Which means Raigeki is always better, because the BEST thing a Graceful Charity could be is Raigeki. There's no card in the entire game better than Raigeki in a limited format, even Pot of Greed doesn't match up.
This is the golden age of card-game content - I like how these different quirky card-game lovers has formed this extended group of friends/enemies which just cross-polinate to make more fun videos; sometimes new and sometimes the tried&true formats. (Though probably have to be rather careful about reusing cards since they may have seen)
It's very cool indeed. I would love to see some of the creators involved with it branch out more in terms of variety. I know "Magic player rates YGO cards" is obviously how you get the biggest audiences... but also I'd love to see more stuff for games like Elestrals, FFTCG, Flesh & Blood, etc. This is one of the coolest ways to actually learn about all the diverse card games that are out there.
The only one that is sort of weird is that there isn't too many crossovers or reactions to Pokemon cards even if there are Pokemon TCG content creators reacting to other TCGs.
Cimo didn’t mention the funniest part of Caius the Shadow Monarch, which is that Caius itself is a Dark monster, so if your opponent has 1000 or less life, you can use Caius to banish itself and burn them for game
I've watched many of these kind of videos of players of other games rating Yu-Gi-Oh cards and Cimo's are definitely the best ones by far. He does a really good job when it comes to explaining the intricacies of the mechanics in a very simple way.
for some reason there are very few "yugioh player rates pokemon cards" one of them is duellogs with his own pokemon channel now and one of the results is cimo sayin pokemon effects would be broken in yugioh. i would like to see more
There's another channel I like called "TheOneJame" and he's also been doing really well with this type of content. The guy also plays both Magic AND Yugioh, which means he does rating videos on both sides with all kinds of people and is able to "translate" perfectly what each card does.
@@faereman TheOneJaime used to be my least favorite of these, but he's really improved in terms of presentation and what-not. And explaining things so they aren't gotchas.
Cimo, please consider organizing a limited version of prog with some of the MTG guests you've had on and you can act as the ref for all the illegal plays that are sure to happen. I know it would be a lot of work but it could be CINEMA
@@fireball1249naw let them draft and old format and just let them be free. The thought process behind why they chose the cards they chose and the way they played it on their own would be awesome content.
I tried to teach my brother He said they look like dragon balls I guess more fire balls Don't know which is worst funny wise Most people, if they don't play Yu-Gi-Oh, say dragon balls as familiar thing that they know or they'd say fire balls if not heard of yu-gi-oh or dragon balls Z
I think Snatch Steal is better in Sealed than Premature. Snatch Sneal, especially in older formats, allows for bigger swings that ends games out of nowhere.
Came here to say this because man a Snatch Steal can swing momentum because of the effect it has on the active board rather than grabbing something out of their gy
I think there were a few cards where Cimo was thinking about them as constructed cards instead of draft/sealed cards. He seemed to very much be thinking in combos when in limited you can't rely on those as much.
@NeoZhinzo Especially knowing Goku's opening turn was "Mystic Adventure" to get "Heed My Call" along with playing his effect monster" Green Demon of the Wishing Orbs" allowing him to win despite going second via the alt win con "Your Wish Has Been Granted" of summoning that legendary monster "Red-Eyed, Legendary Green Dragon". It seriously would have been easier to pull the 5 pieces of "Exodia The Forbidden One" via the card "Card Destruction."
I think this format of the cards being delivered in pairs is much more entertaining. Not only does it make the player think more but it also makes us think more because we may disagree with you. I think you should continue this in the future.
I've drafted the Battle Packs a couple of times and am pretty sure that in a vacuum, I would take Raigeki. It's just ahead of the power level of most other cards and there are few if any graveyard effects that justify Graceful Charity for me. Seeing this amount of cards matters a lot less with the starkly reduced emphasis on combo gameplay and Raigeki is very consistently good.
Agreed, in a draft format, you can't guarantee that GC is going to let you actually plus off it, while Raigeki will definitely be a plus in card economy. It's all about what you are able to assemble, of course, but GY synergy isn't going to be nearly as strong as it could because of the draft format.
For a guy that had an entire series about drafting, cimo sure sucks at drafting. I have no clue how he thinks that raigeki is worse than graceful. And i am scratching my head why that itaqua card is better than cylinder. Most boards in draft are 1-2 monsters anyways so taking off 1/5th of your opponents life is very powerful
@@tartantulakid666etaqua is so much more versatile. I think it’s far and away a better card because it’s basically T roar that can be removal when you need it to be. Cylinder buys you one attack and generally doesn’t do enough damage to swing a game one way or another.
I owe one of my most vivid childhood memories of YuGiOh to Magic Cylinder. I had put a Lava Golem on my opponent's field(so they took 1000 damage at the start of their turn), which they tributed to tribute summon Great Maju Garzett, a 6-star monster whose ATK becomes double the attack of the tributed monster, only to walk into a 6000 damage Magic Cylinder. It wasn't enough to close out the game, but they still threw their hand on the table and had to get up and leave the room out of frustration mid-game.
One time a was playing a game with some friends usig old cards and i used the cyber stein + BE Ultimate dragon + Megamorph on my first turn and my friend had no monsters and a single backrow, we know the rest...
@@sora8711 Don't forgot the Magic Cylinders which give you the Magic Cylinder back and by banishing the Magic Cylinders card it doubles the damage the Magic Cylinder does.
