I have a 2007 Jeep Wrangler JK and I've replaced the Tie rod bar and Tie rod ends, The Drag link, The Track Bar and The Steering Damper and at 40mph or braking soft or hard my jeep goes into a death wobble what else could it be?
Was someone under your jeep making the steering wheel wobble like that while you were at a complete standstill during your wobble demonstration ? Roughly the 3:00min marker
Over the 8 years I've had my jeep I've paid to have this fixed 3 times. I found this video since the problem has come back yet again, and right after I watched this I ran to my garage. Sure enough the T-bar was very loose. My wallet and I can't thank you enough.
OMG I wish I had seen this video before and probably saved a lot of money. Being a girl inexperienced with Jeeps, I had this happened to me twice within this month After I regained composure I went to do the logical to me, wheel balancing and alignment and surprise surprise, all that was loose under my Jeep. Was very costly but will tell you, I am brave most of the time but this really did a number on me, driven the Jeep 4 miles since repaired and believe me I am taking my time regaining my confidence back before I take a Ride on my toy faster than 40mph. 😁 I drive an 18 wheeler nationwide for the past 41 years, solo since '96, nothing has scared me more than my Jeep's death wobble, just two miles away from home Thanks for posting this video I did wonder how it looked to others looking as I kept hearing those tires screeching until I came to a full stop, I was shaking myself so much than couldn't press the clutch to continue driving.... very scary.. WOW
Update... So I am still working on this, no more wobble thank goodness but kept having a swaying feeling as I drove after repairing the wobble issue. Was recommended another shop which told me my rear right breaks were slightly stuck, they showed me, wheel wouldn't spin freely, so fixed that and needs shocks too. I felt better but not confident to drive long distance so I dared and drove 220 miles to Key Largo and it was not easy, very tiresome. So, as soon as I return, shocks are being replaced... I have to do this little by little because is costly to me, I am the one who pays ofcourse. Hopefully, this will help now. Oh eventually I will replace the other rotters which will go bad I am sure.. I love this Jeep, I trade it with my son, he didn't abuse it from brand new but I guess he didn't do much on taking care of these important parts because he only drove it 15, 20 miles a day and a couple of long trips when new. He told me it needed fixing but I still wanted it. I hoping to bring her back to her matured younger self. She is sharp looking, great shape 2008, 72k miles Wish me luck!!!
@@Connie1Fan Sentimental value carries a lot of weight, but stay safe. I had a 1970 Pontiac Tempest that I hated to give up, got me through my life since I was 18, and took me to college many states away and back, but when it turned 19 and rust had taken over too much by 1989, I had to say good-bye! (Sat in our driveway for it's final years and I had bought a new Mustang (mistake-worst Winter car I've ever owned) for daily drive. I have a Subaru Forester Wilderness now, ordered it in the same color green as my well loved Tempest.
Yes, I know the feeling. I gave my first car 1966 Cyclon, Comet to my brother, it was orange, black hood with a bubble on it for carburetor, with stick shift, white bucket seats. I had gotten 1974 Ford F-150 4×4 My brother didn't use it much, sat at my dad's bodyshop, it wasn't crashed, rutted away got trashed in the early 2000s.. my uncle thought me to drive a stick shift on that car, it was his and he gave it to me Take care 👋
Just got my 2018 JK Sahara 3 weeks ago. Looking into upgrades etc. This channel has been great for information and no question I will be buying your products because of the well made information in every video.
E Baluyot ‘Nope’...I think that is the problem when you buy the very first generation since my Jeep is 2018 JL started wobbling after only 3 months...the good news dealer found the recall & fixed it for me...so far 18 months later...My Jeep ride like Champ!
@@Inimbrium this is a problem with all vehicles that have solid front axles, its literally just something that happens with solid front axles...... that includes European vehicles.
I had that problem three times within a week and was very scared. So I checked all screws and brackets of the front axle and steering and found nothing loose or worn. So I changed the steering damper to a stronger (sport) one and what a suprise since that time I had no wobble anymore.
Dealer has changed my steering damper twice but it’s a mopar part and is all that is covered by the warranty. They suggested a heavy duty damper. That’s my next step since it’s a newer jeep and everything else has been checked.
LFTD JKU because replacing it completely fixed my death wobble. I had replaced everything else (tie rod, track bar, stabilizers etc.) and still had it. Then one day for giggles I lifted the tire and placed a metal bar under it then noticed there was play indicating a bad ball joint. Which I confirmed when I removed the ball joint. Has driven like a dream ever since.
