This video brought back memories… I lived in Tokyo from August 2018-January 2021! I remember when I was trying to find an apartment, I went with a Japanese friend to a real estate company, and the agent called about 50 landlords on my behalf… which I was denied to all but two places. It was soooo discouraging, but everything worked out in the end.
This video is so insightful even as someone who is not planning to move over, it is actually quite eye opening to see how it’s really like & I hope Gaijin Pot sponsors you for the lovely review you did for them!
I'm moving to Tokyo next month and the UA-cam gods blessed me with this perfect video on my explore page!! ARGH!! The way you express your words, explain everything in so much DETAIL & don't gate keep anything!!! This video was so so helpful.. thank you so much! I've binge watched a few of your other videos & I would really love to see a video on all the jobs you had during your time in Tokyo! Sounds like you've had such an interesting fun time over there, sending love xx from Australia :)
I’m planning to go to Japan and work there, your video was such a good timing! I’m now fully informed about all of the processes! Thank you so much! Have a nice day!
I'll be moving to Japan next year since my husband is relocating there for a job. As a (future) trailing spouse, your content gave me a sense of direction in an otherwise uncharted waters for me. Thank you
This is really helpful btw because all I’ve mainly heard is people using visas to get jobs, but I haven’t actually heard too much about folks actually searching normally sortve like how we would in the states. So it’s nice to know there are websites out there that have that sortve thing in Japan too. Those apartment websites remind me of different realtor and apartment websites in the states too
Learning japanese at home is something I highly recommend. I've been learning the language via a process called immersion - AKA, just watching stuff in japanese without english subtitles (and preferably using japanese ones) and just looking stuff up as you go along. It's overwhelming at first but you can get real good in just a few years. I've been learning for 4 hours a day (and i skipped about 2 months worth of days because of holidays, events, real life stuff) for about a year and a half and I'm not quite fluent - but conversational and can make myself understood. Give me another year and i'll probably be way better but at my current level i can read full length novels no problem as long as I can look up words here and there. Highly recommend it
Im learning japanese at home, thanks! But if you watch stuff in japanese without subtitles how could u know the meaning? 😅 Or do you assume whats happening?
@Looking4Starss That's the fun part - You don't. You have to tolerate ambiguity and accept that you will not understand a large part of what you're watching. I however, used something called Language Reactor which is an add-on for netflix ans youtube that lets you use two subtitles at ones. By hiding the English ones until I hover over them with my mouse I can give the Japanese sentence a fair shot. If I don't understand I can check with the english subtitles and compare - This phrase means this and that? Okay, on to the next sentence - Pros of this method Let's you keep up with the plot and has you tolerating less ambiguity, letting you learn while still having the story safety net of english subtitles to check if you already tried to understand the japanese one - Con: Limited to whats on netflix. A lot of good shows but a lot of garbage too. You'll outgrow the need for this software in about 6-8 months tho if you keep a similar pace (4 hours of active watching per day)
I discovered your channel just a few days ago and I'm binge watching all of the videos! This one is especially super helpful because I'm planning to go to Japan in September, but I still don't know if I want to go there to study or to work😂
I would love to move to Japan! Have watched NHK for 2 years. Japanese have a great culture, family, friends & food. Have to figure out how to survive, what kind of work/service I can do (helping Elders maybe) & where to live in Japan. Starting my journey to learn to speak Japanese. Would love to move in 1 year but that might be a unreasonable goal. Japan is so beautiful. Many years ago I took a Japanese conversational language class. I loved it! Spent some time chanting Japanese Buddhism at the SGI facility long ago. I trained with Master Kimura in Karate in NJ decades ago. If you have any tips or help I would appreciate it. Thank you.