The thumbnail is why I clicked. I couldn't imagine any Magic player thinking that card is bad. In Magic we're happy to pay three mana for that effect. When it's on a two mana card it's overpowered. Any free version would break the game completely.
@@trinketmage8145 I'm reasonably confident that straight Draw 3 discard 2 would be a two mana effect in magic. Plausibly even an instant if it were pushed for competitive play.
@@TheCardq Nah man, nah. Thirst for Knowledge is a draw 3, toss 2 for 3, and is a modern staple. At two mana the best you'll get now is blue cards that only draw 1 after scrying or red cards that draw 2, discard 2 at random.
It's Ithaqua, actually! He's one of these H.P. Lovecraft gods that are inexplicably popular in Japan and unknown in the West, so the localization team did a number on his name. (He was from Smith rather than Lovecraft, I think, but he's a part of the Lovecraft Cinematic Universe anyway).
The interesting thing to me about watching this web of videos across everyone’s channels is that it feels like Hearthstone is always in the middle mechanically between Magic and Yu-Gi-Oh. Yu-Gi-Oh’s traps are a lot like Hearthstone’s spells. ‘Every monster has Taunt’ helped both Voxy and Rarran understand the game; but because Hearthstone actually has mana it makes evaluating cards between that and Magic a lot easier too, and their similar power/attack and toughness/defence stats and life totals as well. It’s neat. I enjoy these videos a lot.
Another great examination of game design and theory! Voxy did a phenomenal job with card assessment despite not really knowing Battle Pack's unique environment. As one of the other four Yugioh limited enjoyers this was a blast!
47:22 No, definitely Chalice is superior in a lot of ways. It has a lot of amazong aplications like using it over your own normal summoned barbaros to turn it into a 3400 killer.
cant believe how far i had to scroll to find a comment on this one. I agree Chalice for sure, maybe i dont understand sealed format, but normally chalice is superior imo. both good cards tho.
agreed I actually think chalice is so much better negating monster effects is insanely strong and only giving the monster 400 more atk is better than shrinking a monster by 800 and is probably now going to die in combat also chalice works in cards like yubel and other annoying monsters to get over.
That's more of a situational thing than a common thing. I think Chalice is far more superior in modern due to how strong effects are these days. Back then, YGO effects weren't overly powerful but lance is especially great for sealed/Edison time. There are some devastating board wipes and removal cards that is more essential to protect your monster, like when I played Cyber dragons, I always have to power bond for Cyber Twin and going for game, I always have forbidden Lance and dresses to protect my guys going for game.
Seeing these, I'm very excited for when you start making videos with the Professor. Would be great fun to see some videos with Tolarian Community College! ALSO! I highly recommend inviting MTG player Nikachu on here! He does some great content on here, and is slightly familiar with ygo from a handful of these card reactions already.
I would absolutely love to see Nikachu in this series, he pretty much lives on evaluating specific cards and I'm sure he has some knowledge of yugioh already.
@baileydombroskie3046 nothing rude Cimooo often talks with his hands If you think that's naughty hand gesture, I think your very innocent to point it out
@ no. U misunderstand. Stop thinking w ur genitals and think of wat happened. The comical irony of cimo, like usual, waving his hands around while talking just so happened to perfectly time when the 1 card was swiped across off the screen to show a different 1. It made it look like cimo’s hand actually waved the card off the screen. His 1 hands’ movement just so happen to perfectly align and time w a card moving off the screen. That’s wat we r giggling about.
For Raiko and the Penguin, it's hard to make a compparison for these 2 because they came each in a different format, i can assume in a chaos or lightsworn deck of that era it would make raiko the better choice, but having a monster to bounce 2 cards or even recycle itself and bounce 1 for 1 and repeat that process makes penguin soldier also a formidable card of that time.
In a sealed format without the ability to do degeneracy with Premat I definitely feel like snatch steal is superior. You can get so much value from stealing their monster, sacking it for something of your own and not even allowing them the LP gain. One card with 0 cost becomes removal and fodder.
Had a pretty bad day but i'm fairly certain that this is gonna help improving my mood. I love this format and it is always so much fun seeing you show and give context about the cards in this game, others might say they're tired of it but i'm continuing to eat this up. Also me again saying that i can not wait for the day you show them XYZ Monsters.
Yugioh has always had the opportunity to make an meme version of “magical hats/mystic box” but call it “Mystery Box” with some blowout effect for choosing wrong. Flavor text: *It could be anything, it could even be a boat” 😂😂😂😂
I think the main thing with snatch steal is that it's a +1 while burial is neutral. yes you might only get a 1-2k attack/def monster, but you're also removing that monster from their side of the board. burial is better if you have some discard/mill and big monsters though.
Raigeki vs. Graceful Charity is really interesting. I think I'm leaning Raigeki after watching how it performed on the Progression Series. It's the classic "Do you want a boat, or the mystery prize? The mystery prize might even be a boat!" There is other removal (and even boardwipes like Dark Dust Spirit), but I think it's really hard to pass up Raigeki.
There's no way, draw 3 discard 2???? Even if you aren't playing a deck that has a lot of gy effects, this is still busted, draw 3 cards and get rid of 2 bricks? Graceful is probably top 3 spells ever, while raigeki is legal and nobody plays it
yeah i think raigeki and snatch steal are overall just better (than premat/graceful) in lower power level formats. Cimo went with the card that's better in modern format, but in sealed or something like GOAT he's wrong
@@mihecc In constructed yes, but Raigeki is 100% better than Graceful Charity in limited. It's better in constructed because every card in your deck is broken. In limited, the average card in your deck is pretty shit, drawing 3 extra cards could do you absolutely no good. The BEST CASE scenario with Graceful Charity would be if you draw a Raigeki, in which case, why not just have the Raigeki in the first place.
