I'm running Punisher throughout my first playthrough (and it's hardcore difficulty). I'm at the final Krauser fight. The Punisher has served me well this far. Definitely not weak by any means.
I honestly almost never used red9 in both original and the remake, punisher is good enough and (at least in the original, but its cost in the remake isn't horrible either) is for free. Yeah it deals a bit less damage but it takes less space and is worth upgrading, also using a laser scope in the remake is hell better than stock for red9 Of course if I can buy blacktail, I will buy the blacktail, it's the good boi and only matilda and sentinel9 are better in this case
This will be really great for the Minimalist run. SG-09 and Matilda for mob clearing. Red9 and Blacktail for boss killing, and Punisher for Regenerator.
i love that everyone uses a different gun, there’s not one unanimous gun that everyone picks. for me it’s the punisher for the 5x penetration and mag size. the SG is my other pick for the crit rate.
Same, though I moved to striker as the fully upgraded damage is basically equivalent to the broken butterfly before upgrades. I pretty much play the entire game using handgun, then shotgun if they get too close, rifle if they’re too far away, tmp if I run out of ammo for handgun, and bolts pretty much only for the mines on bosses or the occasional stealth kill. The blacktail once it’s upgraded and with the special upgrade packs A LOT of punch. Could do with another few rounds before reload, but otherwise it’s great and feels satisfying somehow
That's true! You can beat the game with any handgun and with just the handgun. However the Sentinel Nine is a slightly upgraded variation of the SG. The blacktail feels like a upgraded version of the red9. The matilda is there for the memes and the punisher is pretty underated from the castle section and onwards. The overall best in my opinion would have to be the sentinel nine...can mow down groups of enemies with the exclusive upgrade.
@@dreadwalker0 Stats wise they're not pure upgrades, the Red 9 still does ~10% more damage than the Blacktail fully upgraded with the drawback of lower accuracy and more space required, and the SG has slightly better power and reload speed than the Sentinel, even if you'd rather have the Sentinel most of the time (which is excused since its a paid extra anyway). Punisher is there for the Pistol + Knife only challenge when you need to kill Regeneradors. Matilda has the highest DPS of any handgun and with the new infinite ammo ears it's not really a meme either.
@@Gilthwixt1 Very good points! i suppose it's true, i tend to look at things with a more practical point of view. The red9 is stronger yes, but the space it uses with stock does not make up for that extra 10%...the blacktail only takes 4 spaces and can almost boast the same level of raw damage. With the extra space you can have 2 extra stacks of 50 rounds handgun ammo. The SG and Sentinel are more or less the same, Sentinel just has more ammo and better fire rate while SG has better reload and a small amount extra damage. The Matilda seems to be the most impractical since it can burn 60 rounds in about 5 seconds and replenishing that ammo could take time overall. With infinite ammo cat ears i will agree the weapon is a beast. I respect your opinion, just thought i could share mine aswell😅
The Blacktail is nuts. Almost the same damage as a Red9, way faster fire rate and reload, and takes up no space in your inventory. If it could use the laser sight, it would be the best handgun easily.
black tail is and always was the best in re4 2005. red9 takes way to much inv space. its funny seeing this generation all scream red9 is the best lol. and then say i need inv space lol
Personally I've found the punisher the most well rounded so far. Laser sight for amazing precision, decent enough power for headshots and staggering, decent rate of fire and the penetration is such a nice passive thing helping in almost every fight
This is THE first video I've seen that actually recommends the Sentinel Nine. I may have to look into now knowing it also gets a 5x crit rate bonus like the SG. Great review video sir!
I used the red9 during my hardcore play through and now I’m using the sentinel 9 (max upgrade) on my professional run and I feel like I stagger enemies way more often than the red9. Plus that critical kill is always satisfying
Interestingly enough, each gun has three hidden stagger stats corresponding to different enemy reactions. In the code they're called wince, break, and stop, which is used for melee-stuns, dismemberment, and stopping power respectively. They're mostly the same but sometimes cap out or increase at different rates alongside Damage upgrades. And surprise surprise, Punisher has the highest wince when maxed out. So with the laser sight attachment and punch-through, it's easily the best at crowd control.
@@joshuawhitford5509 the power of modding and testing lol But I'll be real, it's incomplete info and mostly just word of mouth on modding Discords atm. With how popular 4make is though, I wouldn't be surprised if a lot of it becomes widespread knowledge in easy to read format someday soon^tm
Sentinel Nine is probably my favorite Handgun due to him using it on Vendetta, also that fire rate is so good and having the laser sight makes it even greater
@@afungai1649 I don't think the point of it is to maximize and always hit 5....even if you are regularly hitting 2 guys you are probably being more efficient than the other pistols you can easily hit a lot in tight corridors/stairs moments when they group up.
The black tail is better than you made out in all honesty. And the punisher is incredibly useful in the castle section of the game. Straight through the shields, straight through the people with the plaga on their back, it’s very useful. Black tail I had fully upgraded, and sold it to fully upgrade SG09, and honestly feel like I’ve made a mistake. Cool video though, I like that everybody has their own go to weapons, it’s good that they’re all viable.
@@toxicgreen8833 I sold my exclusive black tail to full upgrade the SG and honestly biggest mistake I have made. Regret it massively, sometimes you get a few criticals, and then sometimes you don’t get any for ages and just burn through ammo. The black tail is a way better handgun overall, and I wish I still had it.
I used the blacktail over the SG for my first playthrough because the crit hit rate seemed really inconsistant whereas the blacktail most of the time I could just dump 3-4 shots really fast into the body and kill
@Dylan Smith this is exactly what I did and also regretted it, went from reliably clearing enemies to struggling hoping for a crit hit that almost never happened
I like how there's no objectively trash weapons in RE4 remake and they reworked some of the OP items. They did a good job balancing the arsenal in this game. For what it's worth, Red9 is still my baby. She's basically a mini-magnum once all souped up and it's just a festival of popping skulls. So fun.
