    I own both the Escort MK2 and uniden R8. The r8 blows this outta the water. The uniden also has more fine tuning options available on K band.

      Thank you for watching our video and sharing your feedback. We have an R8 as well and think it's a great radar detector too.

    I tested the original Max 360 vs Max 360c mkll. On KA 35.5 ghz the original Max 360 alerted 2 to 5 seconds sooner than the Max 360 mkll. On KA 34.7 they where neck and neck. I didn't find much range increase. However the max 360 mkll did have better false alert filtering. I like being able to download new firmware with Wi-Fi. The Uniden R8 costs the same and smoke's the max 360c mkll. You get longer range, better reactivity to instant on radar, and arrows that work better. Don't get me wrong I think Escort makes a good product. This model detector is not worth $699. This is more like $399 detector. The Uniden R4 is $289 from Sam's Club. The Uniden R4 has a lot more range than the Max 360c mkll. Mike Valentine said years ago it's all about range folks. The V1 G2 is $100 less and again it has longer range. This model radar detector makes no sense.

      Thank you for watching our video and for sharing your insight and experience. I have an R8 too and really like it. No question it's one of my favorite radar detectors for highway driving where I need the range, especially on trips from Detroit to Minneapolis on I-90 in Wisconsin. Thank you again for watching our video. ~ Carl

      How is the filtering on the Unidens?

    • @Automoblog
      @Automoblog  6 місяців тому +2

      Based on our experience, the filtering on the R8 is good, but the MAX 360 MKII is better. However, the range detection on the R8 is better, although the MAX 360 MKII is still good. It comes down to what you feel is going to be best for you. If you want a lot of features, such as an app that is compatible with Apple CarPlay and includes Mapbox navigation, the Escort is a better option for you. If you don't need all of those extras and you care more about highway range detection, you will probably be happier with the R8. Either way, I'm grateful you have watched our video and our channel. ~ Carl

      @@Automoblog thanks! I drive a Tahoe and a V6 Accord so its not like Im driving a 911 GT3 a buck 50 on the highway relying on these to keep me out of jail. I rarely if ever go more than 20 over the limit so I think the quiet Escort is good for me. Usually set 10 over, maybe 15-20 if I'm getting risky. Im not a triple digit driver.

    I got pulled over in Louisiana for speeding. citation had distance from me to the cop, speed, etc all that good stuff but the radar never went off any ideas what went on??

      Did they get you with a laser (i.e., lidar) gun? If that was the case, the detector may not have gone off if you were the first and only vehicle targeted. Officers are trained to fire their laser guns at a flat surface, like the headlight or license plate. It's such a concentrated beam that radar detectors often can't pick it up (it's different if you are the third or fourth car in the line as the laser beam does eventually spread out, like ripples in a pond).

    I have the original max 360 and have A LOT of false k band detections. Every 2 or 3 minutes in the interstate it’s a k hand alert. I want one with similar range and better filters without breaking the bank. I see ppl say the r8 is better with k filters and range. What are your thoughts

      The R8 and it's little brother (the R4) are both great radar detectors. We own them both. For reference:
      R8 Review: www.automoblog.com/uniden-r8-review/
      R4 Review: www.automoblog.com/uniden-r4-review/
      I just finished a long road trip from Detroit to Sioux Falls for a family event (about 900 miles/13 hours). I ran with both the R8 and the R4. They both struggled through the Chicago area with false alerts and with road construction areas on I-90 in some areas of Wisconsin. Range, however, was excellent on the open expanses of I-90 through Wisconsin and Minnesota.
      On a relatively flat road (with the occasional hill) in rural Iowa on this same trip (Highway 75 in Plymouth County), we recorded a personal record in range detection of 4 miles with both the R8 and the MAX 360 MKII in this video. The officer was stopped on the side of the road with another car pulled over. I had the R8 in my SUV, my brother was behind me with the MAX 360 MKII. The range detection was exactly the same in this instance between the two detectors. It was a rare instance where we could drive with two detectors at the same time, but being it was a family event we were driving too, we had the opportunity.
      For reference: I'm the older brother and the voice of this video. I had the Uniden R8. My younger brother did the filming of this video and the editing. He had the Escort MAX 360 MKII (the radar detector in this video).
      I hope that helps. ~ Carl

      @@Automoblog which one would u say has the best filtering? As long as they both have about a mile of detection I’ll be ok. I only go about 10 over unless I’m racing.

    Great device, but... They need a better mount. The suction cup falls off during large temp swings. Then don't touch the suction cup with a paper towel or you'll be buying a new mount because it won't come clean. Expensive device, cheap mount.

    • @Automoblog
      @Automoblog  3 місяці тому

      Thank you for the feedback and for watching our video .... using rubbing alcohol with your fingers is the best way we have found to get the mount clean (and then let it air dry). We also use rubbing alcohol on that section of the windshield as well. That has really helped ours stay put and keep detachments to a minimum.

      Is Mike Valentine working on any new form of technology or Laser detector that will successfully pick up Lidar usage? I'm sure if it ever happens it would have a $1,500.00 price tag on the detector

    Hey im stuck between two options, the MAX 360C MKII, and the MAXcam 360c. The only reason im stuck is if there is a performance difference. I heard you claim once that the Maxcam360c is the mk2 but with a camera. Is this true? Are there any performance differences between them? Thanks

    • @Automoblog
      @Automoblog  5 місяців тому +1

      Yes, that is correct. The MAXcam 360c is the MKII radar detector with a 1440p camera. Like the MAX 360c radar detector, the MAXcam also has the ability to connect to Wi-Fi. I think it largely comes down to how much you want to spend. The MAXcam will have a higher retail price at $850, versus just the MAX 360c radar detector at about $700 (not counting any deals or discounts). Here are some extra resources that might help:
      Overview of the Escort MAX family: tinyurl.com/bddes47b (in that video, we go over everything in the lineup so you can see the differences and similarities).
      Max 360c MKII Review: tinyurl.com/msdfusj5 (this was my review after driving with the detector here in Detroit).
      MAXcam Review: tinyurl.com/5anc3w5m (in this review, we mention the not so great performance of the Driver Smarter app, but since we did this video review, Escort has made substantial improvements to the app).
      Max 360 MKII Review: tinyurl.com/mwadv3r3 ... This is my written review of this video, but it goes into more depth.
      If you don't need the "connected" aspect (or the ability to connect to Wi-Fi), you can get the standard MAX 360 MKII (the one in this video). The performance as far as range detection, dual antenna platform, and false alert filtering is the same as the MAX 360c MKII (or at least in my experience). The standard MAX 360 MKII is less expensive yet, but gives you the same level of performance as the MAXcam or the MAX 360c MKII.
      Otherwise to your original question ... in my experience, the radar detector performance between the MAXcam and MAX 360c MKII is remarkably similar (and both have the Blackfin DSP chip from Analog Devices to mitigate false alerts). That said, I think it comes down to how much you want to spend and if you think having the "combo" of the radar detector and dash camera is beneficial for you.
      I hope that helps ... thank you for watching our video. ~ Carl

      This is an extremely advanced detection system. I purchased one and quite honestly it was way over featured and priced. If you are an "enthusiast" with detecting and find it more of a cool hobby than actual functionality for traveling, you will love it. If you just want something that works well, don't waste your money. I travel daily for work 160 miles/a day on interstates, state routes, small towns - $300 detector works just fine.
