A lot of people believe that skit was done on purpose as Ned had mentioned that he had a university friend who is a writer on SNL. Lo and behold, the friend's name is credited as a scriptwriter.

Also the situation with ned was huge online but it didn't get big outside until the snl situation. No one was expecting it to get that big. It's unreasonable to expect a random passing comment about someone he's friends with made on their podcast once would get so much attention. It's literally a 3 sec clip and the podcast wasn't about snl and it was made years ago wasn't it?

Ned's apology came AFTER the Try Guys made their public statement, and he made sure to pick the same font and keep it black & white so it looked like they had been planned together. The remaining guys are salty about it.

They were! They addresses it in the pod and Keith especially. He said that he was unhappy with Ned doing that bc it made it looks like they made a joint statement, which they didn’t and they were not on board with what he said. He was more upset than that but I don’t remember word for word.

I don't get "cheating". If you feel like you no longer in love/both are at the same place/fallen for another person, have a talk, separate or divorce and then proceed with new relationship. This is how mature people deal with it. Ned turned out to be irresponsible and hurt lots of people. I'm very sorry for Ariel and their children.
Sometimes people don't even cheat because they want someone else, but because they're unhappy with some part of their life/relationship and satisfying your emotional/sexual needs with a "no strings attached" side deal can be easier for some than assessing their own feelings and communicating their needs to their partner. Truly sad and pathetic to make a loved one bear the brunt of one's own issues like that. Ariel is a queen and I hope she's doing okay now that the media has thankfully left her alone.
@@bonni2920p. My ex cheated, multiple times by the time I found out. Now I had already told him I thought he was experiencing depression. He had been made redundant and lost his car as a result, it was a rough point and he changed, slept most of the day and gamed all night, stopped showering etc.
He came at me with I wasn't having sex with him enough. Okay if that's what he thought. I did have my own issues and a teething 8mth old and post natal depression myself, but was seeking help and trying my best myself. He refused to even consider the idea that anyone but me needed any kind of help BUT he wanted me to stop as he believed the anxiety meds made my libido drop. Not his lack of hygiene and inconsistent behaviour around the household. He also became abusive due to his depression.
Years later he's admitted that he was depressed and really just feeling absolutely shit about the work and car. That I was 100% right and also justified in my own disinterest in sex, that later on reflection me screaming at him in one fight: if you showered for me like you did for prostitutes I'd fuck you... Was completely justified and should have been at that point a wake up, not taken as an insult and another way to say I'm unreasonable, because who wants to have sex with someone who's not showered or brushed their teeth in 4 days.
If he had sought help, if he had just even gone to a dr or something to appease me, he agrees he might have done better. Might not have hit me. Might have kept his shit together and not essentially ruined his life by fucking up so badly and having his family also force consequences, not just the law and our relationship end. He's had issues trying to have relationships because everyone knows how bad he got/it ends up coming out and the fact he physically abused me has ended a lot of relationships and also lifelong friendships.

From what I've heard, it's rarely about wanting someone else. It's usually about control in some form. Control over their partner if they're mad at them, control over themselves if they feel helpless, control over emotions if something big happened, control over finances if they feel like they're not getting enough... It usually comes back to grasping for something to feel like they have control over anything. I can't say what Ned was thinking during this, I just have what I've heard.
All of this broke the day I found out I was going to lose my job. Ngl, it helped to be like “alright I have to find a new job. But at least THAT’S not happening to me. “

Ok but the newspaper articles victimizing Ned when he literally CHEATED ON HIS WIFE are insane to me. Like they said that keith zack and eugene were the bad guys when they literally did nothing wrong. How the hell did they get away with publishing those articles?
Ned is from a very wealthy, well-connected family and he went to Yale so he has access to this Ivy League professional network as well, he and his parents have a lot of powerful friends in media and journalism
He cheated on his wife with his *employee*, which is not just immoral but illegal. The guys did the legally and morally correct thing by getting rid of Ned.

