Thanks for letting us know you missed us! 😅 Don't worry-we'll be back in the kitchen again soon.
🤔 hmm what could be the next video’s theme…is it sweet? savory? sour?
I wish they keep the old format where they talk to each other about their dishes and how they make it. Maybe they could eat them together and talk about each other impression on one's dish.
Agreed. Came here to comment the same thing.
Agreed
I agree this lacks the charm the other vids had. As well as the storytelling aspect of it, not to mention that I also learn a lot from the follow up questions they have with each other
True dat
I came here to say that lol
This video feels incomplete without the usual intro and banter from those involved. Still made me drool, though; specially the chirazi sushi. 🤤
Yes! I love seeing their faces cuz they have such character!
I missed the interaction between them.
I agree here. That chemistry really ties the video together.
Definitely agree. I know they aren't a typical, over-the-top, UA-cam group of personalities, but I find them so soothing and their sometimes-awkward interactions so endearing and relatable.
OMG I WAS THINKING THE EXACT SAME
I think i speak for most of the viewers when i say we like the old format 🥺
Hearing different opinions and asking questions in when explaining the dishes really makes the video more informative
Also we would have gotten to know more about inga's cool new whisk💯💯💯💯💯
old format rules!!!
Hi! Korean here - the soy sauce that Andrew used is a type of soy sauce - called 국간장 (guk-gan-jang) which is typically used for seasoning soups! It's saltier than your typical soy sauce so that we don't have to use as much soy sauce for broths. Koreans typically use 진간장 (jin-gan-jang) for everyday use (including this dish!) :)) Thank you Andrew for showcasing part of my culture!
oh wow! i did not know there were differing soy sauces (thats so good to know because i buy my soy sauce from the local korean grocery store!)
thanks for sharing this!
@@spacespace652 all I know is that there is dark soy sauce and light soy sauce for my supermarket. Not aware of all the different kinds
Ahh thank you for clarifying! I was wondering why he used that since it wasn’t indicated in Maangchi’s recipe.
miss the old format! I think hearing about food and enquiring about it allows for more learning; would be nice to have that back! love this channel so so much, I've watched since day 1 and every new video is my highlight of that day.
Does anyone else think the transition between the recipes were very abrupt? It seems more like 3 different videos right after another. The old format of the banter and conversation really made the videos and connected everything, along with appropriate transitioning.
Agreed
Another installment of "Inga finds a way to incorporate savory ingredients into desserts" lol
im glad theyre experimenting with new formats, but experiments come with failures hehe
i feel like a major factor about these 3 ways we use ____ videos is the interactions. it's how the interpretations differ and the reactions of each chef have with each interpretation. it also just felt more comforting and friendly to watch.
this is unlike the how i cooked (large amount of) _____ where the interactions are a bonus, but not a need. i treat that series as more of a science/chef guide on how to look at an ingredient. unlike this series where it's mostly on the mindset and creativity of the chefs learning on their own and from one another.
i somehow prefer your old format :(( hope nothing’s wrong with you guys!! all the best to you all!
🤔 hmm… not exactly a criticism from me, more like an opinion. But the lack of intro and interactions between the hosts made this video feels really rushed…? Is it just me?
Yea just didn’t feel the same
Yea I kinda miss their interactions tho
Yeah same, felt like was watching a different channel
Agreed, I liked the old format much better
Maybe they're just trying out something
Oh I wanted to mention I really watch this channel because of you guys, not the food itself. I want more content where you talk about stuff.
But this was still really interesting and insane production quality
I agree with the other comments. I prefer the older group format. I enjoy listening to each of the hosts talk about the techniques that each other is using. I think it lends to more learning and overall a more enjoyable experience to watch
People here commenting that the video feels incomplete without them talking to one another... You are right, could be experimenting with a new format. Or, they could be attempting to travel to see loved ones and have a hard time syncing times to speak to one another, or they could also be recovering from illness as many people are getting sick with the new variant and waning antibodies from shots that need to be updated. Just saying it is possible that the new format is simply because life happened.
I should say I'm not trying to assume what has happened, but just saying the different format may be for reasons we need to be understanding of.
Same thoughts. There may be more to the format change and honestly, we don't need nor deserve an explanation as to why they chose to film this way.
I personally watch these videos for tips on using an ingredient in ways I never would have though to, and I get value from both the old format and this new format ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
inga be having random but amazingly delicate and hard to find products just sitting there for her use lol can’t wait for what she uses in the next videos
Why did I have a feeling that Inga was going to make something sweet with a typically salty ingredient? xD Love her! 💖
Yep true. I also know that. But thats what i expected but i also hopes too as its different and new approach.