Before you max out damage, the other hand guns are generally better in OG RE4. If you try killing enemies with damage alone you’ll be stuck reloading a lot of the time. Low RoF, reload speed and magazine capacity. Stunning enemies with the other hand guns is generally a more effective tactic and using the knife on them safes just as many bullets as the Red9 does in terms of requiring less shots to kill.
Its true that in original game red9 and blacktail where dominating but when fully upgraded starting handgun was the best with that insane critical hit rate
I love the punisher, it's particularly effective against wooden shielded enemies. It can be a good overall beast of a weapon when the power is maxed out. You can also attach the laser sight.
IIRC, the remake still has the whole 'adaptive difficulty' mechanic that came from the OG RE4. Basically, the game adapts to how well/poor you do. I read somewhere that each difficulty has a scaler to determine how high your crit chance is, luck in finding spinel drops, ammo drops, and other rng values. For example, if you land consistent headshots the game will progressively get harder by either having the AI become harder to stagger, duck and weave more often when aiming, or just spawn more enemies. If you keep missing or dying, the game will cool it with the smarter AI and increase your crit chance, health drops, loot drops, etc. This was a main reason why I didn't stick with the SG since in the end crit chance values might be getting adjusted depending on how well/bad you do
Bro my first run I kept getting my ass handed to me (didn't die a lot but fights were hard) but I never got enough ammo to comfortably survive. So I was in a limbo of hard fights with close no ammo. 7th
@@shaggytoph For my cat ears run and no bonus weapons run I used Red9/Blacktail. Endgame you're hardly ever going to land consistent crits on AI so raw damage is just better for S+ runs. My personal preference is Red9 because of its design but Blacktail is also pretty clean to use.
Need to mention! SG-09 and DLC weapon x5 crit chance exclusive works on every melee attack in the game while they are equiped. With +20% crit chance on melee you pretty much start oneshoting most enemies on hardest difficulty on stagger melee. its a bug from original RE4 that they probably decided to make a feature in remake. Also i believe BlackTail dont realy stuns enemies that often as other guns
@@gregthesplintercell crit modifiers carry on on mellee attacks. Means that x5 crit chance increase every kick and suplex crit chance, and those crits deal x4 damage
@@iMost067 wow thanks. The game doesn't explain or break things down like that to understand. Maybe I'll stick with the sentinel nine for my professional mode playthrough.
Blacktail is a good gun for quick killing and in number it is equal to the red9 in stun. But blacktail take age to focus and it is accurate enough to just be use without focus for killing so it seems it don't stun a lot.
great review man! I'm a blacktail loyalist, its such a powerful weapon in such a small package and its accuracy is great. I definitely need to try out the Sentinel Nine I wish I woulda preordered the Deluxe version instead lmao. Also isn't it cool how there's no definitive answer for whats the best? They all have their uses
Red 9 for my first play through was really nice, but the sentinel 9 is probably my favorite all around. Plus it looks amazing and has laser sight compatibility.
You’re the first person I’ve seen talking about the Matilda’s burst overlap. I found it out on my handgun only run, and I was melting everything that stood in my way 😂 with cat ears, Matilda is way better than even the Chicago sweeper
I'm still on my first playthrough and am currently rocking the blacktail. I feel like it is the best "all arounder." Although I do miss having the laser dot on every handgun. The matilda just seems unfair so I decided to not use it for my first playthrough. I do want to give the punisher another chance too, seems like it would be helpful for the castle section. I was also initially disappointed by the red9's nerfing, but honestly, I appreciate the balance between all the handguns more. Loving this game damn near as much as the original!
If the red9 had a laser it would have been far too OP, like in the original but in the remake you can also move and shoot at the same time so yeah red9 W laser would have destroy the game even on pro.
I appreciate the reply. We are now friends. I feel the only fight I wished would've been in it was the U3 from the original. However the lore and dialog between krauser and Leon in this was top notch.
The nerf on Red9 is on the power, which even so, is still the most powerful handgun. It packs a punch and is precise with the stock. A good choice. On HC I am using the blacktail. Seems all around good jack of all trade
I found the stock mostly just taking up inventory doesn't make enough of a difference to spend the spinels on it IMO, those would be better used on an exclusive upgrade ticket.
The downside of using mathilda or any high capacity ammo HG is, you tend to use the ammo and realize you will run out HG ammo fast because no control management
My go to is the Punisher pistol with the laser sight. Awesome for wooden shields and it's good for the regenerators. It's also good for hard to reach weak spots that are sometimes covered.
You kind of passed over the fact that the Punisher has the Penetration Perk just like your favorite SMG the LE 5. I felt it’s one of the better options personally. Great video! Thanks for showcasing everything!
Blacktail and Matilda is what carried me through the Professional Minimalist challenge (there was no reason for me to play on Pro except a good challenge)
Punisher is my favorite. Being able to punch through multiple enemies is great. It was my main for my whole first play through. Made quick work of shield guys in the castle!
I really like how attached I got to the weapons as I leveled them up and used them more frequently I regretted selling my leveled up skull crusher for the striker instantly. Such a good game!
I prioritized maxing out the Sentinel 9 immediately. It just feels like the right gun. I also prioritize the Punisher. Each gun so far is fun in it's own way. I want to get the Matilda and stock next and max that out. It looks useful for the insect enemies to me
I love how all the handguns are well balanced and optimal for many different play styles. The punisher is great if you can kite enemies into a choke point and hit multiple enemies at once. Greatly saves ammo
Red 9 all the way. I actually prefer the lower fire rate because it helps keep my shots on target. Also the accuracy is only a problem if you're trying to snipe with it which you shouldn't be using a handgun for that in the first place.