I also find it hard to believe that none of the other guys knew. Especially when the internet spit out so many pics of the two of them and the people that worked with Ned saying they aren't surprised with how he was behind the camera. The company wasn't that huge and disconnected nas even with bigger companies word gets around.

I will just say one correction which is that Ned's apology was released AFTER the Try Guys released their statement that he was no longer with them.

exactly right and this is important because ned copied the style of the try guys post which made it look like they had co-ordinated it when in fact they didn't
They were released at about the same time, within an hour of each other. The guys had sent Ned a copy of what they were going to release before they released it, so he wouldn’t be blindsided. That’s when he copied it, not after they posted it.

Yes, the others knew. At least a month before news broke. But the way Ned wrote his statement made it seem like they had known for way longer than that.
He could’ve saved things a little bit more if he’d written his note. It’s not like the words meant any different. But the same format was a psychological game on a lot of people. They’re automatically gonna peep the similarity and start thinking deeper. But no, instead of even trying to be sincere, Ned copped out multiple times.

I just want to point out that Ned's comment about what happened came out after the company's. On the first podcast episode after the scandal broke, Keith and Zach even mentioned that Ned used the same/a similar font as their post, and implied that he did it intentionally.
It definitely felt like he was trying to give the impression like they put them out jointly or something like that. Not sure if the try guys felt that it came off that way, but that is the vibe Ned using those same font gives you. I wonder if that’s why he went with the basic white background as well?

I was completely surprised they decided to go that way. Totally dismissive and actually factually wrong. Then Becky (Keith's wife) posted "Isn't one of Ned's friends a writer at SNL?" and it turned out that friend wrote the script. Made Ned look even worse.

@@sammysoppy3361 parasocial relationships exist in all and any forms though. people have favorite movies, singers, dancers, shows, games, musicals, books, etc. and they have favorite characters, actors/actresses, and etc. finding out that one of those people did something horrible and feeling sad or down or betrayed is a normal feeling. that’s why we feel sad when our favorite actor/etc dies or gets sick or something. those relationships are a part of life. yes they can be toxic as can any other relationship. but people are allowed to have feelings and thoughts. that’s a part of the human experience. growing attachment to a famous person happens and we all have one, whether we want to admit it or not. we are all fans of someone.

man. I grew up watching the try guys. I loved them so much that's why seeing it first on twitter when Ned cheated was a huge blow on me to the point that I didn't believe it at first. Coz cmon, Ned the "i love my wife" guy seriously cheated?? No way. But then it really did happen and it blew up so much on social media. Despite all, i still love the remaining 3 and my support will always be towards them.

‼️I always thought it was weird that he made such a big deal about being married he wasn't the only one of the TryGuys who was married. I thought all of the guys were married, but Ned was the only one who turned it into a personality. And that always kind of rubbed me the wrong way. I am married. My husband and I are best friends we really do love each other we've been together for like 10 years and even though I deeply love my husband I have a life outside of my husband and my husband has a life and interests outside of me. So it always felt like Ned was overcompensating. That could just be me looking back with hindsight. At the time I thought it was because he just didn't have anything else. Some people don't have any interests or hobbies. So i thought he had just latched on to being married as his personality because he felt like he didn't have anything else that made him stand out from the other guys. And maybe that is true. Maybe that's why he made such a big deal about being married and loving his wife and family when he obviously didn't actually love his wife and family that much.
Watching them through high school really helped me feel comfortable in my own skin and I just can’t stop loving them 🤷♀️ Ned really was my fave cuz of his love and how much I wanted someone like that 😅 but like the whole driving instructor being curious about a car crash….he could’ve seen if Ariel was down to swing or something and then divorce before pursuing whatever her name was, I’m sorry I’m too lazy to look for her name 😭