Thank you for thisvideo! I live in Japan right now, but through the navy. I get out in a year and a half but want to move out here afterwards. This was very helpful!
ive been on gajin pot and tried plenty of properties but seems like a lot of them don't want foreigners to stay in alot of those places , and refer you to the sire sumyca ;( moving there in april cant wait, but apartment hunting is a pain in the booty
I don't know if it is coincidence or the creepy UA-cam algorithm, but I was literally just looking for monthly mansions from my hotel room in Japan. Living out of business hotels has become exhausting....and expensive. I notice when googling monthly apartment rentals that simply searching in Japanese queries a completely different set of search results that are far more affordable, whereas "luxury apartments" for foreigners cost 2-5x more.
Searching for rentals looks rather convenient. I'm also in Southern California and online searching locally has never worked out for me. Only overpriced places ("luxury apartments") typically come up in results or places that never answer or call you back. Then there's the scam that goes around where someone will rent you a place (or so you think) and take your deposit, except they don't even own the place. Sometimes several people/families show up to move in on the same date only to find the house is actually occupied by the people who truly own it. I've always had to just walk endlessly to spot a for rent sign. Why can't we also have everything online.
Oh my gosh that is awful😰 I’ve luckily never dealt with that kind of issue in Tokyo! And I’ve never tried renting in Southern California but that sounds like a nightmare
thanks leilani!!!✨ as a fellow japanese american hafu, you’ve been so helpful to me over the past 2 years and i really look up to u!!! i’m planning on moving to japan for a few years right after i graduate college in a couple more years~ 🌸
Hello I wanted to move to japan for one year and wanted to work as a teacher or a factory worker but my question was how do I get paid do I need a Japanese bank account or do day pay in cash or can I still use my bank account from my country
in the finding work section u said that the company usually doesn't hire u if u don't live in japan, but if we take me as an example (i'm italian and i'm currently living in Italy) if i want to move to japan i need a visa and to get a visa that can permit me to do a full-time job i need a sponsor from a company. So how can i get a sponsor for the visa if the company doesn't want someone that he isn't currently in japan but he's planning to? maybe if i specify this thing that i need the sponsor they'll consider me more?
But if companies wants you to already live in Japan, how are you supposed to have a visa ? i don't get how people manage to go work in japan as it sounds like an infinite loop, no job > no visa > no roof > no job > ....
thank you for thhe infos! i am just wondering, if the total monthly cost of an appartment is the real final price you pay per month, or are there additional costs for electricity involved?
Hey I wanted to move to Osaka Japan but I don't have any experience to live and work in Osaka Japan what can you recommend and how can I apply for a job in Osaka as a newcomer..I need help
Hey I was wondering if you can tell me how can I reach out for the employer in Tokyo Japan,so he can get a certificate of eligibility. Because in Canada rules are different from USA, help me somebody please 🙏
im planning on moving to tokyo but my mother just told me that foreigners have to wait 7 years before they can get a job!? is that true???? also love this video its very helpful and you explain everything very well
thanks for your video! Would love to know the process it took for you to get your japanese passport! I'm also half and in my mid 20's would I still be able to apply for a japanese passport? were you teaching in japan? would love to know more about your work experience in japan!
To be honest my mom helped me with most of the process when I was 20!😭 And yes I did social media marketing and teaching! I haven’t talked about my work experience on this channel yet but I’m planning on making an entire video about it soon!!:)
Thank you for taking your time and making this video. I really love to work in Japan but the only thing I've heard from youtubers who have worked in Japan so far is that working in Japan is so hard and frustanaiting, so this kind of videos really chear me up. (Sorry for my bad English.)

Will you go to Heaven when you die ? Have you ever Lied, stolen, used Gods name in vain (such as OMG), Had sex outside of Marriage ? Truth is...We have all sinned and broke Gods laws. And sin is what sends us to Hell. But even though we broke Gods laws, God being rich in mercy sent his son Jesus born of a virgin. He lived a sinless perfect life something we could not do. He willingly went to the cross and took the punishment we deserve by dying on the cross for our sins. Then 3 days later rose from the dead and was seen by hundreds of eye witnesses and then ascended into Heaven where he sits at the right hand of God. So please today repent and put your Faith and trust in Jesus before its too late.