Red9 has been my favorite since the original, but the Punisher in the remake is in my opinion godlike. I typically use the MP5 as my standard weapon, but whenever I see two enemies line up, I use my Punisher. It saves a ton of ammo and allows you to deal with multiple enemies at once. I'm not really sure what it is, but it feels so good to use it.
I went to do a NG+ professional run. I know I couldn't get the cat ears but I got the Chicago Sweeper and Ashley's armor so I'm fine with that to get the cat ears on a fresh save. Up until I made enough money to buy the infinite rocket launcher to finish my playthrough, I only kept the Matilda, maxed out with the stock and a fuck ton of ammo. Because this is the best SMG in the game. It's an SMG that uses the pistol ammo instead. Even on professional, it melts enemies and also crowd control really wells
This time I feel like the balanced the handguns pretty well. They all have their use, depending on your playstyle. In og RE4 the power of the Red9 was just too great to ignore. I started out with the Red9 but switched to the Blacktail for the second half of the game because the faster fire rate, better handling and smaller inventory size seemed more useful to me than the little bit of extra power you get with the Red9. Blacktail basically seems like the most well rounded gun. I still have to test the other handguns. Laser sight coupled with 5x crit could be worth it, but it seems a little hit or miss based on your crit luck.
You gotta admit, the Matilda gun is pretty impressive (if you add the stock with it). If you press and hold the trigger, it bursts 3 bullets at a time, but if you were to spam the trigger (keep pressing and releasing the trigger), it bursts the bullets so much faster. Its because of that, i managed to kill a couple of El Gigante in 5-7 seconds flat (a little more depending on the accuracy and the recoile).
My favorite has been the punisher and the blacktail. Punisher I like for how it handles and the penetration. blacktail I dont mind it not having a sight its good for double taps.
Just subbed to your channel. Love the content. Matilda Gang all day!!! This gun is just fun!! 4:50 My favorite handgun & gun in the game! Even more than the Chicago Sweeper. Always love the sweeper, but the difference in deleting enemies really shows on professional. I still believe the sub machine guns should fire just as fast as the Matilda. The rapid fire capability makes the DPS just ridiculous! What i do to save ammo is keep the fire rate at lvl 1-2 to help with the crazy fire rate if I’m not using cat ears. Also use silver/classic attache case and handgun charm to help craft handgun ammo. P.S. All guns are fun to use as i still switch up for different play throughs. I still use the Blacktail, SG-09/ Sentinel 9, and punisher.
Honestly my favorite in this game is the Silver Ghost, the damage is decent and the laser sight with the exclusive makes it a crit machine with perfect accuracy, for my minimalist run I used the SG for regular enemies and the Red 9 for bosses
The Red 9 is absolutely a pocket sniper when you allow it to come to rest for a second or two between shots. It was downing later game enemies at full upgrades in just a headshot or two if not staggering them allowing for an even easier kill on the first shot. It's definitely my favorite for punching power paired right along side the semi auto shotgun that could easily chest shot people and punch them clean in half.
Blacktail is so slept on!!! second highest damage output, fastest fire rate and reload speed, takes up the least inventory, and the accuracy is better than the stats convey imo. I can constantly be backpedaling or strafing and that reticle goes almost nowhere - the red9 with stock has a much higher precision stat, but as soon as you move, the reticle takes a lunch break. Blacktail is OP for speedruns because you can always reliably plan ahead. I always know roughly how much handgun ammo I need (2-3 body shots per ganado), thus making it extremely easy to manage resources/attaché cases. just my opinion but relying on the crit chance handguns during a speed run can throw a wrench into things if you get unlucky. using Blacktail makes me feel like i’m always in control, or at least moreso.
I love all the guns in this game but I would have to say my top three favorites are the red 9, the blacktail and the sentinel nine for the pistol choices, I just finished getting the Chicago sweeper using New Game Plus mode with professional difficulty and I will probably try for the S Plus a professional mode very soon and hope to get the handcannon as well pretty soon as the hand Cannon is now the only unlockable weapon I'm missing.
I just did the same last night, and somehow my ng+ pro run was faster than my hardcore run my 30 minutes lmao, (my final time on ng+ pro was 2hr 40, not that fast compared to other speedrunners, but yee lol)
@@bananajacob6182 it's easy to speed around with new game plus especially if you have the invite rocket launcher, but even if you don't you still have all your upgraded weapons from your previous playthrough and well they've definitely make a difference on professional mode versus a fresh start on professional mode. Lol, the thing that bothers me the most isn't the difficulty overall or how fast I need to complete the game it's mostly the saves. I have a really big habit of saving a lot lol
Oh yeah for sure, I'm not that complex when it comes to speedruns, i just enjoy beating my own times, and I'll eventually do a pro new game speedrun, i just take a while to learn stuff lol
I'm just happy that each handguns (and every weapon in general) have their own fans I've been using the fully upgraded Silver Ghost with the laser for nostalgia sake but plan on switching soon, maybe the Punisher for the castle section
ikr! I love seeing this many passionate gamers discussing which ones are their favorites! It's also really nice that the devs took the time and thought about how to balance everything properly where there is no 1 best gun in the game! All the weapons are viable and caters to each playstyle. 🙂
On the punisher, dunno if you are aware but that pistol, despite being way lower on the damage department, for some god forsaken reason, causes waaaay more stagger on enemies. The effects are more noticeable on professional as ganados are more difficult to stagger in general.
The blacktail is the best in the whole game, especially when completely upgraded with the 1.5x damage which makes it 3.60 for power output each round, and also it has great accuracy and recoil control
That's exactly what I did. NG+ on professional, I sold all my guns except the Matilda and it carried me until I was about to buy the infinite rocket launcher.