Sounds like it may just be time to refresh your suspension then! I would look at replacing your tie rod end links, ball joints, track bar bushings and control arm bushings. Depending on how many miles your Wrangler has on it, it may be time! -Zach
My 2018 JLUR is stock (so far). At around 8k miles, I had the death wobble happen when I drove over a bridge/ road seam. I took it to the dealer. I was first told they had never heard of such a thing. Finally they said it did have an open recall and installed a heavy duty steering stabilizer. It hasn't happened since but after watching several videos online, I'm doubtful. Thanks for the great video and advice!
Just fixed my 2013 JKU's death wobble. Previous owner had upgraded the suspension parts when he had it lifted, and those all seemed nice and tight. Turned out to be my ball joints, which you can diagnose by jacking a tire off the ground, then using a pry bar under the tire. When I lifted, the steering knuckle went up about 1.5-2 mm without the C moving. That was enough to give me a nasty death wobble from about 40-50mph when conditions were right.
Ryan u are the man!! This has been going on with my JK for a couple weeks now and I was freaking out. Now I know what needs to be fixed. Love the channel.
I had the death wobble in my 2014 wrangler. I bought a skyjacker twin steering stabilizer from extreme terrain. I t took about thirty minutes to install( I’m no mechanic) problem fixed. No issues. Thank you for your great service.
Thank you very much for this very educational video!!! We tightened the track bar bolts and death wobble went away! Thanks again! Saved us on our 3 hrs roadtrip !!
Hoping this issue will be fixed on my JL. Took it in a few weeks ago for an oil change. Found out there was a recall on the power steering. About a week after the jeep started to shake. Took it in and was told I needed a rear tire alignment. A few days later on the freeway it started again. Now I have to bring it back. I've had my JL for less than a year and never had any issues. I hope it's an easy fix.
Nice video, demystifying that awful death wooble!!! I had it on my old Cherokee xj after a 2 inch lift. The track bar end was a little worn out. A New track bar made the magic
These tips will definitely help out! Biggest things are checking for worn parts in your suspension and making sure your alignment is in-spec. If your Jeep is lifted, look into adjustable track bars and front lower control arms. Best of luck! -Zach
I had a bad death wobble happening. After taking to my regular garage who couldn't diagnose it I took it to Jeep garage who said it was due to worn ball joints - I was very sceptical about this as I had replaced them just 14 months earlier! A symptom rather than the cause; balls joints replaced again to no effect - in fact, had death wobble again on ride back from garage! Tightened up all bolts as suggested and found truning off ESC helped, marginally. Replacing the steering stabiliser was the real fix for the issue. Have taken it on serious off-road drives since then and also towing an 8m boat with no experience of the wobble again since replacing the steering stabiliser. Hope this works for you too!
Maybe someone with more mechanical experience can correct me, but steering stabilizers don't really fix the issue, they mask the symptoms by absorbing the wobble. I've replaced my stabilizer and it did seem to stop, for a while, but then after some time I could slowly start to feel it coming back until it's become full-blown death wobble again. Hope your experience doesn't end up like mine.
Remi Ramos they didn’t mention ball joints because they have no clue what death wobble is and how it works. Out of 98% of the death wobble issues only 2% were because of loose steering components. Majority of death wobble happens due to defective / broken / faulty ball joints.
ahhhh I survived the jeep death wobble twice its so so scary! first time i thought the jeep was gonna fall apart and flip! and sad thing i notice the stering wheel has started to wobbles a little oh no here it comes again!😑
I just experienced this with my 2007 Jeep. It has done it twice to me in 3 weeks. It felt like I was holding on to a jack hammer. My son drove it and of course it would not do it for him. He drove it again after the 2nd time it did it and thankfully it did it to him.
Thanks for the video. I’m working on a wobble on a 2011 JK. It’s the front left wheel only. I’ve replaced the wheel, had the tires balanced twice, new hub, axle, wheel joint, and track bar. Going to re-check the ball joints, tie rod ends, and drag link. Not sure why I’m only getting the wobble from the left side and not both sides.
Hey, I just wanted to drop a comment thanking the creator and the commentors. I'm not new to the Jeep brands, but I am fairly new to the TJ setups. I'm 50, owned 2 CJs, a couple of XJs, a WJ, and even a YJ somewhere along the way for a short time. I have had the same CJ7 since 93. No o e else has ever worked on it but me, for good or ill, lol. Same for the other Jeeps in my life, except the TJ that is currently being looked after by me. It belonged to my mother. She passed unexpectedly about 5 years ago now. My father has given the TJ over to me to care for until my daughter, nearly 13, and the only grandchild is old enough to have it, per my mom's wishes. I had heard of the death wobbles over the years, but not experiencing them myself until this very morning, didn't realize just how hair raising an issue it would be. It's an '02, 135,000 miles on the odometer. Has the factory whells that allow the fitment of the 30x9.50 tires. Bone stock, with the exception of the new top that's set to arrive today/ tomorrow. I'll double-check all the things mentioned here and likely look at replacing suspension components considering age as well. Just have to decide to lift or not to lift, I guess. Thanks again, everyone!
