I really appreciate how responsive you are to everyone’s comments! I don’t have any questions, just wanted to commend you on your excellent feedback! All the best to you 😃🌸
I am now 10 days post op and four nights into taping my nose and I honestly see a tremendous change in my nose and how I wanted it to look like! thank you so so much!! I was really worried that I might look like a dinosaur at first but now I’m slowly seeing my nose change into my dream nose ❤️
Thank you for this great video. I had an open rhino plasty and loved my results until after going to the gym my nose swelled up significantly. That happend 5 months ago but my nose hasnt really gone back down to how it looked. my doctor said i should massage which I am doing but like you said in your video I still wake up with a swollen nose. I am black and have thick skin. would taping still work for me at this stage. I had my surgery 7 months ago.
Hi. Swelling can last up to a year. If you have thick oily skin, you may benefit from topical Retin-A cream to reduce oil production. This can thin out the skin a bit. Another option is the use of low dose Accutane. Occasion you might benefit from steroid injections. Speak with your surgeon about these options. Good luck.
I just had rhinoplasty literally a week ago and I was so excited at the cast removal but I started crying cause I feel like my nose looks exactly like it did before. It's not as crooked as it was maybe, but I can still see a little bump on it, and it's DEFINITELY not straight like I wanted it to be. The nurse said this is just due to swelling, and once the swelling goes down the bridge will be straight. I don't know what to believe. I'm confused, depressed, and mad cause I feel like I paid a lot of money for nothing. Has any of you gone through something similar? Will my nose look better once the swelling is gone?
Valentina Ferrari she’s right mine looked huge bigger than what it was and i was depressed af, keep the bandages on it help with the swelling you’ll see the final result after 3 months
I just took off my cast yesterday snd the only problem I have is that I can’t close my right eye fully. There’s like a tiny slit open and it sucks. Im pretty sure its not normal, is it because my face is still kinda swollen? Can you close both your eyes?
I have very thick, oily skin and my surgeon reduced my nose size by a large margin. I'm at about the 4 month mark and it's bumming me out because every other week it swells up. It will start to go way down, and when it goes down it looks beautiful. Straight and small. Then I'll make the mistake of taking a couple shots of alcohol and hitting the gym, thinking maybe I'm past the point where it will keep swelling. Then, just like clockwork the supratip and tip swells up the next day and stays that way for a week. Then it goes down again. I understand at this point I'm pretty much just waiting for the skin to shrink and fit my nose. It's just driving me crazy because I feel like I can't live my life while I'm waiting for the nose to settle. I'm always worried if I touch it the wrong way or raise my blood pressure that it will swell up and never come down. Am I just being paranoid? Will there be a time that this swelling will stop and the nose will shrink for good?
Hi. Be patient. What you are experiencing is very common in oily noses. A little trick I use for my patients with oily skin is the application of OTC hydrogen peroxide on the T-zone of the face at night to kill the bacteria in the pores and reduce the oil output. It works wonders. You should go ahead and live your life without worry. On the days that you know you've eaten things or done things that will swell your nose, perform the massage and tape overnight to hold off the swelling so you don't find yourself fretting for a week. As long as your skin doesn't get irritated from the paper tape, you should do fine. This combination of actions should give you incredible peace of mind when followed intelligently. Good luck.
Great tips!! How soon can I start these exercises after my rhinoplasty?! My doctor told me to just stick with the sides for the first two weeks then the tip on the 3rd
I just got my cast removed. I’m 9 days post op! And I feel hideous. My nose is like a potato now. :( also when he removed my cast I still had a slight bump on the bridge :/ should I be worried. He explained my skin is very thin and there was a lot of swelling still. Also he showed me my after picture while I was under and there was no bump. So I hope it goes down 🤞🏼
You are very early after surgery. The slight hump is swelling under old hump skin. That skin needs to shrink wrap. If your surgeon is ok with, use my bridge taping regimen I show in the video to manage that skin and get it to lay down nicely. In ethnic noses, swelling can be quite excessive so be focused. Increase your protein intake and cut out salty foods/alcohol. Ice down after exercise or sex. These little hacks will help control the shape of the nose more effectively than just waiting for the skin to de-swell. The bridge will de-swell in 2-3 months and the tip in one year, so be patient.
Shah Aesthetic Surgery wow thank you so much! And for the quick reply! I will ask about your taping method! And I am icing away! My tip was actually nice prior to surgery. Just had a skinny nose with a hump. He gave me a slight slope and made my tip slightly smaller to match my new nose! I’m seeing improvement it’s just the bump that is slightly there! I hope it will all start to come together and I will try not took obsess over it!
Thank you!! I love UA-cam. My Dr hasn’t recommended any of this for swelling. I am 9 weeks post and still seeing a lot of tip swelling. I have green doing the massages and will now include the taping. I will also inquire about the splint when I return for my 3 month f/u He is out of town so it makes f/u a tad more complicated being he hasn’t seen me since a week post.
I am 2 months post op and i still wake up every morning swollen. I need to say that i have thick skin and also after rhinoseptoplasty my skin became sooo oily. I am so worried that i ll be forever swollen😢 it s such a difficult process.
Your nose will swell and deswell cyclically over the next 10 months before everything settles down. If you have thick skin some options might include: 1. topical Retin-A cream on the nasal skin or 2. low dose oral Accutane. It can help thin out the skin and reduce the oilyness. Those with thick, oily skin will have swelling the longest.
Shah Aesthetic Surgery Thank you so, so, so much!!! Thanks from my heart! I admire all the surgeons who make time to respond to everyone's concern!! Sometimes even some small words and encouraging does so MUCH! I've been told that thick skin takes longer to settle down but until you don't see it on your own skin you cannot actually believe it. Also all this "dents" that we gently feel under skin after the bones have been broken will they settle down in time? I mean you can feel them, not see them as much. Thanks again for the reply! With all respect to you DOCTOR🙏
@@jammiejo185 you are welcome. The edges of the nasal fractures may always be palpable. You just want them to not be visible. It takes some getting used to. If you can't ignore the feeling of the edge, it can be adjusted in a year under local anesthesia.
I’m nearly 4 months in an I’m so swollen still , I get headaches all the time an inside my nose is all swollen an red , I’ve been to see the surgeon and he said it looks fine but now I have these small bumps along the middle of my nose an it sticks out an also a small bump on the side of my nostril that looks awful , he said it will go in a few months an that it’s either scar tissue or pockets of air because of the swelling and my nose is still very stiff , I’m not happy with my nose at all an it’s really worrying me that I’m stuck like this esp with the bumps to i feel like he’s not telling me the whole truth an says things to get rid of me , I have a hump on my nose an at first it had completely gone but not with the bump I’ve now got it looks like I’m getting it back again 😫
