    I "love" how every one complains about a symbol that they believe to be morally wrong, with little to no knowledge or willingness to honor our history. For instance, the Georgia state flag was changed just as this was. It previously displayed portions of the confederate battle flag. The current state flag just replaced the confederate battle flag with the actual Confederate States of America flag. Everyone quite complaining.

    • @JustLifeTravels
      @JustLifeTravels  Місяць тому +6

      Yeah the people who complain about the confederate flag tend to be the least educated group about American history in general and don’t really understand any of the symbolism behind anything in this country. They just see something, believe a random idea of its meaning they were told and that’s it.

    • @TonyStark-xr2om
      @TonyStark-xr2om Місяць тому +2

      Well, instead of complaining, I'd like to take this chance to make it a learning moment.
      We can see, that if the south was uninterrupted, it's still only about as productive as an agrarian society. Don't see any slaves, though he said some were originally brought over, where are they? Looks like the south just went further south, to just die some more. Not very impressive. Looks like your typical southern town, abandoned.

    • @JustLifeTravels
      @JustLifeTravels  Місяць тому +8

      The fastest growing states in the USA are the south, people are fleeing New York, California and several other northern states to go to places like Florida, Texas, Tennessee, the Carolina’s. Black Americans are moving in massive numbers to the Atlanta metro. Your point about southern towns being abandoned is pretty hilarious. You are here to make irrelevant points and that’s fine feel free. Honoring peoples history is not an endorsement of their beliefs. If I visit Roman monuments that does not mean I support gladiatorial combat and by leaving up the coliseum and being against ripping it down also does not mean I endorse it.

    My great grandfather was a lieutenant colonel in the confederate army. He's buried in Texas with a headstone paid for by the US government, inscription reads "Respected foe, gentle soul, a gentleman always. With respect, US Calvary". He died in 1892, and was given a military funeral with honors due to his protecting Union prisoners from abuse.

There was a tv series here in the 80's, called "Os gatões", or "The Dukes of Hazard", that showed a wonderful 1969 Dodge charger, but, it had that flag, that is now forbidden. I read a lot about the matter and now it is more clear to me. There is another city in the state of SP called Santa Barbara d'Oeste that also received iimmigrants from this war.

Brazil is a true "metling pot" where past identities have been replaced by national identity. Usually i would preserve dark history like the concentration camps in germany, but when you have festivals about the past, thats a different story. When i saw that these people were celebrating confederants where slavery was a good thing, everyman is not created equal, white supremacy, and no civil rights, i was at awe. Damn Brazilian Emperor Dom Pedro II. I hope one day they will shut that that dark history down for good and make it illegal to replicate anything from the confederants for these racist in the past.

    • @JustLifeTravels
      @JustLifeTravels  Місяць тому +3

      Well interestingly enough Brazil had far far far more slaves than the entire USA did, your argument could just as easily be applied to all of Brazilian history prior to 1888 which is a full 23 years after the USA ended it. The festival is to honor the people who established that community. We have videos in Nigeria you are free to go and watch and they have statues built for the famous slave catchers from their communities who made their cities wealthy by capturing fellow black Africans to sell into slavery to whoever would pay the highest amount.

    • @gmilkboy504

      @JustLifeTravels My question was why are you CELEBRATING dark history where confederates thought slavery was a good thing, everyman not created equal, white supremacy, and no civil rights? You just made your argument weak trying to justify the celebration, saying brazil have a long history of slavery, confederates are honored, and some black people from Nigeria sold their own people. The confederates literally came to Brazil because slavery was not abolished so they can beat, "ape", and force people to do their bidding. It's like saying German nazis should celebrate their heritage like it's 1939-1944 before 1945, even though these people killed over 6 million jews during that time. Your the reason what's wrong with the world today with this backwords' evil thinking. I never said don't erase (cut statues down, forget about history, don't learn about civil rights and confederacy), but one thing I will not tolerate and most people would agree is the celebration of over 500 years of slavery.

Were they ever reunited with their American families? Did they receive reparations from their slave masters?? I have a lot of questions buddy

      Slavery continued for a time in Brazil and several decades later it came to an end, when it ended Brazil had a massive slave population that was now free far larger than any other country in history. A lot of the former slaves would establish communities on the outskirts of cities which would develop into the favelas of the modern day. They will have by now fully integrated into Afro Brazilian and pardo culture.

      @JustLifeTravels  2 місяці тому +1

      Race mixing is extremely common in Brazil today so during the honoring of the confederate settlers you will see many black looking people who may even be partially related to the slaves and the masters of the original community but I can’t say a specific person that I know for sure that is true for.

    Yes it's valid people who lived there didn't want that flag representing their city they made that decision I think you guys did a little too much "siding" if you will with the Confederates vs giving us the history of the city like we don't need your opinion of why or what they wanted "he wanted a simple farming life" we don't know what he wanted you have a tour guide shout out to him he was ready to work he got paid for pretty much accompanying you all

      @@JustLifeTravels im a Libra I tend to be fair being honest I probably wouldn't mind you all leaning more towards the other side opinion wise but, the important thing is the history of the city. Imo it was left out or overlooked, facts on the city was what I was looking for. There were too many personal opinions for me the video wasn't very factual.

      The flag has been in Brazil since the 1870s, it has been in the USA aswell since the 1860s and it’s the richest country on earth. I think the flag might not be the thing that caused whatever issue you personally have with the Brazilian state.