Purchased a 97 Jeep TJ as a fixer up project with a known death wobble issue. Upper and lower ball joints were frozen with rust & no grease, steering stabilizer was worn out and just a Christmas ornament, and all the steering linkage was shot. I replaced everything with new. But to my horror I still had Death Wobble. I followed your suggestions...and sure enough it was the new track bar install. In my case had to add a few thick washers to the passenger side connection then tighten the snot out of the bolt....Death Wobble gone. By the way, your death wobble looks tame to the one I had, LOL, thanks for the video.
Super helpful video that was done very well. Appreciate your efforts to help me understand the issue, explain the fix, and not hard sell but offer up some good replacement suggestions. I will recommend and use you guys for being class acts!
Nice vid. Still working on my ‘99 TJ wobble and the problem seems to mostly be worn tie rod ends. I actually only had a wobble until I replaced a loose wheel bearing and then got full-on death wobble. The fix appears to be a combination of things based on bushings that come with parts and how easy they are to swap out. It’s going to be a process and I’m glad to hear that the stabilizer should be changed last. Thanks!
We're happy it helped! Steering wobble is definitely interesting to try and fix, and you're absolutely correct that it's often a combination of parts being replaced that ends up fixing things. -Zach
Track bar was the problem with my 2010 Wrangler Sport. Replaced it with a MOOG part and now no problem. It was dangerous before replacing and had to almost or completely stop in traffic .
I'm sure! It's always a great idea to keep an eye on your front end components on older Wranglers like that, specifically your track bar, ball joints and tie rod ends. -Zach
Jerry Frances, I thought they had this problem with older models, but apparently it happens with newer models. I had to get rid of my beautiful jeep ( rare rescue green color) before it could potentially kill me. It happened on a winding narrow road 8000 feet elevation. It’s a Miracle I am alive
Experienced first death wobble back in about 1990 in my '73 CJ5 at about 35mph, totally scared the poodoo out of me. Second time was in a Dodge spirit. Just as severe as the jeep, but this time is was my tie rod end that broke. Not a fun experience for anyone, especially for inexperienced jeepers. Great video btw!
If differential not align or centered it will cause death wobble which usually changes on jeeps when u lifts it, it changes the load on the track bar , if the track bar load is not correct the wobble will always be there
Just bought a used 09 wrangler and it has done it after every bump and son had it bad coming down exit ramp. I’ll check tightness in morning. Awesome video
HEY SORRY 2 BOTHER YA, DID YOU FIND OUT WHAT IT WAS ON UR 09? I HAV HAD THIS TWICE NOW ON A BRIDGE 4 LANE TRAFFIC! NOTE, THIS IS A LIFTED JEEP TIRES WERE NEW THT WAS DONE ALREADY WHEN PURCHASED IT FEW MTHS AGO.... '09
@@tupelohoney5192 I haven’t tightened my bolt yet I put new tires on and it quit doing it for awhile but now it’s doing it again. I need it in a lift to really torque it down
JKU'17, 80,000km, 2" lift, 275/65/18 Wobbles at >60km/h Replaced ball joints, uni joints, track bar, welded a washer to tighten the hole where the t-bar attaches axle side. Not sure where to go next. My mechanic says tie rods next... he also says that a dampener will only mask the problem, but it's tempting me. Your thoughts would be very much appreciated. Thank you. Peter
Hey, Peter! I'd absolutely recommend looking into new tie rod ends, you're going to want to replace all four of them. After that I would look into getting a set of adjustable lower control arms to correct your suspension geometry up front, or look into having your tire re-mounted and balanced in case they are the issue. If all else fails a new steering damper may be needed, but generally a worn damper only will not cause death wobble. -Zach
Hopefully this all helped, Monica! Definitely check your track bar bushings, control arm bushings, ball joints and tie rod ends. Somethings gotta be worn underneath there if you're having some shimmy or wobble. -Zach
This was great. Thank You.I already knew a lot of the reasons but you put it all in an easy direct way. I’m goi g to use it as my list as check everything out.