As a kid who grew up with a cheating father that dragged on for many years, news about seemingly wife loving husbands cheating on their spouse breaks my heart. It’s a traumatic experience for the kid and wife, luckily his kids are still young, hopefully they won’t remember much of the ordeal. But as a 8 year old kid, going through that with my parents broke my world. My family fell apart and there was nothing I could do. And no matter what people say about “i’ll always love you even if we divorce”, yeah, but my family is no longer the same anymore, it’s different, and I never got to see my dad much anymore because he has his own family with the women he cheated on my mom with. He’s a responsible dad and was very financially supportive, but it’s not the same. You just can’t really fit in to his family when the women he married was the person who brought so much pain to your family.
Heck, I loved Ned _because_ I came from that kind of home environment myself, it was nice to see that loving husbands and parents do exist, but then THAT happened

Agreed. My dad always seemed so head over heels, borderline obsessed even, with my mother. They did everything together it seemed when I was young. I felt somewhat lucky as a kid that my parents loved each other so much. I found out about his infidelity as a young adult and it forever shattered my image of my family and father.
Had a friend who's dad cheated on his wife and when she found out he beat her to death in front of his mistress and tried to make his son, AKA my friend, take the blame. Apparently he said his wife "had it coming" for gaining 40 pounds due to his abuse making her addicted to junk food.
He was killed in jail.

The guy didn't just cheat, he had a whole extramarital relationship for like a year with a woman who worked for him.
And that woman was engaged to another man at the time I think I remember reading. How sad that so many people got hurt.
what got me that you missed was that ned wasn't just "the wife guy who had an affair", but that he was A) a founder of the company, B) head of HR, and C) the one who wrote all the employee paychecks, who had an affair with a subordinate. it's clear that she was just as much a willing partner in this crime, but even if she hadn't been, and he'd hit on her, where was she to go? he's HR. he is the only one who oversees her payment. and there's no one more powerful than the company founder/s. granted, we know the other 3 would have stepped in to protect her, but if he'd been careful and made sure she never had proof, would they have believed her? no one knew until they got sloppy and stopped trying to hide it. the proof came from outside the company, from people who saw them out, and even then it only mattered bc it was a kiss, a violation she couldn't have done even with the sole intent of exposing him, without hurting Ariel. even if she'd been forced and coerced, all she could have done was leave the company and we have no idea what he'd have done to retaliate, and even if he didn't, he'd have just tried again with whoever took her place. that, to me, is what made this so wild. every single possible way to look at it is absolutely fucked, and it all happened on the public stage. absolutely wild.
Even if it was non-consensual whether it be him coercing her or her coercing him the only person who would have a say in the matter is Ned because of his status. Also I have a feeling that it’s not just Ned who works HR, it’s definitely the 4 of them working together considering they own the company and putting just one thing onto one person would be not only too stressful but doing things like this would make it foolproof and he could easily continue abusing his power. As far as I know Keith knew that Ned used to be the frat-boy type so that history isn’t new to the guys. If they knew this they definitely would protect anyone who were to come forward with any information that would go against him. Its also not fair to blame him solely if it was consensual like he says it was because it takes 2 to make that decision, I’m not saying this is a possibility but considering he handled the finances and if she knew that she could’ve done it for a higher paycheck if she was that desperate but again it would take both of them to make that decision. Like you said regardless how you look at it it’s a really fucked up situation I’m just upset that YB and the other guys got caught in the crossfire and were left to deal with the mess and I feel really bad for Ariel and the kids who will probably grow up without a father figure in the household. For someone who talked about his wife so much and loving her so much he clearly didn’t do such a good job of it.
You cant assume a man will coerce someone into having a relationship with them just because you dont like the guy. Also in the world these guys live in theres no way the employee wouldnt have been believed if she said there was coercion

