I did my first marathon last Sunday and it was luckily successful. I wanted to do a sub 4h and finished at 3:49 at the Münster Marathon. I wanted to thank you for this podcast because I always heard 4 episodes on the long runs! It was the best entertainment for these runs
This episode came at the perfect time! I'm running my first marathon in just 2 weeks...I'm excited but nervous so I'm taking all the advice and info I can get!!
I quite enjoyed this week's pod cast, Rose was such a good guest 😁😁👍👍 you're smashing it! Now I want to mention that Marathon seems the holy grail on this channel, but it doesn't have to be. I have ran a marathon and I will continue to run more, but it only makes a small fraction of my running. I love running fast as well, I mean sub 20 minutes 5 km, fast and flowy trail courses, running in the track... The world of running is huge and I encourage viewers to not be frustrated if you can't run a marathon or ultra or simply don't want to, not all running revolves around the Marathon 😀 .
Just finished a 5k, and the seed of running a marathon has been taking root in my mind. When I finished the 5k, I wanted to be smiling when I got the finish line photo. It worked! I ran faster (and hit a new max HR).
My mantra on my first marathon last year in October age 60 (61 in December) was run at this pace to finish the race which worked for me, I will be using it again for my second in October this year and hoping to be a bit quicker 🤞🏻
I started at 51 and hope I'm still fit enough in my 60's. What has been a weakness that has been exposed as you aged and ran and how did you compensate for it?
I do intervals in my local park which is oval and just under 800m round. I run clockwise and 99% of other runners run anti-clockwise 😂😂 Rose Harvey - what a legend! Very humble and down to earth 🥰
Doesn't it make sense to run 1/2 in one direction and 1/2 in the other direction to balance the load as you corner? Maybe it 25 years of playing hockey, but that seems like the best way.
Ran my first marathon yesterday at Richmond: 30 degree heat, a dodgy knee and the aid stations ran out of water halfway around, so quite the baptism of fire! But I made it round - the next one can be the fast one!
Congrats for powering through^^ Did a HM at saturday at "only" 26-28°C and the heart rate after ~1h went up for 10+ beats compared to normally at the same pace. Probably would have been 10+ mins faster at 20°C or below, can´t even imagine doing a marathon in this heat.
Step #1 - Watch and practice The Running Channel's "Want Perfect Running Form? Do These Simple Things!" I started recording myself and trying to copy their form and I honestly made improvements. When I ran last night, I could feel when I my technique was on form and could return to form when I started to drag my feet.
I’m looking at training plans and have no idea what drills progression tempo etc are I have one pace and I seem to do ok I finished my half marathon in under 2.06
Great episode and enjoyed listening while out on my run yesterday. The 10k event you mentioned coming up later in the year, any chance it'll be in December? I live in NZ so don't get home to the UK very often. Heading back for the month of December this year, it would be lovely if I could sneak this in and a new shiny 10k PB too. Would love to get closer to 40 minutes. Thank you, Mark
Nice backdrop with the PUMA run club. I just recently bought my first pair of PUMA trainers. Never thought PUMA had advanced so much in the last years. I have always rated Asics as my go to brand but PUMA seems to have found the right sweet spot for runners. Keep it up PUMA. I am watching closely now that my interest has been triggered.
Getting ready for my first, one last long run then a taper... I feel like by the time the race comes I will be just itching for a long run. Anticipating it will be challenging to keep my pace reasonably low in the first half. Tips?
Would have loved to have heard a lot more questions from the audience and a lot more insights from Rose. Felt she didn't get the chance to share her expertise much. There was lots of chat about the panel's experience etc Otherwise thanks for an entertaining podcast.
Marathons are overrated. Shorter distances are so much more fun. Half marathons are simply the perfect race distance. Not too long, easier to train for and they don't exhaust you as much.
It probably depends on how fast. For me, I finish HMs in 2:15-2:30, and it's the longest distance I can actually "race". For marathons, I find that beyond 5 hours most people walk the last 7-8 miles or so, so yeah not as much fun I guess
Not sure they’re overrated, just very tough and hard to do. There is a reason why the masses haven’t run a marathon. It’s a true test! Just my thoughts…

No luck involved in a 3:49 marathon! Amazing time, brilliant effort 🎉

Berlin?
@@David-lt9jw No, a smaller local one in my home state! Staying close to home so family and friends can cheer me on :)
@@sckilham I see! Best of luck! I am running Berlin as my first marathon but I live here so it makes sense.
you got this! have fun!
Quick thank you - "smile if [spoiler prevention enabled] " mantra got me through the Great North Run last weekend with a smile on my face

Planning my first marathon next year at 37yr and this was such a great video. Thank you!
Awesome chat and Rose is a star! My goodness.
I’ve just completed my first half marathon last weekend and today have just entered my first marathon in Manchester

Great episode! It was lovely to join you all for the run club and see behind the scenes of the podcast! :D
Going on my first 20mile run tomorrow, I'm actually looking forward to the run. I'm enjoying these long distances really wel.
Best of luck!

@@Jimdaewong16 It probably does but when I run anti-clockwise it feels wrong. I’ll probably end up with one leg shorter than the other 🤣

We need more videos with Rose Harvey
I never realised until now that I only run one way through Battersea park haha I don't think I can go the other way, it would just feel weird

Brilliant! Really glad you could see a difference 😁
Have my first marathon May 2024 and I’m excited! It’s gonna be tough but if I can do a half I can do a full, right?! 😂
Nice stuff!
What would you advice one does on the evening (pm) after a long run training, just relax or put in a yoga/stretch session?
We would always recommend stretching after a long session 😁
I recently brought puma Deviate NITRO™ 2, enjoying it so far.
I’m looking at training plans and have no idea what drills progression tempo etc are I have one pace and I seem to do ok I finished my half marathon in under 2.06
This was very interesting👏👏
Glad you enjoyed it
Sydney marathon this Sunday thanks for the tips
Good luck!!
Ditto! Best of luck!
Thanks for a great podcast!
Going the opposite way on your favorite run just feels really strange, doesn't it?
great fun episode!
I'm running the Sydney marathon in a week as my first marathon, so I am hoping the beautiful scenery can distract me.

Running is 90% mental and 10% in the head.
After finishing a marathon the last thing I want to do is eat - I need about half an hour and a lie down

what watch is Sarah wearing?
Its the Garmin 265 😁
I'm curious if there are differences between how men and women run or how men and women should train?
Great question!
damn crazy eyes. thumbnail actually scared me 😅

my fav running channel ❤️. Sarah, notice me senpai 😁

which are FAST R2?
Am I crazy or does the guest look a lot like Femke Bol?
I don't see it.
A bit Blake Lively for me…
Can't say we see it 🤔
Sarah's my new bestfriend.
Really enjoyed that podcast but would have loved you guys letting the guest talk more and not to keep over talking her!
Talk and work. Too much taking not enough running 😝
