The difference between winter and summer gas is the vapor pressure ( known as reid vapor pressure ) the vapor pressure in the winter is higher to help engines start easier in the cold weather and lower in the summer to prevent vapor lock. The vapor rate in the winter is typically 13 psi and 9 psi in the summer.

In the fall gas prices go up because of winter gas and in the spring gas prices go up because of summer gas

Ethanol free is best. Too bad it isn't on your app, making it irrelevant to me.

legit question - is there benefit to running premium fuel during summer and regular during winter? would the outside temp have any measurable impact on engine performance, knock, etc? assume that the car can use both and has specs for horsepower on both regular and premium.

Your car's ECU should be able to adapt to ambient temperature and fuel quality. If my owner's manual recommends 87 octane, I just use 87. You could do an experiment and do some data logging with an OBDII scanner if you are really curious...

I am concerned about the ethanol content in gasoline messing up the small engines in my equipment. Can't get straight answer from Google. is there less or more ethanol in winter or summer mixes?

Get a test kit and find out.. it's simple you just take a known amount of fuel and add water to it and the ethanol/water separates and then you can tell the percentage.. the little test kit measuring cups are pretty cheap and make it easy to know for sure

Gas prices are moronic. For every single other product, manufacturers will even the price out over a long time. You don't see bread getting more expensive as the prices of wheat fluctuate. Coffee doesn't jump up and down. Candy doesn't get much cheaper all of a sudden if there's an abundance of sugar on the market.
Name one other consumer product that does this thing.

Funny cuz we burn more to pre heat cars and cold dense air burns more gas.

Pre-heating cars is a thing of the past with modern automobiles. Unless you mean remote-starting the car and using it to heat the cabin?

@@ARentz07 yep. I live in michigan where it's super cold. Not to mention i work third shift and if i dont remote start, my breathe hits the frozen windshield and im phucked.

ARentz07 No its not a thing of the past. Oil is more thicker when its cold. Don’t want to rev engine with thick oil. Power steering fluid is thicker, I know it affected my steering when cold and didnt warm up the car.
