40 grand. Oh...and if you wanted anything aside from the one or two they had available, it was a 20-32 week lead time to order one. The Santa Cruz XRT stickered for 41, 505, but... Hyundai incentives brought it down to 38 grand at every dealer in Tulsa and Oklahoma City. This includes a 5000lb tow rating. 1000lbs more than the top available rating for the Maverick.
I really like both vehicles, but the lower price, higher equipment level, higher tow rating, much better warranty of the Hyundai did it for me. At the same price, the Hyundai would be a better deal, but since Hyundai has these incentives right now, anyone looking for this kind of vehicle should bypass the Ford store and go talk to the Koreans. Oh yeah...the Santa Cruz is built in Alabama, the Maverick is built in Mexico. Just fyi.

1992 s-10. That’s what we have and that’s what we love!
    Small truck options are
    Mavrick
    Santa Cruz
After that is the ridge line but that is 210”.

They sell more because it's about price. For the price you get more value with the Maverick.

Great details about the two trucks. Is the Maverick non-hybrid that much less expensive than the Santa Cruz?

Also many pickup drivers will never be seen in a non big three pickup.

The Santa Cruz makes more sense when viewed as an open-top station wagon and not a small pick up truck.

If I buyers did cross-shop these it is also likely that they would do some research and learn that one has a potential "time bomb" of a transmission and the other has a "less severe" time bomb in the engine bay. I also just think that Hyundai didn't market this vehicle in the same "work truck" way that Ford does with the Maverick. 200inches is small...that is funny to me.

America is a late to the game Australia has had UTEs for decades. These are just that tall 4 door UTEs

Because at least ford will attempt to honour a warranty issue and it’s cheaper while having similar truck stats.

The DCT is an absolute "no" for me, and the bed isn't great, especially with the cover.

Well the Maverick hybrid is much better on gas mileage and it looks better than the Cruz. I’d choose the Maverick as well

You are incorrect, top of the line Maverick lariat trim is $34,855 before taxes and delivery add a moon roof for an additional $995 for a total of $35,850. The Maverick is indeed the better of the two and in my opinion the only one you can call a truck. The Santa Cruz limited $41,320 with the moon roof standard is nice just not my cup of tea. The difference in price with the Maverick adding the moon roof is $5,470 which is still a great price in comparison even though it has gone up every model year.

These were based on 2023 prices where the price difference was bigger

You are comparing the XLT and should be comparing the lariat Maverick. Lariat was always the top trim 22, 23, and 24.

This is a little disingenuous and biased. You can’t buy a Maverick anywhere in America for MSRP. Maverick’s are being sold on average 7 to 10K over MSRP. In fact the Hybrid Maverick is no longer the base Maverick . You don’t want to know how many people tried to order Mavericks to never see them or have the dealer do the bait and switch. If you order a Santa Cruz you actually get what you ordered.
Hyundai’s problem was that they chose to provide the most expensive model as it’s Press Vehicle.
They also haven’t released a Hybrid version yet.
If you do a straight dollar for dollar comparison the base Santa Cruz is a better buy than a base Maverick.
Once you get into the 30K plus market. The Ranger, Colorado and Tacoma are better buys

Not sure where you are but there are plenty of dealers selling Mavericks for MSRP.