Good video to show how death wobble looks, but there are many reasons to cause it. I rebuilt the entire front end on my son's 2000 Cherokee, even replaced the steering box, still had the DW. Had the tires road forced balanced at Discount tire. Helped, but still had it. It wasnt until my son ditched the All terrains and put on some heavy lug mud tires that it went away. Guess the AT tires were the cause the whole time
i have front death wobble bad 30-40mph i purchased a steer smarts hd track bar, synergy hd ball joints, and synergy drag link, as well as a super lift rear adjustable track bar, i will be buying things as necessary and some things to simply upgrade other items will include control arms springs and shocks and tie rod my question is if the brackets are wallowed out it kinda defeats the purpose so i hope that isnt an issue lol
I had HORRIBLE death wobble on my 06 TJ. Steering damper was blown. Replaced it and about 2 weeks later was blown again. Replaced. 2 weeks later blown again. Turns out my passenger front tire was unraveling from the inside and a ball of mesh and rubber formed inside tire causing imbalance.
Hi Update. My mechanic has a jeep and had to do the same repairs to his last year! Thank you so much - they found everything and confirmed; needed new steering damper, track bar, track bar bushings, ball joints, (tie rod ends okay) wheel bearings, several loose suspension bolts from hitting pot holes at 80 mph, wheels will be re-balanced. My tires are almost new, winter studded on rims, I always have separate set for summer on rims and winter set on rims so lucky despite the pot holes my tire belt did not get damaged. $2,700.00 including tax and labour. My jeep has 100,000 k so I am thrilled to discover how to fix ahead of waiting for an accident. Thank you Jeep Forum you are terrific. love & hugs from the north.
I experienced death wobble for the first time yesterday, coincidentally after installing new shocks and a new steering stabilizer. I saved the original OEM stabilizer, and put it back on, and it seems to have resolved 50-60% of the problem. I think I probably had the problem, but new shocks just made it appear, Rough Country, not the best, but better than what was in. Problem only happens if going > 60MPH and hitting a pothole, otherwise drives normally.
It wouldn't surprise me if the new shocks are putting more stress on other worn-out parts of your suspension now that theres less play and more control from them. I would take a look at your ball joints, tie rod ends and other bushings for signs of wear. Other worn parts are likely the issue, not the new shocks and stabilizer. -Zach
My wife has a 2017 4 door jk with a 4.5 inch lift, 20 inch wheels w/35 inch tire that she got new. We've never had a problem with death wobble. But we have replaced a lot of the suspension parts to aftermarket recently. The rear calipers did lock up/fail to release and we are having to get new ones and rotors. The biggest problem is the rear gate cracking from the spare tire, we got an aftermarket thick gate and that started to peel apart a year later. Now we got a bumper w/tire carrier. But the helmet joint is rattling after4 months from the heavy tire(lol) putting back and forth weight on it when it drives. And all the aftermarket rear gate parts all started to rust after 3 months.....
Appreciate the video. Gonna check my track bar bolt. Had death wobble doing 75 mph on the interstate this past Sunday. Fortunately it was at 6 in the morning and not a lot of traffic. Had to fight it to a complete stop to get it under control again. But all the comments about parts being worn out is concerning to me. My Jeep is a 2021 2 door stock height (no mods) JL with 11k miles on it. Would my components really be worn out this fast?
Hey Zak! With a Jeep that new, I would get in touch with your local dealership to have them take a look at it. They may throw on a new steering stabilizer to help things out. There's always a chance that something loosened up in your front suspension that just needs to be tightened. Best of luck! -Zach
Bottom ball joints were SHOT on both sides. Replaced all 4 with Teraflex HDs and fixed the problem. (Still told the wife that a 2.5" full suspension upgrade was needed) 😁
MY WJ never had DW until I replaced everything, I mean total rebuild. One day doing 60+ downhill, off ramp hard on the brakes. LAWDY LAWD! I almost wets myself! New track bar too and a $2000 frame straightening, hope this helps. Thanks!
Back when I had my WJ I ran it stock for 2 years without any issues, but had DW as soon as I lifted it (new shocks, springs, track bar, sway bar links, rear sway bar!) Turned out being my front lower control arms and all 4 tie rod ends up front. -Zach
@@extremeterrain it's my steering stabilizer which, while hunting in the outback, took a heck of a blow from something bending the shaft. I noticed oil today on the inner passenger side front wheel. I looked below and thought it was the passenger side seal never thinking the shock was blown. The death wobble left me mystified. I've had her for 16 years never a problem till this.
You didn't mention 1, Loose ball joints particularly on older JKs with stock ball joints. 2, cracked knuckles around ball joints. And 3, The bottom pan-hard rod bracket on the dana 30 axle housings sometimes can have cracked welds. You need to know what to look for there. I personally just upgraded my front axle to a Tera44 from Teraflex and installed a steering box stiffener which has improved the handling. And more importantly no more death wobble.
DEAR, thanks for these informations. I've a Wrangler sahara 4xe with same exactly problem!! Can I'll use these parts for solution, what do you think please?
Just curious - I have only heard about this death wobble in relation to Jeep Wranglers. Based on what you showed, why does it not occur on other vehicles - it would seem to be possible.