@@mrkillman555 the entirety of my comment is that every possible scenario is fucked, no matter what direction you look at it. I didn't "assume he coerced her because I dislike him", coercion is just one of the many fucked up possibilities. it's also very clear from her own actions as well as those of her ex fiancé that it explicitly wasn't coercion, that she was just as much a willing participant and I said as much originally. I don't believe he coerced her, even if his position gives an inherent power imbalance. but *both* roads lead to terrible ends.
as well, no, she could not have known they'd have her back if she had been coerced and needed help. the fact that this even happened and surprised people showed we didn't *really* know any of them like many thought they did, we only knew what they wanted us to see. if one is willing to do something like this, who's to say his closest friends aren't ALSO like that? or that they'd side with a woman they've known only a few years over a man they've been best friends with since their school days? men are known to close ranks and support even men they've never met before, having a close bond with one only makes it more likely that they'd take his side.
as shocked as everyone was by ned's actions, everyone was just as shocked by the rest of them actually ousting their friend and standing by Ariel, because of just how unusual that is in ANY workplace. it's fantastic that they did, even more so because they now lead by example and can be pointed to as the golden standard for workplace sexual misconduct, but hindsight is 20/20. no one truly knows how a man will react until it's too late. the "bad" ones look exactly like the "good" ones, and when you're risking your safety, it's not a guess you can make lightly. every woman knows relying on "the men will have my back" is like expecting a prince in shining armor to take us away from all our problems. it's just not a reasonable bet to make.
hence: every single path she reasonably had is fucked.
It probably wouldn't have been as huge as it was if it had been any other dude. But his ENTIRE persona he portrayed to the world was being a good husband and father. He didn't really have many other... redeeming? qualities to his internet persona that could've maybe softened the blow to his image, because you can expect (to some degree) that any other person could end up in such a situation, but not the dude whose entire shtick was being a good husband. It was crazy. He obliterated his entire image just like that.

Ned was the wife guy because he didn’t have any other interesting traits. His ‘love’ for his wife and family was his only relatable and likable character trait. I always thought it was weird and made it kind of obvious that Ned wasn’t enough on his own to hold viewers interest. He’s selfish point blank, didn’t care about his family didn’t care about the other guys or the staff. Not sad he’s no longer apart of try guys.
What funny, is that he does have traits he could of easily brought in. He’s knowledgable. And could of easily play into his science background as part of his story. Play the “smart guy”…. From what I've observed around me,the more the person expresses to OTHERS their love for their partners and kids, the higher are chances of them cheating and even being sexual predator 🤡

Yeah, I’ve noticed that too. I had this one college prof who was constantly gushing about his wife and kids and was also a self-described angry feminist. He later got fired for demanding sex from female students or else he’d fail them (all of the students were adults, but the majority of them were there on scholarships, so failing a class would seriously jeopardize their chances of graduating); the doting feminist husband persona was entirely an act to cover up both his cheating and his predatory behavior.

I think the most shocking part of this scandal is that the other guys held him accountable and fired him. Very rarely do men get held accountable for these actions, especially by other men and even more so by the men in their own circle. Huge respect for the other 3 guys.

A lot of people focus on the cheating thing and forget the fact that not only did he cheat on his wife (who was their close friend), but they where also incredibly hurt that their friend would open the company they built out of nothing at a huge personal risk to a lawsuit that could crumble everything they built. All just for a fling with an employee.
Like putting aside his deplorable behaviour to his wife and kids this was worse than if he met with an unrelated stranger at a bar.
There are so many content creators with hundreds of thousands of subscribers and views but arent very good at making something meaning full or really interesting but over time I know your channel will get the credit it deserves its just a matter of time
I remember beginning the SNL skit like “oh it’s not so bad, it’s poking fun at how this internet drama blew up and maybe overshadows more important news…” and then it quickly became clear they just wanted to shit on some UA-camrs. Fun.
I think what you said about the Try Guys' videos being "wholesome safe spaces" is so important, because they managed to show that sometimes maintaining that is difficult, and requires removing people who go against those wishes.
I feel so bad for Ariel, she deserves so much better than a liar.