@@Sinzari a big factor in this is very much the set you're drafting to begin with. in a battle pack that sticks to cards suited to old school yugioh, with a lot of normal summons and not much else, then yeah banking on coming across a treeborn or premature in your draft to take full use of graceful is perhaps not the best idea. but if you're working with a set based around more modern gameplay, even just early 5ds era, then suddenly you can reliably find stuff like crane crane, quillbolt hedgehog, or background dragon that can dig themselves or other monsters out of the gy as their one thing, and those are likely going to be your primary way to access whatever extra deck cards popped up in your draft combine that with format-appropriate backrow with gy interaction like breakthrough skill and ghost of a grudge, and now the card selection and discard of graceful charity is a _powerful_ asset for any deck looking for strong playstyles that can fall to the wayside due to the inconsistency inherent to draft
My picks, chosen before the verdict of each pair, from a person that hasn't played sealed before or played yugioh since 2017: Witch (a beat stick could help, but i'm optimistic for future monsters being higher value) Raigeki (this early, idk how much value i can get out of charity, so it is a strong safe pick) Windstorm (cylinder does some neat burn, but windstorm protects an entire turn and may help you kill a strong monster, now being in defense) Penguin Soldier (this could bite me in the butt if there are strong continuous spell/traps. pretty 50/50 on this one. ryko can take me out of a bad situation 100%, penguin soldier gives me time and it depends on me having someone to follow up with to get ahead, but it stalls well and should get rid of higher level monsters) Caius (removal) Cyber Dragon (i need beat sticks, the frog would be better if i could build an entire monarch deck? maybe in tandem. immediate value vs long term value. also, the condition of no spell/trap could be troublesome) SNATCH STEAL (premature would have been neat with frog and charity) Forbidden chalice (i actually changed this one, when it was mentioned that it could be chained to an activated effect) (should have stuck to my guns too) Fiendish chain (i wrote an entire paragraph on slime, it needs a highly specific envirionment to be better, but if i picked chalice to stop effects, i'm picking chain too) Solemn judgment (i knew it was going to be here as soon as i heard counter card trap, lol. gotta stop that game changing effect my enemy may play)
Yeah cyber dragon I thought was a nobrainer, sure the frog is nice for a deck with many level 5/6 monsters but in a vacuum cyber dragon is a free 2100. That is broken in limited, it's like if you got to summon a 5/5 for free in magic when your opponent is the only one with creatures. A free 5/5 is disgusting. In limited you also just get to play the cyber dragon and another monster and are probably far ahead on board because cyber dragon beats over almost everything.
As someone that played a lot of duel links in the past, it baffles me that lance would be considered better than chalice. In my experience, chalice was a very solid negate whille lance was a super niche option.
You're right, and you don't even need to play DL to know that. Chalice has been the better card since it was released. if it existed back before chaos format, Lance would have been better since most cards would have been vanillas, but they didn't exist back then, they were released in 2009.
I thought the same thing at first, but then again, this is a Battle Pack format, so a lot of the power is leaning towards the Spell/Traps, while the monsters are good, but not game winning if you let them resolve.
Lance is played a lot more now in combo decks, for example Speedroid in order to prevent your critical combo pieces of getting destroyed or negated Tbh in the context of the video I would have chosen Chalice, the attack boost can get over stuff, there seems to be a lot more monster effects as well. Like if say, you use Lance to protect your monarch, a bunch of normal summons can get over it but there are so many good monsters to negate, even if they can get over you they are still affected by your back row
I really like the dynamic between the two of them : since Voxy doesnt know much about ygo, she really thinks like a MtG player, while cimo knows enough about mtg to understand why she thinks that way. Furthermore, the way he introduces each mechanic in a pedagogic way really is great, there is very little "this card is good because the archetype is good". The idea to choose a card between two is awesome. One of the best videos with this format ive watched
Raigeki is great in a limited environment, but I still think Graceful Charity is most of the time a better pick. (Raigeki is really really good though). Outside of limited it isn't even close.
This was amazing. Voxy is one of my favourite MTG players and it was fun to see you test her YuGiOh knowledge. It would be cool if you could get either The Professor from Talariean Community College or even Jimmy, Josh, Rachel and Lady Danger from Game Knights on here to test their YuGiOh knowledge...I feel like that would be fun. Great job as always Cimo and I can't wait to see what you do next.
@@nunocarvalho6671 You can bounce and reuse the penguin. Also, it is much better to bounce extra deck cards than it is to destroy them. Also good luck trying to destroy something like Stardust with Ryko.
I haven't played Yugioh since the early 2000s but I remember Penguin Soldier being an absolute beast in its ability to clear out nasty flip effect monsters or tribute/fusion summons. Flip it, bounce something plus itself, immediately replay it, and basically lock your opponent out of developing their board. I know flip monsters are too slow these days, but in a limited environment it'd still hose a good number of wincon threats.