Walter Willis it’s a symptom that can impact any solid front axle vehicle. The reason you hear about it on Wranglers is because it’s the most common solid axle vehicle on the road.
Death wobble, very simple fix, if any part ie, track bar, tie rods, ball joints ,bearing hub etc. are bad, most likely time to change all parts on front end, spend $400 in parts and replace all... Did it to my TJ and front end just like new, main culprit was Track bar and lower ball joints. Rent or buy the ball joint kit which has all the parts needed for jeeps, usually 21 pc. kit.
Would you happen to know the torque needed on that track bar bolt? You mentioned that it needs to be tighter than we can tighten, but I’m worried about stripping the threads on the bolt if I go hulk on the torque wrench and go too tight on it.
Is it recommended to have the Jeep on a lift before I tighten the track bar? If so, I'll have to take it to a shop because I only have a tire jack but I'm not sure if the jack could hold the entire weight of the jeep at the front diff, as the center point.
I had death wobble at 45 mph and did the exact opposite. Gassed on it and the wheel immediately straightened out. Braking puts more weight on the nose causing WORSE death wobble.
its happened to me 3 times in 2 months, each time at 45-50mph. never happened at higher speeds though, ill try to accelerate next time as ive been braking when it occurs
making your jeep wobble is easy, finding the problem to stop it can be hard, even with no apparent lose joints or bolts. I personally think it has to do with the formed trackbar instead of a straight one as being part of the problem.
I experienced death wobble on my 2016 JK that has a 2.5" lift. I was doing 65 coming down a steep grade on I-70 in Colorado. Terrifying is an understatement. Worn ball-joints was the culprit.
I have 2 2021 Saharas both under 17k miles, just put one in the shop, it’s been there 2 weeks and they’re saying it a steering adapter. After watching this video I think you solved my issue and I will be calling them in the AM to tell them what the issue is so I can get my car back 😂 now I know the name “death wobble” that should help with the repair on the other Jeep! It’s very dangerous on the highway
this helped a lot people made it seem like death wobble was so bad you would have to stop then call a tow truck and I've also come across people making it seem so bad that your jeep is totalled after or that it will be extremely expensive
Jeep has been sitting , too dangerous to drive . I almost lost it on the highway and it’s been a few weeks. Thankfully I have a second Vehicle but I just bought this 2009 w 50k miles from my Sister. I blew the transmission the first week! $2600 so that wasn’t as bad as it could have been. I replaced the stabilizer and that made it worse! Up until then it was a little wobble. If this works , you will get my Vote November 6th. Obviously you’re the best choice regardless and even if it doesn’t fix it, you still get my Vote. You I “trust” Thanks for the advice and I will let you all know it I am one of the 99%, normally I dance to my own beat. Stay safe people Peace to you all
It happens on the new ones too! Been driving a 2019 Wrangler Unlimited and at 70 mph any kind of uneven pavement throws it into the death wobble. Have to slow to 40 mph and wait for the suspension to get out of sync before accelerating back up to highway speeds. Absolutely ridiculous.
Hey, Lev! I highly recommend you get in touch with your dealership if you have not already to see if they can help out with your Wrangler. Steering shimmy on the new JLs can be traced to something as simple as your tire pressure being too high (usually it comes around 40-42 psi from the dealer, it should be closer to 37 though), your factory steering damper being defective (there's a free recall for that😁), or your electronic steering system just needing to be re-calibrated. FCA also released an updated front track bar with stiffer bushings and a new steering box to help combat shimmy. If none of those options have been working, I highly recommend getting in touch with FCA directly or JeepCares to escalate your concerns. Best of luck! -Zach
Thanks for the info Ryan, I'm going to take a look for anything loose & hopefully it's just that. I've also heard that since I don't really have a death wobble but I definitely have wobble, it could be that I need Hubcentric Wheel Spacers. Do you think that could be a solution as well? I have a 2013 JKU Sahara
Wheel spacers really aren't considered a solution or cause of death wobble. If you have loose steering, you should check your front end. Ball joints, tie rod ends, control arm bushings, steering boxes, etc. If there is wear in any of those parts - there could be wobble. -Zach
I purchased a brand new 2003 wrangler Sport (TJ) and experienced the Death Wobble when I only had 20,000 miles on the vehicle . I was on 95 South between two 18 wheelers going 55 miles an hour! The shake was so severe I literally saw Jesus at that time! I slowed down and the wobble stopped. Dealer replaced tie rod and a week later it happened again! Finally a mechanic told me to get 4 brand new tires even though I only had 20,000 miles on the original tires. That solved the problem, but it could come back anytime. I guess that’s the nature of the beast!
