A little knowledge can be dangerous, getting to know the why behind why things are done is just as important as the what. If you skim the barrel to get squish , say 40 thou. Is it logical to raise ports on inlet and exhaust 40 thou ? Just to keep timing the same, so you don't lower the power band rpm ? What about transfer ports, them too ?
    Thanks for all your time making these explanations available, you explain things well.

    Is there a sweeter sound on earth than the giddy child-like giggling of a man who's rebuilt a machine & is just realizing how well it's come-together? :D Bravo on the AV's on that thing (lol @ 'wet noodle'!!), am sure it's especially 'noodly' to you being you're unfamiliar w/ Echo's....echo created AV on chainsaws (in the mid 60's IIRC), I'd call my 590's AV the best that I've ever held in my life....but they don't 'move' the same way a Husq's AV moves, and they do move quite a bit (my 355t is firmer at 1.5yrs than my 590 was outta the box, I actually thought the 590's av was broken/improper til I realized it's just how Echo runs it :P )
    Thanks as always for the great vids, am realizing how late into the day it is and I haven't even gloved-up to begin reassembly of "conservatively ported build #1" here lol, gotta turn off the Y.Tube your vids are hard to turn-off once begun ;D

    • @joescissorhands141
      @joescissorhands141 2 роки тому

      Oh and kudos Re idling it so long, and not going into wood hard at first.... I actually had a Stihl rep (via phone..) tell me it was wrong because the flywheel fin cooling isn't being properly utilized :P I do only idle for tank 1, then (in wood) about 1/4th to 1/3rd throttle cuts for lil bursts but mostly idling, then into 1/2 and 3/4th on tanks 2&3 and by end of 3 I'm doing some full throttle cuts (short ones) It doesn't "go into service" then, it goes into 'light service' in fact my finished (kit)660 rebuilt top-end just saw 1st on-job use on Fri, to fell a big Pine, but I only bucked like 3 or 4 cuts with it (using my 590 for the rest) because after having a kit-saw shred for nearly 1hr into use I'm now OCD as possible on assembly & break-in!!!

    Do you ever machine skirts on pistons to change timing , or sculpt either inlet or exhaust side ?
    It seems to me a shorter piston would do the job of porting, but affect the timing of open and closed port.

    On stihl saws they did away with the old cylinder head gasket and use a new thin steel gasket. Wat would u recommend for all gasket surfaces..factory gasket or that paste type sealant u used on the Echo pot and pan install

  • @CL-ty6wp

    If you only raised the transfers , would it free up rpm similar to raising exhaust port? It seems it weould bleed crank pressure faster and allow the piston to finish it descent quicker?

  • @nicksanders9140

    There aren't a lot of any echo builds on the internet! Other than the new 2511T because its so light and you can get enough power out of it to run a full 3/8 chain 16" bar so most likely run a 20" panther kit.

      @@tinmanssaws THANKS MUCH, TINMAN. I DID MY FIRST CHINESE CYLINDER AND CAME-UP WITH THE FOLLOWING: INTAKE DURATION 160 DEGREES, EX., 155, SO I MISSED, AS EXPECTED ON MY FIRST TRY WITH CRAPPY SINGLE-CUT BITS. (TUNGSTEN/CARBIDE DOUBLE-CUT BITS ON THE WAY) BUCKIN'S BUDDY WHO HAS BEEN PORTING LONGER THAN ALL OF US SAYS "155 DEGREES DURATION, BOTH INTAKE AND EXHAUST, WORKS WELL ON ALL SAWS." DO YOU AGREE? I ALSO PUNCHED THROUGH A XNSFER PORT AND JB WELDED THE SMALL HOLE AMPLY. I ALWAYS RUSH-IN AND USUALLY LEARN A LOT SCREWING-UP THE FIRST TIME AT ANYTHING NEW...ASK MY WIFE!:)