@@kellylovejoy2169 you really shouldn't be all that swollen at 4 months. The tip area definitely could be swollen, but the bridge shouldn't be. Full rhinoplasty recovery takes one year. You are welcome to email me your photos to give you some guidance if you'd like. Photos from the front, both sides, and a bottom view to see your nostrils are really helpful. Email them to info@drmanishshah.com
Thank you so much for these tips. Im 2.5 weeks post op and have been struggling immensely with swelling and post op blues. How soon can I start these exercises? Is it okay to start now? I read that I should wait 4 weeks. Also how many months do you recommend doing these exercises for?
My patients start as soon as the splint is removed. They perform the exercises for 2 months until the nasal bones have solidified and 80% of the global swelling is gone.
Thanks for this video Dr Shah! After an open rhino, on average, how many weeks does it take : - for a patient to get their sensation and movement of the upper lip back? - for the nose tip settle down from being excessively upturned after rhino?
Hi I have a question, I was very impressed with my result after the splint was removed at day 7, nose was nice and straight with a refined tip, but now despite strictly following after care instructions, at 3 weeks I can see the middle of my nose start to grow a slight hump like the one I used to have pre rhinoplasty, and im worried as Im not sure if this is the actual bone thats swelling or cartilage, id appreciate if you could respond when you have a chance thanks!
If your surgeon is ok with it, I would recommend secure taping of this area at night to shift it into a more straight and flat position. During the day, the tongue depressors can be used to iron out/squeeze out swelling in the cartilage and skin.
Hi doctor, just about 4 full months post op, closed Septo/Rhino with bridge narrowing and tip refinement. I had a wide bridge with a bulbous tip. I wasn’t told whether i had thick or thin skin so I’m not sure. I also wasn’t told by my doctor either way, whether to tape or not, and I didn’t know at the time to ask that question. I still get “achey”’along the sides of my bridge, maybe due to what I ate or drank that day, I’m not sure. I also still have a great deal of swelling in the tip, it’s still very round w slightly more swelling on the left side of the tip so it appears crooked, even more so when I smile. From underneath it looks boxy and not refined at all. I wish I had taken photos immediately after cast removal bc I remember being happy w what I saw that day, not realizing how much was going to swell and forget what it looked like! I know I’m still early in the tip healing process but I feel like I’m not seeing much change in the tip now. I only had a 1 week follow up for splint removal and then a 1 month follow up and I was discharged 🤷🏻♀️. no other appointments unless there’s a problem. I thought that was odd, but maybe varies by doctor. My question is, would taping and massage at this point still help? Like I said he never said NOT to do those things. Thank you so much in advance. Please help bc I pray that the results I have right now are not the final! And I will be making an appointment soon to see him.
It won’t hurt to try. Tip swelling leaves by 12 months postop. Also ask your surgeon for a Medrol dose pack of oral steroids to help accelerate the reduction in tip swelling.
@@ManishHShahMDFACSDenvergood morning doctor from the East Coast! Thank you so much for the reply, especially so soon, and on a weekend🙏🏼 I will tape , and do what you recommend when I get an appointment. God bless for all your help to all of these people!
Hi Dr Shah, love how responsive you are! I just had my nose done about 1 month ago and have developed a slight bump. My surgeon said it’ll go away and there’s no need for do anything or worry about it but I was wondering if I should follow the massage tips you mentioned and tape even when told it was not necessary! Thanks in advance :)
Hi Situl. I always recommend that you follow your surgeon’s instructions. However. If the bump isn’t gone in another month, I would ask about steroids and taping. Good luck!
Can cleaning the inside and outside of your nose with an earbud or your finger nail cause damage like 1 week post op (just after all packing, splints and cast is removed)?
It really depends on how aggressive you are. Gently cleaning with moist Qtips is the safest way to go in my opinion. Too much pressure placed on the nose this early might shift the soft nasal bones into the wrong position. That's why my patients aren't allowed to blow their noses for 1 month after surgery. They can wash with bottled saline or use a Neti pot for cleaning gently.
doctor i need your help im 2 months and 3 weeks post op and and my nose is swollen and the tip is super high and it looks like a pig nose 🐽 what can i doo im super sad
I’m on day 11 feeling very sad because it looks BIG. My side profile is good but from the front it looks worse than before, I know it’s swollen but my brain keeps thinking the worst!!
I'm 5 months post OP, I understand every word you wrote. After the first/second month everything will be better, just be patient. My nose keeps changing everyday.
I know this is gross but you might want to take a pair of tweezers and pull the boogers out. My surgeon did this for me since I wasn’t blowing my nose (you’re not supposed to) and they were all stuck up there making it hard to breath
Hello Dr. Shah Since I'm entering my 7th week of post-op and still suffering from the swelling of the nose tip, do you advise at this stage : - applying Arneca cream/gel ? and/or - Massaging ? Thank you again 🎩🙏🙏
Ya where my nasal bone is by my septum, the skin is like really far away from the bone, not sure if its swelling but its freaking me out cuz it's just on 1 side
Thank you Doc Can you recommend a caffeine cream or tape to use? I got this from co2 laser 8 Weeks ago and it won’t go away. My doc is saying wait it out but I hate it and only on one cheek It’s small but noticeable. Thank you
Hello. You are welcome. Subscribe to my channel and find me on Realself.com to see my rhinoplasty discussions. My patients go back to the gym for cardio at 2 weeks postop and then start weight lifting at 4 weeks after surgery. Exercise will increase swelling so I recommend icing after exercise. Good luck!
I had a deviated septum from a jaw surgery that I had, and had a septorhinoplasty done. My dorsal hump was removed, and septum was corrected. I kept my splint, and used it whenever I had my glasses on. However, my doctor never explained any of the things that you are explaining now. I wish he did. The tip if my nose still looks bulbous. The hump was fixed, but now if you look at my nose, it either looks like it has a very slight hump, or as you get to the tip, looks like it has collapsed a little. 🥺
Yasmine Tete take a break from the tape to let your skin heal. Once the skin is healed you can try medical paper tape. But if you have a tape allergy, then skip the taping portion and just use the massage.
Hi , I had my septo_rhinoplasty 1.5 month before for dorsal hump removal and deviation correction . Now I’m feeling my nose tip is tilted to right side and one side of my nose looks more swollen then the other . What’s the reason ? Will it cure ? I’m really worried . My nose looks so weird 😢