That's funny, I did the exact opposite. Used the red 9 a long time, loved it.. but it can be a little.. slow in style. Always waiting for that bloom to close. Also, it's almost too powerful.. kinda felt like just sniping the guys before they could get to me. So switched to sentinel 9. Not because I think its better.. just because it's still pretty good, but forces me to still play.
@@karenamyx2205 I love the ammo capacity on it. And with the 5 times multiplier on critical hits you can basically snipe with it lol. I love the sentinel 9 I still use it often. As far as the red nine’s bloom to close… i 100% agree. On my 4th play through I’m using the black tail. It’s nice takes up less space and is a good all around weapon. I don’t think there is a “bad” pistol in the game.
I used the Punisher the whole game because I want the real one, it's based on the first gen FN 5.7 even though in game it uses 9mm instead of 5.7x28mm. Love FN's stuff I have one of their FN509 Tactical handguns.
When using infinite ammo the matilda is the go to, no questions asked, but on a regular playthrough I always prefer the red9. I almost never craft handgun ammo and so I want the higher power. Just making the most out of each bullet. The accuracy isn't an issue with the stock and sitting still for a sec, and the fire rate doesn't bother me since I sit still for the accuracy lmao
Red9 still is the best for my play style which is really slow and focused on headshots. While the other handguns are great they don’t suit my play style. Finished my hardcore run will attempt the professional next
Thanks for making these videos. Man, this remake is so good, I feel like a kid again. I was never allowed to play Rated M games when I was younger, and this was my first one. The consoles my family had were mainly Nintendo as they were more kid-friendly, so RE4 was an even bigger deal to me at the time, and I fell in love with the guns specifically. I'm sad that the Red 9 isn't as good as it used to be, but I really like that you made a video about the Magnums before, because I had no idea the reason people didn't use the Killer7 in the past was because it didn't have an exclusive upgrade. Really glad that gun got the treatment it deserved, and I appreciate you showcasing each weapon and comparing them. It's helpful and fun to see.
I went into this game fully expecting to exclusively use the Red-9, since I loved it so much in the original game and think it's a cool gun irl However, I've been finding myself drawn much closer to the Blacktail. Basically almost on par in terms of damage per shot, but the higher ROF, reload speed, and small inventory space makes me like the blacktail slightly more
Precision: Silver Ghost, Punisher, Sentinel Nine. Low damage but high rewards for precise aim (high crit rate for SG and S9, penetration for Punisher), can equip laser sight to aid in this. A bit situational and luck-based when lining up enemies and fishing for crits, but they're easy to come by (start with SG and S9 if you get the DLC, Punisher is only 5 spinals). Power: Red9, Blacktail, Matilda. Higher damage/DPS that can have issues with accuracy but hitting your targets anyway will drop them that much faster. Red9's issues are almost totally eliminated with the stock, Matilda eats ammo up like no one's business but got a buff to its firepower compared to OG RE4, making it viable alongside it being available in a new game. Blacktail is the least precise but makes up for it with fast aim, firing speed, and reload, and it really packs a punch to boot. My first playthrough was with the Punisher, which was good fun, but I found myself drawn to the good ol' Silver Ghost for almost every playthrough afterward. It's cheaper to upgrade, I don't worry about damage too much since I see it as a tool to stun enemies for melee purposes. If you run into shield enemies, Riot Gun or Skull Shaker. Red9 is also great, just make sure you use the stock and hope you're fine with less inventory space. Blacktail was better than I first thought, which is nice since it was my second favorite handgun in the original (Silver Ghost was my favorite there, too). Matilda is more or less a NG+/Cat Ears toy to me, but I may need to try it on a New Game to see if I like it.
The red 9 was so much fun in the original, found it on my first playthrough on the boat and got so excited and was very quickly let down with how much they nerfed the accuracy and fire rate and sold it pretty quick without every going back... Black Tail has been my go to for how reliable it is overall with damage and accuracy, decent fire rate and a compact size for less inventory space, just feels like the best gun overall in my opinion, but I haven't tried the punisher yet and will probably do a playthrough with that coming up. Really wish the laser sight could go on all weapons as that would make more guns feel more viable, just feels so frustrating to miss headshots purely because the crosshairs are so wide on a lot of guns.
I never used Matilda until I got cat ears. But after I got them I used it and blacktail on the pistol only challenge run and holy crap blacktail is good. And Matilda is cathartic to use lol melting chainsaw dudes and bosses in seconds it was fun.
Used the Red9 on multiple playthroughs, do wish the rate of fire was higher. I found myself liking the Blacktail more than I though I would, very versatile. The Matilda is just bonkers lol like you said it’s just like an SMG. Might switch up my handgun to the Sentinel or base handgun on another casual run.
My problem with the Mathilda is that as someone who used it for the majority of her playthrough on my first run, it’s really difficult to use on higher difficulties because it eats through ammo too fast, and often the three round burst doesn’t group shots together very well and 1 or even 2 of the shots can easily miss on enemies depending on the range or how lucky you are with bullet bloom, making it waste a lot of ammunition which can be scarce, and with how difficult it is to stagger enemies compared to the original might make you miss a crucial melee. I haven’t played on Normal or Assisted so I can’t speak for those difficulties, but it’s hard to recommend for hardcore and professional mode imo
As someone who has played 7 times many on hardcore I would say the black tail for the village ( chapter 1-6 ) punisher or red 9 for castle (chapter 7-12) and Matilda for island ( chapter 13-16) but if you have the spinel go Matilda with stock ASAP I’m gonna skip the maths but if you have a fully upgraded Matilda with stock It does 360 damage per mag
My favorite 2 have always been the starter silver ghost and blacktail. Even moreso now with the attention to detail. Any more detailed and id friggin lose it honestly. My only gripe is that the black tail can't have laser sight but the size and overall efficiency are a great trade off. Silver ghost is right next to it as it's a perfectly balanced gun and honestly you could probly beat the game with either gun alone and still get s+
Seriously, I've been upgrading my Blacktail on NG+, and the fact that it takes up less than half the space of a Red 9 while being almost as ammo-efficient and having higher burst DPS thanks to its ROF and reload speeds makes it invaluable to me.