In an alternate timeline instead of becoming a UA-camr Cimo becomes a historian and university professor. He always has that flair for education on top of the entertainment. I want to take his class on anything
Relating to the Raigeki vs Graceful Charity discussion, I think there is one crucial difference between MTG and Yugioh that kind of went unmentioned but does somewhat impact why draw is generally better than board wipe - unlike MTG, Yugioh has a _limited field._ We may not have to spend anything to play cards, but we're limited by how many cards we can have _on the field_ - you can't play a Spell Card if you have 5 Traps set, for instance; you can't have more than 5 monsters on the field outside of the variables of Link Zones, et cetera. In the _very niche_ situation where your opponent has managed to do the Link Summon shenanigans needed to take both Link Zones, the maximum number of cards Raigeki can destroy is 7 - and when these two cards came out, it was just 5. In Magic, your opponent could have boards with 5 or 6 actual creatures and then potentially _dozens_ of tokens, they don't have a limited number of Monster Zones like we do - so dropping a Raigeki on a board like that could destroy _dozens_ of threats simultaneously. Because Yugioh has a limited number of Zones, it limits the maximum value of a board wipe, while card draw is _never bad_ and - as was discussed - the Graveyard might as well be a second hand, and Graceful Charity is almost a flat +3 card advantage in a lot of decks.
I feel like the logic of picking premature burial over snatch steal goes against the logic of cyber dragon over treeborn frog. Personally, I think snatch steal is generically better in sealed vs burial.
one point on the graceful vs raigeki discussion is that its much harder to go wide than in yugioh than it is in magic not only is removal in many different forms much more prevalent, youre never getting more than 6 monsters, and realistically its probably gonna be closer to 2 or 3 meanwhile in magic you can get any number of creatures on the field. tokens as well are pretty valuable in magic, both to chump block as well as threatening damage if you have more 1/1s than your opponent has blockers
in draft, you won't be able to plus off the GC most of the time, while if Raigeki gets 2 monsters (or 1 tributed one) it's already a plus. in constructed, GC is obviously one of the most broken cards ever, but in these battle pack drafts, Raigeki is the obvious better choice.
Coming from primarily the Magic side, I think what Yugioh players are missing is how much worse card quality is in limited. While Graceful Charity is pretty close to "draw three cards" in constructed, you aren't going to have as reliable access to cards you want to pitch, or even cards you really want to draw. Meanwhile, there are few board states in limited where Raigeki won't be among the best cards you could draw.
@@Metallicityyou are trading normal summon and traps card in draft/limited. Board wipes are panic bottons they are good but not broken also draw is more rare that removal
@@lucasalarcon3230 Calling Graceful Charity "draw" is the biggest Yugioh-ism ever. It's card selection. You end up with the same number of cards you started with, a +0 in card advantage. Which matters a lot more in limited than full power Yugioh (and by the same token, putting cards in grave matters less). A spell just going +1 is already great, and Raigeki is eating multiple normal summons worth of investment on top of just the cards themselves. There's no point talking about the case of wiping 4-5 monsters at once because Raigeki never needs to do that to be amazing.
I dunno about snatch steal vs premature burial. I think in constructed premature is definitely a bit stronger because of the looping potential, where as snatch is just searchable change of heart, which we already have, it's called change of heart. But for sealed, the tempo swing of a steal is so huge. It does depend on your opponent having something good to steal, but for draft you can't really get away with not having some threats.
Yugioh monsters and battle can be rather easily explained to someone who has played Hearthstone before. You have limited space (5 in Yugioh, 7 in Hearthstone), you choose your targets, everything has taunt and charge.
Its not that simple. In Magic and HS, the monsters deal damage to each other simultanioulys (in Magic the damage "heals" at the end of turn). In Yugi-oh you only ever use ONE stat at a time, and whoever has the biggest number destroys the other. That IS the most important difference you need to explain for a Magic or HS player about Yugi-oh.
In a sealed environment, Raigeki is far superior. Graceful Charity is still +0 in terms of economy. And the other side of the coin, old yugioh wasn’t super reliant on building the graveyard in practice vs in theory. That also factors in you will get to build a deck around sending cards to the graveyard in a sealed environment. In a beat down deck build, Rageki has way more value to simplifying the game vs seeing more cards in Graceful Charity.
Yeah while graceful charity is never bad outside of when you have under 3 cards in deck, raigeki is basically never bad either. If you're ahead it allows you to attack for lethal in yugioh while if you're behind it can get you back into the game for one card. Most cards can't blow up 2+ monsters, but raigeki does it unconditionally unless they have a negate, but negates in limited chances are your opponent won't have a negate for raigeki.
i kinda feel like the analogy for magic players has to be that the normal summon is like a land drop, given that tribute summons are kinda like paying land to summon a bigger better land-creature. but then again, i dont actually play MTG
About "Graceful Charity", I don't think she picked on the fact that the 2 cards that you discard don't necessarily has to be two of the 3 cards you just drew, that you can discard 2 cards that were already in your hand prior, and keep all 3 cards that "Graceful Charity" just gave you.
Given that basically all similar Magic effects work the same way (except for the effects where you discard and then draw) she probably knew you could dump whatever you want. It's just that in Magic, and especially in limited, both in Magic and in general, card draw isn't as important. A way to dig for the bomb doesn't matter if you don't have the bomb in your deck. Of course in constructed the card draw would be much better, debatably in Magic too, but definitely in Yugioh.
Don't think that's the case, a very strong card in Magic called Brainstorm is very similar to Graceful Charity in that way, only difference is the 2 cards go back on top of your deck instead of graveyard.
Oh no...he's lured in another one to be traumatised by costless cards haha! Cimo should organise a tournament at this point for all the MTG players he interacts with, making them play sealed yu-gi-oh sets and play each other as he laughs at their mistakes.
