Installment 4 of my Mastodon Leviathan full album guitar cover!!! Just learned this one yesterday morning, and boy i can tell you... Island is a bitch to play. Some of the riffs in this one (like the fast sliding octave riff) are totally nasty to get a hold of. And there are times where it feels like the drums are ahead OR behind the beat... i wonder if they recorded this album to a click, or just winged it? Either way, it makes playing along tight a real challenge! Awesome song, though.
Playing my Ibanez RG470 swirl with the incredible Dimarzio Titan in the bridge position. This is really one of my favorite pickups of all time, it sounds SO good! And this guitar has always been tough to hone in, tone-wise. As soon as i installed the Titan, i was done chasing down the right pickup. Amazing.
Playing through my Kemper Profiler, using a JCM800 Drive profile from the Amp Factory that i have dialed in as close to the album tone as i can get. I love it!
Thanks for watching, stay tuned for more Mastodon covers!
Oh shit yeah man, you always cover the best songs.
Badass Sound you got there man
Thanks sir!
I think I read somewhere that Brann didn't record to a click until Crack the Skye
Remember Ben; when in doubt, pull out.
lol the faces you make. No wonder I haven't hit it big yet. It's all about the faces!
I'd love to see Divinations covered, perhaps even a lesson on the intro because for the life of me I can't get it down.
That's a really fun one to play!!
Ben Eller I'd like to see a full Crack the Skye playlist like this leviathan one, I know that's a tall order though
I'll just be here listening to my tunes
DUDE!!!! THAT'S KILLER!...WAY COOL BRO.
This is great man! Well done
Great video. I can't wait until "Hearts Alive"! That's gonna be so awesome.
Quick question: What tuning is it?
both hearts alive and this song are tuned standard, one step down. so D to D standard tuning
Such an awesome album. Iron Tusk up next! And then maybe another cover of megalodon with the Dimarzio Titan?
As usual, you totally nailed it, and made it look good too! Did you switch shampoos? Your hair looks really shiny. It was hard to take my eyes off of your hands, but sometimes you gotta watch it one more time to see your faces. Keep making these please! Its so fun to watch the fingers on the strings up close.
Sick cover!
Holy crap dude awesome!
Cheers buddy :)
awesome man. if you're not sure which song from Leviathan you're going to do next, my suggestion would be Megalodon
You made that look way to easy!
Awesome! And leviathan means "whale" in Hebrew :)
Love the faces lol
How did you learn this song I've seen tabs but none of them are correct could you help me out please
Haha yeah man there are NO accurate tabs online for Mastoson. I use my ears for everything. Search UA-cam for a guy playing Mastoson stuff on a red SG, he does good slow play through stuff extremely accurately.
eyesnteeeth
Hey Ben, where do you get those backing tracks? Thanks!
It's the only one of these songs I've seen you look strained
This kinda sounds like a group of truckers trying to play between the buried and me. They're just too tired and drunk to play good lol.
Hahaha you say that like its a bad thing!!!
Dat face, gets me everytime :D
dat hair *-* want! :C too bad I cant grow my hair cause that might get me killed lol XD
Hey bud do you have tabs?
Tabs my dude?
can we be friends?
My favorite from Mastodon. Such a heavy and dry riff! Great job playing this awesome song!
awesome cover. The riffs on island as some of my favorite.
flawless
Hope iron tusk is coming soon ... that riff eats babies
Hey what are your eq settings to get that sound? What type of gear are you using?
Great cover bro
I have a simple question
What is the best pedal or multieffect for djent or death metal solos ?
I'm thinking to buy the death metal pedal
Is it a good choice ?
Or i can find something better ?
Hey man, haven't used the death metal pedal personally. I usually don't get to wild over brutal distortion coming from pedals, but your mileage may vary... As for multi FX, I really like the Line 6 stuff, like the M6 or M13 or whatever they're called haha... They sound killer!
Abdulla swagger
You're not going to get a great distortion tone just from using one pedal.
It depends, but my favorite way is to get a nice tight crunch sound out of your amp, then add a hot overdrive. You can also add a compressor to tighten the dynamics. I use this for recording metal/djent.