This is normal. Decrease your salt and alcohol intake. Try taping and massage. The right and left sides of the face drain swelling differently and this is why everyone sees a small amount of asymmetry. Our lifestyle can make it worse. Follow my suggestions in the video with the permission of your surgeon.
Dr Shah, I wish that I could come and see you! I am in Kent, England. I am over 3 years post-op after a septorhinoplasty procedure. Swelling is almost the worst it has been! I have not been advised by my surgeon to do any massage techniques, only taping (which I only started doing 18 months post-op, I wasn't advised to do so sooner). I deeply regret my decision to have the procedure done. :(
I’m sorry to hear of your troubles. I conduct virtual consultations and can perform some assessment via email with high resolution photos. Please email me at info@drmanishshah.com.
Hey guys i got a nose job last year on December 18th. It’s already been a year and i love my nose. But now i can only breathe out my left nostril. I can breathe out my right, but then i can’t breathe out my left. I can breathe through both nostrils, but one nostril takes less air than the other. But then it switches, to being where my right takes more air but my left nostril takes less. I asked my surgeon and he said it’s the nasal cycle, but i could’ve sworn before my nose job i could breathe out through both. Anyone else going through the same thing? Doesn’t bother me tho, till late at night where i put my attention on it. I never notice it throughout my day Edit: Can i email you to take a quick look at the inside of my nostrils? The right one looks more closed than the left one. I don’t know if that’s because of the nasal cycle. I’ll check again when my right nostril takes more air in.
@Sidvicius11 Yea still happening to me. Sometimes one of my nostrils is completely blocked and can only breathe out the other ( Dont notice it btw ) unless i block my nostril and see.
@Sidvicius11 Ask your surgeon, mine told me it was the nasal cycle and i was just like “okayy…” don’t know if he messed up or what lol But when i go running it doesn’t bother me or lift weights
@@Blue-bi3pz i’m 1 month post op and have this problem, but it doesn’t switch i just can breath through one better than the other and trust me this is not normal! Hi Dr.Shah! Thank you so much for this video :) I just had a question regarding thick skin. I just had my rhinoplasty two weeks ago and I’m very worried about scar tissues occurring and being viable in my nose. Do you have any tips on how to decrease scar tissue from occurring?
Hi Maria. I think the best way to reduce scar burden is to control swelling with the techniques I've described. Also control the oily nature of your skin with retinols.
I am 4 days post op from cast removal. My doctor told me not to tape my nose. I have thick skin & my nose is very super swollen which I expected. My doctor told me the tapping isn’t necessary since it can pull and tug onto the skin so letting it naturally go down is better for me.
Surgeons have different opinions on taping and massage. Just follow your surgeons rules. That being said, thick skinned patients do the best with taping. You will need steroids most likely to reduce your swelling and that carries a risk of complications.
@@ManishHShahMDFACSDenver i figured. Ive been taking ibuprofen to help but i think he might consider a steroid shot down the road we will see! Thank you🙂🙂
Hey Dr. Shah! I love how responsive you are to all the comments even recently. I had a quick question. How accurate are the surgery table photos taken right after the procedure is done under anesthesia? Can I expect those results to be similar to the final result I will see in one year? I had a tip plasty with a rib graft inserted into my tip and I really love my after results that I saw in the operating room table pictures, however right now I have a lot of swelling due to my thick skin and I was just wondering if there was hope to have a similar result as to the surgery table pictures. Thank you so much
You will need to be vigilant and stay on top of your swelling reduction strategies to get the result you saw on table that existed before swelling and scarring set in.
@@ManishHShahMDFACSDenvermy Colombian doctor gave me 15 days of tapered prednisode, immediately post op. And 3 weeks post I’m starting accurate 20mg every other day. I’m using red light and frankincense and arnica and topically and internally. I’ve been taping weekly24/7, and after a month I only have to tape at night. 4 weeks post I start the massages
Depending on the patient, I perform the following procedures in office under local anesthesia: facelifts, browlifts, tip rhinoplasty, ear pinning, cheek implants, chin implants, lip implants, buccal fat pad excision, facial fat transfer, small areas of liposuction (face and body), breast lifts, mini tummy tucks, and reverse tummy tucks. All patients use Valium and Pronox as well to bring comfort during the numbing injection process. It is incredibly well-tolerated and most patients tell me that the average pain score for the procedure is between 2-4 total for the whole procedure.
@@ManishHShahMDFACSDenver I'm 1 week post op. Feeling great! Question for you. Should I be concerned about my covid mask leaving a dent on my nose? And if it did leave a dent, is that permanent? Or just because of the edema still on the nose? thanks!
Cheryl Ferry yes you should be concerned. Ask your surgeon for another metal splint to wear first and then wear your mask. Or tape your nose down during the day and then wear your mask.
I am 4 weeks post op and have developed a small hump on my bridge. My Dr didn’t advise me to massage at this point. I will see him at 6 weeks. What is this and Will this go away in its own
It's hard to know. Just wait until your surgeon says it's ok. Or ask about nighttime taping at least. At four weeks your nose is solid enough to tolerate that. That being said, I don't know what you had done, so I'd be conservative.
@@niamhjohnson7902 yeah me too i got mine off yesterday, the bump makes my profile look straight rather than a how its supposed to be...what did your doctor say
Very informative video! I recently had a septorhinoplasty with ear cartilage graft - would it be safe for me to do the massages and not cause the graft to shift position? Many thanks
It depends on how the ear cartilage was used. If your surgeon gives you permission to tape and massage then please do it. It can be very effective in the majority of postop situations.
Excellent video! Thank you so much :) I'm 6 months post op and I still tape every night and leave it on whilst I sleep. When I wake up my nose looks much nicer, it's more slim. It stays like this for maybe a few hours. My question - Is the appearance of my nose after I remove the tape a sign of what my nose will look like when it is fully healed?
I’m 40 days post op and still using tapes, The swelling of the right side is much less than the other side, and I feel that one of my nostrils is smaller than the other one, and I also feel that the base is tilted slightly. Would you please kindly advise. Thanks 🙏
Roman Sedhai yes i also had super uneven nostrils they are way better now! Also my nose is less swollen! I suggest you go visit your surgeon thats what i did and i still have follow ups!
There are only a few reasons why you might have a bump after your rhinoplasty: 1. not enough hump was removed, 2. you are developing a periosteal reaction in the bone and it is swelling, 3. there is a small particle of bone/cartilage that got left behind, 4. your surgeon placed a cartilage graft and it is now showing, and/or 5. you are just seeing swelling of the skin as a bump. Depending on where you are in your recovery since your nose surgery each cause has a specific remedy. I would recommend that you speak with your surgeon. Often touch-up procedures are quite simple. If you have any questions, you can email me your current photos to info@drmanishshah.com and I can maybe give a little more guidance.
