When I was a kid in 1978, I flew on a DC4 (I think) from Terciera to Ponta Delgada. The pilots saw me looking into the cockpit while we were boarding and invited me to sit in the jump seat for the entire flight! That really helped spark my love of aviation. Loved the video, nice to see the Azores again!
@@liebnhaider Not only that, but the next day when we flew to Santa Maria, there was..no joke...a Concorde sitting on the tarmac! It was there for a refueling stop from Paris to Caracas. I got to watch it take off from outside the tiny terminal. Quite a trip!
Loved the shots of the beautiful landscape. I know this is an aviation-based journal, but I can never get enough of seeing a bit of the world, especially such beautiful places like the Azores. Fit in as much as you can, when you can. Thanks!
Lajes airport Terceira, I think every avgeek knows the story of Air Transat Flight 236! Island multi-hopping is always risky due to weather and can ruin your day. I strongly recommend flights to Corvo, it kicks your Adrenalin! The terminal is overcrowded if there are more than 10 people inside... Also have a look on Santa Maria, an airport with huge history. Years ago I was on the island when there was a A350 performing testflights, before commercial flights started with that beauty.
Visiting small remote communities like here you need to plan ahead. Coming to an island in the middle of Atlantic with no preparations ahead and then be surprised there are no taxis or rental cars available is very American :-) Nice video overall though!
My ex was stationed on Terceira in the USAF, back in 2000, and I flew out to see him for a week. Had to fly from Denver to Boston on United and then from Boston to Terceira on TAP Portugal. Was a pretty little island.
Thank you very much for this very interesting Trip Report!🙂👍 SATA is a nice little Airline and Thunderstorms can happen everywhere - and, yes, bad communication, too!
Sorry you didn’t make it to São Jorge .. although have been stuck at SJZ on many occasion due to a north wind. Have had a few hairy landings there too ! Unfortunately when flying in the Azores you are at the mercy of the weather!
Great video man! If you want to catch the dash Q200 you might catch it to Corvo or from Corvo, because its the only one that lands there. The Q400 is too big for their runway.
Island hoping like that in the Azores is asking for trouble. I know plently who have been stuck at Flores for days due to weather issues. On another note in oder to avoid long flights across the pond I flew OPO-BOS via PDL, makes it more comfortable and always nice to visit the Açores.
I would never do this island hopping too much stress and anxiety. Thanks for sharing. How is the airline in general? The hoels? The bars/restaurants at the tiny little airport and in town in those islands visited?
as someone who has done multiple of tose 2 hours to and from Funchal in the Q400, although the flight is noisy and a bit cramped, it isn’t that bad to be fair. And also, when going to Funchal, there is in fact service. They don’t do service on island hopping flights.
Think you are rushing to much - you should have stayed a night on Flores // Had a SATA flight once from OPO to PDL via Terceira with good service and no issues at all - the Azores are such a nice place to be, really worth staying a while //
In terms of passenger experience, what is the difference the Dash 8 and the AT76? I had the "pleasure" of the AT76 last year and the interior looks similar to this video.

Amazing! Thanks for watching.

Lack of communication... yeah welcome to Portugal 🇵🇹 😉

I was born there and worked on 3 of these islands for 4 years.
what a baby. The Q400 is a work horse aircraft and is the best at what it does.
Which aircraft isn't?
oh man, couldnt wait for the next part of your trip! loving the music in that video again! great post production!

Awesome video man!
Wov, very beautiful video. ✈️ Thank you. 🥀

Mariehamn Airport is also served by one taxi apparently. And it doesn't even follow the one daily flight!

As a flight attendant I say, por que?

Absolutely right - if you're off the beaten track, even in aviation, you need to cut yourself some slack, what did he/we see of Flores?
Sorry this was so stressful - you need a bit more slack in your schedule to enjoy the wonderful Azores!
19:12 interesting to see how thwhatever light that is on the aircraft flashes four times and turns off for about three seconds each sequence.
Clearly Gabe was a little fed up to say the least and not impressed, but such a great video again.
I fly to ponta delgada at least 1 time a year I know that airport like the back of my hand

Sorry too stressful dude lol
NICE
Great video man, love it. Just noticed i was there at the exact same time and flew on the a321 to frankfurt bro crazy ♥
Thanks and wow, what a coincidence!
There's some limit of how many times you can publish an ETD. I don't know if that's an IATA rule or something related to EU261. Maybe look it up.
Still doesn't excuse them from notifying passengers verbally.
Why would you say no service is surprising yet its america?
best video👍👍👍
i would avoid them like the plague
