- Why does everyone like the Mii's So much. A simple question but it has a more complicated answer. so we dive in to the numerous appearances of the Mii's. From Nintendo land to wii sports and even the Mii Plaza.
Introducing a new iteration of the Wii Sports series, Nintendo Switch Sports! Play sports such as Bowling, Tennis, & Chambara as well as three new additional sports including Soccer, Badminton, and Volleyball. Nintendo Switch Sports was recently announced, and I have been playing the Wii Series games since then. Everybody remembers Wii Sports and Wii Sports Resort. But there actually was a game that sold very well that is not often talked about today. Wii Play.

@@InfiniteBits Well, as someone who has created a lot of Miis from my mind, replacements would devastate me as it would be my creativity wasted. However, if the characters are Mii-based or have Miitopia customization possibilities, I would be happy.
The thing I adored about miis is that they all looked so unique! No two miis look alike. When the new characters for Nintendo switch sports were shown, what made me dislike them the most is that they seem like they suffer from same face syndrome and even when customized, eye shape, head shape, mouth shape, etc. Look all the same to me

The way they let us create real people but also gave the opportunity to do the weirdest shit. This is perfect character-design design.
If they are counted as some, I'd say, the Miis are in the Top 10 video game characters of all time.

Even still today, it has great character customization, and in Miitopia, it’s the best!
The Miis still have better customization today as well.
I mean we still had better customization in the likes of elder scrolls. It was the simplicity of the customization that made it so enticing.
It is honestly pretty sad to see the Miis fading into the background, they have a lot of history attached to them and are especially important to the community. Although I am excited to see what the new Nintendo Switch Sports game has to offer with the new avatars I think is pretty safe to say a lot more people will be using Miis rather than the new models. Though I think it is a bit unfair people won't even give them a chance nostalgia can be a powerful marketing component.
I hate these stupid sportsmates brats but I won't stop anyone especially the mii haters from using them.

After playing a lot of switch sports, besides myself and a couple others, I don't see any other Mii's
@@GumCow obviously with all the custom headwears and bodies like squirrels and robots that's what's getting people to use those lame sportsmates.
@@GumCow For me it’s 50/50, and dependent on the sport. Chambara has a lot, Bowling has a few, Soccer is 50/50
I'm glad they are a thing, I have a big passion when it comes to avatar making and character customisations and given the opportunity to have them playable in multiple games, especially the Mario games, and make you feel like you're a part of that universe. Having Nintendo doing that and make something that easily represents us as the players is really welcoming.
It definitely makes it feel more immersive and I’m sure it fills out fantasies for some ppl lol

I feel like the biggest factor is that you can make 1 Mii and play it in dozens of games across years of gameplay, even across multiple consoles (mainly Wii, Wii U, or 3DS games). Basically no other character accomplishes this
If people could make 1 character and play it on dozens of PS5 games or dozens of Xbox games, I’m sure they’d grow very attached to that character
Countless games let you make your own character, but those characters are usually limited to 1 game, so you aren’t going to grow attached to that character outside of your attachment to the particular game

Also, they look charming! They are cute and don’t just look like people or anime, they have their own unique style!
I haven’t used my Xbox One for a while but they actually did have avatars that could be used in several games- not sure if the newer Xbox has it though.
Miitopia was SUCH a good game. I really hope we'll get a Miitopia 2 at some point.
In retrospect the switch remake is still technically just the first game, just optimized

I have been using the same Mii across all Nintendo products since I was a kid in 2007. I've transferred him across every console, and use him in every game. It's almost the default Mii from the Wii with some simple changes, but I can't bring myself to edit it anymore after using it for 14 years across 4 consoles and a smart phone app. Ilovetrain, the Mii I've used countless times over the past 14 years, even as I have many more random Miis I still use him in games with Miis to this day. I can't believe it's been well over half my life at this point I've had that Mii and my Wii. I wonder how many other people have him on their console because of streetpass, I've streetpassed people in multiple countries with him over the past 10 years. Crazy to think about.
I really love Miis, especially Miitopia. I don't care what others say, Miitopia deserves a sequel or expansion of some sort.
I've always felt like due to the Wii U's failure and how much Mii's were made the spotlight for that system, Nintendo decided the best way to avoid a repeat was to just... shun Mii's out as much as they can - but that was the wrong way to go about it, in my opinion. There was and still is so much potential for new Mii games; in a better timeline, there would've been a "Mii series" such as Mii Sports Resort and Mii Party for Switch. I wish the executives over at Nintendo weren't so hard on Mii characters in general. It's not the Mii's fault that the Wii U is a failure - realistically, that's on Nintendo for the name and bad marketing. It seems like Mii's are the perfect blame // punching bag for 'em. If it was a success, I can only imagine how much attention Nintendo would've rightfully gave to Mii's.
Thank you! Someone else who knows that Miis weren’t a part of the Wii U’s failure! Miis are definitely not just a Wii thing. They deserve just as much love as other Nintendo icons at this point.
@@lilmrb1276 The Mii’s definitely do deserve a bigger presence on the Switch but I’m still wondering if the reason why Nintendo doesn’t want the Mii’s to be a huge part of the Switch is because most people hate the Mii’s, or because Nintendo wants the Mii’s to stay in the past because the Switch isn’t the Wii, Wii U, or 3DS
@@SHANELOFRANCO I highly doubt either of those are the case. I’ve see way more people who LOVE the Miis, and the Wii was a very successful console. The reason the Wii U failed was because of poor marketing and the naming. Miis are a huge part of Nintendo history along wjth huge franchises like Mario and Zelda. Why would Nintendo want to erase something that was a part of their history? With the attention Miis have still otten recently, I’m sure Nintendo still cares about Miis. They’re just taking a backseat, but fans are overexaggerating it to heck and back.
To me it seems they are actually fixing a problem with Miis, and so they could only more easily bring them back as a notable presence. Miis always were a huge undertaking with lot of feature creep, and for the most part didn't deliver good return of investment AT ALL, culminating with Wii U. The fact is that Nintendo tried to sell Wii U on the Mii FEATURE, and people didn't buy, jsut made a bunch of weird excuses that "it wasn't clear it was a new console". Bish, if you're out to buy an accessory and get a whole new console, that's a PLUS. If the price then seems high, it's as easy as just asking what you GET for the price.
Even going by the name "sports mates", it seems that now they are implementing Miis again, but individual games will have their more involved mascot characters. This can let Miis mix, but stay light weight and move between different games while leaving the complicated features behind. MAYBE they're still not doing anything with Miis, since they havent' announced anything, but the opportunity is there.
That way you don't have to back-adjust Miis all over the place so that the same Mii is equally compatible in every game, even with features that really have nothing to do with that game. And mostly there was no benefit to how it was, like every customization in smash Mii is something that had to be accounted for not to break EVERY new DLC level, with no guarantee many people are even using Miis at all. Now imagine if the customizations could even come from OUTSIDE of Smash, it would be a total nightmare. But in reverse, NOW with proper planning they could gate away selected features so a core set of features IS cross-compatible.
Dude thank you for this comment. I have been trying to figure out what is Nintendo’s deal about the miis for the longest time. Wracking my head about why they won’t make new hair styles and accessories and stuff for the miis… your comment made it make sense and I’m sad lmao