Monika Platt do you still have a bump? I just got my cast off today and I’m experiencing the same thing.. my doctor did warn me though that this might happened because I have such thin skin and bruise easily.
hi doctor , many thanks for your kindness to answer our questions and concerns. i did rhino two weeks back, i understand the swelling and i am accepting it but my tip is very upturned (piggy tip) ! is it going to be normal ! this is scaring me a lot. please check my comment i am depressed!!! i see most of the girls are so happy with the results after removing the cast !! =( exceptfor me it was a nightmare.
RNS it is not unusual to have an upturned nose due just to swelling. When the swelling goes down, the tip drops. At two weeks postop, you have way too much swelling. You should ask your surgeon about a steroid taper to speed the deswelling process after one month.
Shah Aesthetic Surgery doctor i forgot to tell you that there is a weird smell inside my nose kind off bad smell ! I told my doctor he said its blood. But its still there ! And i ll be week 3 in few days and its still there! :( i hope there is nothing wrong ! What it could be ?
My surgeon told me to wear tape for 6 months 24/7. I can't wear it 24/7 because I have to go to work and I don't want to look like a freak but yeah it just shows how important it is to tape all the time
Doctor, I have a septorhinoplasty and my just removed my cast two days ago. I was told not to touch it at all for the entire year. But the swelling in my right side of the nose is growing (it was the side that my nose tip shifted to from my injury that led to the surgery). It was an open-surgery. Do you recommend I do the massage and tape or should I not touch my nose?
the itching is literally keeping me up at night right now, I don't even care that my nose is still stuffed and I can't breath I just want the itching to stop! taking the cast off tomorrow
Dr. Shah, great video. I'm 2 months post op after dorsel hump open rhinoplasty. The tip is droopy. Not elevated. I hate it! My nose is longer at 7cm too ! Please, will it improve in time? I'm so depressed.
Hi. In general, if someone has a hump only rhinoplasty and that hump was the reason their tip was not droopy in the first place, then removing the hump removes the lift on the tip and the tip drops. Preoperatively, this is known as a “tension tip”. If it doesn’t improve, it is relatively easy to rotate the tip back up and shorten the nose in the office under local anesthesia.
Hello Dr. Manish Shah, I had a revision Rhinoplasty done 2 weeks ago and my recent doctor had to take out a what we discovered was a too large of an implant on the bridge of my nose extending to the tip. It was so long that it was very noticeable and if I hadn’t taken it out it would have pierced out of my nose. My doctor was able to perform the removal and use my own cartilage to repair the tip, etc. I’m very worried though now because the tip of my nose is a light colored lilac color. I’m hoping it’s bruising from inside/outside and not damage to my blood flow for my nose. Is it normal to have discoloration just at the tip after 2 weeks? Thank you in advance if you’re able to answer.
Just had my surgery yesterday been nothing but pain I don’t know if it’s due to swelling or what but this shit hurts can’t wait to see the results after the swelling goes down tho.
hello Dr, just wanted to ask that.. after your surgery did you feel in the first or second week that the tip of your nose is slightly more upwards and uplifted as compared to before surgery
Hi :) That is actually quite common. It is due to swelling. Once the swelling subsides the tip drops into place. It can also be due to the amount of tip cartilage removed. The more that is removed, the more the tip naturally rotates to fill in the deadspace.
Hello Dr, I had a septoplasty just over a week ago. The splints and cast have been removed, so would it be safe for me to do the taping and massage/icing without causing damage to the septum?
Dr. - I am massaging on the hour every hour - except for at night when the tape is in place? In your opinion - am I massaging too much? Also - I am not massaging when the tape is in place as it seems to make the tape adhere to my face so much that I am almost damaging my skin to remove it. Only happened once - but I learned NOT to rub that tape for that very reason.
Hello. My patients only manipulate the nose with massage three times a day for a couple minutes at a time. They wear tape for 2 months at night then stop. Any swelling that remains after that point is managed by diet and steroids. If you irritate the skin with too much taping you can reswell the skin and set your progress back.
Hi Doctor. I am 7 days post op surgery. I had a septorhinoplasty done to fix my deviated septum and reduce the dorsal hump. He also did a very slight tip lift and my doctor said I needed the columella shaved in order to have a better profile. I feel so hideous right now. My nose is no longer slim and long like I liked and now it is short, wide and pig like with a point. Will the tip drop and look normal again once swelling goes down? Or am I going to have to get a revision done? I am so sad and have been feeling depressed to the point where I want to drop out of college and not go outside anymore. I have contacted my surgeon but I think he is ignoring me because I had an anxiety attack after my cast removal because it looked like not what I wanted. Can I send you pre and post op pictures for advice? What do you recommend? Any help is appreciated.
aarya nol you are only 7 days postop. You have a year until your nose is fully healed. Pace your anxiety. If you have a history of panic attacks or anxiety it is imperative that you work side by side with a/your therapist while you heal to give you perspective. I’d be happy to look at your before and afters to give my opinion. You can email at info@drmanishshah.com.
It been 6months of my surgery, but there is rigidness and puffiness on nose tip ,dr. Said it is due to graft that he putted in my nose tip for septoplasty but it is 6months now and my nose still look swelled😔
With cartilage grafting in the tip, it will take over a year for all the swelling to disappear. Depending on the reason for the tip cartilage grafting, you may always have a nose that is more stiff and supported than you are used to. South Asian and Middle Eastern noses often lack tip support so surgeons will add cartilage to create better shape and support.
I’m 4 week post op and got a hump removed and septum fixed which was showing in my left nostril and nose straightened, I have alot of side wall nose swelling and eye bag sunk in which makes my bridge look like it’s wider and no longer defined. I think I have thick and oily skin can I use my medicated retinol 0.25% on my nose and cheek again, and will the taping pull my skin off as the cream makes my skin dry and peel Thank you so much
Hi. I would use oral steroids and taping until you are 8-12 weeks postop. After that topical retinols would be safe to use without the worry of pulling skin off when removing tape. It takes a year for your nose to heal, so use that time wisely.
@@Welsh_girl_sian ask your surgeon to prescribe a Medrol dose pack for you. It’s a 5 day tapering dose of steroid pills that help reduce the swelling in your nose and can be used while you are taping to be more effective in shrinking your nose.