I want you guys to play a game of commander, but Cimo brings a yugioh deck instead and you guys just try to figure out some rules as you go. And for bonus points just before you start tell CGB that he is the one piloting the yugioh deck.
Raigeki vs Graceful: The reason you would want Graceful Charity is in order to get to your super powerful cards. But you also can't draw powerful cards with GC if you don't draft them (e.g. Raigeki). In other words: if you already have a bunch of cards that are similarily powerful as Raigeki, pick Graceful. Otherwise, pick Raigeki. If this is the first card in the draft, pick Raigeki.
Yeah lots of commenters don't understand draft. I know Cimo has done a bunch of draft so he's able to kind of represent the nuance, but I think even he is falling for the trap of "but what if I could pitch cards that want to go to the GY in my drafted deck full of garbage" that so many people fall into because they know how broken GC is in constructed
"Ryko is way better" in a sealed environment!? Where people are actually liable to have tribute monsters out? Where you can't guarantee you want those top 3 cards in your graveyard? Buddy I've dueled against penguin soldier he's a nightmare for ruining extra deck monsters and anything that cost anything to summon AND anything with an equip spell. Penguin Soldier ruins snatch steal, can bounce itself for renewal, can ruin any monster that was a big play and you choose single removal with a cost that might really hurt in this environment??? Over an effect that is always useful if your opponent has any monsters, which they're gonna have? "Aw yeah risking the chance to toss your graceful, witch of the black forest and parshath is totally worth destroying 1 card, who cares about bouncing two monsters!"
Yeah, I feel like the video premise got lost in the analysis being very constructed minded. It doesn't help that even by Cimo's thoughts, almost EVERY pair was "close and could go either way". Good for showing off 2x as many card, a lot worse for a video or exposure imo.
yeah i cant believe they didnt consider the fact that bouncing is an easy out for monsters invulnerable to destruction and that some times bouncing is just as devastating as destroying when you have to put all the resources into summoning something and might not be able to retrieve everything from the graveyard to set up again
Soldier only bounces Monsters, Ryko can destroy ANY card and has extra qualities that make it better (Being a light). Ryko can deal with Tsukiomi, penguin soldier dies for free to it. Or even bouncing a Monarch can be worse if they have a treeborn like monster. That favours the balance to Ryko for versatility. Also this is all old cards when boss monsters didn't have much in the department of protection or floating.
In sealed, how many extra deck monsters is someone gonna be able to run and get out for you to penguin soldier? And in sealed, the moment you have ryko, you aim to get the graveyard effect cards, which...seem common enough to make it work?
@@FFKonoko it's also an environment with very crucial spells/traps and not many ways to get them back. If Ryko did like, discard two from the hand or look at the top 5 on your deck discard 3 then shuffle I'd say yeah it's probably better but it being full random creates a scenario where you risk losing substantially better outs than Ryko just to use Ryko, while Penguin Soldier will always do his job without ruining anything else you're trying to do
Graceful charity also enables what magic players would call dredge, except that dredge in YGO is probably stronger. Which is why graceful charity will never get unbanned and raigeki is at 1 (Great card though)
@@aka_Ingmar Limited/Sealed is pretty different from normal yugioh. Drafts means you have no guarantee what cards you'll get so graceful is only as good as the cards you MIGHT draft. Raigeki (especially in early draft) is a more stable pick. Both are fantastic, just depends on context.
It's the crazy amount of removal that makes the difference, if your deck has 10 0-mana wraiths you'd rather add a faithless looting than the 11th wraith Yugioh has removal build into the extra deck so all your combo pieces can be turned into removal
yeah, graceful might be a better card but in draft a power spell like raigeki is more valuable, another one is penguin soldier which I'd say its better than raiko in draft, since its able to swing boards much more efficiently and you dont care about the mills as much
@@awqweird Yugioh doesn't have that kind of format but in the closest format you can get (Goat) Charity is still better at the highest level, you only really summon 1 monster per turn so raigeki is less a boardsweeper and more a 1-for1 removal card, Goat is all about trading cards and playing patient until you can get a big swing turn going which isn't something that raigeki does well, compare it to e.g: metamorphosis or BLS who both give you a monster and remove something when raigeki only really removes 1 monster, sometimes 2 It's still a really good card but it's like the 7th best card while charity is part of the top 3 with pot of greed and BLS The one type format raigeki is better is a mid-tier format (anything post xyz but pre Duelist Alliance), were you actually get full use of the card economy aspect since you always commit everything to the board in those formats but removal is still at a premium
There is no way a Graceful Charity is better than Raigeki in a limited format. It's not even remotely close. It's broken in constructed specifically because you can have a lot of synergies with the discards. Graceful Charity was not that insane of a card before Discard/Graveyard synergies were popular, while Raigeki is the single best card in the entire 20000 card pool of Yugioh in a limited format, better even than Pot of Greed. Card draw in limited is not nearly as good as constructed, because you're drawing pretty crappy cards on average. If you had 30 bad cards in your deck and 10 good cards, you'd rather have the 10 good cards do something, than have the 10 good cards all be card draw that draws your bad cards. Also, Raigeki is only unbanned now in constructed Yugioh because of all the protections monsters have. In Yugioh around the time period of the battle packs, Raigeki was absolutely batshit busted, even in constructed. EDIT: I feel like a lot of people forget that this is talking about IN A LIMITED SETTING. No shit, Graceful Charity is infinitely better in modern constructed Yugioh, it's like a +4 for free while Raigeki can't even kill a single monster most of the time. In 2010 limited Yugioh though, Graceful Charity was a +0 while Raigeki was a blowout that won the game immediately half the time it was played, and set you very far ahead the other half.
