On this particular unit there are multiple sensors that are cylindrical in shape and connected via a very thin ribbon cable that runs along the entire housing of this TCM.
There are 3 different versions of this. VGS 1, 2, and 3. Each one might look very similar but will have different software. You can determine what version your vehicle has by the stamped information on the unit itself.
What Vehicles Have a 722.9?
The 722.9 VGS TCM conductor plate can be found on many models of Mercedes-Benz. Here are the various models that have this TCM:
Mercedes C-Class
2011-2018 Mercedes-Benz W204 (C63 AMG, C63 AMG Black Series)
2014 Mercedes-Benz W205 (C180)
Mercedes E-Class
2009-2016 Mercedes-Benz W212 (E200AMG 7G-Tronic,E63AMG)
2009-2013 Mercedes-Benz W212 (E200AMG 7G-Tronic)
Mercedes S-Class
2013-2017 Mercedes-Benz W222 (all models except Maybach S 500 and Maybach S 500 4MATIC)
2017-2020 Mercedes-Benz W222 (V12 models only)
Mercedes SLK-Class
2011-2015 Mercedes-Benz R172
Mercedes CLK-Class
2005-2010 Mercedes-Benz CLK-Class (C209) (post facelift)
What Does It Do?
This computer has 4 speed sensors integrated into the unit to monitor and control specific functions. These respectively control the ‘Turbine, Internal, Output, and Selection Range Sensor’.
Each speed sensor will display a specific set of trouble codes and will allow you to determine which sensors are faulty.
The unique design of this TCM can be attributed to the way it mounts to the valve body. As you can see on this unit, there are deliberate circular gaps along the outer edges for the valve body solenoids.
Symptoms of a failing TCM:
If one of these sensors is not working right your vehicle may experience:
Gears shifting intermittently
Stuck in a particular gear
Vehicle goes into limp mode
Not able to select any gears manually
How to Diagnose a Faulty TCM:
If you have any of the symptoms mentioned and have access to a good OBDII scan tool that can communicate with the TCM, scan the transmission control module specifically to see what codes show up.
If your scan tool shows any of these codes displayed on the screen, then this could indicate that your TCM unit needs to be rebuilt:
The signal from component Y3/8N1 Turbine Speed Sensor is not available or defective
The signal from component Y3/8N2 Internal Speed Sensor is not available or defective
The signal from component Y3/8N3 Output Speed Sensor is not available or defective
The signal from component Y3/8S1 Selection Range Sensor is not available or defective

What To Do:
Visit UpFix.com and find the service repair page for your particular unit. If the codes and issues match what you’re currently experiencing on your vehicle, send it in for repair.
TCMs can be expensive to replace and re-program. Here at UpFix we have a better solution - Send in your original unit for repairs.
A used one can have similar problems and will need to be programmed anyways. A new one will cost much more and there can be a backorder which means months of delays.
However by having your original unit refurbished, you can be assured that it will be plug-n-play without the need for any additional programming.
If you’re uncertain on how to remove the TCM you can either have a mechanic in your area remove it or find a tutorial online on the removal process.
It’s important to note that you only need to send in the TCM (conductor plate). Please remove it from the valve body itself as the valve body is much larger and heavier to ship and is not needed for repairs.
Don’t replace your failing automotive electronics - UpFix it!

Excellent work guys. Thank you.
Thanks for watching!
Hello I had a question. On my 2006 mercedes s430 i have a P730 code and it’s stuck in fourth gear. When I attempt to read transmission codes using my Autel MaxiDAS it says failed to connect. Do yall think a new TCM is needed?
This code isn't one supported for repairs however P0730 points to an issue with the TCM detecting an incorrect gear ratio.
Either solenoid is faulty, bad transmission mount, or filter and fluid needs to be serviced.
Some w220 S-Class owners have good results disconnecting the battery in the vehicle overnight to allow the TCM to go into a relearn mode.
Around how much is it to refurbish the TCM plate ?
Currently it is $369, here is more info

Whats the turn around time?
Currently, it is about 1-3 days.
Hi Upfix,
I'm getting code P2725 which leads to a solenoid issue, after replacing the Y3/8y6 B2 solenoid and swapping blue solenoids round I'm still getting the same issue? What can I do from here? Is a new conductor plate my only option now or is there something else I can try? I am getting the same symptoms as all the codes listed in your description.
Thanks.
P2725 - Indicates an issue with Pressure Control Solenoid E. This means the TCM detects an issue with the pressure control solenoid circuit.
First it's highly recommended to replace all solenoids on the TCM before re-installing back into the valve body. This ensures that the resistance levels on each circuit are within spec.
The solenoid itself should be getting between 10-25 ohms. Replacing only Y3/8y6 might not resolve the issue. Also, ensuring the fluid and filter are serviced and the right amount is inside the TCM will help.
The solenoids have all been replaced, fluids serviced, and wiring inspected for any shorts and still it's showing P2725 - it's most likely a defective valve body
In my case am getting code in w212 2012
U1138 CAN communication with component 'Auxiliary CURRENT and STORED oil pump has a malfunction
While we do support that year make and model as it does have a 722.9 TCM, the U1138 points to a network failure with the auxiliary oil pump not the TCM.
Check the CAN bus connections, the wiring and plugs for any issues, and lastly inspect the auxiliary oil pump itself for any faults.
@@upfixauto i replaced the tcm and now no code . But am facing an issue when i kickdown it stuck on 5500rpm and not shifting in any gear.
If normal drive it shift perfectly and smoothly in any gear at 5000 rpm.
Am facing this issue before and after the tcm replacement
@MaanzMotivation Yes, that is a strange one. After a TCM replacement, the transmission may need an adaptation or reset procedure to allow the TCM to relearn shifting patterns. This is particularly common in Mercedes-Benz transmissions. It can often be done via a diagnostic tool.
Were can I send it in to?

If I accidentally broke a piece of the conductor plate and the ribbon broke as well, can you transfer all of my components to a new plate for rebuild?
