Just purchased a Grand Touring black on black soft top manual. Absolutely stunned with how much I love this car. I DAILY THIS CAR TOO. It’s definitely a sacrifice but I love leaving work everyday. Priceless. Also I went with the soft top because the RF felt more like a targa , which to me, didn’t give me enough of a convertible feel. Also no power top to give issues or extra weight. So much equipment too. Loaded car. LOVE IT.
@@baselkaskas2093 it had Bluetooth though I primarily use android auto. It has been 800 miles of pure bliss. I put in Paco seat lowering brackets and that has turned a tight fit into a comfortable cocoon. I'm gonna drive this car until the wheels fall off.
I own this car (a Soul Red Club very similar to the one shown) and I cannot believe you climbed into the trunk and shut the lid. I would die of claustrophobia in seconds assuming I could even get in there. Well played. 🤣
Design wise, I actually think this model is near perfection. It’s aggressive and sporty but still classic to stand the test of time. Shoot, it still looks fresh to me. Only area I would redesign are those tail lights. They’ve just never felt tied into the rest of the design to me. Ya, the front air vents mirror the taillight shape but meh. I think my only real desire for the next iteration to come would be a touch more accommodation for us taller folk. At 6’2, I was excited to see someone like Doug DeMuro fit, being 6’4 but eh ya…his legs were jammed up to the steering wheel and I don’t think mine would fare too much better 😕
I sat in one at an auto convention, and being 6'2" myself I was comfortable in the MX5, my only gripe is that I wish the seat was a bit lower as my line of sight was slightly obscured by the wind shield frame. I have to agree that this car is nearly perfect.
My only gripe with the design is the uncentered double exhaust pipe. It looks off and I'd rather have an all-around symmetric design. ULTER custom exhaust (or any middle mounted dual exhaust for that matter) cleans up the look immensely. Not to mention this way it would pay homage to classic British convertible sports cars mx5 drew inspiration from. I disagree on the tail lights. I think they have a nice design going on, especially when they light up in the night and they have that flower-like spread of led lights.
Enjoyed your video. I am a new ND GT owner. I have a few comments for you. The GT spec does come with wireless Apple CarPlay, not sure about the version you were driving. The slot at the side that you tried to put your phone into is actually a slot for the moveable cupholders at your elbow. The passenger can simply pull one out and place it there if needed. The lightness in the seat you mentioned is true in that they are not fully upholstered and overly padded seats like in many cars. To save weight, Mazda created a sort of hammock-like webbing structure in the seats, so I think they're quite supportive, but super light. There is also a knob on the side of the seat that you can turn to raise the front of the seat. The steering is also fully adjustable, telescopic and up or down.
I have a Mazda 6 GT turbo 2021 - soul, red crystal metallic (love it !!) but really wish I had a MX-5 (Miata) to go with it. Mazda really takes the driving experience into consideration and has some of the best engineered vehicles for the price in the business! I love how Mazda takes drivability and quality into consideration without the high price you see in other makes like BMW, etc.
Perfect summer car. Yes the info system is a little dated- who cares- the sound quality is excellent when I'm blasting tunes. It's all about the fun and driving experience and this car has it in spades. This design still looks fresh today years after it's introduction. Greetings from Alicante, Spain.
The tires are perfect, they let u have fun and easily kick the tail out, with stickier tires it isnt as fun, I've tried it. The most fun car u can buy right now and the rf looks incredibly good with the bbs option, lowered with spacers, like a little exotic.
9:40 is an alternative spot for the right-side cupholder. Duh. Do some homework first! I am an owner BTW. There's extra storage behind each seat, pull the backrest forward and you'll see. Ideal for all the small stuff you want to have onboard, but won't need/use often. And that hatefull lane departure warning - just switch it off. The car remembers, so you won't need to switch it off every drive - like in a BMW (own experience).
There's a tad more storage than it appears - there are storage compartments behind each seat as well. Nice for storing things that you want to have with you, but that you don't need to access quickly.
This is exactly my car I bought 2 month ago. I’m in love, she’s absolutely great, but bad point tester never talk about this particular red. It’s amazing when it absolutely clean on sunny day, like a jewel, but be prepare to wash it always and always because it’s very very "ditryable" (excuse my bad english). But in the end, this is an amazing car on little roads. I live near Alps, I already know I will have great times on my summer break.