The only way you could possibly think that it's better is if you're thinking about it from a Magic standpoint where you're not limited by summons. When you can only have six monsters at most, and some of them can't even be destroyed by card effects, if at all, Raigeki is pretty bad. There's a reason before anyone was really that into competitive that both cards were limited and one of them is not now and the other remains banned. This is not magic where you can have as many creatures as you want on the field. It is just not that good here. In general, it is a good card, there's no denying that, but better than Graceful in any way at any time? Never. Even the more powerful version of it in Lightning Storm - which is so good, it has warped the way people play their first turn in particular - is definitely not better than Graceful.
@@RunicSigilsLightning Storm is only better because it can also be Feather Duster at home in addition to being Raigeki at your poor cousin's home. Its monster destruction effect is strictly worse than Raigeki as it requires no face up cards and only takes out attack position monsters, unlike Raigeki which destroys everything with no conditions.
It wasn't popular before gy shenanigans but it was still absolutely busted. It just took people rethinking how to play to get them to look at graceful charity. Especially in old yugioh it was super easy to recover from a board wipe. Same in limited formats because of the lower level of power. So no, graceful is better than raigeki
I think Graceful is overall a better card because it's proactive, and will be a good card no matter what you pick up on your draft. Sure, Raigeki is probably the best removal in a draft format, but Graceful just lets you dig deeper into your deck and find the other "broken" cards you got in your draft (the ones that a lot of the time win you the game). Graceful can even get you a slightly worse breaker, like Fissure or Hammer Shot, which may not be enough to fully break your opponent's board, but just being able to dig 3 cards deeper into your deck lets you have so much more agency in the game, while a card like Raigeki is a lot of the time going to trade with 1 or 2 monsters. TLDR: There is a case to be made for both, but on a vacuum, the agency Graceful gives you is much better then Raigeki
@@soulssurvivor3455 It absolutely was not busted, if you play Goat format you would know that. The only times Graceful Charity feel great are when you have a Night Assailant, Thunder Dragon, or Sinister Serpent in hand. Most of the time if you don't have those, you'd end up holding Graceful Charity till you draw them.
Seeing as we're grabbing more and more MTG players for these series, Cimo, I'd recommend explaining trap cards to MTG players by comparing them to MTG's Foretell mechanic. Aside from the eccentricities of each game's unique mechanics, they're functionally as close as any two things between these games can be. For reference, Foretell is an ability that some cards have where you can pay a small amount of mana and exile them face-down, then you're allowed to cast them on any later turn. Usually there's a bonus effect for doing so, or the Foretell casting cost might be cheaper, or maybe you're just paying the mana in installments rather than all at once, but fundamentally it's almost the same as a trap card: put it face down, can't use it this turn, but it's ready as soon as the turn passes.
As someone who plays both Magic and Yu-Gi-Oh, it's kinda funny to compare which mechanic would more enticing for a draft. YGO? Generic draw power, no question. MTG? Gimme that board wipe!
The best way to explain why card draw is so strong is by explaining that cards are the resource in itself. So a draw 3 would be something like a black lotus.

Raigeki is Raigeki, but Graceful could be anything. It could even be Raigeki.
Brilliant!
"It could be ANYTHING!!"
Yep.
Which means Raigeki is always better, because the BEST thing a Graceful Charity could be is Raigeki. There's no card in the entire game better than Raigeki in a limited format, even Pot of Greed doesn't match up.

I mean it doesnt even have to be end game.
Turn two, take your opponent monster, tribute it/use it as material, swing.
Snatch Steal isn't just a threat. It is removal + a threat. Premat is only ever just a threat.
I think there were a few cards where Cimo was thinking about them as constructed cards instead of draft/sealed cards. He seemed to very much be thinking in combos when in limited you can't rely on those as much.

@@tartantulakid666etaqua is so much more versatile. I think it’s far and away a better card because it’s basically T roar that can be removal when you need it to be. Cylinder buys you one attack and generally doesn’t do enough damage to swing a game one way or another.

No, definitely Chalice is superior in a lot of ways. It has a lot of amazong aplications like using it over your own normal summoned barbaros to turn it into a 3400 killer.
Yup, or negating Jinzo so you can play some of the blowout trap cards.
cant believe how far i had to scroll to find a comment on this one. I agree Chalice for sure, maybe i dont understand sealed format, but normally chalice is superior imo. both good cards tho.
Absolutely. I was surprised with Cimo. I think Chalice is significantly better than Lance.
agreed I actually think chalice is so much better negating monster effects is insanely strong and only giving the monster 400 more atk is better than shrinking a monster by 800 and is probably now going to die in combat also chalice works in cards like yubel and other annoying monsters to get over.

@@baileydombroskie3046 could it be that the video we are watching is edited?

The mystery prize might even be a boat!"
There is other removal (and even boardwipes like Dark Dust Spirit), but I think it's really hard to pass up Raigeki.