Hey, I had my rhinoplasty 2 weeks ago. I had a deviated septum and a bump in my nose. Around 1 week ago my surgeon removed my splint and revealed my nose. It was very swollen, as expected! Everyday I’m seeing new things on my nose, the latest being the fact that my nose is still a little crooked! I’m not sure if it’s going back to how it was before or if it could this be due to swelling coming down on just one side? Could you please advise, can swelling make you see things? thank you in advance sir.
Getting a purely straight nose on a normally asymmetric face is pretty much impossible. But swelling this early into your recovery will hide how much improvement you actually have.
Dr. Shah what should I do if my nose swells up after the gym I went back for the first time today and now it’s throbbing and kind of swollen I am two days shy of two weeks since my surgery
Hi, I am 5 weeks post surgery. I'm actually quite unhappy with my results. I had a fuller nose before which I felt needed minor adjustments but they changed the entire shape. I had an upper blepharoplasty at the same time too. The Dr said the nose now looks natural but I cannot see this. Can I please send you over some pictures for your opinion please? I think having two surgeries did change my face.. I like the eyes, but really not sure about the nose. I know it hasn't healed yet... I'm already looking into nose fillers for later in the year 😔 and a revision next year.
5 weeks is very early in the healing process. It will be a year before all the swelling is gone. You are welcome to email your photos to info@drmanishshah.com and I can take a look at what worries you.
Hello, I’m in my 5th month after the operation. I’m still doing massages quite regularly because I have a very thick skin, it is not very very swollen right now, it gets better day by day. BUT after I wear surgeon mask due to covid19, the tip of my nose got swollen a lot. The tip immediately gets wider and swollen even though I wear the mask only for max 30mins in a day. It again gets back to normal after I do massages. But I am confused, is it ok to wear surgeon mask? Or should I wear those transparent face covers instead of surgeon masks?
It is ok and safe to wear masks. Because your nose gets warmer under the mask, it swells up. Your tip won’t settle down to its final smaller shape for 7 more months. After you take your mask off, try gently icing the nose first. This will get it to shrink faster. Also your thick skin can be managed with topical Retin-A to resurface the skin and thin it out a bit more.
Hello, I just had rhinoplasty 2 weeks ago and one nostril looks more open than the other, is there a technique to improve this asymmetry while it recovers? make a thicker wing or lower it a little? Thanks!
There will be asymmetric swelling for a while. I usually recommend oral steroids at the 4 week postop mark and the use of silicone nasal dilators to shape things better.
Just got my cast removed yesterday it is day 8 post operation. I have thick skin and my tip is very swolen so i'm giving this method a shot plus also i'd like to do everything in my power to try and yield my most ideal result. A couple questions, can you leave the tape on all day? And also when doing it I was doing it maybe for about two-three minutes each exercise and I noticed a couple of very little drops of bright red blood dripping out of my nose (not the mucusy type blood), should this be of concern? Thanks and what other tips and caution would you advice? Appreciate the video!
Yes you can use the tape all day. My patients typically use it at night. I limit use to the first two months. The blood isn't anything to worry about, but the pressure must be gentle. Good luck.
Hi dr shah, thank you for posting this wonderful video! I just had fat grafting on my upper nose and the tip 4 weeks ago, however my tip looks huge and bulbous, the doctor told me it’s swelling and that very little fat was placed. Will this massage help or will I need surgery to correct this. Can’t wait to start this 🙂
@@ManishHShahMDFACSDenver dr shah thank you so much for the quick reply! I thought the nose tip would benefit from such a massage as it’s looking huge but if you feel it’ll settle down then I’ll avoid it. I thought fat grafting to nose and rhinoplasty would have the same kind of swelling and recovery. However do you think I would benefit from the taping method instead that you should us? Thank you so much once again and god bless you ☺️
DR SHAH. My surgeon doesnt advise taping. She didnt tell me why but my nurse in the OR says my skin is thick thats why I have swelling. So should I tape or not?
My patients wait about 2-3 months before reinserting the nose ring to avoid infecting the nasal tip. I would ask your surgeon for their guidance since they know the technical details of your procedure.
I’m 3 year post op. I informed my surgeon that I have swelling on My forehead area, when I apply pressure it leaves me with skin depression . Have you seen of this.? My forehead gestures a limited.
My daughter is 9 months post op to reduce a small hump and slightly refine the tip. Her nose looks great, so natural that family and friends don't even notice she had surgery. But there is no supratip break and we aren't sure if it's still swollen (she has medium thick skin and her nose still feel firm and numb) or maybe the surgeon didn't make one? She doesn't want to insult him by asking about it, which is crazy. Her Dr. doesn't like to do steroid injections. She wore tapes at night for 3 month post op, but never massaged her nose. She exercises a lot, so I know that can increase swelling. The last time she saw him was at 4 month and he will see her again at 1 year. Should she start massaging her nose now or is it too late? Also, can you use your fingers or do you have to use the tongue depressors? Thanks!
Actually I’d just leave it alone at this point. The last 20% of her swelling will go over the next 3 months. Let it proceed naturally. Not all noses need a supratip break that is obvious to the casual observer.
hi im 12 days post op and I have what seems like a bump a couple millimeters above where my actual nose hump used to be and it was super bruised when I got my cast off, I know it’s swelling but it’s scary to see it, any tips on nose bridge/bump swelling and how long it usually takes to go away ??? my surgeon said my skin is medium so I’m between thin and thick
hello im 5 months post op i have formed like this small bump on the left side of my bridge but when i tape it looks like its gone over the tape but when i take off the tape this bump is still there ..whats the reason for this?
You are thinning the skin a bit. Try a little topical 1% hydrocortisone cream to see if you can get the bump to go away. Try it for one week. If no luck, then stop.
I'm 20 days now after my rhinoplasty, I'm a little bit worried because there's a line vertical line appearing in the upper bridge . It's like a wrinkle. 😢😢😢. As days goes it becomes more obvious. Will it go away? Hohoho. Thank you
i had surgery a week ago. i am disappointed as I asked for a smaller tip amongst other things but it still looks the same... could it be swelling? the rest of my nose hardly seems swollen
Hello Dr Shah, I am 20 days post-op. I have more swelling in the tip of my nose internally which is producing a bit of discomfort/ stiffness on one side. One nostril seems bigger than the other. I don't know if this is due to my doctor bringing my nostrils closer into my face. Moreover, my nose has been getting more movement, thus, I have been feeling a few dashing feelings/ tingling around my face (upper lip, cheeks) is this normal? Thank you,
Helloo doctor! I am 12 days post op i want to know Should we tape the tip too? My surgeon did not tell me to tape the tip he told me to just tape the bridge but every video i saw on youtube would recommend taping the tip!!