@@angryscotsman93 precisely. Wether old or new Black tail will see you through 🤣. But you know what would be even better? GIVE US THE WESKER SUPPRESSOR AS SN ATTACHMENT
On my first run through the blacktail was definitely my favorite w/ the ammo capacity, accuracy, and decent damage. Never even unlocked the Matilda but definitely going back for it now lol
For the minimalist runs Matilda is a must have, it basically fires faster than the infinite chicago and can outdps it, as it has more damage per bullet, if you have infinite ammo, that’s pretty much the only handgun you’ll need, although I would also suggest rocking the stock handgun for the long range sniper kills
@@Anomalyy666 red9 is good on prof when you can take your time, it doesnt have the best rate of fire, and terrible accuracy, but it'll help you maximize your damage per bullet, but not an optimal long range handgun, anything with a laser pointer is better
For me the punisher is my favorite handgun the red9 is ok but the punisher just looks way cooler and the fact it can shoot through two targets is why I fell in love with this handgun 🔫 ❤
Dude Mitilda was so slept on, first video I seen that recognizes how dope it is. IF YOU HAVE CAT EARS OFC. Burns amo soooooo fast. I did my pistol and knife only run with it.
I’m on my third run rn. I’m somewhat decent at the game. Doing Knife/ Handgun run with maxed out starting knife and starting pistol. I have no accessories to help me at all😂 I only got to as far as to the castles gigante. I have no idea how I’m gonna pull off Salazar tbh. Doing the no merchant as well, had to use healing by now
@@Scottysaweet why not infinite rocket launcher for no healing run? I know it removes the challenge/fun but just curious. Or are you combining it with handgun/knife run?
If we are talking about the best DPS without burning thru your ammo, blacktail is the best. With exclusive it does 3.6 dmg a bullet, second strongest in the Game, red9 is only 4.05dmg this time around, only 0.4dmg more than Blacktail per bullet, but Blacktail sports almost as twice fire rate and way better precisión even if the red9 has the stock, so Blacktail outDPSs red9. Red9 is severily nerfed this time around compared to OG while Blacktail is almost the same (slightly nerfed too, but every gun is slightly nerfed compared to OG, but Red9 got nerfed harder). So in summary, if its a cat ears run = Matilda Regular run all weapons allowed, no cat ears= Silver Ghost/Blacktail (for bosses you would use shotguns/rifle/Magnum, overcoming the weakness of silverghost which is bosses/elites) Pistol only run, no cat ears = Blacktail. The Blacktail does it all, breezes thru mobs, and is really strong against bosses/elites, second strongest in the game DPS wise (first being Matilda), but Blacktail doesnt burn thru ammo.
Pistol only run, Matilda is still viable (i used blacktail+matilda during mine). Just only use it for tough enemies or bosses and keep resources/gunpowder on hand
I love the Blacktail's accuracy, I love the SG-09 R's crit hits with the laser sight, but my vote is the Red9. I've always loved power and versatility.
Red9 and sentinel seem to be the best imo the matilda is too unwieldy if your trying to save up ammo for a boss i find myself using the blacktail a lot too the punisher is very situational and thats it
The Sentinal Nine is what I prefer over the Silver Ghost. But ever since I discovered how the Matilda was essentially a handheld GAU-8 Avenger with cat ears I just couldn’t use anything else. It’s a power trip of a weapon in minimalist challenge lol
The stock of the red9 adds another 1,5x damage (there is a text for it) and that means depending on how the math works it is at least 5,4 to 6,025 damage (i guess its 5,4 or else there is very little reason to even consider the matilda over the red9). That is more then a fully upgraded base stingray (4,9 with sniper ammo) but with handgun ammo. What is realy holding the red9 back in the remake is the extremly nerfed accuracy even with a stock from the original.

@Kenndrik how do you get unlimited ammo for all other weapons? Please don't say "mod"
Matilda+ stock and cat ears is all you need that thing is a beast
Crazy thing about the red nine, it shoots wayyy faster on the mine cart mission.
Punisher is a god-sent for castle level, those wooden shields are completely bypassed by this amazing handgun.
and it hurts to see people that stream/record this game just selling this gun cuz "waaaa smol damage" and then struggling in the Castle
I'm running Punisher throughout my first playthrough (and it's hardcore difficulty). I'm at the final Krauser fight. The Punisher has served me well this far. Definitely not weak by any means.
I definitely think the punisher is the best handgun in the game.
They've really buff punisher this time.
I honestly almost never used red9 in both original and the remake, punisher is good enough and (at least in the original, but its cost in the remake isn't horrible either) is for free. Yeah it deals a bit less damage but it takes less space and is worth upgrading, also using a laser scope in the remake is hell better than stock for red9
Of course if I can buy blacktail, I will buy the blacktail, it's the good boi and only matilda and sentinel9 are better in this case
This will be really great for the Minimalist run. SG-09 and Matilda for mob clearing. Red9 and Blacktail for boss killing, and Punisher for Regenerator.
matilda slams all of those just by itself if you have cat ears. I cleared my Minimalist + Frugal run with matilida alone
Just use Matilda for everything, I just use the cat ears with it and destroy everything
Assisted difficulty and any gun for big brains 🌝
Who uses handgun to kill bosses?