@@Sinzari a big factor in this is very much the set you're drafting to begin with. in a battle pack that sticks to cards suited to old school yugioh, with a lot of normal summons and not much else, then yeah banking on coming across a treeborn or premature in your draft to take full use of graceful is perhaps not the best idea. but if you're working with a set based around more modern gameplay, even just early 5ds era, then suddenly you can reliably find stuff like crane crane, quillbolt hedgehog, or background dragon that can dig themselves or other monsters out of the gy as their one thing, and those are likely going to be your primary way to access whatever extra deck cards popped up in your draft
combine that with format-appropriate backrow with gy interaction like breakthrough skill and ghost of a grudge, and now the card selection and discard of graceful charity is a _powerful_ asset for any deck looking for strong playstyles that can fall to the wayside due to the inconsistency inherent to draft
The way I see it: Hammer Shot I drew > Raigeki at the bottom of the deck
Everyone always arguing in the comments on which answer is actually correct, but I'm just here to see the interactions between both parties
I hope this is leading up to all these guests playing a match against each other. That would be so fun to watch.
My picks, chosen before the verdict of each pair, from a person that hasn't played sealed before or played yugioh since 2017:
Witch (a beat stick could help, but i'm optimistic for future monsters being higher value)
Raigeki (this early, idk how much value i can get out of charity, so it is a strong safe pick)
Windstorm (cylinder does some neat burn, but windstorm protects an entire turn and may help you kill a strong monster, now being in defense)
Penguin Soldier (this could bite me in the butt if there are strong continuous spell/traps. pretty 50/50 on this one. ryko can take me out of a bad situation 100%, penguin soldier gives me time and it depends on me having someone to follow up with to get ahead, but it stalls well and should get rid of higher level monsters)
Caius (removal)
Cyber Dragon (i need beat sticks, the frog would be better if i could build an entire monarch deck? maybe in tandem. immediate value vs long term value. also, the condition of no spell/trap could be troublesome)
SNATCH STEAL (premature would have been neat with frog and charity)
Forbidden chalice (i actually changed this one, when it was mentioned that it could be chained to an activated effect) (should have stuck to my guns too)
Fiendish chain (i wrote an entire paragraph on slime, it needs a highly specific envirionment to be better, but if i picked chalice to stop effects, i'm picking chain too)
Solemn judgment (i knew it was going to be here as soon as i heard counter card trap, lol. gotta stop that game changing effect my enemy may play)
Cyber Dragon was Bonkers and was AMAZING to use in Duel Links ❤
😮 Lance over Chalice ? wow
Lance is played a lot more now in combo decks, for example Speedroid in order to prevent your critical combo pieces of getting destroyed or negated
Tbh in the context of the video I would have chosen Chalice, the attack boost can get over stuff, there seems to be a lot more monster effects as well. Like if say, you use Lance to protect your monarch, a bunch of normal summons can get over it but there are so many good monsters to negate, even if they can get over you they are still affected by your back row

I really like the dynamic between the two of them :
since Voxy doesnt know much about ygo, she really thinks like a MtG player, while cimo knows enough about mtg to understand why she thinks that way.
Furthermore, the way he introduces each mechanic in a pedagogic way really is great, there is very little "this card is good because the archetype is good". The idea to choose a card between two is awesome.

Raigeki is great in a limited environment, but I still think Graceful Charity is most of the time a better pick. (Raigeki is really really good though).
Outside of limited it isn't even close.

I disagree with Snatch Steal take. Taking opponents monster and tributing it is a good way of removal thats hard to defend against
19:28 she didnt have to do my man dirty like that 😢
Most of these are context dependant. For example, penguin soldiers can be better in a lot of situations. But, choosing ryko is not "wrong".
Just the non target part makes is so much better, sure it's 1 destroyed instead of 2 bounce, but ryko doesnt target and penguin does
@@nunocarvalho6671 You can bounce and reuse the penguin.

This was rad as hell, great back and forth between you two!!
I feel like the logic of picking premature burial over snatch steal goes against the logic of cyber dragon over treeborn frog. Personally, I think snatch steal is generically better in sealed vs burial.
I think, especially given the context was sealed, she was 100% correct about snatch steal being better
one point on the graceful vs raigeki discussion is that its much harder to go wide than in yugioh than it is in magic
not only is removal in many different forms much more prevalent, youre never getting more than 6 monsters, and realistically its probably gonna be closer to 2 or 3
meanwhile in magic you can get any number of creatures on the field. tokens as well are pretty valuable in magic, both to chump block as well as threatening damage if you have more 1/1s than your opponent has blockers
in draft, you won't be able to plus off the GC most of the time, while if Raigeki gets 2 monsters (or 1 tributed one) it's already a plus. in constructed, GC is obviously one of the most broken cards ever, but in these battle pack drafts, Raigeki is the obvious better choice.
And considering how prevalent evasion is in MTG especially limited. Where in Yugioh evasion isn't really even a thing.
I'm pleasantly surprised. Voxy's general understanding of the fundamentals that many card games share has improved a lot over time.
Also voxy did great and had really good understanding of the cards. Cant wait to see more
Yugioh monsters and battle can be rather easily explained to someone who has played Hearthstone before.
29:06 "Your sealed limited brain"
That sounds like an insult 😂
Seriously, bring back sealed showdown. That’s the kind of sealed series we want to see pick up at that amazing box tin set you stopped at.
This has got to be my favourite of cimoo series it’s refreshing to get an outside players out look on cards and the game
Most cards can't blow up 2+ monsters, but raigeki does it unconditionally unless they have a negate, but negates in limited chances are your opponent won't have a negate for raigeki.
hold on, 'main phase 2'ah, synchro on that thang' is an amazing username, my hatred for that meme aside. lol
i kinda feel like the analogy for magic players has to be that the normal summon is like a land drop, given that tribute summons are kinda like paying land to summon a bigger better land-creature. but then again, i dont actually play MTG
I love how Voxy unintentionally quotes Gage: "It could be anything" 😂
In a limited environment there is zero chance graceful is better than raigeki lmao. in constructed graceful is better for sure.