I’m extremely happy that Miis exist. I loved Miis ever since their introduction in 2006. They’re one of my favorite Nintendo characters of all time, right up there with Mario and Kirby. It’s such an interesting and iconic Nintendo avatar creator. I wish Nintendo would better understand why we love Mii characters so much and give us more new Mii games (Not just sequels to already existing Mii games) that represent the player they’re based on, but with a classic Mii cartoony charm. I would honestly love to see a sandbox style adventure game that’s similar to either Super Mario Odyssey or Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild for Miis, where you can explore sandbox style worlds as your own Mii, with body designs similar to Smash Ultimate but with the outfit configurator from Miitomo.
As for Switch Sports, I’m not setting any high expectations for it, especially since the Sportsmates sidelined Miis as the main mascots (Miis are still playable, thank god..) and doesn’t take place on Wuhu Island.
The wii sports series was where the miis started and the upcoming switch sports game feels like a betrayal to them. If Nintendo had just focused only on the miis there wouldn't be any problems.

Loved making Miis, I remember before I had a Wii I found a flash game version of Mii maker and I spent a good few hours messing around in it, plotting out what kinda Mii's I was going to make on the Wii. Great vid dude, brought back a lot of memories
Tomodachi life is such a great use of the miis, it basically understood that feeling when your were playing a wii game like wii sports or wii party and seeing your miis interacting in the background. Seeing your friends, tv characters and celebrities all together doing random things was really funny, and that was the charm Tomodachi life had for me, you could put all the miis and they would actually build a life together.

1:29 that main menu and seeing twilight princess as the preview got me super nostalgic. I got the wii at the midnight launch and man did I play 2 hours of that before passing out. (I was 12 at the time)
When I got my first Wii for Christmas all those years ago, I made 100 Mii's in four days. I miss the Check Mii Out channel so much. It was pretty interesting to see various creations from all over, yes we still have the good ol internet that can pretty much do the same. But I enjoyed that channel very much. Just naming a few of the most popular I saw there were the following. Brock from Pokemon, Peter Griffin from Family Guy, SpongeBob from SpongeBob SquarePants, Harry from Harry Potter and Bart from the Simpsons. Someone out in Canada even made the most accurate looking Wario face I've ever seen.
When I bought a wii as a kid I loved making these things. I don't really care for the miis anymore but I will continue to remember those moments

I did start being a Nintendo Fan when I first got my Wii, and I loved the Mii's, but now they don't even have their own channel on the Switch, how sad when it's a favorite of a lot of people

back when I had a WiiU I absolutely loved to design Miis, the gameplay was just very original and the fact that you could play with a character that looks like you or has a unique design hit hard back then

I wasn’t very good at making Miis but I remember there was a channel on the Wii (I forget the name) that lets you download them and that’s what I did. I downloaded so many of them to liven up all the games I have that featured Miis. It was a great time.

I bet if Nintendo ever does any sequels to the wii series fans are going to question them about putting in new generic avatars.

Street Pass is still one of my favorite features of the 3DS. I love to just put my 3DS in my bag whenever I go out in case I run into someone else with a 3DS. And when we do come across each other their Mii will help us out in the mini-games. Honestly wish the Switch had a similar feature as it has a way bigger user base and is much more accessible with it being able to go from handheld to docked

I have both a wii and a 3ds, they are so fun!
I remember when I was like- 5/6 my mom bought me and my sister a 3ds each for our birthdays- we would go all around the house jumping off of things, running around and shaking it just for the steps. We did it so we could play Find Mii lol. I still miss my ds and I had so many memories on there- If I could get those years back I most definitely would.

I live in Canada too, but his voice is a little different than what I usually hear... Must be from Eastern Canada, I guess.
Anyway these videos have inspired me to go play Wii Sports Resort again (for what it is, I've put way too much time into it, especially Island Flyover), so... I'm gonna go do that.
I do sometimes wish that the Mii Maker was updated with more options, particularly for hair colour and eye colour. I mean, why isn't there purely white hair? Why just grey?
I think that's part of why I liked Miitopia so much. So many more options for hair and eye colours. And you know, dressing them was fun, but Tomodachi Life had more options for that.