@@ManishHShahMDFACSDenver thankyou Dr Shah! However i have a concern my tip is raised for now and it looks like a piggy nose and my surgeon told me it will go down in a month, and i want my tip to go down so if i tape my tip I'm worried that it will keep my tip raised and it won't come down
Hi I had one year ago the rhinoplasty. Everything was oke . I feel now there is a soft tissue and my gp told me aswell . So is this now helpful to do it. I didn’t had in the beginning tape or any massage
It might not be helpful at this point. A steroid injection might be a better idea, but I would recommend that you see your surgeon to see if they think it is a good idea at this point. Good luck!
I am exactly two weeks post op. Honestly I am not liking the bridge of my nose at all! It looks like a potato the side hump I had before the surgery is still sort noticeable...Im hoping its swollen and will go away...my doc said I really don't need to tape but I am going to take your word and tape it anyway...Thank you for posting❤
Armenti R many surgeons don’t require their patients to do this. It is my belief that taping and gentle massage helps guide the healing. If your nose looks perfect to you then I’d recommend staying the course. In other words, if it’s not broke don’t fix it.
Hello Dr. I have a question. I had my closed rhinoplasty 10 days ago and since the cast removal 3 days ago I had a small bump where my nose was the highest before. Do you think this goes away over the time? Have you noticed something like this by your patients? I have a meeting with my surgeon next week. Thank you.
Is the bump still gone after a few years?? I had rhinoplasty 10 days ago, feeling so sad the bump is there after the tape was removed (I didn’t have a cast). It was perfect for about an hour after the tape was removed then it returned and it’s so upsetting. I feel like I look the same as I did before. How long did it take for the bump to go away? My surgeon has advised I don’t need to tape it.
Dear doctor, I have a question for you, I would be very happy if you answer it. I am in the 6th month of my rhinoplasty, my nose gets thinner when I apply excessive pressure by squeezing from the nasal walls and edges of my nose with my thumbs. Does this indicate that I still have a lot of swelling in my nose?
The inside of the nasal wall where the bone is in the middle on one side of my nose is very swollen. It feels like a big hard lump. Is that normal? Just swelling? I'm only barely a month post opp. Thank you 💕
I got my internal splints removed today which took quiet some time for the doctor to remove it and the amount of pain it gave me was unbearable, my nose got super swollen after that and then the doctor put external splint on the nose afterwards and he told me to come after a week for the external splint removal, right now i am so worried about my nose, will my swelling go down after i do the taping and the exercises you told in this video?
Some patients benefit from an extra week of splint usage. Once you remove the splint in one week, taping and gentle lymphatic massage as I describe will help you reduce your swelling in the long run. Every patient has different issues that will determine the amount of swelling relief they see over one year. Please discuss your particular situation with your surgeon.
Hey Doctor please help me, I’m having the worst time of my life, I have thick skin and 1 month and a half ago I had rhinoplasty, the surgeon reduced significantly the size of my nose and he rearranged all the cartilages so that I could have a more projected tip… swelling is horrible everyday I feel all the cartilaginous area moving upwards and more to the right nostril, then I get to feel as they move back to normal I’d say! But it happens over the day all the time several times.. I’ve contacted my surgeon and he says is normal due to the short amount of time since the surgery was performed and that it will take around 6 months to settle if I get lucky…. But this sensations I feel in my nose make me feel so stressed and anxious… My surgeon said my nose feels like it moves because it may have some liquids inside that will eventually be reabsorbed and because all tissues are reconnecting and nerves etc… but I am so worried something may be not right… not sure what to do. 😓😓
Had revision surgery 3 weeks ago (thick skin) and my left side profile looks short and just fine but the right side is much longer and it makes no sense to me how that’s possible, could this possible be swelling. Also nostril holes being two diff sizes. Any guidance on this would be so appreciated as my anxiety is through the roof.
Till how long can you mold your tip? I'm 7.5 and my right half of tip cartilage is a lot longer and it's pretty obvious and also causing a bifid tip. Can I press it down still?
@Shah Aesthetic Surgery Thank you for answering me. I have really thin skin so all the cartilage contours are so visible and that split is so obvious. Next time around, should fascia be used? Think it was supposed to be used the first time around 😅
Hello dr i had rhinoplasty 1 and a half month ago and the picture my doctor took directly after surgery my side profile looked perfect but know my side profile still have a big hump and it’s looking like the hump i had before surgery
That can sometime be skin memory of the old hump. But, please get evaluated by your surgeon to make sure the hump was removed properly. If not, the surgeon can rasp the hump down further in 11 months.
@@ManishHShahMDFACSDenver thank you for your response the picture that the surgeon showed me directly after surgery the hump was completely removed is that a good sign? And is their a specific time for the skin to shrink?
Can I put arnica gel on my swollen parts of the nose?? & also how do I sleep... I am concerned because I used to have a prominent bridge since I had a bump but now that’s it’s gone you can’t see the bridge of my nose & it makes me feel so uncomfortable idk if it’s because of the swelling or what! Please give me your advise doctor!!
Arnica gel may help. Taping can also show you the bridge that you will develop by one year. If it looks wide it may be swelling, but it may also be how the surgeon left it. The taping can help you see the difference.
I'm 1 month postop and I have a small hump on the bridge and the tip of my nose is still big and round and not pointy and lifted like in the photo my surgeon took right after surgery. I'm very worried because it doesn't look like the photo at all ?! I contacted my surgeon and she said i should gently massage the hump and that the tip will reduce in size after 6 months - 1 year. very very worried because the hump feels like bone and the tip looks too round and doesn't feel like it will go away. I started taping in hopes of getting rid of the hump and "swelling". I'm very sad
Hello doctor, thank you for your video. I just had my rhinoplasty 2 days ago and I'm afraid that the tip of my nose is too high, if I notice this for another week do you think I can do massages to try to bring the tip down little by little? Thank you
Tips start high after surgery because of swelling and being in the splint, but they drop naturally as the swelling subsides. 80% of the swelling is gone in 2 months, but the tip itself loses its swelling by one year. Taping and lifestyle management will help this process. But at 2 days postop you are way too early to make any decisions about tip position.
I really appreciate how responsive you are to everyone’s comments! I don’t have any questions, just wanted to commend you on your excellent feedback! All the best to you 😃🌸
Iron Woman that’s nice of you to say. Thank you!