I think the mechanics take on your situation is a little misguided, in my honest opinion. Death wobble isn't something that can just "pop back up any time" for no reason. Wobble is an inherent trait of solid front axle vehicles like Jeeps and heavy duty pick-up trucks. The main cause of it is normally worn suspension components like tie rod ends, ball joints, track bar bushings or worn track bar mounting brackets, etc. On the rare occasion wobble can be triggered by old tires that are worn irregularly or just balanced incorrectly, like in your situation. For an example, if you went through and replaced EVERYTHING in your front end bushing-wise paired up with those new tires, there's literally 0% chance of you getting a wobble. It can't just happen for no reason. 😁 Just keep an eye on your front-end going forward and you'll be fine, Cyrus. -Zach
Anyone watching this should START by torquing the front end components. Could be as simple as that, and a free fix. Don’t start by buying parts for it! This is easily one of the better extreme terrain videos. I miss that guy in the video
You're darn right! If you're having occasional wobble issues or feel some loose steering, checking your front end for loose nuts and bolts is an easy fix. And while you're down there you can check for tie-rod ends and ball joints that need replaced! -Zach

Just started getting cold now it’s bad
That's the first time I've seen it from the outside. I've had it happen to me in a few of my jeeps but that's pretty crazy from the outside wow
Nice to see someone doing a straight-forward video on this. thx Ryan
OMG
I wish I had seen this video before and probably saved a lot of money.
I drive an 18 wheeler nationwide for the past 41 years, solo since '96, nothing has scared me more than my Jeep's death wobble, just two miles away from home
Thanks for posting this video I did wonder how it looked to others looking as I kept hearing those tires screeching until I came to a full stop, I was shaking myself so much than couldn't press the clutch to continue driving.... very scary.. WOW
@@Connie1Fan Why risk this? Chuck the Jeep and get a Subaru!
@@pattii55 thanks but that was fixed 2 years ago. I won't "chuck" the Jeep, is perfect now plus it has sentimental value
I had gotten 1974 Ford F-150 4×4
My brother didn't use it much, sat at my dad's bodyshop, it wasn't crashed, rutted away got trashed in the early 2000s.. my uncle thought me to drive a stick shift on that car, it was his and he gave it to me

this dude must make a fortune for extreme terrain. clear, simple explanations on everything. i know i have bought.
This is an extremely important video ! I had heard other Jeep JL UA-camrs mention it. Thank you Extreme Terrain !
Just got my 2018 JK Sahara 3 weeks ago. Looking into upgrades etc. This channel has been great for information and no question I will be buying your products because of the well made information in every video.
Hey Ryan, glad you like our videos!
Whatever you do, do Not get it lifted. This problem is not as easy to fix as this guy makes you believe it is
I was thinking of getting lockers next but i think the wobbleometer will be the next big purchase, but i can't seem to find it on the website
i don’t think it’s something you can buy, it’s more of something you need to fix.
I think the substitute for the woobleometer is a mirror zip tied to your steering wheel.
I took my JL to the dealer, just to find out that it was a recall for it,so,they fixed it for me at no charge!
The recall is for the steering dampener which is different but can cause the same issue
Did you have bigger tires when it wobbled?
E Baluyot ‘Nope’...I think that is the problem when you buy the very first generation since my Jeep is 2018 JL started wobbling after only 3 months...the good news dealer found the recall & fixed it for me...so far 18 months later...My Jeep ride like Champ!
This is why American cars don't sell well in Europe.
@@Inimbrium this is a problem with all vehicles that have solid front axles, its literally just something that happens with solid front axles...... that includes European vehicles.
Probably the most accurate description and fix of all time. Great job young feller!
My problem was bad ball joints. I got the Teraflex adjustable ball joints and I love them. No more death wobble. woot woot!
richarddbeck how did you come to the conclusion that’s what you needed?
Same here. I got upgraded upper and lower ball joints from NAPA and it fixed it.
Is your death wobble still fixed 10 months later?
Michael Varga After 2 years my Jeep still runs beautiful with the new ball joints
I have an 07 Wrangler, since 2011. I've never had this problem until just a couple months ago. Crazy man.
Thanks for watching, Phil! Best of luck with your Rubicon! -Zach
Wow. Same car and the dealer gave me the same stabilizer too. Still had wobble though. Hoping you don't find that to be the case.
New Jeep owner here - thanks for this video, very informative as to what the potential issues might be.
Thanks for watching Dave! Congrats on joining the Jeep family! -Zach
I tryed this last night and it fixed my problem right away. Steering is tight now and no wobble!
Who would dislike a helpful video like this one? Some people are never happy I suppose...
It wasn't the full story. read my other comment above.