i started watching the try guys right as they became their own company but slowly stopped over time; the scandal pulled me right back in, both to see what the hell was going on and what they would do moving forward. this was such a good watch, the editing and the scriptwriting were absolutely stellar!
I think the try guys actually released their statement first, on the podcast they were a little mad that Ned used the same font and made it look similar to theirs, like they planed it together
I do feel like the snl skit was planned to make the other try guys look bad. Mainly because we know Ned is friends with 2 snl people. Ned might not have been involved but I feel like that writer friend did it on purpose
100% but i do believe Ned was at least tangentially involved. Very embarrassing for all the SNLactors involved
I also think one thing that made it so huge it's that right about the same time on the same algorithms you would see try guys content, you also would see tiktoks and videos about how men who call themselves as "Nice guys" could also be horrible people who are only nice because they are expecting things in return. Ned built his entire career as a "Nice guy", nothing more than the "perfect husband", and when it all came down it completely destroy his entire credibility and persona that he has put in the internet since day 1.
I think the proximity to the John Mulaney divorce and Adam Levine cheating scandal amplified it as well because it became something beyond Ned as an individual: people were critiquing the image of the “wife guy” as a whole and the algorithm was pushing that content in return
I think Ned also retraumatized a lot of people who've dealt with infidelity. You trust your partner with your life until you discover that they broke your trust in the most fundamental way in a way that you might never be able to trust anyone ever again. Ned was held up by fans as the ideal husband and him cheating just re traumatized people and i think that's part of why this blew up

Thats why everyone was so shocked when ned was fired from the company. From locker room talk to sexual harassment, men are not held accountable to their actions by other men, let alone women. According to statistics, 10 out of 100 rpists get reported, but only 1 out of them get jail time. Snl did their vid in poor taste. It was disrespectful, disgusting, and pathetic. For something so controversial it was so badly done too. They should have tried harder with the amount of copium they were on as they loved normalizing adultery and sexual harassment.

THIS is how you deal with a situation like this and I’d like to thank dear Keith, Zach and Eugene and many other Try Guys workers for handling it so well. I was initially devastated about the news, having been with the boys since day one. Never thought the unthinkable would happen.
It's insane that no one is addressing the parasocial relationships people have built with these guys. Like it's okay to be shocked and just saddened but people were reacting like they were personally violated by this scandal lol..

Another potential factor to the… tasteless SNL skit may be that multiple big wigs at SNL have been caught up with sexual harassment. If they sided with the other try guys, it would mean acknowledging their own behavior. Which would means quitting/being fired.

i don’t understand the concept of cheating. i’ve fallen out of love before, even when it felt like it was going to last forever, and i’ve fallen for other people while still in love with my partner. but when that happens you just,, talk to your partner about it. sometimes you separate, sometimes you “open up” the relationship if that something you’re both comfortable with (or you can start there, ive been gone into relationships that started with multiple people) and sometimes you just stay with your partner and move past the other person. but no matter what you NEVER go behind your partners back. how could you do that to someone you love? because, at least in my experience, even when you fall out of romantics love you still care about that person. i don’t understand it. it’s mind boggling to me. infinitely more hurtful to lie and hide it then be straight up with your partner. idk, just my thoughts.

This question his literally been in the back of my mind from the start. Never watched them apart from the occasional video catching my interest on my feed, but certainly as a longtime user and lover of UA-cam I've known them as Titans with many admiring supporters.
The official statement trended so rapidly that in spite having not watched them even once for a few years, it was front and center on my feed and somehow caught my interest.
I had zero context and only became more confused as this whole thing swelled into a global mainstream media fiasco.
Thanks for finally clearing this up. The thesis was absolutely perfect and you presented the information concisely for someone who stated at square zero. I barely knew who Try Guys are, now I actually understand a lot of the angles at play here, particularly what the fans experienced.

everyone leaves out that he didn’t just cheat, he did it with an *employee*. him cheating was immoral but not illegal or cause for his removal, it was that he took advantage of a power dynamic between him and his employee, and it’s great that the rest of the guys took the right actions.

I don’t care much about any level of celebrity, and have never gotten truly upset or saddened by anything like this that’s happened to celebrities. But I had a genuine reaction of shock when I heard he cheated. And it IS because his marriage was his brand. I love(d) the try guys but he was probably my least favorite, but I did find his love for his wife endearing. But just seeing a member of a group of guys I found to be generally “safe” completely betray values he’d been displaying for years was troubling. It hit a nerve.
I couldn't imagine cheating on my girlfriend. We've known each other for 3 years and been together for 1