Good luck.
When did you start going to the gym again after surgery? Did you wait a month?
Nitpicking Nerd sounds like this person went to the gym only 2 mths after the surgery.
@Nigeria Biz Review Please tell me in how many days your swelling has reduced
When did you go gym how many weeks were you post up?
J that didn’t happen to me the only thing was my nose wasss huge and had pores and loads of blackheads
as as ik what you mean, he also wants me to put tape back on my nose when i go to sleep but the problem with that is the tape makes my nose sticky
J yeah I tapped mine every night for three months helps with the swelling
Good luck.
Agent47rulz how s ur swelling going? I am 8 months post op and having such hard time with swelling
I just had FFS which included Rhinoplasty 3 weeks ago, So your tips are very helpful thank you for taking the time to do this video video.

Same problem with me
How is it now ? I have same issue
Any improvement? I have this issue also.

Thank you for the tip Dr. Shah!

How do you feel 8 months later? Did it correct itself?
Hi! Just did a rhinoplasty 2 weeks ago. I did the tape thing and alot of my skin peeled when i took of the tape. What should i do?

I never notice it throughout my day
Edit: Can i email you to take a quick look at the inside of my nostrils? The right one looks more closed than the left one. I don’t know if that’s because of the nasal cycle. I’ll check again when my right nostril takes more air in.
@Sidvicius11 Yea still happening to me. Sometimes one of my nostrils is completely blocked and can only breathe out the other ( Dont notice it btw ) unless i block my nostril and see.
@Sidvicius11 Ask your surgeon, mine told me it was the nasal cycle and i was just like “okayy…” don’t know if he messed up or what lol
But when i go running it doesn’t bother me or lift weights