The club trim does not have rain sensing wipers or auto high beams. I'm wondering what you meant by "not the new grill" at 5:45. It's called KPS, not torque vectoring. 11.9 gallons to be exact. Apple car play is wireless.
I got a set of Conti ECS tires that grip way better, especially in the wet. They still break free if you ask nicely, but they inspire way more confidence than the potenzas.
That slot on the side of the console isn't for your phone its to move the cup holder there. Also it has wireless Apple Car Play but not Android Auto. There is also more storage behind the passenger seat.
What are you talking about!? My iPhone SE fits perfectly in its little cubby next to the USB jacks. And the infotainment screen is in the perfect spot, right in my line of vision, without having to look up or down. Jeez. 🙄
Yeah people who suggest the MX-5 "needs a turbo" are way off, it's actually plenty powerful now with an N/A 2.0l 181hp. The car only weighs ~ 2340lbs (+ ~ 112lbs for RF) so the power to weight ratio is about perfect for a fun / rewarding daily driver (5.7- 0-60mph / 14.4 -1/4m.) Adding a turbo of course adds power but you're also adding weight, hurting your fuel economy, adding turbo lag, increase stress on the motor, etc. High revving naturally aspirated motors are the way to go in my opinion. Instant, linear, predicable power delivery all the way up to 7500RPMS is just so much more enjoyable than your typical turbocharged motor that resides in most cars these days. Unfortunately the market tends to get people fired up over test track numbers when in reality these test track numbers don't even begin to scratch the surface when it comes to articulating how fun and rewarding a vehicle is to drive. However, it seems more people have begun to realize that the "numbers" a car puts down doesn't necessarily mean "better" unless perhaps your actually racing your daily drivers for a living. Another thing is "ego" some people purchase cars based on 0-60mph times and so on because I guess they think other people will think they're "cool" or whatever.. Personally, I'd much rather actually enjoy my driving experience vs. worry about what other people think of my ride.
Best looking engine bay…hope Mazda never changes that! Move the infotainment down to the dash level and make it touch screen….that’s how you get rid of the rotary dial. Raise the redline to 8k-9k and tune for 225hp/200lb-ft and the ND will live on for another 5yrs!
I wish they made these cars just slightly larger. At 6'3" my knees are resting on the armrest and dash. The only model I've been able to fit in was the old NB Mazdaspeed Miata, with floor mounted race seats. Just an extra 8-10" of interior space would be a game changer!
An extra 8-10" of length would be a huge difference in size and weight on a car that is all about having minimal size and weight... they don't need to ruin the formula for the tiny percentage of the population that is 6'3" or taller.
Always enjoy your reviews. Nice blend of fact, humor and energy! It should be mentioned that the top trim in Canada (GT) comes with wireless Apple Carplay. Thanks!
Those are cup holder attachments and most people don't know this for some reason but since 2020 the GT has the better suspension and limited slip, just like the club.
I considered a Z4 before buying a 21 miata club soft top, but the Z4 doesn't have a manual. I was looking for a convertible so BRZ is not a competitor.
2022 Mazda MX-5 (Miata) continues to evolve ... Should increase size of vehicle some to improve look & comfort factors ... Mazda should also move away from the round look of taillights, looks very dated and there is so much that could be done for a better look to rear of vehicle ... Mazda offers one of the best maroon exterior colors out there ! Slainte' ! Cheers !
You think the exhaust note is bad? It's far more authentic sounding than the other offerings 27 to 60k priced which pump false audio into the cabin. It sounds great for a 4 banger. Not everything needs to sound like a chain smoker choking on mucus Awesome review. I recognize I get triggered over this car for whatever reason. I like the pace and the delivery! Might be because my ex called my old ND2 a girl car. You know what? It IS a girl car. And that makes it MORE cool!
OK. So... The 2022 model is supposed to come with Apple Carplay Wireless as standard (not AA though, bummer for me rocking a Pixel phone) and the little "holder" on the right side of the center console is for the cup holder, which can be moved... :P Other than that. Uhmm, cool review mate!
I'm guessing the cheap tires are to keep the initial cost of the car down. The large entertainment knob doesn't need to be replaced, keep your fricken wrist off of it and it'll work just fine.
