  • I realized a lot of people can't figure out the triplet trick on Jambi (it took me some time to figure it out myself) so I did this video to help out. Let me know if there's any questions.
You're hearing a Fender Telecaster with a Kinman pickup through a George El cable into an Elmwood Modena amp.

Am I the only who thinks the rhythms in this song are super Meshuggah. It might just be that those triplets remind me of the herta rhythm in "Bleed". Love both bands.

ah! finally a good jambi's intro. well played :)

I agree with your approach to the triplet. Sounds spot and is easy to place once you learn to roll with it. Your picking hand is the time keeper. Keep the on pace an let your fretting hand do the rest. Thank you for making a video specifically talking about that triplet!

FINALLY!!! I have been trying to get this part for so long and it always sounded wrong down to my soul! Couple that with the fact that you're using a tele and it sounds fantastic which just makes it that much better. Thank you very much for this.

I play it exactly the way you play it and I always thought I was wrong. I just BS'd it cause everyone else on youtube plays it different but my way (also your way) sounds correct.

I have no idea actually. I'm not particularly a big Tool fan. I play this song when I teach at the LA Music Academy as a part of their rock curriculum and I just couldn't figure out how the hell he did it. So once I had it figured out I wanted to pass the secret on haha :)

I know what I did wrong! I pressed the D too hard, so my triplet sounded out of rythm. I just needed to lightly touch it and it worked! Thanks :)

I'm using an Elmwood Stinger for this. Think the eq was around 12 o clock all around or something like that. It's not a particularly high gain amp but it has great attack and definition which is why I like it a lot :) The rest is just a telecaster and my hands.

I really haven't tweaked the eq at all. I'm using an Elmwood Stinger and I think the eq was about 12 o clock all around or something like that. It's not a particularly high gain amp but it has great attack and definition which is why I like it a lot :) The rest is just a telecaster and my hands. A good word of advice is to use less distortion. When you roll that off you get much more attack. What kind of amp are you using?

When i do it, it sounds like shit, how do i stop the big E from ringing out and muddying everything up? I can get the definition in the triplet just fine it's just that I don't know how to shut up the big E
