I like that they are answering how he escaped the sarlac pit and how he has survived so far with the flashbacks, I'm liking it. Maybe cad bane might show up at some point
That multi-armed sand creature had a real Jason and the Argonauts kind of feel, and definitely helped make this episode feel a lot more like a sci-fi serial. Loved it!
It's funny you mention the creature at the end looking like something you would see in Spy Kids. Robert Rodriguez is the director of this episode, and he also directed episode 6 "The Tragedy" in season 2 of the Mandalorian. Robert Rodgriguez also directed all 4 Spy Kids movies and the Adventures of Sharkboy and Lava Girl. Those films were good for a certain audience and had unique special effects for their time. But I have to say I'm pleasantly surprised at his directing style.
I like how Boba is still suffering from the sarlacc. We know he is an amazing fighter but you don't just walk away from that. Great job with character building. I can't wait to see more. Also f Jawas; they're vicious.
thank you for saying that about boba and still being affected by the sarlacc!!! a lot of people just wanted to see bad ass boba!!! im like im sorry dude isn't just going to be bad ass boba after being in the sarlacc for a while and he's injured by it hence the tank. I swear somtimes people have no patience to allow a story to unfold they just want instant gratification with zero story and character building
If I reckon, that four arms creature was one of the playable characters in the game that Chewie and Luke used in that game they played in the Millennium Falcon.
This episode was so very, very Robert Rodriguez. Grandpa Rodriguez is sitting with us around the campfire with his guitar. He's a master of tall tales. He knows all the secret stories, or maybe he just makes them up on the spot, but they're all entertaining. We ask him about Boba Fett. So he starts telling us about Boba Fett. One smart-alec kid asks how he even got out of the Sarlacc Pit anyway. Rodriguez answers confidently that he PUNCHED his way out. It's the dumbest shit you've ever heard, but the way he says it, and the little melody he plays on his guitar, means you buy it fully. Once you buy that, the rest is simple. He's going to do funny voices. He's going to make shadow puppets with his hands. He paid a couple dudes -- paid them in beer, that is -- to show up in cheap papier mache masks at crucial points in his story just to add a bit of colour. That's fucking Rodriguez and I'm here for it.
It's a very similar, yet unique beast of a show. I expected it to just be Mando: But Darker, but it's dealing with Boba's past in an interesting way while fleshing out the criminal underbelly of Tatooine.
Great opening episode!! Love the pieces we're getting to his puzzle. We got one little glimpse of Kamino and there's bound to be more. You nailed it... The fact that Jabba is dead and Boba has been "dead" in the same time is likely why the mayor is not giving a tribute. He likely will have to later on when Boba really takes the lead! Something I've been looking forward to as much as this series is your STAR WARS related sign off..... "May the force be with you, always" is just the way we needed to end this year and start the new!! Thank you so very much!!
liked your review and agree with those points about the fight scene which has quite a lot of people on edge. Would really love to know the director & writers reasoning behind that scene. When I think of them knowing star wars and this character much more than I do, i automatically think they must have a reason so maybe we'll know in time. Lots of good parts, sarlacc, the Tuskens, flashbacks...my only gripe was how little we got in sarlacc time but again we may see more of it as he says 'his dreams are back." I'm very anxious to see how this plays out, how it connects to the other shows and if we'll get to see Bad Batch, Omega...and the overall connection to the other shows
When I saw that woman walking the robot dogs I wondered if those were real because they do exist and look exactly like that. Can't wait to see the making of to find out
Seems like the flashbacks were taking up most of the episode which is great.'' We really need a protocol droid'' ''Yours looks shinier then mine'' , jawa's take it right when they get ambushed. Glad We have gamoreans.
When you said the monster reminds you of something from Spy Kids, you're not wrong. Both are massively influenced by Robert Rodriguez love of classic Ray Harryhausen stop motion creatures. Loved this first episode.
They look more like the guys from the Cob Vanth episode to me... This whole episode gave me godfather/ Sinbad vibes from the stop motion puppet to the miniature sets to I think painting sets in the opening
Love the first shot is of the palace Came out the dirt like I LIVE!!!!!! Boba in the tank having ptsd of past trauma Dragging him through the desert like Joseph in the Bible
Great 1st episode, I was hoping that it would be closer to an hour though. My theory of his escape is that he burned the creature from the inside allowing him to crawl out.
Great Reaction. I just watched it a bit ago. It was badass!. Especially the moment he stands up on Goro's back with the chains. I think the young sand kid was charged with watching Boba and the Rodian probably as a right of passage which was apparent when they returned and he had the head of Goro. We can it Goro for now. Works for me.
loved the first episode...pity they had to steal a scene from Dances with Wolves....Kevin Costner saves the child from a charging buffalo and Bobba saves Kid from some charging ancient Greek god...one thing i really hate that the writers are doing...i first saw this in clone wars, when they introduced witches and voodoo dolls, which put me off the whole series completely...its supposed to be a galaxy far far away not its a galaxy far far away but hey if we cant think of new material then well take earths shit...hated clone wars...but loving Book of Bobba...started off so well...cant wait for next episode...and come on Mandalorian...keep up the good work ,,,you great too watch...ty the mechanical dogs that u see in the town look exactly the same as the ones from war of the worlds...i hope that disney can come up with more unique creatures or bring in a few from the games...
If this was a show just called something like "old guy journeys" I wouldnt have been overly amazed by this episode & probably considered bailing on the series. Its fine. Even somewhat entertaining. But I expected that Mandalorian level entertainment, and it came more with an "okay sci-fi/fantasy" level. If the name wasnt Boba Fett on this series, I think people would drop it after the 1st episode. I liked it, but I didnt love it. Its a show that if it didnt already have back story i was curious about, I probably would have dropped after this episode.
@@greengreeneya2102 I didn't say I thought he would be there for decades, I said I had imagined it for decades. YES! That's what it was making me think of! Well, Also Spy Kids 2! haha

Absolutely felt like Jason & Argonauts. I half expected skeletons to pop out of the sand.
The creature design looks a bit like the sea monster from Clash of the Titans, from the same FX head as Jason and the Argonauts
I think the world collectively yelled out, “What the Hell Is that thing????”
I read someone else thought that the creature might be one of the creatures from the chess game.
Loved the Ray Harryhausen vibes with the creature in the desert!