Sg09 is the Best at doing the job
Oh I just knifed the regenerators I also did it on hardcore new game meaning my only weapons in order to have ammo was blacktail and the knife
i love that everyone uses a different gun, there’s not one unanimous gun that everyone picks. for me it’s the punisher for the 5x penetration and mag size. the SG is my other pick for the crit rate.
I personally enjoy blacktail for its compact size in the case and speed. It comes in second in terms of power but i just love speed i guess lol
@@BlackWinchester I really sleep on Blacktail in the original, big mistake to be honest.
But they're all valid picks this time too. In the original the Red9 was just way too good to ever justify picking anything else.
I maxed out the Punisher and loved it then tried the other ones and don't even come close to it. Punisher GOAT.
I love that variety. Reading through the comments & seeing so many different preferences. We need more of that in gaming, instead of this meta crap
The Blacktail & Riot Shotgun combo is carrying me through my first playthrough. I love those guns.
Nice! 👍
You should try the crossbow thing with the reusable bolts, at lv 5 it does really good stun damage
@@chaikagaz I'll try it out tonight.
Same here currently
Love that every gun in the game serves a purpose, there is no one gun that's best at everything or in every role.
People keep saying the crossbow sucks but its hands down my favorite weapon
@@buckyhurdle4776 I like it but it feels pretty impractical to use sometimes, but it is good for killing Mendez in 1 second on each phase lmao
Blacktail, thing is so reliable even in Hardcore. I pretty much prefer it over the Red9 now compared to OG RE4.
The Blacktail is nuts. Almost the same damage as a Red9, way faster fire rate and reload, and takes up no space in your inventory. If it could use the laser sight, it would be the best handgun easily.
It's because enemies here are a bit more tankie so it's better to hit multiple targets with 1 bullet
@@Odinsday I installed a mod that makes it able to use the laser sight and it's a chef's kiss
Solid choice.👍
black tail is and always was the best in re4 2005. red9 takes way to much inv space. its funny seeing this generation all scream red9 is the best lol. and then say i need inv space lol
Personally I've found the punisher the most well rounded so far. Laser sight for amazing precision, decent enough power for headshots and staggering, decent rate of fire and the penetration is such a nice passive thing helping in almost every fight
Nice! 👍
I love that every gun is viable throughout.
I hate having to trade in a weapon I like just because the later game guns are better.
Yeah, I'm a weapon collector myself so I'm trying to keep my stable full.
this is one of the things I didn't like about RE8.
That's the fun part about the remake. Everything has its pros and cons. 👍
@@VillaXBurquez Yeah the Red9 is currently what I'm using. Once I get enough pesates to max out a gun I'll possibly get the sentinel 9 and max it out.
I used it and the skull shaker on my first playthrough and the huge mag size is very nice with the crit chance
The DLC pistol [Sentinel Nine] is the best for me for the attachments:
Extended Mag, Muzzle Break, and Laser Sight for the Remake.
First time Leon used it was in the Anime Movie RESIDENT EVIL VENDETTA
Not gona lie, I really love that gun on my second playthrough.
You don’t choose those attachments lmao
This isn’t call of duty buddy you can’t add a muzzle break
@@nutricartel it’s already on the gun, buddy.
👍

@@joshuawhitford5509 the power of modding and testing lol
But I'll be real, it's incomplete info and mostly just word of mouth on modding Discords atm.
Red9
Been enjoying the Punisher with the penetration through 5 targets.
That was my go to for my first playthrough. It was my workhorse and was great for dealing with crowds.
love the punisher shield dudes and stunning multiple enemies is fantastic. Only big problem is that you have to be careful when shooting near Ashley.
@@JT-yl9yt I did shot Ashley in hardcore a lot using this gun. but it really is a great gun
Yeah but when do you ever get to line up 5 bad guys in single file? That perk honestly never gets much use in my experience.
Cool video though, I like that everybody has their own go to weapons, it’s good that they’re all viable.
i prefer the sg over blacktail it just feels better
Yeah the SG is pretty underwhelming along with the Blacktail which really surprised me.
So fun.
Damn, so every Handgun is viable pretty much?! That's a nice change of pace from the Red9/Blacktail dominated Meta in the Original RE4.
SG was my personal favorite back in the OG but I do like how everything works in the remake. All solid options.
Its true that in original game red9 and blacktail where dominating but when fully upgraded starting handgun was the best with that insane critical hit rate
'meta' it's a single-player game 🤡
@@Ovenman940 No shit! How long did it take you to find out?
I love the punisher, it's particularly effective against wooden shielded enemies. It can be a good overall beast of a weapon when the power is maxed out. You can also attach the laser sight.
Nice! 👍
shotgun the shields is by far the best method.
This was a main reason why I didn't stick with the SG since in the end crit chance values might be getting adjusted depending on how well/bad you do
so what handgun would you recommend for a proffessional run with s run for the cat ears?
Bro my first run I kept getting my ass handed to me (didn't die a lot but fights were hard) but I never got enough ammo to comfortably survive. So I was in a limbo of hard fights with close no ammo. 7th
@@shaggytoph For my cat ears run and no bonus weapons run I used Red9/Blacktail. Endgame you're hardly ever going to land consistent crits on AI so raw damage is just better for S+ runs. My personal preference is Red9 because of its design but Blacktail is also pretty clean to use.
This was a Great Info 👍🏻
For me, Crit is usually the Meta in ANY game so i always went for those type of guns. 🙂
Played the whole game with the Sentinel Nine handgun myself.
Fully upgraded and using the laser. :)
Me too
Me too, pretty good gun with the full upgrade crits and laser

Need to mention!
SG-09 and DLC weapon x5 crit chance exclusive works on every melee attack in the game while they are equiped.
