  • Leo and Max are doing so much better with their "wait" training. This is tuna juice, and for those who saw the first video, they're doing pretty great. They still have issues when one or the other is not finished with their treat, so UP come the dishes as soon as they're done so there is no argument, bared teeth or growling. Leo is the most protective and has snapped, but not drawn blood on Max when Max shows interest in his treat. I think I'll make that other video public, now that I have been assured by my chow chow friends that it wasn't as bad as I thought it was.

    Was raised with Chows since I was a baby, literally, he was 9 mo and so was I. They were not only incredibly intelligent but also protective but can be stubborn. Think she had to much patience considering how smart they are but over all good video.

    Thank you so much. Yes ... they are pretty spectacular and a year later this training has come in very handy in other situations, too. There is no other breed for us, either and we're also very glad we got two together. They are brothers but completely opposite in character ... which makes it all the more fun and entertaining.

    Just a quick note to say your boys are beautiful! I just lost my boy, at 15, two weeks ago. I'm heartbroken, but I love seeing these beautiful pups! And yes, our Chows have minds of their own sometimes, but it looks like you have really done some great work with them. Best of luck to you!

    I thought that was good. I only ever had one Chow at a time so it was a bit easier. When my last chow got about four he became so human like/smart. Great dogs.

    Two very beautifully groomed chows. I'm on my 2nd chow and wouldn't want any other breed. I do love my westie mix too but the chows are unique.

    I have a 14 year old red Chow, but not sure if she is full Chow. People stop me on the street asking about her or saying she is so pretty - and she is!!! Rosie loves to I go on several walks every day, lay in the grass or snow! She is very friendly with people & dogs. Rosie especially likes the attention of little children & seniors. Her best friend was a cat I had; the cat would wash Rosie's face, eyes, and front paws, Rosie would then return the favor! She took care of 4 kittens that I was bottle feeding - she did the washing & cuddleing for 9 weeks. It takes constant grooming to keep her free of fur knots and looking good, but she is my sweet Rosie Posy.

    They are doing SO much better!! We no longer must repeat "Wait" Just one "Sit" and then a "Wait!" They would sit there forever if we were mean people. But, we're not so they get a "Eat!" quickly after obedience. Good boys! {{I need to do a new video!!}}

    I found that video uplifting and funny that you actually got chows to do something which they do. i am on my second chow now and i will never have another breed ever now, having found these through my uncle, a breeder. They are the best indoor/outdoor combo dog i have met yet. best of luck.

  • @kirby8340

    Teach them the moment they’re brought home. I did this with my female chowchow which was 8 weeks then, and taught her to sit and ‘leave it’ when food is being placed. Now she always sits for her food without me even saying a command.

    Haha that's cute...I had a Chow, she just passed..so sad still but man it is really hard to train them isn't it. Lot of work and patience but your dogs are beautiful. They sometimes just don't want to do what we want them too lol. They are very entertaining in that aspect I think.

      We use Lupine. They had a FREE REPLACEMENT guarantee, which was especially nice when the boys were chewing. They also replaced them when the boys grew out of them. We bought them at Wags-to-Whiskers, but that store closed down. Check them on the web at lupinepet.com

    Wow. You got them a lot farther than I thought possible.
    ive had a german sheppard and a spitz that I could teach to sit and stay. the basics. But my roommate has a chowchow that's about 6 months old. I swear this dog doesn't care what anyone says. I heard they are more like cats. makes sence. I could never train any of my cats to sit and stay.lol

      I need to do a new video because they will wait until I either give them the hand signal or tell them to "eat" or "share" (in the event the treat is only on the same plate for the both of them).

    • @sammyblackchow9541
      @sammyblackchow9541 5 років тому

      LOL! Chows are typically hard headed and usually don't need approval from humans. "Go fetch you own stick" he says. My niece took her Chow to the vet thinking she was deaf. Vet just laughed and told her there's nothing wrong with her hearing. He explained to her about a Chow's selective hearing.

      Sorry for the delay in response. We had to turn off our internet and now I only get on via the Library. www.lupinepet.com/. They are guaranteed FOR LIFE and even through bites in them. We've replaced both Max and Leo's once after their "chew" period was over. They sell both harnesses and leashes and I rate them very highly! :D

    I have a 4 year old chow called Kayo and i understand what you are going through! I do some obedience training with him as much as I can to keep him in place otherwise they tend to get very stubborn and independent and lose respect for their owners and think of themselves as the alpha. I just posted up my first youtube video of him well actually my first ever youtube video! have a look =]

      @@valladolidfamvlogs3415 Unfortunately, we had to put Leo down as he bit our five year old. Leo became so attached to Joe (my husband) that when JJ would come into our bedroom in the middle of the night, Leo would protect Joe. No matter how we trained both JJ and Leo to interact with each other, Leo snapped at JJ three times. The final snap broke skin and we knew we had no other choice. It was the WORST decision we ever had to make ... choosing between one child or another. But JJ had to come first and we knew we could not rehome Leo because of this aggression. It breaks my heart still to this day!

      As far as food goes, we trust Taste of the Wild. Max seems to like ALL the flavors and currently we're back to Prairie. It's a bit expensive, but with Max's oily skin, it is essential that we give him food that will not upset his tummy or his skin problem.