I had the death wobble in my 2014 wrangler. I bought a skyjacker twin steering stabilizer from extreme terrain. I t took about thirty minutes to install( I’m no mechanic) problem fixed. No issues. Thank you for your great service.
Thank you for purchasing from our site! -Zach
Steering stabilizer will only hide the problem, temporarily, it’s not the cause or fix, from what many have told me.
May I know how much did this cost?
Thank you very much for this very educational video!!! We tightened the track bar bolts and death wobble went away! Thanks again! Saved us on our 3 hrs roadtrip !!
My Tj only Wobbles when I'm eating a burrito and trying to shift.
🤣
THAT, “MYSTERY BEING”, WOULD BE KALLED, “DEATH GOBBLE”……🤐
Hoping this issue will be fixed on my JL. Took it in a few weeks ago for an oil change. Found out there was a recall on the power steering. About a week after the jeep started to shake. Took it in and was told I needed a rear tire alignment. A few days later on the freeway it started again. Now I have to bring it back. I've had my JL for less than a year and never had any issues. I hope it's an easy fix.
I have the same problem! Did it ever get fixed?
Nice video, demystifying that awful death wooble!!! I had it on my old Cherokee xj after a 2 inch lift. The track bar end was a little worn out. A New track bar made the magic
Nice video. I have a 2018 JL and it does happened 3 times already. I will take it to a shop to make sure everything is tighten ..
Hopefully they're able to tighten things up for you and have your Jeep driving better! -Zach
My '07 had the death wobble, it was a missing wheel weight that would set it off after hitting a bump at speed.
Thank you, Ryan, much need it video. I experienced 3 times in one month DW. I am doing homework to fix the scariest issue of Jeep. Happy Jeeping.
Hopefully this video can help! Thanks for watching.
New jeep owner here. Really useful video
Experienced the wobble thrice now, and I hope this fixes it
These tips will definitely help out! Biggest things are checking for worn parts in your suspension and making sure your alignment is in-spec. If your Jeep is lifted, look into adjustable track bars and front lower control arms. Best of luck! -Zach
did it fix it?
For me I was just out of blinker fluid. I can’t believe I forgot to check it regularly
🤪👍
nice try
Great video explaining the dreaded death wobble. This problem is even worse on TJs.
Great video. I'm surprised you didn't mention anything about ball joints.
Remi Ramos they didn’t mention ball joints because they have no clue what death wobble is and how it works. Out of 98% of the death wobble issues only 2% were because of loose steering components. Majority of death wobble happens due to defective / broken / faulty ball joints.
Ball Joints fixed my wobble
@@sudkrap Ball joints and universal joints fixed mine.
@@xx0505xx well. Ball joints are part of the suspension and steering components. but I get what you are saying.
ahhhh I survived the jeep death wobble twice its so so scary! first time i thought the jeep was gonna fall apart and flip! and sad thing i notice the stering wheel has started to wobbles a little oh no here it comes again!😑

It's the dampener!!!...
Thanks for watching and hope this all helps! -Zach
This is really amazing,. Many people in Arizona drive Jeeps.
Thanks for watching! -Zach
This is crazy, just experienced death wobble for the first time. Watched this video and sure enough bolt was loose... Thanks
Thanks for watching and we're happy to help! -Zach
Death wobble comes in all forms, unfortunately. 😂 Thanks for watching and we're glad this helped! -Zach
I’ve not experienced this problem, but thank you for the info, it’s nice to know how to handle it, if it does ever happen.
Trust me when I say the first time it happens at highway speeds .. you will wish for a change in underwear. 😊😊
Super helpful video that was done very well. Appreciate your efforts to help me understand the issue, explain the fix, and not hard sell but offer up some good replacement suggestions. I will recommend and use you guys for being class acts!
Thanks for the love, Shane! -Zach
-Zach
Just diagnosed my wife's 2015 Jeep and found the axle side track bar bracket welds completely broken off. Thanks for your help.
Thanks for watching, Joe! We appreciate it! -Zach
26,101 miles on my 2019 Wrangler and experienced death wobble at 70, scared the crap out of me
Jerry Frances, I thought they had this problem with older models, but apparently it happens with newer models.
It's definitely not too fun! Thanks for watching! -Zach
If differential not align or centered it will cause death wobble which usually changes on jeeps when u lifts it, it changes the load on the track bar , if the track bar load is not correct the wobble will always be there

ok after driving around after power washing ..ect ect that did fix my issue does every time
JKU'17, 80,000km, 2" lift, 275/65/18
Wobbles at >60km/h
Replaced ball joints, uni joints, track bar, welded a washer to tighten the hole where the t-bar attaches axle side.
-Zach
Thanks for info I'll get busy checking it out!! I'm so done wobbling!!!
I’m goi g to use it as my list as check everything out.