Inga has 2 dominant moods when it comes to food:
1. Bread
2. Make the most unusual things sweet
I also prefer the old format! Love seeing friends interact, and I feel like we learn more from the questions you ask each other.
Also, does anyone know what the utensil Inga is using to stir the sugar is called? I don't think I've ever seen that before.
that would be a sauce whisk : ) it's ideal for steep-sided containers, like the small pot that Inga was using
@@lilyporterwright6206 Thanks for the info! Definitely gotta look into getting myself one of those.
The felt incomplete without all of you actually interacting!
feels incomplete without their banter in the beginning 🥺🥺felt more like a basic tasty video and not 3 ways we use 🥺🥺🥺please bring back the old format 😭
I preferred it when they react to each others recipes...... it would be better if they could try each other's dishes
Unfortunately, I found the new format disconnected the three dishes (like I was watching a compilation of three different videos) and I found myself less engaged with the content overall
I enjoy that it's always the first two people making great, normal dishes. Then Inga, coming in with a dessert, made of whatever ingredient is clearly not made for desserts. XD
I appreciate the new format! It's nice when y'all talk to each other but I think this totally works without. Thanks for expetimenting to find what works!
Inga's recipes are always so inventive, her brain is on a whole another level !
I absolutely love this new video format :)
Need to be able to add a second "thumb's up", for Inga's "eat straight out of jar" confession.
delicious recipes as usual, and i especially love how inga always experiments with sweet and savory combos!
Hello!
In Korea, there are generally 2 types of soy sauces:
1. “Jin” soy sauce
2. “Gook” (“Kook”) soy sauce.
“Jin” Soy Sauce is sweeter, and is used more frequently in dishes that have a bit of sweetness to them (ex: red pepper paste chicken and vegetable stew/닭볶음탕, red pepper paste rice and fish cakes/떡볶이, bibim noodles/비빔면)
“Gook” Soy Sauce (which is the one Andrew is using) is usually used for dishes that have no sweetness (ex: soups, Jja-Jjang myun, Jjam Ppong; “Gook” or “국” means “soup,” so “국간장” translated literally is “soup soy sauce”)
If you do a taste test, you’ll see that “Jin” soy sauce and “Gook” soy sauce taste very differently.
For jang-a-jji, i personally use “Jin” soy sauce because i prefer a bit of sweetness in my pickled vegetables, and to supplement/balance out the sweetness, I add more spicy peppers.
And for future reference, Jang-A-Jji, not Jang-Ga-Jji, Andrew; happy cooking!
Edit:
“Jin” = “진” or “진간장”
“Gook” = “국” or “국간장”
Great comment!
In China there are hundreds of soy sauce. Koreans keep stealing Chinese culture!
I never knew there were more than one type of soy sauce so thank you, I’ve learnt something today.
I like Inga’s energy. More videos with her, please 😊🙋🏻♀️
Please bring back the old format. It's so much fun to watch you discuss each other's recipe live. Please!!!
i really like this format of video! get to focus on the visuals of the foods, and a good mash up of the stories!
I like the old format, but I don't want to be as rude as others. I loved this video, but I think the interviews added tons of personality and depth, and really made me feel at home as an audience member. I will still love this series most of all, but it really feels very stripped down. It feels like it's incomplete or has cut corners or something. Still loved it, it's still almost perfect content.
I like the new format!
you guys cooking is masterful!
I prefer this format much better, which focuses on the food and is way better explained
Missing Alvin in the videos 🥺😢 is he not part of the team anymore?
These all look delicious! Wow!
Thanks for a great video 🤗
People keep talking about how they missed the old format, but for me, this is the exact format I had imagined it to be when I first encountered the video
Would love to see an episode on caviar, how you would use it/pair it with at home
Growing up in an asian household, soy sauce is always a staple in our kitchen, so it’s really nice to see new and unique recipes using this staple! Thanks for sharing 😻 didnt know there was a clear soy sauce too, that’s so cool!
try Indonesian sweet soy sauce.. it is incredibly sweet, and thick
kecap manis 😍
Andrew and Maangchi collab!?!?!! OMG CULLINARY MATCH MADE IN HEAVEN
Dishes looked great, but it seems like Rie's segment was cut off abruptly.
i realize this is like the old videos but without them talking to each other and presenting their dishes :( i wish they could put it back its more fun that way
Inga never fails to impress 🔥
I miss Alvin :(
I actually enjoy this new format a lot because today happened to be one of those days I am very tired of people lol, though I do agree that the transition between the recipes could have been better.