With +20% crit chance on melee you pretty much start oneshoting most enemies on hardest difficulty on stagger melee.
its a bug from original RE4 that they probably decided to make a feature in remake.
Also i believe BlackTail dont realy stuns enemies that often as other guns
What exactly is a bug from the original? And what do you mean by exclusive works on every melee attack?
@@gregthesplintercell crit modifiers carry on on mellee attacks. Means that x5 crit chance increase every kick and suplex crit chance, and those crits deal x4 damage

Blacktail is a good gun for quick killing and in number it is equal to the red9 in stun. But blacktail take age to focus and it is accurate enough to just be use without focus for killing so it seems it don't stun a lot.
Every gun is incredible. Sentinel 9 is my personal favorite.
The devs did a great job with balancing out the game! All guns being viable is how most devs should handle their games! Sentinel Nine, nice! 👍

Holy hell they upgraded Matilda’s fire rate from RE2. It’s basically a TMP with the stock
Oh yeah, and believe it the irl version vp70 fires even faster than the matilda in game 😌 one burst sounds like a single bullet
Yup 👍
Red 9 for my first play through was really nice, but the sentinel 9 is probably my favorite all around. Plus it looks amazing and has laser sight compatibility.
You’re the first person I’ve seen talking about the Matilda’s burst overlap. I found it out on my handgun only run, and I was melting everything that stood in my way 😂 with cat ears, Matilda is way better than even the Chicago sweeper
Yup! 👍
I chose to do knives only, handguns are overrated
@@chaikagaz knives are unironically more OP than handguns 🗿
I'm still on my first playthrough and am currently rocking the blacktail. I feel like it is the best "all arounder." Although I do miss having the laser dot on every handgun. The matilda just seems unfair so I decided to not use it for my first playthrough. I do want to give the punisher another chance too, seems like it would be helpful for the castle section. I was also initially disappointed by the red9's nerfing, but honestly, I appreciate the balance between all the handguns more. Loving this game damn near as much as the original!
This is easily my 2nd favorite game of all time, taking place over the Original! Solid choices btw! 👍
If the red9 had a laser it would have been far too OP, like in the original but in the remake you can also move and shoot at the same time so yeah red9 W laser would have destroy the game even on pro.

Krauser is by far my favorite. 🙂
Nice! 👍
I found the stock mostly just taking up inventory doesn't make enough of a difference to spend the spinels on it IMO, those would be better used on an exclusive upgrade ticket.
Thanks for the video ! So for the pro you recommand S9 ?
I'm a re4 purist, I always default to the Silver ghost handgun, crits are so satisfyingly good, and...come on the design is sick in general
I agree, it's the best looking for sure.
Same but i slowly converted to the Sentinel Nine in my NG+ runs and been stuck with it ever since. 😂
@@Kenndrik for NG+ i only use the infinite rocket launcher. But i recently unlocked the chicago sweeper and handcannon. Lol
The downside of using mathilda or any high capacity ammo HG is, you tend to use the ammo and realize you will run out HG ammo fast because no control management
All depends on how you play. I would recommend using the starter case though so that you can get some of your ammo back easily. 🙂
Cat ears...

It looks useful for the insect enemies to me
Yea my go to weapon combo is sentinel 9 and once enemies get too close I bust out the punisher 😂😂

Blacktail for me, I love the Red9, but the reload is too slow even after fully upgraded, and the stock takes too much space

👍
This time I feel like the balanced the handguns pretty well. They all have their use, depending on your playstyle. In og RE4 the power of the Red9 was just too great to ignore.
I started out with the Red9 but switched to the Blacktail for the second half of the game because the faster fire rate, better handling and smaller inventory size seemed more useful to me than the little bit of extra power you get with the Red9. Blacktail basically seems like the most well rounded gun.
I still have to test the other handguns. Laser sight coupled with 5x crit could be worth it, but it seems a little hit or miss based on your crit luck.
All them are viable! The devs did a really good job with balancing the remake! It all just depends on what YOU want.🙂
My favorite handguns are the Matilda and the Red 9. I still love those guns to death in the original. And even more so here
Nice! 👍
👍
👍
The Red 9 is absolutely a pocket sniper when you allow it to come to rest for a second or two between shots. It was downing later game enemies at full upgrades in just a headshot or two if not staggering them allowing for an even easier kill on the first shot. It's definitely my favorite for punching power paired right along side the semi auto shotgun that could easily chest shot people and punch them clean in half.
👍
That's exactly my Playstyle too bro! Getting instakills with the red9 is so satisfying
Red9 w/ stock and the Riot Gun is an S-tier loadout.
👍
I'm just happy that each handguns (and every weapon in general) have their own fans
I've been using the fully upgraded Silver Ghost with the laser for nostalgia sake but plan on switching soon, maybe the Punisher for the castle section
👍
Hmm ima use it now maybe there is more it than just penetration 🤔
The blacktail is the best in the whole game, especially when completely upgraded with the 1.5x damage which makes it 3.60 for power output each round, and also it has great accuracy and recoil control
Sentinel 9 is definitely my favorite but Matilda is also great if you have the infinite launcher and are working on getting the Chicago.
That's exactly what I did. NG+ on professional, I sold all my guns except the Matilda and it carried me until I was about to buy the infinite rocket launcher.
Good choice! 👍

I was using the sentinel 9 for most of my first play through. But I switched to the red 9 and it’s now my go to handgun
I hope we see an update where we can put lasers on any of our guns in store. Any items in our safe or typewriter whatever you call it
I used the Punisher the whole game because I want the real one, it's based on the first gen FN 5.7 even though in game it uses 9mm instead of 5.7x28mm. Love FN's stuff I have one of their FN509 Tactical handguns.