i had death wobble in my 09 jeep and just had to get a new steering stabalizer
My friends Cherokee just had one of these on the interstate today, Helpful ass video!
Make sure he checks his tie rod ends and ball joints! Outside of the track bar those are the two most common parts to cause a wobble! -Zach
Guess the AT tires were the cause the whole time
Did they happen to be bfg at?
i have front death wobble bad 30-40mph i purchased a steer smarts hd track bar, synergy hd ball joints, and synergy drag link, as well as a super lift rear adjustable track bar, i will be buying things as necessary and some things to simply upgrade other items will include control arms springs and shocks and tie rod my question is if the brackets are wallowed out it kinda defeats the purpose so i hope that isnt an issue lol
Does it matter if the track bar is tightened while in the air or while on the ground?
This may be a dumb question but can I tighten the track bar bolt with the vehicle set on the ground or does it have to be lifted.
Yes, experienced it more than once. Traded our new Gladiator in for a Dodge Ram after the dealership refused to fix it.
I have a 2003 Jeep Grand Cherokee and I’m glad I saw this video thank you so much
I'm happy it helped! Definitely make sure to check out your ball joints, tie rod ends, and control arm bushings too! -Zach
Just had the death wobble for the first time on the hwy and it scared the absolute shite out of me. Im going out to tighten that right now. Thanks!
Thanks for watching! -Zach
She sounds like a whore you're wife sorry but facts sie has a jeep lifted with big tired shes definitely cheating
-Zach
Thanks for the reply. Waiting for an open appt to get it looked at. Hopefully it’s something simple.
Can I order Wooblelometers from your site?
Bottom ball joints were SHOT on both sides. Replaced all 4 with Teraflex HDs and fixed the problem. (Still told the wife that a 2.5" full suspension upgrade was needed) 😁
Thank you so much for this, saved me a ton of money with such a simple fix!
I experienced the shaking too. It was so scary. I'm still using the Jeep to commute everyday. Please advise. Thanks
Did you ever get it fixed?
It does...Ive worked on many lifted vehicles... unless you do it right, you will experience some problems...
Rent or buy the ball joint kit which has all the parts needed for jeeps, usually 21 pc. kit.
Exactly! People don't like to hear it - but wobble is a multi-part issue most of the time. Easiest way to solve is just replace everything! -Zach
Tightening it on the ground when it's at it's proper angle would be best!
I had death wobble at 45 mph and did the exact opposite. Gassed on it and the wheel immediately straightened out. Braking puts more weight on the nose causing WORSE death wobble.
Underrated comment.
its happened to me 3 times in 2 months, each time at 45-50mph. never happened at higher speeds though, ill try to accelerate next time as ive been braking when it occurs
Very helpful. Easy Fix ! Thanks man
Thanks for watching! -Zach
making your jeep wobble is easy, finding the problem to stop it can be hard, even with no apparent lose joints or bolts. I personally think it has to do with the formed trackbar instead of a straight one as being part of the problem.
Phillip Craggs
Nope... most likely the dampener... unless you other fucked up parts...
Check shocks first. One bad shock up front allows it to happen because there is no dampening on the spring.
Shocks can definitely trigger it too! Good call! -Zach
I experienced death wobble on my 2016 JK that has a 2.5" lift. I was doing 65 coming down a steep grade on I-70 in Colorado. Terrifying is an understatement. Worn ball-joints was the culprit.
Glad you found the culprit and got it fixed! -Zach
@@extremeterrain I just had it happen again so it wasn't the ball joints. I have the stock track bar so I'm going to replace it.

It’s very dangerous on the highway
Saw a wrangler doing the wobble a few Nights ago on the freeway. Never thought I'd see it in person
Oh.. it's scary.
Just had this happen when driving back to the airport in a rental jeep . So scary
this helped a lot people made it seem like death wobble was so bad you would have to stop then call a tow truck and I've also come across people making it seem so bad that your jeep is totalled after or that it will be extremely expensive
It can scary for sure if it happens when you're not expecting it - its reletively easy to diagnose and fix though! -Zach

Just give us a call if you need more help figuring out your wobble! -Zach
-Zach
what about ball joints?
Grant Crawford he did spherical joint , which translates to ball joints buddy hope I can help
-Zach
Did they fix this on the JL? How likely am I to run into thus on a stock JL if I use it as a daily and light off roading?
@extremeterrain what year is the jeep in this video? I love the dashboard setup. Can this be done to a 2000 wrangler sport?
Our 2-Door JK is a 2012! -Zach
Scariest day of driving in my life was on the freeway going about 65. Got the death wobble in my TJ. Absolutely terrifying
I just had this happen to me at around the same speed on the freeway today.