Her reaction to Treeborn Frog at 29:55 was so funny haha
About "Graceful Charity", I don't think she picked on the fact that the 2 cards that you discard don't necessarily has to be two of the 3 cards you just drew, that you can discard 2 cards that were already in your hand prior, and keep all 3 cards that "Graceful Charity" just gave you.
I doubt it, magic players just don't value card draw to the same extent because everything you draw has a cost, especially compared to a board wipe
I mean, its word for word the same as magic cards so I'd assume she knows how it works.
@@ZackSparksOn top of this, almost every single board wipe is a BOARD wipe, not a single-sided board wipe like Raigeki is.
Omg! One of my favorite MTG content creators!!! Let’s gooo! Now you just need the Professor to join you and you’ve got the entire squad!!!
Consider doing one with a LoR player one day, or the other way around.
Short comment for engagement:
I like the concept of having different guessing formats for different guests, it’s been working out really well.
Raigeki vs Graceful:
The reason you would want Graceful Charity is in order to get to your super powerful cards.
I know Cimo has done a bunch of draft so he's able to kind of represent the nuance, but I think even he is falling for the trap of "but what if I could pitch cards that want to go to the GY in my drafted deck full of garbage" that so many people fall into because they know how broken GC is in constructed
nah if the first Draft you still take the GC since it more than just Broad Wipe and you could get card that go with GC later on.
To be fair, if Airknight just had a bit more ATK the choice would be a lot more difficult.
this should be good
"In Yugioh you're not supposed to let your opponent have a turn"... truer words have never been spoken.
That's a wide stance
Bros got massive camber
Actually super cool to customize the format for the draft player, not a yu-gi-oh player but earned my sub
My name is Boxy
XD been a min since i thought of that 😆 😆 😅
ok so hai
You see *hmm* 😊
Kids these days don't know about the legend that was Boxxy.
I'm so glad I'm not the only one who thought that 😂
Would love to see some "coaching" content where you play a game of yugioh with some of these utubers you've been torturing on these card rating series
If Ryko did like, discard two from the hand or look at the top 5 on your deck discard 3 then shuffle I'd say yeah it's probably better but it being full random creates a scenario where you risk losing substantially better outs than Ryko just to use Ryko, while Penguin Soldier will always do his job without ruining anything else you're trying to do
been waiting for these videos! nice
Yay
You are such a great teacher. Now I can graduate from Yu-Gi-Oh and face the reality of my life.
Graceful charity also enables what magic players would call dredge, except that dredge in YGO is probably stronger. Which is why graceful charity will never get unbanned and raigeki is at 1 (Great card though)
Raigeki is at 3 I think
@@dudono1744 yup, unlimited in TCG. At 2 in MD though (relatively recent change, up from 1)
Goddamn, it really is the TCG Avengers with these collabs. Love to see it!
I mean graceful charity gets you to the boardwipes, it's no contest
But the graceful charity could have been the board wipe. Plus no guarantee it even comes back around to you in draft context
@ZackSparks yes but deck thinning
These MTG/Yu-Gi-Oh crossovers brought me here. Awesome stuff.
I feel like it would have to be an absurdly high powered limited format for me to rather want charity over raigeki
It's the crazy amount of removal that makes the difference, if your deck has 10 0-mana wraiths you'd rather add a faithless looting than the 11th wraith
Yugioh has removal build into the extra deck so all your combo pieces can be turned into removal
@@caesarsushi3238 yes obviously graceful is better in constructed but he said for a sealed/limited format
yeah, graceful might be a better card but in draft a power spell like raigeki is more valuable, another one is penguin soldier which I'd say its better than raiko in draft, since its able to swing boards much more efficiently and you dont care about the mills as much
@@awqweird Yugioh doesn't have that kind of format but in the closest format you can get (Goat) Charity is still better at the highest level, you only really summon 1 monster per turn so raigeki is less a boardsweeper and more a 1-for1 removal card, Goat is all about trading cards and playing patient until you can get a big swing turn going which isn't something that raigeki does well, compare it to e.g: metamorphosis or BLS who both give you a monster and remove something when raigeki only really removes 1 monster, sometimes 2
It's still a really good card but it's like the 7th best card while charity is part of the top 3 with pot of greed and BLS
The one type format raigeki is better is a mid-tier format (anything post xyz but pre Duelist Alliance), were you actually get full use of the card economy aspect since you always commit everything to the board in those formats but removal is still at a premium
@@caesarsushi3238 I know what yugioh is. He said in the context of limited
I think it would be a nice idea for you and the guest to play a duel or two. It would be an excellent and wonderful series
Cimo calling Edison limited just to relate to magic players has me dead
When the Bazaar comes out Rarran needs to assemble all the card game avengers and have them all stream the game together
The best way to explain why card draw is so strong is by explaining that cards are the resource in itself. So a draw 3 would be something like a black lotus.
I would love to see y’all do the arena draft format. Do miss that show.
in no world is graceful better than a non conditional board wipe in a draft.
You did my boy tree born frog dirty! It is like you said though, when you have a deck that uses a lot of tributes, he's excellent!
I love her cat so cute
Cimooo should have had his dog on his lap