I wanted to see a preview of the Mathilda fire rate and I was not disappointed
Matilda go brrrrrrrrr 😂
When using infinite ammo the matilda is the go to, no questions asked, but on a regular playthrough I always prefer the red9. I almost never craft handgun ammo and so I want the higher power. Just making the most out of each bullet. The accuracy isn't an issue with the stock and sitting still for a sec, and the fire rate doesn't bother me since I sit still for the accuracy lmao
👍
Red9 still is the best for my play style which is really slow and focused on headshots. While the other handguns are great they don’t suit my play style. Finished my hardcore run will attempt the professional next
Good luck on the run! 👍
Surprise surprise but re4 was on the nintendo gamecube and the wii.
@@chaikagaz correct. My first M game was RE4 on the GameCube.
I went into this game fully expecting to exclusively use the Red-9, since I loved it so much in the original game and think it's a cool gun irl
However, I've been finding myself drawn much closer to the Blacktail. Basically almost on par in terms of damage per shot, but the higher ROF, reload speed, and small inventory space makes me like the blacktail slightly more
Especially if you count the stock in
👍
Having bought the deluxe edition, yeah, the Sentinel Nine is pretty good. Still enjoyed the Red 9, but I might have to give the Blacktail a chance.
👍
👍
Yeah unless you have the cat ears and even then why use the Matilda anyway when you can get infinite ammo on a magnum.
true!
👍
Solid choices! 👍
On my first run through the blacktail was definitely my favorite w/ the ammo capacity, accuracy, and decent damage. Never even unlocked the Matilda but definitely going back for it now lol
I love the SG09 with laser .. It’s too good didn’t even switch out thru my first play through hahah
i switched it for the blacktail then switched back it feels a lot better
👍
For the minimalist runs Matilda is a must have, it basically fires faster than the infinite chicago and can outdps it, as it has more damage per bullet, if you have infinite ammo, that’s pretty much the only handgun you’ll need, although I would also suggest rocking the stock handgun for the long range sniper kills
I thought red9 was the best?
@@Anomalyy666 red9 is good on prof when you can take your time, it doesnt have the best rate of fire, and terrible accuracy, but it'll help you maximize your damage per bullet, but not an optimal long range handgun, anything with a laser pointer is better
👍
I feel like the blacktail is the overall best due to high damage high fire rate good reload speed and decent accuracy
Nothing wrong with that! 👍
For me the punisher is my favorite handgun the red9 is ok but the punisher just looks way cooler and the fact it can shoot through two targets is why I fell in love with this handgun 🔫 ❤
The laser sight is insanely powerful, I wish more guns were compatible with it
Great video. Please upload more for the other weapons 👌
Dude Mitilda was so slept on, first video I seen that recognizes how dope it is. IF YOU HAVE CAT EARS OFC. Burns amo soooooo fast. I did my pistol and knife only run with it.
But by the time you get the cat ears, do you even need the Matilda??
@@kagekun1198 you do, especially for getting 2 achieves.
Knife / Handgun only + no Healing run.
@@Scottysaweet skill issue
The starting handgun will always be my favorite, that x5 crit headshot chance is always so satisfying
So in summary, if its a cat ears run = Matilda
Regular run all weapons allowed, no cat ears= Silver Ghost/Blacktail (for bosses you would use shotguns/rifle/Magnum, overcoming the weakness of silverghost which is bosses/elites)
Pistol only run, no cat ears = Blacktail.
The Blacktail does it all, breezes thru mobs, and is really strong against bosses/elites, second strongest in the game DPS wise (first being Matilda), but Blacktail doesnt burn thru ammo.
Because of your well thought out comment I’m gonna give it a shot, nice post
imma try this
Looking at stats this was what I was thinking
Pistol only run, Matilda is still viable (i used blacktail+matilda during mine). Just only use it for tough enemies or bosses and keep resources/gunpowder on hand
@@wchill1337 Yeah exactly. For a pistol only run you can have more than one pistol (assuming NG+) each for every scenario and you're fine.
I love the Blacktail's accuracy, I love the SG-09 R's crit hits with the laser sight, but my vote is the Red9. I've always loved power and versatility.
Red9 and sentinel seem to be the best imo the matilda is too unwieldy if your trying to save up ammo for a boss i find myself using the blacktail a lot too the punisher is very situational and thats it
I only use the Matilda when i have unlimited amo - turns everything into pink clouds. Its stronger than both SMGs you find too
Red9 seems to be the best all round. Punisher is better for regeneradors, but you don’t really use a pistol on those guys.
👍
They did a great job with making every gun a viable option, simply comes down to preference and play style, can’t get better than that
True! Love it when devs care about their fans/player base. 🙂
Blacktail is the best
Bruh
Silver Ghost Chads Vs Sentinel One And Blacktail Virgins
Red9 is better
@@Solanine32 Silver Ghost has that crit rizz
Killer7 is the best
The Sentinal Nine is what I prefer over the Silver Ghost. But ever since I discovered how the Matilda was essentially a handheld GAU-8 Avenger with cat ears I just couldn’t use anything else. It’s a power trip of a weapon in minimalist challenge lol
👍
In the OG game the Red9 did 6 damage with 1 shot.
👍
The stock of the red9 adds another 1,5x damage (there is a text for it) and that means depending on how the math works it is at least 5,4 to 6,025 damage (i guess its 5,4 or else there is very little reason to even consider the matilda over the red9). That is more then a fully upgraded base stingray (4,9 with sniper ammo) but with handgun ammo.
What is realy holding the red9 back in the remake is the extremly nerfed accuracy even with a stock from the original.
Great video man you should do the shotguns next, my favorites so far the Sentinel nine and Red 9 and Punisher
Ty! Been busy with the other videos and hopefully you've been fun in the meantime! 🙂
RED 9 all the way boy.
👍