Love the Maangchi shout-out. They should invite her on an episode
I think one of you all doing an intro for the video could have resolved some of the abruptness.
I don't mind them doing it separately for a change nearly as much as others here since it might even just be a break from the logistical balancing they have to do to all get together to film/share with each other...
I really wanted to hear more about ingas gravy whisk! Those are lil rarer these days!
In shokugeki no soma, i remember momo akanegakubo use soy sauce in her roll cake to balance muscovado sugar. And here Inga make a dessert with soy sauce😍😍
As someone who grew up eating mochi dipped in a sauce mixture of soy sauce and sugar with my Japanese mom and her parents, it was so fun seeing Ingas take on a traditional and nostalgic flavor! (Her version felt reminiscent of the glaze on dangos)
The leafs turn more purple if they get more light. Purple is a way for plants to reduce the light intake, the other way around, naturally purple plants need less direct light.
I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again: Best food channel on UA-cam.
You know Inga is coming in with the sweet!!!
I really miss the banter! it's so weird to just hear the narration and not see anyone interact and react at all, makes the video feel a lot less cosy
Yum! these look so good but I miss the conversation between the three of you.
The soy sauce caramel reminds me of how Italians use balsamic vinegar in desserts/with fruits, it also gives that savoury umami to enhance the sweet :))
Can i say i still like the format... i can gather inspo etc. , but i REALLY miss hearing the live reactions from the others while you talk through the dish. I hope that can return in the future! xx
When I ate a perilla leaf for the first time I thought it tasted like Guava. I tasted a feijoas on a trip to New Zealand once and also thought of perilla leaf / guava taste. Anyone else think the same?
I just wanted to say no offense but where did Alvin go? I haven't seen him in some of the most recent videos. Did you guys have a falling out or something or is he just taking a break?
I would be so thrilled to see what Alvin would have as a recipe ?!
Please bring the old format back. Its much more interactive and many times informative with small tips from other 🙂
The perilla leaf reminded me of the debate BTS had about it a couple days ago
Other idols too.
Adding here to say that I, too, am team old format 🥰
Anyone in the UK have any ideas on where we can buy Perilla leaves? Quite hard to find normally over here :')
miss the faces but great video yall
Love the older version better. But worth an a/b test
I wish they got to share these dishes, but I understand that we're still in A PANDEMIC!
i miss the other cooks commenting over each others videos
i think it gonna be cool too use indonesian sweet soy sauce (kecap) on the soy caramel sauce
Inga!
The old format feels more personal, prefer that one
Where intro? 0.0
I think the reason a lot of people don’t like this format is because we watch your channel to see you. Just a thought though
I miss the conversations between them as they explain their food...
Your original format for this was much better. Without that interaction between you guys its missing a critical component.
lol the kkaennip debate… if u know, u know
I REALLY miss the old format, but if this is how it's gonna be from now on, that's fine too ):
Whoa, Andrew and Rie, I love you guys, but I think Inga wins. 🤠 I know, I know, it's not a contest. 😆
Inga, you are so sweet!!!
Something seems off about this video... still love it tho haha
noiceee
What did Rie put in her eggs before making the rolled omelet?
Some thing about Andrew making the marinated perilla leaf recipe after the BTS perilla leaf debate went viral lol
❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
Wow 깻잎무침 😍❤️
Where have you been Rei??
Inga is always like trying to sell us that she is using the main ingredient... But in fact is only 0.01% of the plate XD
Hi, I wanted to ask what’s a replacement for mirin and sake in cooking because im muslim and I want to still try japanese food
this lacks structure and a kind of frame without the cooks interacting with each other. please bring the old format back.
Miss the old format!
I don't mind this new format. It's nice if you do it this way from time to time.
But I still would like some videos with your usual intro and banter
I really miss the commentary between each chef on their dishes 😅
It clickbaited me i thought that it would be normal soya sauce.😅😅
I love the dishes and I love series of tell us what u made but I found this particular format of the video kinda weird I would love if u guys came back to the original one
Does alvin left about to eat and tasty???
Its not that i like it. But i like it more as when they share recipes and comments on each others recipes
Hi A.T.E community. I've been away for some time. I may have missed an announcement, nonetheless, is Alvin no longer a part of the team?