Can i apply Arnica Gel on the nasal tip too help with swelling.?
Yes you can.
Hi doc thanks for the video! What if we decide to continue to tape it day and night? Would it make a difference?
Versus taping just at night
It could help but people tend to get skin injury from too much taping. That worsens swelling and prolongs the cycle of recovery.
When can i start massaging after rhinoplasty?
My patients start at post-op day 7.
Shah Aesthetic Surgery and put tape on nose too? after 7 days?
@@bartekjnk1060 Yes. My patients tape for the first 2 months after surgery at night before going to bed.
Thank you🙂🙂

Thanks for the super helpful video. Just wondering my surgeon didn't ask me to tape my nose. Is it okay?
Just ask them first. I don't like to step on anyone's toes. It should be safe as my patients have been doing this for the last 17 years.
Hey Dr.
@@ManishHShahMDFACSDenver Ok so if I tape and massage my nose every night and eat clean I should expect The table results as my final results?

How much work can a doctor do using local anesthesia?!
Why do I have a bump after my Rhino?! 😭 I’m Devastated!

RNS it is not unusual to have an upturned nose due just to swelling. When the swelling goes down, the tip drops. At two weeks postop, you have way too much swelling. You should ask your surgeon about a steroid taper to speed the deswelling process after one month.
@@ManishHShahMDFACSDenver i will , i hope he agrees. thank you doctor.

Doctor,
I have a septorhinoplasty and my just removed my cast two days ago. I was told not to touch it at all for the entire year. But the swelling in my right side of the nose is growing (it was the side that my nose tip shifted to from my injury that led to the surgery). It was an open-surgery. Do you recommend I do the massage and tape or should I not touch my nose?
I recommend that you follow your surgeon’s instructions as I do not know your case.
How do you deal with the itching under the cast. It’s driving me nuts. Lol
Benadryl tablets unless there is an indication of an allergic reaction to the splint going on. Speak with your surgeon and have them check.
It’s not constant. Just sometimes I get an itch under cast I think because of healing and I can’t get to it. It’s awful.
Then Benadryl is perfect for this. Be patient as your cast should come off by day 7 after surgery.

He's hot

Hello Dr. Manish Shah,
I had a revision Rhinoplasty done 2 weeks ago and my recent doctor had to take out a what we discovered was a too large of an implant on the bridge of my nose extending to the tip.
It can be normal bruising. Speak with your surgeon just in case.
Dr. Shah shouldn't you tape the nose tip up post op as well? Specifically after a tip plasty procedure. thx
I’m some cases yes.
In some cases yes.
Just had my surgery yesterday been nothing but pain I don’t know if it’s due to swelling or what but this shit hurts can’t wait to see the results after the swelling goes down tho.
How is it going?
hello Dr, just wanted to ask that.. after your surgery did you feel in the first or second week that the tip of your nose is slightly more upwards and uplifted as compared to before surgery
I would clear it with your surgeon, but my patients start with taping and massage on post op day 7. Too much pressure can damage the septum.
Hi nose update?
It been 6months of my surgery, but there is rigidness and puffiness on nose tip ,dr. Said it is due to graft that he putted in my nose tip for septoplasty but it is 6months now and my nose still look swelled😔
With cartilage grafting in the tip, it will take over a year for all the swelling to disappear. Depending on the reason for the tip cartilage grafting, you may always have a nose that is more stiff and supported than you are used to. South Asian and Middle Eastern noses often lack tip support so surgeons will add cartilage to create better shape and support.

Hi. I have not seen this before. It may require steroid injections to improve.

You are thinning the skin a bit. Try a little topical 1% hydrocortisone cream to see if you can get the bump to go away. Try it for one week. If no luck, then stop.

Did your bridge go down? I have the same problem too 😭
Has this problem resolved? I’m having this issue now 😢
Hi Dr. are the massages and tape necessary for a good result? I am worried I could ruin my rhinoplasty.
Thank you.
Project J yes it typically does. That skin needs time to shrink wrap.
@@ManishHShahMDFACSDenver thank you very much for your quick answer 🙂
@project j is it better now? I have the same issue
@@sihammachlouch8055 the bump is not visible anymore but noticable if i touch the transition from the root of the nose to the bridge
Yes it does.
The inside of the nasal wall where the bone is in the middle on one side of my nose is very swollen. It feels like a big hard lump. Is that normal? Just swelling? I'm only barely a month post opp.
Thank you 💕
peepgirl 92 it can be normal this early after surgery.
@@ManishHShahMDFACSDenver ok thank you!
Peepgirl 92 how are you now, is it gone?
@@Samwise_92 did the swelling inside ever go down? I am having the same issue 😩
It’s normal. Follow your surgeons directions and guidelines. Keep your salt intake low. Avoid excess heat. Tape at night and after exercise.
@@ManishHShahMDFACSDenver 🙏🏻thank you god bless you
Had revision surgery 3 weeks ago (thick skin) and my left side profile looks short and just fine but the right side is much longer and it makes no sense to me how that’s possible, could this possible be swelling. Also nostril holes being two diff sizes. Any guidance on this would be so appreciated as my anxiety is through the roof.
It’s typically asymmetric swelling that resolves with time.
I'm 3 months post op and I still have a slight bump on my bridge, does this fo down or did my surgeon not take enough bone off?
It can flatten with time and massage. But, it may need secondary rasping after you’ve healed up.
Till how long can you mold your tip? I'm 7.5 and my right half of tip cartilage is a lot longer and it's pretty obvious and also causing a bifid tip. Can I press it down still?
Probably not. You can really only correct a bifid tip with surgery.
@Shah Aesthetic Surgery Thank you for answering me. I have really thin skin so all the cartilage contours are so visible and that split is so obvious. Next time around, should fascia be used? Think it was supposed to be used the first time around 😅
@@nieniemiauw fascia really helps.
@@od1n267 That is a good sign. The shrink should take no more than 3 months from the time of surgery.
This is all normal and will improve over the next 11 months.
@@ManishHShahMDFACSDenver thank you for replying! i really appreciate it. Hopefully it will all go away
How’s your tip now ? Does it drops with the nostrils ?
